Gorgeous Large Munsterlanders! And what a wonderful park to walk in. It is very reassuring to see what you have achieved with your boys.
The problem I am having with my 1 year old LM is narrowing his choices off lead. Every time his preference is to hunt, which is understandable being a HPR, but it is making it very hard to give him the freedom he needs as you say in the video. Unfortunately, for his safety I have to have him on a longline whenever we are out at the moment as his choice is not always to return to me despite months of recall training in varying scenarios and types of rewards.
How do you go about ensuring they make the right choice when they are off lead? Obviously these 2 are older and well trained already. But for younger less experienced and even faster dogs for example?

Thank you for your kind comments. Yes they are older dogs but they have done this from being puppies- that is the way I have brought them up. How much choice do you give your LM as part of his normal day? Access to all the house? Allowed on furniture as he likes? Petted when he comes up to you, just coz he’s gorgeous? If you do any of these or similar your reaffirming to your dog that he can choose what he does. If he has benevolent leadership for everything, then they get into the habit of doing what you ask even when you’re out and they are off lead. Have you looked at my video ‘ in the dog house’? Might help?

@@gooddoggietraining thank you for the advice! I’ll work my way through your other videos. Unfortunately he is very handsome so we have probably given him more choice than we should have. I’ll start building more structure for him at home on top of the training.
On a similar note, I am finding him to be a bit reluctant to retrieve. Do you have any advice for how to build drive to retrieve?

@@davidtemple4962 fabulous. You will find it takes some time for him to accept your new leadership but stuck with it and you’ll see the benefit. Some dogs are more determined to do their own thing, so don’t be disheartened if you see other munsters doing better than you. Stick to your guns and you’ll succeed.
Maybe I could do a little video to give some ideas of how to get your dog more interested in retrieving?

@@gooddoggietrainingyes I think we’re going to go through a talking back phase for a while…
A video on retrieving would be brilliant. In fact any munsterlander content is great to see. I’m really enjoying the videos!
