    I like how you explain with emphasis on the concepts/methods rather than the specific tools. I've never used After Effects, but could quickly figure out how to do the stuff you did there in Blender since you explained it at a higher-level than most tutorials.

    Dude, after YEARS and countless hours searching UA-cam, watching UA-cam vids etc... Finally someone who does a crystal clear and simple explanation of a VFX Blender tut. You got a sub from me. Thanks for making this. I'm looking forward to seeing more. One of the best and concise explanations I've seen on UA-cam. Amazing homie! I've always wanted to learn how to do this since starting my VFX journey a few years ago! A few things I'd add tho is suspension physics on the car, (subtle), surface imperfections, specular in-camera effects in regards to the metallic car materials according to the angle of the sun, slight motion blur (very subtle), and i think last but not least exhaust fumes from the car (its probably subtle for this kinda car, idk lmao im not a car guy) but nontheless amazing my guy i still needa learn how to master this process but as time goes by I'll try to improve my renders to include all of the above! Cheers dude, keep doing what ur doing!

    Perfect bro, only a question, why Blender 2.79?

    • @ClassyDogStudios
      @ClassyDogStudios  4 роки тому +89

      Oh, the main reason is because I didn't know how to set up my render passes in the newer versions of Blender, since I was used to having groups and layers instead of just collections! And there were so many shots to create for that video, I decided to stick with the version I was comfortable with. Though I want to start using the new versions of Blender for videos soon, especially with all the new features being added.

    Earlier this week i also saw someone posting about the shadow catching and it showing reflections. But why use a material? You can simple use a materials object? I tested it and it works just fine. Some other render engines also prefer a shadow catcher not to have a material, its simpler and not bounce light issues

    For CG objects that will be partially obscured by the original footage, will you have to mask it out frame by frame in compositing or is it possible to set up certain "objects" in blender that will not render the main CG object when it passes through that "object"?

    I still haven’t had any luck with AE2blend, how did you get such a good result??
    Do you reckon you could do a tutorial on it at some point?

    How you adjust the "scale" of the world when you camera track in ae and bring it to blender? I try to normalize the 3d scene in after effects using hashi's and Andrew kramer's techniques of parenting the camera and null to de origin solid e adjust the scale and rotation, but it seems that doesn't make any difference in blender so every time I'm importing the camera data in blender the camera seems too far distance and the models and scene became too small in the frame. How you fix that without messing with the original scale of your models? Btw, great tutorial! Thanks in advance!

      Hi, Gutemberg! I would recommend doing is controlling all of that scaling on the Blender side of things, instead of trying to set scale inside After Effects (if I'm understanding you correctly). I'm actually not very familiar with AE2Blend, since I've only used it a handful of times over the past year, but I think there are a couple different things you could do.
      If you go to the product page for AE2blend and check out the second image showing the tools in the sidebar, you can see that you're able to adjust the scale of the imported data at the very top. It looks like it also has an option for specifying the distance between two markers (no idea how that works to be honest, lol). But another thing that you can do, which I'm pretty sure I have done in the past, is scale up the empty which the new camera is parented to when you paste your tracking data into Blender. And if you need to be very precise when doing this, you can also create nulls in AE for tracking markers that you want to match to your Blender scene. You're able to copy the location of those nulls and paste them into Blender as empties, which you could then use as measurement guide or even just general size/shape guide when you're scaling your tracked camera. I've done that as well, copying nulls in After Effects and pasting them as empties one at a time into Blender.
      I hope some of those ideas prove helpful, and if not, or if you have anymore questions, just let me know!

      @@ClassyDogStudios Yeah, after commenting I realize that parenting the camera to an empty and adjusting the scale of the empty is the exact same technique as in after effects to adjust the world scale. So I tried and it works. Thank You for answering!

    that was a good intro for the workflow... however theory from practice is something very very different. Looks easy but it isn't at all for us who we are beginners. We would appreciate a tutorial :)
