I work at Best Buy, and we have one of these on display. Whenever we’re slow, I pair my phone to it and play it at about 1/3rd volume. That’s loud enough to let me hear music anywhere in the home theater department, at half you can hear it at the front of the store. I’ve never been bold enough to crank it to full.
If I understand well, the idea for it to support your existing TV setup sounds pretty useful. Main usecase would probably be someone who has a soundbar for their TV, but no subwoofer. With this thing, you get an okay subwoofer, which you can wheel out and use as a sound system when you throw a party in the garden. Any speaker system of this class takes up a lot of room, but if it acts as your subwoofer while you're not throwing a party it becomes a bit more tolerable to have around
If you're stuck with a soundbar because you don't have the budget for decent stereo/surround speakers - spending $1000 on a boom-box probably wouldn't be a priority. It's a bit awkwardly sized to use as a sub for a TV. It also comes in at 26kgs - which is awkwardly sized to be portable. You can sort out a 12" sub/amp for your TV for just under a hundred bucks (you don't even need a fancy 2.1 system - just leech the stereo signal via split cables). And same for party speakers. You've seen those big bluetooth units that go for like $60 on Amazon? My friends bring those out to outdoor parties and they're enough to keep 50-60 people happy. There's usually an external battery or generator involved, but even those are pretty cheap.
Dan's sense of humor is amazing. The taped over Sony logo with "SONY" on it. The damming with faint praise. The largely dry delivery. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'd watch a tech podcast with this guy. Him and Anthony together would be on my must listen list.
Use case for this: it’s a busy Dominican restaurant or deli in Brooklyn, during the day they use it to call out orders and and make announcements, maybe some light karaoke for larger gatherings. After close they blast it while they clean up. I wanna start a series soon where I go through interesting use cases for bizarre audio solutions. Like, there’s so much eyebrow rasing gear out there but most of it seems to find it’s unique use case.

I have the SRS-XP700 slightly smaller and probably from the previous generation. I love it. it is super loud, has 25 hours of battery life. I personally have used it for 15 hours at medium volume before I needed to charge it. I would recommend this speaker instead of the new SRS-XV900. This is because you can buy the XP700 for around 400 dollars compared to the insane $900 for the XV 900 Even though it has less power and sound. It has amazing bass, great sound quality, awesome for outdoor use. I personally use this for pool parties (water resistant), sand volleyball (not sand resistant but is pretty good if you wipe it down afterwards), and ultimate. I love it probably the best Sony speaker I have owned. (I bought the previous 2 generations as well) The cons however of the xp700 is that the apps are not very good. this extends as well to all Sony speakers however. They need to update it and receive customer suggestions because if the supporting apps were improved these speakers would feel a lot better.
I also have the XP700 and I love it! @@helenHTID I tried a lot before settling on the Sony. Suits my needs and after reading and watching many reviews and comparisons I was willing to pay the extra for Sony.
Love how LMG has so many really knowledgeable hosts now. Each has their areas of expertise and you really feel it when they get to host something that's in their wheelhouse. Honestly couldn't care less about the speaker, but watching Dan put it through it's paces was still entertaining.
i bought one older version like 3 years ago still works great with the lights and everything battery life lasts like 8 hrs straight full volume with rave lights off
Sounds like a good use-case for that speaker is to turn the bass way up, and position it near wet concrete that needs to be agitated to settle smoothly and solidly. Fifteen or twenty seconds should shake any bubbles to the surface, and get the fill packing firmly.
I always use my XB43 in stamina mode when using them as normal speakers. The Bluetooth mode is FAR too bass heavy. Using a cable input gives a much nicer sound profile, but if they actually put a proper EQ in the app it would be significantly better. 2x XB43 in stamina mode standing on either side of the TV with a stereo splitter cable giving each one mono actually sounds brilliant!
I have two SRS-X48s setup in stereo mode, and it's amazing how powerful they are considering their size. They also sound crystal clear at high volumes. Honestly, I think they would be fine for almost any use case, and something like this is complete overkill.
Dan has become pretty funny over time. He was always amusing and made me laugh but he seems very comfortable and confident in front of the camera. His sarcasm during the WAN show and around Linus and co is even better.
I have 2x 15" Subwoofers in custom enclosures that I built. Running off a pair of 1000w RMS 4ohm amplifiers. Shakes the shit out of the house. My neighbours love it.
I would like see you guys take a look at the soundbox brand of speakers. I see them in parks offices and people just walking around carrying them like a backpack
These are great for party planners (aka the professional companies). Two of those and you never have to worry about having to wire the whole sound system in every location.
My biggest problem with these types of speakers is that most of them I've tried (don't know if that's the case for this one) is that they recommend that you don't keep it plugged in all the time but don't give you the option to completely turn off the battery so you can just use it at home
Exactly. What Sony (and every other company that makes a similar speaker) should do is give these devices the ability/option to easily switch between a battery-powered mode and an AC-powered mode. No one wants to run a speaker like this on battery in their home and then have to keep on recharging it all the time. They ONLY want to do that when the speaker will be used where there is no option to plug it in. Also, a device this size should have an easy to swap out, user-replaceable battery as well. If you aren't going to give it the option to run on AC power, then you are going to be drawing down the useful life of that battery in relatively short order. Once that rechargeable battery is worn out/used up, you're going to have to likely take it to a service center or battery specialty shop to get it professionally replaced. That's going to take a considerable amount of time and effort, especially on a unit of this size. This is something important that Sony really should have factored into their design decision/product planning on this item, right from the very start.
as great as crabrave is, perhaps you oughta play a variety of copyright free music when you do overviews of items like this, there's plenty of great music out there you could use.
This was definitely made for a dorm room. As in that rich kid that has everything, but now needs to move into a tiny apartment where they'd get people over for parties etc. but also want a decent setup for watching movies other times.
The main problem with these wireless setups is the delay you get if you use it for basic sound mixing. I mean, no troubles just letting it play a playlist untouched but as soon as you wanna do a transition from one song to another on a mixpult, the delay throws you off. So you need to go wired then and this kind of beats the purpose.
A proper surround speaker at the same price would sound better. Rave speakers are not designed for sound quality, just volume. If it happens to sound okay at high volume levels, great, but they are always underwhelming at low listening levels.
this is for people with more money than basic knowledge...for the same price you can get a very nice full home 5.1 or 7.1 audio system off craigs list or kijiji a real sub and game etc and do all media interaction on premium quality sound....the recommendations to listen to things on headphone will seem ridiculous. and no you dont need to upset your neighbors in your getto tower apartment
@@kazzxtrismus ah yes, a nice portable 7.1 system? You are talking about a completely different use case here. But for the price I would still stick with the Soundboks.
I've got the 700 and absolutely love it - it plays music loudly so you can use it in crowds and was 200€ than the equivalent JBL. The one gripe i have with it though is the portability - i've carried it around, but boy oh boy you get tired quick. With the 900 being even bigger you'd think they'd finally include a straphook or some wheels, but alas, nothing. This thing is not mobile and you'll only be able to carry it short distances, so not sure what the point of it is really.
I used the srs xp500 for my wedding. The speakers have way too much bass but if you hold the bass boost button (at least on the xp500) then it will switch over to a low bass mode which helps extend battery life and makes music sound much more balanced.
Comparing to the speakers we left in the 90’s which we used multiple to get surround sound, having one speaker that size for a party doesn’t sound bad inside or outside. As long as it performs
More Dan across all LMG channels! That said, i will still claim the Soundboks still is the GOAT. 100wh changeable batteries and rugged enough to go full blast while you chuck it in the river.
I'm pretty sure I passed a dude on Bourbon Street in New Orleans who could appreciate these speakers, his bicycle was one giant wall of noise with an insane nest of plugs and portable batteries. But "Massive Portable Party Dude" is a rather small niche in the speaker market... And they seem rather resourceful already, better to keep 'em busy god knows what speaker monstrosity they'll make if we keep making this easier lol (god I can't wait to hear it from miles away hahahaha)
"Loud" is a understatement. have an older smaller model 5.5 hours at full volume only hit ~50% battery but you can't be close at that volume its deafening in a small room. used it regularly in a warehouse during construction 300,000 sqf the bass was audible in the whole place. i expect this to perform better in the same situation.
7:46 "I was hoping they'd be brighter" But you're in a fully studio lit set 😅. I'm sure wherever and whenever this might be used with the lights, it'll be dimmer, darker, and more moody hahaha
These things are going to be popular at college parties and tailgates, because that's exactly the sort of features my fraternity brothers and I could have used back in the day. Not sure it has a place in my life, but some younger folks that need a battery powered portable stereo/pa system are going to have fun with those.
The bass being super high when over in the TV area wasn't because of the wall but because you were standing right in front of the port on that side. The bass will always be much, much louder near or directly in front of the port.
They really should've turned this into a DJ Roomba. It has the size and enough battery to pull it off. Just add a circular tray that wraps around it, and an ice bucket holder on top. The speaker will be the life of the party; dispensing sick beats and drinks to all. Ooh and put a monochrome screen with cute robot eye animations.
Is it true you're not meant to put big speakers like that near your tv? I had the setup shown at 5:25 a few years back and after a while my tv had black lines running through it, completely ruining the picture. Suspected it was the speaker but never found out for sure.
Long time fan! I work as a full time dj and worked retail for pro audio equipment. For the price , you can get much better stuff from other brands that have more skin in the game that’s still accessible and cheaper than the Sony. Bose, EV, JBL, and a personal fav QSC are the brands to check out. There’s battery and wall powered options that would blow this out the water that’s way more portable for the same price if not cheaper.

Cool. I use my XB41 as my TV sound bar
5:30 that face was just
My first thought starting the video "oh man I can't wait to hear crab rave through *this* " 🤣
I have two SRS-X48s setup in stereo mode, and it's amazing how powerful they are considering their size.
2 of them for tv, and then you can detach one and roll it around for a bluetooth party speaker. I love the idea.
I love how Dan is out of breath for the first half of the video
These are great for party planners (aka the professional companies). Two of those and you never have to worry about having to wire the whole sound system in every location.
My biggest problem with these types of speakers is that most of them I've tried (don't know if that's the case for this one) is that they recommend that you don't keep it plugged in all the time but don't give you the option to completely turn off the battery so you can just use it at home
Just buy one which doesn't have a battery.
This is something important that Sony really should have factored into their design decision/product planning on this item, right from the very start.
dan is growing on me. not that i ever disliked him but just didn’t have a opinion about him. keep him!!!
as great as crabrave is, perhaps you oughta play a variety of copyright free music when you do overviews of items like this, there's plenty of great music out there you could use.
Yeah, 5 seconds of the meme is enough, they could pull all sorts of cool audio in to test
5:29 wow 😮😮😮 that bass coming through earphones harder, must be stronger in person... they did a nice job here plus the looks 🙂
This was definitely made for a dorm room. As in that rich kid that has everything, but now needs to move into a tiny apartment where they'd get people over for parties etc. but also want a decent setup for watching movies other times.
Loved watching an old man who appears allergic to loud music forced to review a Megabass! speaker
Dan is f****** great. We need more Dan.
"Sleep paralysis demon music", best LTT quote to date!
Seems like a bunch of niche use cases, but at least it sounds nice. If only this could be used in a surround sound set-up.
But for the price I would still stick with the Soundboks.
your neighbor with a real avr and subwoofer setup will only say. ohh thats cute
I don’t have neighbors but I hate myself is that close enough?
such luxury to not have neighbors. flexing on us.
@@Timotarius_ I can’t help I’m a Yee Yee lol
I read the title and almost skipped the video. Then I saw Dan. Love that guy.
Ima show this to my Mexican dad .
Just bought 2 XV800 for parties and I love the clarity in sound.
More hifi please … Dan is doing a great job as a presenter 🎉
I hope you know That those kind of Bluetooth speaker aren't anywhere near hi-fi
@@NOBODY-hp3mu it was more for them to review hifi stuff not this crap …
This is no hifi! This is crapp.2.0 !
Sony of today has lost its durability. How sad.
What's sad is your cognitive ability.
We got 2 700s and I can say they're beasts. Definitely recommend the SRS speakers to anyone
Love how they chose one of the most softspoken LTT hosts to display a loud-ass speaker
Seriously thinking about picking up the smaller version of this for the back yard. Seems like a great option.
I used the srs xp500 for my wedding. The speakers have way too much bass but if you hold the bass boost button (at least on the xp500) then it will switch over to a low bass mode which helps extend battery life and makes music sound much more balanced.
I can hear that bass through my earbuds! Disclaimer: they are already on the bass profile
buying 4 of them tomorrow . Don't want to hear my neighbors dogs all day and night
I love your shirt! The tape over Sony with Sony written in it is just a delightful!
Also can you be the main narrator from now on? Please and thank you
I'm pretty sure I passed a dude on Bourbon Street in New Orleans who could appreciate these speakers, his bicycle was one giant wall of noise with an insane nest of plugs and portable batteries.
Well, now I know what my next investment is gonna be.
Edit 7 days later: Got that thing sitting in my room rn😂
Oo my god forget subwoofer
I just realised how much bass can my headphones put out
That spookd me out WOW 5:28
Dan is The Bob Ross of LTT.
I love that all the units are SI except the massive one, they know exactly who they are marketing for.
I love Dan's videos. Great presentation.
Dan was the only soul who could have hosted this and made it entertaining, have him do more he's based :D
Yo!! Dan could absolutely run his own youtube channel!! Best host at linus media!
These things are going to be popular at college parties and tailgates, because that's exactly the sort of features my fraternity brothers and I could have used back in the day. Not sure it has a place in my life, but some younger folks that need a battery powered portable stereo/pa system are going to have fun with those.
When we hate a certain neighbor but can afford one of these.
I don't care about the product, I am just here for Dan.
This speaker, through the video makes my own speaker setup's subwoofer engage more than I've ever heard it do before lmao
The bass being super high when over in the TV area wasn't because of the wall but because you were standing right in front of the port on that side. The bass will always be much, much louder near or directly in front of the port.
my use case would be party speaker and a sub for out door movies in support mode on the projector!
The bass was so strong that my head shook with my AirPods Pro 🤣
My neighbor's cheap speaker from 2007: "hold my no brand sound"
you talking obout jbl
Alright so that’s how crab rave is supposed to sound, give me two 😎
"If it's dieing in the middle of your 3 day bender" Like this presenter, he delivered that line like he casually has 3 day benders all the time
not mentioned in the video, LIVE SOUND actually using audio processing to widen the sound stage and almost give a surround sound experience
