I have the purist version with 2 times zones in a similar layout but is 42 mm in a limited edition of a 1000. Mine is number 005/1000. Really accurate. Had it 4 years and still only gains 2 seconds a day which is the same rate as 4 years ago
Mr Peter thank you for the mode idea, I just purchased a used 2017 Glycine Airman GMT 42mm Automatic GL0066 and I must say I really love the watch, funny thing too is my son saw it, tried it on and I lost it too him lololol, Anyway I felt the dial and the 4 hands seemed a little busy and all the LUM was the same color so at night it almost seemed you couldn't make heads or tails of the hands when they came too close to each other. So i went to my watch guy and had him LUM the GMT hand a very light green almost like a Rolex color LUM, he filled in the original Skeleton hand keeping the silver borders and filled in the two long holes underneath with the LUM tip. Changed the whole arm to the new color and Omg did it come out gorgeous . Made the watch, it gave it the little touch of love it needed. again thanks for your videos and your opinions , all the best to you and yours .
I’ve been considering buying this watch and been researching it and ultimately found your close look at it. Great review and I completely love that you painted the GMT hand, make’s complete sense. Wish this had a box crystal and this would be absolutely perfect.
You're welcome! Drop me an email from the ABOUT section on my homepage and I will organise to get the travel case sent out asap. Congratulations once again. cheers
Strangely it adds to the design! And more than for legibility. That red pop on the date wheel is genius!, and the red hand just complements it. I've been looking at these pieces a lot recently, and I didn't even pick up that it was a mod until Peter explained it. Looks great I reckon.
I didn’t realize the GMT hand wasn’t stock until you mentioned it. It suites it so well that I thought it was an option from Glycine. Of course now I need to buy one and modify it as well😢 Probably a 36mm though with sapphire❤
Hi Peter. I have the same problem with my Airman 18 (39mm). My dial is blue with white hands and a white GMT with a red tip. My eye is always forced to the GMT hand when reading the minutes. I guess it just takes a bit of getting used to. I was considering a purist before buying this one but was a bit put off because of the difference in reading the time. After seeing some of the purists models, I noticed that you can use the hour hand counter balance to tell the hour when it is past 12 noon. If the hour hand is pointing to 16:00, the counterbalance points to 4:00. Makes it a bit easier for those that do not live by military time. I'm considering buying a purist and see which gets more wrist time. Thanks for your videos.
I agree that is a good feature in the purist with the counterbalance. Unfortunately doesn't work on the GMT version because of the 12 hour dial for the main hands. I wanted a distinction between the hands that's why i modded this. I kept on reading the get hand instead of the minute hand for the 12 hour time, so I did the mod. Thanks for the feedback, cheers
I've never thought about it, checked the pattern now: I first look at the minute hand, then the hour hand. If for some reason I need it, i look at the second hand last. Beautiful watch!
Fantastic presentation. Love your red painted hand upgrade! More functional and improves the aesthetics of an already great looking piece. You nailed it. Years ago I had a Double Twelve for a second or two. I did not even take the stickers off. Besides not loving the lines, proportions, or design in person, I really did not like the 22mm lugs or the almost 50mm L2L. I think this and the 36mm Purist a much better looking design that I may just try the 36mm version w/ 20mm lugs which would fit my 6.5" wrist better.
Nice. Good call painting the gmt hand red. 👍 I got the glycine airman base 22 myself. Love it. I'm glad they had the gmt hand red in that model. Otherwise I would have been asking the same question 🙂
Smart move painting the GMT red! Like you said... it’s your watch, and you are keeping it. If you ever feel like selling you can always buy an original GMT hand and sell the watch as is, with the original GMT hand in the box. Love this watch... had the 36 and have it away to my nephew many moons ago... this 40mm size is actually very pleasant especially to my wrist size. Keep up the great work!
Should paint every hand in that watch. Someone like me with old eyes can't tell what time it is with this light on light stuff. I have a GMT 22 with black hands on lume dial - THAT I can see and read. Oh, and they colored the GMT hand in red from factory.
@@PeterKotsa if you did change your mind I'm assuming you could always get a replacement hand anyway? If so then it's not really a big deal. Anyway I'm a pretty new subscriber but have to say I'm really enjoying your content.

G'day Alexander, I dont mind the crystal that much bro, I like how it treats the dial and softens the look. I have heaps of watches the majority have Sapphire. As for the minute hand, I did consider it when we did the GMT. I spoke to my watchmaker and I asked him to paint the hour and minute hand 'matt black'. He talked me out of it :( Now looking at the watch I only really wanted to have a quick check function by reading the GMT instantly and now I can..so I will see how it goes in a month or two living with it. thanks again for your input bro. cheers

I was thinking that the GMT hand needed to be painted Red whilst watching the last video of of an airman review 🤣. They should do this from the factory; every other brand does a red GMT hand.
i used to have a glycine gmt, 15 years ago, and it had a red gmt hand from the start! recently glycine had been bought over by invicta i think, and maybe some designs or quality has been compromised?
Hi Lucas, I cannot speak highly enough about the current model i have, regulated beautifully and finish is superb. This is however my first ever Glycine
Brilliant video Peter, again. I had my eye on an airman for a while myself and finally pulled the pin a week ago after seeing a price I couldn’t refuse from Ashford. My GL0246 “The Chief” arrived yesterday and I love it. This variant has a black face with grey PVD finish which is beautiful however, I completely agree with you on the lack of contrast for the GMT hand. I will look in to doing the same thing to mine. I think a red GMT hand would complement the red date and also address the issue on this black face version. I’d love to know who your watch maker is? I live in Melbourne too. Keep those great videos coming.
Hi Gino, yes i don't know why Glycine just didn't make these models with a red GMT hand straight out of the factory, that would have solved our issues..lol My watchmaker is Archies Watch Repairs in Dandenong, look them up and tell him you saw my video on youtube and he will look after you for sure. Cheers mate and stay safe.. cheers
It's exactly what i would have done, especially since i love red details on almost any watch. My modded Seiko's are my favourites, or more accurately: the ones I wear the most. Especially a change of hands can make the difference between a meh-ok-watch and a stunner. Disclaimer: opinions on this may vary, but... the best mod ever (for me): I put (nice, expensive) MM-style hands on my STO turtle. Those stock hands are ugly, and that reverse lollipop second-hand is annoying at best. Then I put just that second-hand on my SNZG, and it's a perfect match... Tinkering makes perfect.
I am on the side line on pulling the trigger on this watch. decisions, decisions. I love the design elements of the Airman especially the older type hour hand. The new syringe hand style is not doing it for me. Anyways, I think your GMT hand is slightly out of alignment with the hour hand. Was it like that before the mod?
@@PeterKotsa Its unfortunate SW300 is not more robust. I have an airman 17 that needed the GMT hand to be realigned by a watch maker right after purchase. Its been 2 months and so far so good.
It can be a frustrating experience (especially if you’re a little ocd) I recently purchased the Tudor GMT and it’s a completely different class of watch on every level GMT hand is absolutely spot on and the tolerances are superior on every level Still it’s a completely different price point
looks nice :) you are really right, mine is difficult to tell time for me too, I don't think you ruined it, I will not paint mine though, love it like it is
I was happy with it but I really wanted to see the time instantly at first glance and the red GMT has made that a reality for me. Enjoy yours btw, cheers :)
You can change the crystal, however I think it would change the character too much. The distortion and softness of the current crystal suits the watch too much for a changeover in my opinion Cheers
@@PeterKotsa lol. Kk. I understand. Soon, well i think i am going to buy the base 22 model. The one with the white luminicent dial and the p.v.d case. Just love this gmt. Looks like history and represents history. Enjoy ur timepiece.

I like the red too! Bugger all the naysayers Pete!🤬👍🏻 So did your mate hire a spray booth?😂 Ps. I was literally about to pull the trigger on a Combat Sub when your vid showed up! Now I’ve gotta do a re think🤔💭
haha...I don't mind the combat sub, 200m water resistance, classic diver look etc. This Glycine Airman No.1 is a completely different beast altogether.More refined, and delicate. A pilot's tool watch, with simplicity and style. Good luck with your choice Andrew, cheers mate..:)
oh man you serious?...that's a bummer. I have never got a Seiko with that much discrepancy from new...are they dropping the ball on quality control?? Sorry to hear :(
@@PeterKotsa Yeah i got really unlucky i guess, but yeah i dont think they QCed my watch properly. I really wanna go for a swiss made piece, knowing you wont see this flaw and being close to cosc specs.
I love this watch too but I cannot read the time with this watch. With all the hands and printing in the dial, it is very difficult to tell the time at a quick glance. It’s surprising because these are pilot watches and they should be much easier to read. But a beautiful watch and very quality.
So let's wrap things up the 1st modern relases with plexiglass and 30m w.r of the Glycine airman came as follow : Gl0158/ 36mm black dial gmt n.1 GL0159/36mm Black dial purest GL0160/36mm cream dial gmt n.1 GL0161/36mm cream dial purest GL0162/40mm Black dial gmt n.1 GL0163/40mm Black dial purest GL0164/40mm cream dial gmt n.1 GL0165/40mm creamdial purest And the second release with sapphire crystal came as follow : Gl0370/ 36mm black dial gmt n.1 GL0371/36mm Black dial purest GL0372/36mm cream dial gmt n.1 GL0373/36mm cream dial purest NOW THE BIG QUESTION is what are the Glycine airman 40 mm with sapphire crystal model numbers ?
i will admit i am consistently confused by the many iterations of the airman. so with that said the Purist would not have the additional hour hand that is now red on your watch, right? therefore the Purist would be easier to read because you would be looking at the "regular" hour hand? oh and very much enjoy your videos. great stuff.
Yes the purist works off a 24 hour dial wit an hour and minute hand. The hour hand goes around the dial once every 24 hours. On mine the hour hand goes around twice in 24 hours but the GMT hand goes around once every 24. Hope that makes sense.
Ive bought this watch after watching your previous video and tgv's. Indeed it is a beautiful watch. By the way, did you get a wooden box or an ordinary glycine box?
When using the standard hour and minute hands you read the time, you don’t go off the 24 hour scale that’s printed on the dial. Instead you use the lumed markers to read a standard 12 hour scale. The 24 hour markers on the dial are only used when reading with the GMT hand. I hope that makes sense 🤔 cheers
If your a famous photographer and modify a lens the value goes up. Nikon customized camera bodies for photographers . (Up in resale value) Do something important with the watch…. Value will go up.
Invicta only owns Glycine, they have not got involved in and of the manufacturing of Glycine, that department is still run as it always was. I think Invicta did the community and Glycine a huge favour by purchasing them. Thanks for the feedback, cheers
I’m puzzled. Love the watch and red hand mod. But I have been researching the Glycine and the Airman Chief looks very similar to yours but has a blue GMT hand. I wondered why you didn’t go for that model? Loved your enthusiastic review.
I don't understand the question? I knew it had legibility limitations, however I still wanted the watch nonetheless. In the end I found a work around by painting the gmt hand red and now the watch is ( as it should have been released from Glycine form its inception), my 2 cents worth :) cheers
Yep. Before you said “It’s my watch” - I was thinking exactly that. My DC4 is even worse. The hands are all similar. The painting of the gmt is genius. It’s not a new Seamaster or an old Daytona- mod it as you will.

Hi Gino, yes i don't know why Glycine just didn't make these models with a red GMT hand straight out of the factory, that would have solved our issues..lol
My watchmaker is Archies Watch Repairs in Dandenong, look them up and tell him you saw my video on youtube and he will look after you for sure.
Cheers mate and stay safe..
cheers
Loving that red gmt hand. How much did it cost to paint it ?
I have a good watchmaker he charged me a small basic fee to open the watch $50 (mates rates as they say)
Great video, lovely watch, it's better with red GMT hand
Totally agree, thanks for the feedback
Nicely said Bob. Enjoy the stuff we have as it only lasts a short while my friend!
Yeah apparently it’s a common discrepancy in this movement
@@PeterKotsa Its unfortunate SW300 is not more robust. I have an airman 17 that needed the GMT hand to be realigned by a watch maker right after purchase. Its been 2 months and so far so good.
It can be a frustrating experience (especially if you’re a little ocd)
I recently purchased the Tudor GMT and it’s a completely different class of watch on every level
GMT hand is absolutely spot on and the tolerances are superior on every level
Still it’s a completely different price point
looks nice :) you are really right, mine is difficult to tell time for me too, I don't think you ruined it, I will not paint mine though, love it like it is
I was happy with it but I really wanted to see the time instantly at first glance and the red GMT has made that a reality for me. Enjoy yours btw, cheers :)
I love what u did to the gmt hand it looks so amazing in red. But can u also change the crystal to a sapphire?
You can change the crystal, however I think it would change the character too much. The distortion and softness of the current crystal suits the watch too much for a changeover in my opinion
Cheers
@@PeterKotsa lol. Kk. I understand. Soon, well i think i am going to buy the base 22 model. The one with the white luminicent dial and the p.v.d case. Just love this gmt. Looks like history and represents history. Enjoy ur timepiece.
@@rameshdathrampersad9216 I am sure you'll love the base 22, to unit indeed !!
cheers
To be frank looks good, so jealous.
The red hand is definitely an improvement, the silver hand has kept me away from these because I thought I couldn't read it easily.
You were right, the legibility was bad, now excellent!!!. cheers
Congratz Roberto Brown!
Next time maybe :), thanks for participating once more, cheers
Gorgeous watch . So much character and great for small wrists . My heart sank at the asking price of $943+ $89 shipping to United States of America.
Not cheap, that's for sure.
@@PeterKotsa What is your opinion on vostok neptune gmt white dial ?
@@111danish111 I have not had any experience with that particular model. Going on Vostok's name and history it should be a very robust unit if it follows their other models. Apart forma hat i really cannot comment on it personally
cheers
@@PeterKotsa Thanks I have been binge watching your channel and I'm glad I discovered it.
Peter Kotsa And that’s the appeal of yours! I’d eyed your version off many times & almost forgot about it! Thanks!🤬🤣😂👍🏻💸💸💸💸
Be your own man. It is your watch. Let's be realistic, very few brands increase considerably in value.
Correct, well said..
I finally got my green crown presage brand new, but its running +31s/day, out of spec. Very sad, i gotta go to seiko and get it fixed.
oh man you serious?...that's a bummer.
It’s a better watch with that red GMT hand. 👍🏼
Everyone seems to be saying that to me, thanks for the feedback again cheers
I love this watch too but I cannot read the time with this watch. With all the hands and printing in the dial, it is very difficult to tell the time at a quick glance. It’s surprising because these are pilot watches and they should be much easier to read. But a beautiful watch and very quality.
Everything about this watch is lovely ..except the legibility..a quick fix like this has made this watch amazing now> Thanks for sharing
So let's wrap things up the 1st modern relases with plexiglass and 30m w.r of the Glycine airman came as follow :
Gl0158/ 36mm black dial gmt n.1
GL0159/36mm Black dial purest
GL0160/36mm cream dial gmt n.1
GL0161/36mm cream dial purest
GL0162/40mm Black dial gmt n.1
GL0163/40mm Black dial purest
GL0164/40mm cream dial gmt n.1
GL0165/40mm creamdial purest
And the second release with sapphire crystal came as follow :
Gl0370/ 36mm black dial gmt n.1
GL0371/36mm Black dial purest
GL0372/36mm cream dial gmt n.1
GL0373/36mm cream dial purest
NOW THE BIG QUESTION is what are the Glycine airman 40 mm with sapphire crystal model numbers ?
i will admit i am consistently confused by the many iterations of the airman. so with that said the Purist would not have the additional hour hand that is now red on your watch, right? therefore the Purist would be easier to read because you would be looking at the "regular" hour hand? oh and very much enjoy your videos. great stuff.
What wooden box?...no just the standard Glycine for me:(
@@PeterKotsa well thats the same for me, so sad.. Before purchasing i noticed that some ppl got the wooden box
You mispronounced my name... it’s Chris (as in krys)... Beckman (as in Bek- Man)... LoL 😆
Great give away.... enjoy Mr. Brown!
very funny indeed ..haha
It went from a 6.5 to an 8!
Without glasses on I can't read the other silver hands on my 24 hour version. It is my least legible watch helas. Love the looks though.
I think in different lighting situations it can get a little tricky. Looks wise though it is SUPERB, I agree...:)
@@PeterKotsa I have the number 66 purist in 36 mm. I really like the size and the 24 hour dial. But probably I should have bought the black version.
The older we get the harder it is to read the dial, especially a 36mm with similar coloured hands
But it reads ten to four, not ten to two?
When using the standard hour and minute hands you read the time, you don’t go off the 24 hour scale that’s printed on the dial. Instead you use the lumed markers to read a standard 12 hour scale. The 24 hour markers on the dial are only used when reading with the GMT hand. I hope that makes sense 🤔 cheers
If your a famous photographer and modify a lens the value goes up. Nikon customized camera bodies for photographers . (Up in resale value)
Do something important with the watch…. Value will go up.
Red is great
Thanks Eric, cheers
I like it, it looks better with the red gmt hand.
Thank you, I agree, it makes the watch more balanced and easier to read now, (for me), cheers
Nice watch but Glycine is now owned by Invicta could one trust it's reliability.
Invicta only owns Glycine, they have not got involved in and of the manufacturing of Glycine, that department is still run as it always was. I think Invicta did the community and Glycine a huge favour by purchasing them. Thanks for the feedback, cheers
@@PeterKotsa Thanks Peter I did not Know that.
I’m puzzled. Love the watch and red hand mod. But I have been researching the Glycine and the Airman Chief looks very similar to yours but has a blue GMT hand. I wondered why you didn’t go for that model? Loved your enthusiastic review.
If you have to paint the GMT hand, then Glycine is not doing a good job designing its watches.
Note for folks watching this in 2023 or later... the crystals on these are now sapphire.
It looks oem
Should have come out fo the factory this way
Sorry. You indicate you have experience and yet didn't realise its legibility.
I don't understand the question? I knew it had legibility limitations, however I still wanted the watch nonetheless. In the end I found a work around by painting the gmt hand red and now the watch is ( as it should have been released from Glycine form its inception), my 2 cents worth :) cheers
ayo
ayo :)
It makes no sense that the hour hand is on 12 hour time. Why wouldnt it be on 24 hour time? Thats the purpose of the watch.
