It won't have been Susie (too new) or Super Kins (too nice) and Sam and Lucy seem like they'll be so disconnected from what's happening to manage many put-downs.
The incredulous and amused "No." after Alex called his beard strawberry blond got me right down to the marrow of my funny bone, the neighbours probably heard a shriek.
Withering ... just absolutely witheringly dry. I actually don't think Alex *was* grey before that "Strawberry...nooo..." but it hit so hard that it immediately produced greys that echoed back in time.
I was thinking the exact opposite! I reckon he'll just not give a shit about winning, like Victoria Coren-Mitchell, and be entertaining in his intransigence instead.
I definitely remember him being over the top and somewhat hyper. I'm on board with the possible recent stroke idea. He is very mellow like Paul Sinha was. Just saying.

Sound is so low in this video and then the outro hits you like a freight train. Boy am i ready for a new season, just one of my favourite shows in all time.
I’m an Aussie so ahead of this series I’m mostly excited for Sam. I do know who Sue and Lucy are, but kept hearing the British fans really excited about Julian but I had literally no concept of who he was. Seeing this makes me understand the hype. Subtle genius
Having seen all the other interviews where people just accept that they have to do what Alex asks, it's even funnier that Julian refuses to change to portrait.
Julian is so fearless and funny and he plays to win, while looking completely low key. I can't wait to see him do the tasks, and take the TaskMaster on at his own game.
Julian is the Frank Skinner of this series. There’s usually one. Part of the comedy establishment. Been famous since the 90s. (Late 80s in Julian’s case.) Nothing to prove anymore. Just chilled to be offered the gig and comfortably, reliably hilarious. The one who Greg will tease for being ‘old’ at least twice an episode.
he reminds me of a quiet guy in a cabin in a horror movie that the protagonists use as shelter and he makes them tea, then they find out he's actually really evil
As usual as a Canadian I'm unfamiliar with Julian, but I've never warmed to someone so quickly! The crackle of Bridget Christie-like chemistry/tension with Alex delivered from the mellow demeanor of Alan Davies, he might be the People's champ for this season!
At the end when they were talking about the portrait, I was starting to think they weren't going to show it. Glad to be wrong and it did have an Easter Island look to it.
He was on one episode of WILTY along with Ronnie Corbett...which I just discovered was in 2010! Earlier this year, he gave a lovely address in honour of the late Paul O'Grady.
Love these but please boost up the sound a bit. I got an update notification mid way through and it almost ripped my ears off because my headphones were at full power just so I can understand anything.
Omg how brilliant, you unearthed this wonderful man. I'm an ex pat in south Africa, haven't heard from him in years, so glad I'll be seeing him weekly for a while. ThanQ
So glad that Julian will be back on TV, he was cancelled for telling a joke before being cancelled for telling jokes was a big thing. Such a trailblazer and a maverick! 😂❤🥰
@@unpreparedwithacapitalfI think it was just seen as disrespectful. The right wing cancelled music ($€× pistols) and comedy (Julian) back then and now the left are doing the same. What a world.
Finally watched this on my phone for the headphones, what a banger! Julian's soft voice is great juxtaposed with what he's saying. The picture is also pretty good, if a bit punk. Certainly better than what I assume I'd manage.
Julian Clary has turned into Your Favourite Uncle. He'd a different kind of pleasing to watch from when he was a beautiful young man in remarkable outfits.
If this task was "burn Alex as politely and devastatingly as possible, your time starts now" Julian would have ran away with those five points like the Hamburglar
I am really looking forward to this series! I've loved every series, but this is the first in a while where there are two contestants I'm really excited about - Julian and Sue. Cant wait!!
... and I'm so thrilled and happy about Sam Campbell being there that my feet do a little dance whenever I think about . This season will go down in Taskmaster history. I'm actually nervous..
There's such a gentleness to Julian's delivery, that he can be really quite bitchy and it's still soothing.
when he insults you he insults you in such a way you dont know that he insulted you lol

Hell I'd settle for half his elegance, at my very best.

He’s lovely

Bloody brilliant. Loved Alex giggling during this. Bet he looked up to Julian and was chuffed he came on the show.
