    This is the two sides girdle slash grill.. Amazing.. How do you keep both sides in good shape ..if one is directly on the flame?

    Great videos. Feeling more confident with my cast iron cooking. I will be interested in a video showing how to properly cook thin crepes. Is it doable in a cast iron?

    Do you usually add butter or any type of oil before cooking (even on a fully seasoned pan). I'm having trouble getting my cast iron to build up a solid seasoning. It's a brand new lodge 12 inch and they did say it was pre seasoned, but I always apply a small amount of oil after I clean the pan

      +Paul Eberly I unusually add butter or oil yes. A pre-seasoned pan just means that it was coasted and baked at the factory so it wasn't just a raw metal pan on the shelf that could rust. You still have to season it and build up your seasoning layer. I usually do this in the oven when I first get a CI pan. I have some videos and there are other videos on YT that explain this process. Thanks!

    When I use a cast iron griddle, the pancakes all have a sunburst-like effect, with the half on/near the burner much darker than the other side, but yours look pretty consistent. The ones in the middle, not on any burner, even seem to be cooking at the same rate as the ones directly over a burner. How do you get the griddle so evenly heated so the pancakes cook uniformly?

      I get the griddle up to temp with med/high heat before I make my first pour, then turn it down to about medium heat and that seems work well. I also use a coat of cooking spray between each pour.

    Question. Would you season this griddle in the oven like you would a normal pan/skillet? 3-4 times out of the box? I am thinking of getting one of these. Thanks!

      +Greg “ESV” H I did season it a few times in the oven. Have been using it for 2 years now and its nice and smooth, super happy with it. I had a cheep electric griddle that was a few dollars less than this cast iron one. When the electric one wore out I got this and will use it the rest of my life =)

      Great we are considering getting one soon and this is good to know. I guess just coat both sides with the oil and stick it in the oven?

      Where did you find your griddle? Also I have an electric coil stove top, will that be ok or work with this griddle?

    • @CookingWithCastIron
      @CookingWithCastIron  8 років тому +1

      +Greg “ESV” H This one was a gift to me, but you can get them here: amzn.to/1L1aszJ Your local chain store should have them also. It should work on all cooking/heating surfaces. However, I know from my past electric stove tops that the coils don't always sit level. If you feel that your coils are fairly level than this should work; also the weight of this griddle should help to keep it in place. Even on my gas range I have to position it just right so that it sits stable. Hope that helps!

    Will this work for me if I have a glass top electric range?

    • @CookingWithCastIron
      @CookingWithCastIron  8 років тому

      +Robert Strain Lodge says that it will work on any cooking/heating surface. The way cast iron conducts heat, I would think that it should. The only thing you have to be cautious of is dropping it or setting it down hard.
