    I tried it, I purchased a case of the original formula Irish spring soap. I did the test, it didn't work. Don't take my word for it, I posted videos showing animals eating Irish Spring soap. It's that good. That's right, it attracts them and they eat it. :) I'm amazed by this video. Woodchucks just bury it and go on. Deer sniff it and then eats the trees they are hanging from. Skunks will tear down limbs getting to the soap so they can eat it. I wish you had shown actual animals being repelled.

      It's for UA-cam's retention time, I.E. how long the person is watching the video. Facts Verse puts the, "interesting" thing in the title, and then reveals it deep into the 3 minute mark usually. This is to show the advertisers that people are not just clicking on their videos and then instantly leaving.

I've used cayenne pepper powder, but that lasts only a day or two. Moth balls don't work at all, because the neighborhood kids always steal them!

      they simply knock over the pot, and cut off the plant, and leave it there to rot.....at first i thought it was cats, but then i installed cameras....and it was rats.....
      the black pepper was the most disappointing one....i put a LOT of it near the cameras......and the next night they were roaming as usual, no effect at all......i suspect the soap will also not have any effect......my next bid will probably be catnip.....either the smell repels them, or the cats that are attracted will eat them....i'm happy either way.

      LOL. I'm pretty sure Irish Spring doesn't deserve credit for an increase in the potency of your product. You can enhance the quality of your plants by using methods like selective propagation, supplemental nutrients and optimal growing conditions...but not by proximity to foul-smelling soap. Your plants were likely stronger and healthier at harvest because you reduced their stress by addressing the pests.

      @ffggddss 4 роки тому +5

      @Renee Tate We even tried spreading our own urine around the garden, and that didn't deter them, either.
      To any animal, that's about the most potent of human scents; I seriously doubt that hair would have made any difference.
      We've since built a chickenwire enclosure, held up with 7-or-so-foot 2x4's, with a latching door that's a 2x4 frame filled in with chickenwire. It keeps out all but the moles.
      But thanks for the tip.
      Fred

    • @ffggddss
      @ffggddss 4 роки тому +5

      @Renee Tate I welcome input from zoologists, veterinarians, or any other experts in this area, which I am not, but I think animals pick up human scent in all kinds of human secretions, including perspiration, which is almost identical to urine, chemically. And all humans perspire - even when we don't think we are doing so because the water component is evaporating instantaneously. What's left behind on our skin is human scent, and animals pick that up. Urine is filtered from blood by the kidneys; if I'm not mistaken, sweat has a similar origin, but without involvement of the kidneys. And both contain components that are diet-dependent, but they always have some unique human component in common.
      Hair clippings from beauty shops are pretty much all going to have some artificial, cosmetic components in them (shampoo, conditioner, and possibly others), but I guess they must also have human scent, if only from perspiration, which wicks onto hair. Maybe the cosmetic scents are more repulsive to animals than the other scents in there? Or is it just the much greater exposed surface area in a sample of hair?

I grated the soap up with a cheese grater and sprinkled it on the ground and I also hung a whole bar in some panty hose on a part of the fence that I decided to keep up to grow blackberries on it. The smell is pretty strong. I smell it from at least ten feet away when the wind blows it. So far, I haven't been able to tell if it's keeping the deer away, though, because I happened to be working outside every evening at the time they usually come around, since I put the soap up. The light powder scent causes the pests to leave immediately. We pour the Baby Oil on plates and within a few hours, there are dead bugs all over the plate and nothing flying around. We also rub down the countertops with the Baby Oil about once a week during the Spring and Summer and have never had the critters return.
    The Irish Spring Idea is awesome for outside as it would be hard to hang Baby Oil.

      @No Secrets Tell me about it.... I have been on Fragrance Free for years now and it's to the point that I can't even wash my hands without thinking twice.... Zero fragrance can touch my skin.

      Makes me itch too. I use coast instead. Only now coast has gone to smaller sized bars.

    soo next question they didn’t mention,,,,when it’s time to water on days no rain in sight… soap will wash into the soil will that effect the plants?

    • @mikesiver1950

      It won't harm them. Some people collect "gray water" from their shower (via a separate drain) and use it in a garden. It's just soapy water.
