@Renee Tate We even tried spreading our own urine around the garden, and that didn't deter them, either. @Renee Tate I welcome input from zoologists, veterinarians, or any other experts in this area, which I am not, but I think animals pick up human scent in all kinds of human secretions, including perspiration, which is almost identical to urine, chemically. And all humans perspire - even when we don't think we are doing so because the water component is evaporating instantaneously. What's left behind on our skin is human scent, and animals pick that up. Urine is filtered from blood by the kidneys; if I'm not mistaken, sweat has a similar origin, but without involvement of the kidneys. And both contain components that are diet-dependent, but they always have some unique human component in common. Hair clippings from beauty shops are pretty much all going to have some artificial, cosmetic components in them (shampoo, conditioner, and possibly others), but I guess they must also have human scent, if only from perspiration, which wicks onto hair. Maybe the cosmetic scents are more repulsive to animals than the other scents in there? Or is it just the much greater exposed surface area in a sample of hair? Fred
If you click on the first time then the second time. "The solution is Irish origin scent" "Animals don't" Should be enough information to figure it out. Maybe?
huh my grandparents told me about this, I've used Irish spring for years under furniture, under the house and in air ducts to keep spiders away I didn't know mice didn't like it either but to think about it I haven't had a problem with them. They also taught me spraying a 50/50 mix of Dawn Dish washing Liquid and water with a pump-up spray bottle to your house eves, porch eves and any place you have problems with wasp or dirt dauber to prevent them from building nest. I do it once a month during the 4 months of summer in my State.
@@krit5 it’s when you sit down or lay down especially in the evening or at bedtime your legs literally won’t be still. I have had it for years my mother also had it before it ever had a name. It feels like something crawling inside your legs and you have this irresistible urge to move your legs. The sensation comes on about every 2 to 5 seconds, and if you don’t your legs will jump by themselves even in your sleep. Sometimes it takes me 2 to 3 hours for my legs to calm down before I can get still long enough to go to sleep. I have taken medicine for this for 20 years after they gave it a name. I have tried the soap in my bed under my bed rubbing my legs with it it did not help me but maybe I have a more severe case of it. It is nightmare just dealing with it. Hope this helps, and hope you never get it.
@@connectionoflivesandinterests I don't know yet. I just tried it two days ago, for the first time. I had an garden fence, that I tore down, because it was falling apart and I wanted to get rid of it. The former garden and (now the area where is was), is a huge deer magnet because there is this weird minty stuff growing there, that they love. I grated the soap up with a cheese grater and sprinkled it on the ground and I also hung a whole bar in some panty hose on a part of the fence that I decided to keep up to grow blackberries on it. The smell is pretty strong. I smell it from at least ten feet away when the wind blows it. So far, I haven't been able to tell if it's keeping the deer away, though, because I happened to be working outside every evening at the time they usually come around, since I put the soap up. They won't come around if I'm outside. I have to wait and see if I see them out the window on a day when I stay inside.

I had a fly problem one spring, that somehow made it’s way into my clean kitchen. My husband found an easy hack that worked immediately. Fly’s and other bugs HATE the smell of Baby Oil. The light powder scent causes the pests to leave immediately. We pour the Baby Oil on plates and within a few hours, there are dead bugs all over the plate and nothing flying around. We also rub down the countertops with the Baby Oil about once a week during the Spring and Summer and have never had the critters return. The Irish Spring Idea is awesome for outside as it would be hard to hang Baby Oil.

Mothballs work the same way. When we lived in Southeast Asia, we tossed them in the thickets at the end of our yard to keep snakes away.
Mothballs have ingredients that cause cancer. I don't know if you want to use those near your garden you eat
I use them for the same reason. I toss some under my house, in my shed and around the yard.
Probably does but mothballs smell so disgusting
How do you get the balls off of a moth?
In the spring she puts Irish Spring soap in her yard. A few months later she was caught sprinkling Summer's Eve. See a pattern? ;)

LOL !!

Should be enough information to figure it out. Maybe?
Well, this is good information to know! I've got some ground hogs to get rid of! Thanks a bunch! 😅
"It's Springtime in eh baaar"....ah fack, I cut my thumb off!
Used Irish Springs for the door frames due to all the flies this year. WORKS!!

I put mouse traps in my flower pots. Not only is it effective against those damn squirrels, it is also hilarious to watch.

Now my garden is infested with leprechauns..
i love that soap its so fresh
chozenuno it also can be used to get rid of stains from clothing. Just lather up the area , like a wash cloth.

huh my grandparents told me about this, I've used Irish spring for years under furniture, under the house and in air ducts to keep spiders away I didn't know mice didn't like it either but to think about it I haven't had a problem with them.
Thank you for this tip!
Peppermint essential oil apparently works wonders too…I’ll be trying that as well. 😁👍🏻
How often do you change out the soap under the furniture
I love this tip and I am on my way out to buy Irish Spring soap...i have a huge fear of spiders...
Thank you!
😍🙏💞
The smell also helps restless legs!! Didn't believe until I tried it and now I always have it in my night stand
Really? My kid has that problem. Might have to get him irish spring
What "restless legs" mean?
@@krit5 🤔
@@naaomi777 you may need to take him to a neurologist, because if he has this I’m sure he’s not getting enough sleep.
Gradpa why do our veggies taste like Irish Spring😂😂🤣
When it rains, wouldn't the soap get into your plants, and harm the plants or taint the taste of the veggies?
I wouldn't think. It would probably be great for deterring crawling insects and mold
They found wild cermets and decided to give them some soap
GFYB it halps the an cermet grow
What about when it rains!? That soap can't be good for the plants!
Actually my mom had the best garden. Water from the washing machine and sink went out there.
"irish spring has a strong scent animals don't like" I can think of one animal that fuckin loves Irish spring
I remember this from an episode of the Victory Garden show on PBS in the early 90's, that I saw when I was a little kid.
*Do you know if it works? 😁😁😁* Sharon in SC
@@Melissa0774 *Well, I sure hope it works for you. We live in the country & on 1 acre of land & we don't really get anything here. I think it's because our neighbors on both sides have out door dogs. I hope you'll let me know how you make out. I'm in SC where are you located? 😁😁😁* Sharon in SC
I loved Irish spring when I was a kid! Used everyday before school

It's an old remedy, but it works! Keeps the critters away.
When we’re talking about critters is it just like squirrels and deer and big animals or does it keep away bugs like the Beatles eat the leaves
Thanks for watching!
yup you wipe any poison on anything and animals and critters will surely not touch that thing.
@@crash1802 it’s not poison.

First find out whats in the soap, because its going into your plants as well. Srcondly dont use plant food on your garden unless you know exactly whats in it.
I was thinking it might make the vegetables taste like soap.
I’ve used Irish spring soap since I can remember. I even shave with it, as it works better for shaving, it’s better than shaving cream. Irish spring dose really well getting paint and grease off your hands. Good stuff
Same for me,really aggravated me when they changed the original bars into what we have now, still use it though.
@@dennislock3415 they have “active scrub” now that is great for the garage. I use like it better than “orange clean”

So Irish Spring brings the leprechauns into your garden to keep the critters away❓❓
That soap smells great but it makes my skin itch like a fothermucker, allergies ya know? I gotta use Kirks.
@No Secrets Tell me about it.... I have been on Fragrance Free for years now and it's to the point that I can't even wash my hands without thinking twice.... Zero fragrance can touch my skin.
Makes me itch too. I use coast instead. Only now coast has gone to smaller sized bars.
Same here! That’s why I use DOVE, I like how my skin feels after a shower that I don’t need to put on lotion Lol
soo next question they didn’t mention,,,,when it’s time to water on days no rain in sight… soap will wash into the soil will that effect the plants?
It won't harm them. Some people collect "gray water" from their shower (via a separate drain) and use it in a garden. It's just soapy water.
