- Sal Geraci of Woodbury, CT has owned his 1960 Cadillac Series 62 coupe since 1967 and spent nearly $90,000 on restoring it after it sat parked for 30 years. He shared the horrific tale with RIDE-CT.
Dude looks incredible for being in his 80's!!
I would have guessed he's 10 to 15 years younger.
He said he worked (as in past tense) until he was in his early 80's. So if the original restoration took 5 years and the additional repairs another 4 or 5, that would put him somewhere around 90!
That is a gorgeous Caddy, Sal should be proud!
Love 60 cadillacs! So beautiful
I have heard this same story multiple times over the years, such a shame. But it's a beautiful car and i'm happy to see it on the road
It is a beauty.
Yea it's happened to me. Not only with my classic cars, but with house repairs as well. Sadly, I've had lawyers tell me there is nothing I can do about it.
The problem is, as a retired bachelor with no kids or family, my funds are extremely limited. I don't mind paying for quality work. But I've sunk thousands into things that have had to be redone multiple times.
Beautiful car.
Sickens me to hear someone taking advantage of someone elderly like this. Knowing once their in on the project they're stuck until it's finished.
Goes to show it pays to do some homework and investigating before committing to a restoration business.
Ive restored 2 Caddies of this era. Sad to say, but these cars need to be restored properly by a Resto shop with a good reputation. $150K minimum. Chrome and trim are expensive to restore. You get what you pay for.
Most of the car you see at highend classic car auctions are the same way. They are only cosmetically restored. This is a very typical situation. That is because most collectors do not even CARE about the functionality of the car. They are merely used for show to stroke their egos. REAL men (and women) DRIVE their collectable cars!!!
A crook will never hesitate to shake your hand.
And how can you tell beforehand?
My grandfather bought new a black 1960 sedan, de ville. $6000.00
Bet it looked fabulous.
