Wanna know how to deal with every type of malfunction with just 1 hotkey? Watch this video and I'll show you how. In patch 12.12 BSG implemented new weapon malfunctions and overheating, which has changed how gunplay works massively, you cant just mag dump infinitely without issue anymore. In addition to the misfire or jam that you used to get, they've added 3 new malfunction types, failure to eject, failure to feed and jammed bolt, none of this is really important to know since you fix them all the same way, but the only thing you need to be aware of is the jammed bolt, which has two types of jam, easy and hard, the only difference being the amount of time it takes to fix the jam.
The other cool thing they've added is overheating! There are several stages to overheating, but to sum it up if you don't let your gun cool down between shots your accuracy will decrease, malfunction chance increases, durability loss increases, the weapons maximum durability decreases and the fire rate slows down until you eventually reach the maximum stage of overheating, where you receive a malfunction.
To clear all malfunctions there are 2 hotkey settings of importance, firstly chamber/fix malfunction, set that to whatever you want and make the Press Type is on Press... secondly inspect current weapon, make sure its the same key as check chamber, but make sure its set to Release. now whenever you have a malfunction all you need to do is press that one hotkey it'll inspect the issue, then press the same key again to fix it!

The only thing I don’t like about the new malfunctions is that you have to check the chamber before fixing the problem. Racking the bolt is usually taught as the first thing you do when a malfunction occurs. This is because 90% of malfunctions are fixed by doing this. You would only need to check the chamber if racking it doesn’t fix the problem.
well with most guns racking the bolt is needed during the process of checking the chamber. So you end up just doing both, which is how it should work here too
I thought about this too haha. We were taught SPORTS originally which was dumb. Most instructors will tell you just perform tap, rack, fire. Much simpler.

Its cool that they made larger mags malfunction more often since its the same in real life. Most large capacity mags tend to run into issues a lot more often than standard mags
In theory, yes, but it's also really exaggerated in tarkov... there are relatively reliable high cap mags out there these days, and most of them are in tarkov. It would, howeverz be cool if the extra weight reduced recoil but really hurt ergos and hipfire spread and maybe even movement speed or jow long it takes to shift in and out of prone. I feel like that would be a much better way to balance them.
@@MrJamesIkanov theres really only a few reliable high capacity mags out there such as the d60 which is in game but usually they arent very good

@@AsukaLangleyS02 well, you're kind of wrong, but I'm mostly talking about the 60 round caskets and some of the other extended mags. Militaries don't use drums because they're heavy and don't fit on web gear more than anything
@@warmonkey3216that’s not true there are many very reliable extended magazines. The only reason the military doesn’t use them is because the bulk and longer reloading times aren’t worth the trade off of more ammo. Beta mags are some of the best mags you can get, the 100 round and 60 round surefire casket mags are very nice as well. Tarkov exaggerates it to the max. Maybe the Glock KCI drum or whatever is in the game is terrible irl but there’s good options in real life with reliability close to GI mags. (There are better mags but it’s not garbage)
This is useful for med binds too, i have my 4 and 5 slots binded to 4 press and release, while having calok and ifak on those slots it will heal heavy>light>heal with one button, can use other combination of meds too ofcourse

Amazing tip, thank you. Works with bandages for heavy and light bleeds too if you use 2 keys to make eachother go off on 1 press and subsequently 1 release.
Had my first malfunction yesterday with a junky AK I picked up off a scav in the middle of a close-range gunfight. I had no idea what was happening or how to clear it so let's just say I was dropped pretty quickly. This video is very helpful; hopefully the next time this happens I don't freak out again.

I use default T+Shift, but I do the check chamber on press and fix on release. Should work with a 1 key bind too to so you only need to press once instead of twice

An insanely valuable trick. I put mine to Left Alt + LMB. That way I'm not reaching around the keyboard. Plus a gunshot wound to my left hand limits my reach a bit.

Very cool way of dealing with this. I honestly can't believe how terribly thought out the default keybinds for the inspect/fix actions were. Pressing L then shift T, for 2 actions that are literally meant to be done one right after the other...

Good video. I use press v for inspection and double press v for clear malfunction. That way I can hit it once then spam the key after

@@meekosaurusReX Hey! idk if you know this, but the keybind menu lets you change that "double tap time-out" there's a slider at the bottom of one of the menus that lets you choose what fraction of a second you want the delay to be. (I personally keep it on .3 s, and I think the standard is .4 s)

You can also set "inspect weapon" to continuous and "fix malfunction" to release so you hold down L or whatever keyring until it finishes the animation and then release and it clears the malfunction.
i just set inspect on press, hold the button until yellow flash, then fix on release

I don't quite know how BSG manged to make a fairly detailed system simultaneously too simple and also convoluted, but they did. Why they thought performing two separate actions/animation sets in sequence was necessary, when it derives no additional benefits nor difficulty is beyond me. IMO, they need to unify the inspect weapon/chamber feature's and utilize other existing features like racking the bolt or loading a fresh mag to "fix" malfunctions.
I'd also like to see the addition of failure to lock, with the use of slamming the bolt or forward assist.
Field cleaning either with a kit, a shake and a tap, pouring water on it or even cycling the action and forcing firing until the weapon self-clears; would be nice maintenance feature's that don't require a dedicate malfunction keypresses and could be part of good weapon care system for more advanced players.
What this game needs is a solid wipe cycle spent entirely on removing bloat and reducing the feature creep in this game. I mean, this game is so overly complicated for no reason in so many areas... if you reduced the bloat and clutter by just 20% the game is still way more convoluted than 99% of the rest of the shooters on the market.

wouldn't it be better to have "inspect" as press and "fix" as release? That way you only press the button once? Press and hold until yellow, release and you are fine to go? That is how I have it set-up at least.
you could do this, but its not the quickest. you'd have to know the EXACT time that you can release the key to fix the malfunction. the quickest way would be to spam one button until its fixed, each to their own though 😛
That def sounds more efficient. I think one could argue that Lew's suggestion probably doesn't take up much more time vs your suggestion. So they're both good bits of advice either way. :)
@@2Lew true, on my version you need to pay attention for the yellow alert before releasing. I have it set-up on my mouse, so it works ok, but I can see how it might be annoying for some.
u wont press it once only either way because ull also be sprinting around for cover or dodging shots

Can you make it left click? You're not going to be able to fire anyway so of you keep clicking it will inspect and fix then shoot?
Literally inverting those settings on the same key so that you check with press and fix with release (after briefly holding the key pressed) fixes everything in one blow.

Haven't played in a long time, had no idea this was a thing at all... had a double feed right in the middle of a fight I was winning after killing 2 other players. It was shaping up to be a rare successful round for me... until that malfunction

I'm honestly glad about the drum mag nerf, not because I dont like them but because they are comically unreliable IRL, If you ever see someone with a drum mag in real life they have no idea what they are doing

@@kmieciu4ever mostly stick mags, the drums were fazed out. They just look cool so that's mostly how they are represented. Pretty much every weapon that was originally issued with drum mags moved to box mags in their later life, example the Thompson. A good way to think about it is if it worked well we would have kept using them.
@@kmieciu4ever ppsh drums were pretty reliable, but they were expensive and required hand fitting to make them that way. the stick mags were still more reliable and cheaper than the drums

i tried this and id didnt work, it would only do one of the motions. i had them both on H with one on press and one on release. on yours you have H then L by inspect? is that what im doing wrong?

Hey Lew, I have been wondering how your game is so clear when in dorms and other dark areas. When I'm in dorms, I can't see anything it's so dark but in your videos, it's quite bright but outside it looks the same. How have you done this. Love the videos btw

if you hold the key long enough for the inspect animation to finish just releasing the key will automatically clear the malfunction
what if you put inspect on press and check chamber on release?
By only ever using guns bought with 100 durability, and usually repairing them if I have used them a lot (basically anything under 90 is a repair), I've managed to only ever get *one* malfunction this whole wipe (currently, am level 34) as a PMC when I forgot to repair an AKS74U, and that malfunction despite killing me, saved me from killing santa and losing a whole ass point of fence rep, so if yall ever wanna totally avoid malfunctions, just use guns with good durability, you'll run into them very rarely. With scavs you can't avoid it happening occasionally but still, worth keeping in mind, they will be very very rare occurrences if you remember to fix your weapons and don't use scav guns/buy super used garbage rods off the flea
Hey Lew pretty sure if you switch the press and release order around you can fix malfunctions with one button press. You just need to wait for the inspection animation to finish on the press of the key, then on the release you can clear the jam. That’s how I’ve got my binds setup at least
you could but by setting it to the other way you run the risk of getting stuck in a check gun animation loop if you keep having to take your finger off the button because your getting shot at and keep having to press other keys to duck behind other corners etc. (i have had people charging and had to keep dropping back while reloading etc and having to hold a key during that might not be ideal.)
the beauty of this setup is that if your character knows the issue because there has already been an inspection the press option triggers when you press the button fixing the jam but if you have not done an inspection yet the press option is skipped because it is not active which means that you can just spam the key and the gun will go through the unjam process every time. needing to spam a key is much easier when your trying to juggle multiple things the way tarkov makes you.

Just a heads up: I actually avoided this video the first few times I saw it in my recommended because I thought it was a new exploit to circumvent the weapon jam system, based on the wording of the title. I enjoyed the content of the video and I was pleasantly surprised with it though, so there's that at least.
me i put hold then release when you hold wait till you flip the gun then when you flip the gun back release it then it clears try in offline then go into raid
I got the "inspect" on press and "Fix" on release. So all i do, is push one key. I press down, hold it a sec, and then release.
Works for me.
