in this video i review and test the lodge cast iron reversible grill/griddle by cooking some eggs and steak you can find this product here. amzn.to/2rKofam
Great video and review - no fluff, just facts. I bought one of these recently and seasoned it with olive oil. I’ve done eggs and pancakes on the griddle side and pork chops on the grill side - everything came out perfect. The grill side is a bit tough to clean, but a good brush, hot water, and kosher salt took care of it quickly. Cast iron is already a great surface to use, but the flexibility of this thing really stands out. Very impressive.
I just got this grill/griddle a few months ago & look forward to using it this summer! This video was so helpful because I've never used one before. Thanks for sharing!
Brother I liked and subscribed the moment the video finished great review ! Right to the point no commercials no music playing in the background no long intro , did both sides of the product! Wish you the best of luck thank you sir 🤘🏻
I wish they had the grill ribs positioned parallel to the short side, that diagonal design has been a bit more challenging to clean. Otherwise a great chunk of cast iron cookware.
My property manager made me get rid of my outdoor grill. I got one of these so I could still have some burgers and stakes with awesome grill lines, and that great cast iron flavor. I'm planning some cookouts with my neighbors.
thanks for making this video uncle bill. i bought the griddle and some spatulas through your amazon affiliate link. i am in canada so i had to switch the region so hopefully it still gave you a few bucks.
I just made some shrimp, onion and peppers on the grill side and they turned out great 👍🏼 I did my shrimp with just garlic, butter, salt and pepper deveined but with shell legs and tail-on. I like them better this way cause they don’t cook quite as fast. Great video! Thanks for sharing
This griddle is awesome. I cook cheesesteaks on this and I smash burgers. 100 times better than cooking on a regular pan just for the simple fact it's flat. Or you can just buy a Blackstone, too pricey though.
Lodge makes these plastic scrapers. One side is flat and the other has grooves to help with grill side. I usually just scrape any residue off with one of those and maybe use some warm water but never soap. After that i just rub a light coat of oil on it.
I have a question( and some doubts) about using both surfaces of double-surface griddles. As we know two main advantages of cast iron cookware is even heat distribution and a natural non-stick cooking surface developed by the seasoning process, which is basically cured / hardens or polymerized layers of oils and fats. That cured surface can be easily destroyed, burned, charred by overheating. Isn’t what precisely happens when you flip one surface down exposed to open gas or charcoal fire intense heat? Doesn’t that mean that the bottom surface will always be burned and one have to re-season it all the time?
I think you bring up a valid point. I have noticed that when used over an open flame such as a campsite grill or fire pit that the effects are negligible but when used over something such as a propane grill with high btu that the seasoning can be become compromised. It is always a good idea to keep whatever oil that you use to season your cast iron with handy whenever using a propane grill or when your griddle is subject to high temperatures. Unfortunately there will always be a compromise when using a double sided grill/griddle over open flame.
@@sergegassity7395 I have a cast iron pan that has been in use since the 1850s. The bottom looks as shiny and seasoned as the cooking surface even though it is exposed to open flame on my stove. I clean and oil the entire pan every time I use it.
Sorry about the late response. They come pre seasoned so you are good to go. I would get the plastic lodge scraper for the grill side. It makes cleanup easy👍
Why are people afraid to put more grease, butter, and oil on their cooking surface? Grease and butter are not just to keep things from sticking but they add flavor. Be generous, it won't hurt you and everything will come out better. By the way peanut oil is just about the best oil you can use, healthy too.
It does okay just like using a cast iron skillet. The outer lip on the griddle is not that tall so you do need to be careful of how much oil or butter you use when cooking to prevent a spill and flameup.
I had bought this several months ago and have determined it to be just plain garbage. I have looked at Lodge's website. Looked at people's youtube videos, and still, something as simple as pancakes are ruined on this thing. I have seasoned the grill. Used the low to medium temperature, waiting until the grill is hot. Coated the grill with oil again prior to putting in the pancake batter, but still i have to scrap off the pancake, compared to my last griddle where the pancake came up easily.
In that case i would try and return it. Its rare but sometimes if cast iron isn't polished enough at the factory it will make food stick to it no matter how hard you try to avoid it.
You might need more heat and oil. A properly seasoned pan takes time to build up layers. Cowboy Kent Rollins has good videos on treating new cast iron. And I do believe he might even have had to sand new cast iron to get it smooth. It is some work...to get it established. The hard work will pay off. Don't give up yet.
A few times but just for keeping stuff warm or heating tortillas. I’m alway afraid I’m going to break the glass due to the weight. since there are no real handles it’s not easy to handle on a flat surface where you can not get under it to get a grip.
If you accidentally crust stuff really hard on it, get a wire brush, pour some boiling water on it while it is hot and scrub in those grooves. It'll come right out easy as pie.
Best way to clean cast iron imo is taking the hot pan and put it under hot running water. All the junk will fall right off. Stubborn ones can then be rubbed off with some coarse salt and a paper towel then reseason your pan.
I agree. Chicken thighs are best cooked over an open flame or in a deep pan. They taste great but there is a lot of fat in them maybe even more than bacon. I would probably cook them on indirect heat and seer them with the griddle or reverse the process. You can make a great sauce with the drippings though.
Generally with cast iron you just scrape or wipe off the residue with a lodge scraper or use warm water and a scouring pad. If you use water remember to oil it.
@@Ajindo76 it may be a long shot but maybe put some ice in a ziplock bag and lay it across the adhesive it may stiffen up enough to peel off or set it in you fridge for a while but remember to let it get back to room temp before using it once the glue is gone.
While I do like my steak pink in the center I can see where your coming from. It’s become all to come to see someone burn the outside of a steak, leave it raw in the center and consider it cooked perfectly.

Be careful, olive oil has a low smoke point. If you're seasoning with it, you might be ingesting carcinogens 😬
Eggs and toast. Well done.
I use only ever, butter, lard or tallow.
Never vegetable or seed oil.
Looks like a great meal.

I agree. I find myself using this at home on the stove for almost anything i would normally grill especially now that its cold outside.
I would sous vide the steaks, then put on the grill. :) Love eggs in a basket; cant wait for mine to come in the mail.
good job Patrick! gonna get me one of those Lodge griddles too!
Awesome video I just purchased the griddle and I feel good about my purchase
I’m doing it right now after this video! How do you like it after 6 months?
perfect size for camping stoves!!! Love it, have to get one now!! :)
I have the Pro Lodge cast iron griddle/grill and am waiting for my new dual butane stove to arrive. I will try it right away!
Its a good combination. Enjoy!
I was looking on how to properly clean this griddle pan but this was still a definite good watch

magnificent content Uncle Bills Camping. I killed that thumbs up on your video. Continue to keep up the excellent work.
Very informative info. Thanks.
The best part is that you can get it for less than $40 at target USA made. I have 2 of them just for putting on a Weber grill
They are incredibly useful. I use mine on the grill as well especially if I want a good sear or I want to cook some veggies.
Cook with a instant read thermometer. 130-135F for medium rare.
Oooo box cars. Makes me miss my great aunt

Perhaps using it on induction stove would be much safer as it heats the entire griddle mass rather than just the bottom surface

No grease channel. Forget about bacon
I have the ozark trail reversible griddle/grill. If both sides are seasoned, will the seasoning on the side not used get burned off?
It can especially if used over a campfire. If it’s used on low to medium heat on a camp stove it should be good.
Could i use that as a fireback in my fireplace??
Not sure but it is made of cast iron and i doubt fire and coals would hurt it.
@@unclebillscamping .. Thats what i was thinking.. Fire backs are either cast iron or stainless steel.. Im thinking it would work perfect.
how well does the flat side cook steaks?

Is it hard to clean?? I've got one of those, but never used it because it looks very difficult to get all the grease cleaned off it after use.
Not at all. They make a small plastic tool made just for those grooves. I think its 3 bucks for 2 of them.
@@unclebillscamping Good to know. I think i'll try it out today. Appreciate the info.
use salt and the after it wipes clean just rub some more oil on it... good to go for the next time

Might want to lock your camera focus next time
aramsey2000 sorry about that for the past couple of videos i have been experimenting with the auto focus. I appreciate the feedback.
The camera quality beyond that is fantastic though
What camera do you use? it looks really good except for the focus issue.
themightyapefish its an original eos-m with the 22mm prime lens. Just use manual focus as you can see in this video the auto focus is not thr best.
Thanks for the reply :)
How did you get the rubber cement glue off?
If you are talking about the adhesive holding the label on it just pulled off in one piece.
First, thank you for your reply. Mine did not come off with the label. I live in AZ so, heat from outside turned it to a goopy mess.

peanut oil, better rethink that, it would ruin a steak
