  • We look at the Raw performance of the only year you can experience RWD in a v8 coupe F-type and compare the driving and differences and overall car differences between the newer AWD models. The model in particular is in Italian racing red and is a 2017 model year. There is even a small roll race with the new C8 corvette in this video. Enjoy the countless exhaust comparisons, launch and rolls checking the performance and driving character differences in these amazing machines.

    Great video, subbed! love seeing the F type comparisons. Would you say the RWD feels faster on the rolling race or does it feel the same, pull wise? Also do you know the 0-60 time differences between the 2? Does the RWD do it in 3.9 and the AWD do it in 3.7s?

    • @PerformanceOnWheels
      @PerformanceOnWheels  4 роки тому +4

      I think the RWD all around feels more aggressive. When I was playing around awhile back, got the tires hot enough I got the RWD to launch with no spin. The app I was using claimed a 3.4 when this happened. Other then that I was getting consistent 4.2 to 60. I would imagine you would see pretty consistent 3.5-3.7 with the AWD. Thank you for watching!!

    Good comparison, owner of a 16 R here. The is no way the 15 can beat a 16+ on performance but it is definitely more fun will less traction. But the 15 also could be potentially dangerous if someone that doesn't know how to drive well or in rain. The 18-20 featured a full LED lights and bumper which differed from the original Ian Callum design, the 21 update is just straight forward ugly, didn't like either update so the best IMO is the 16 and 17

    • @PerformanceOnWheels
      @PerformanceOnWheels  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for commenting. I did have one time where the RWD had the tires hot enough that I had zero spin at launch. Obviously I will go through tires every week if I keep that up. But it sure was fun. I totally agree that the RWD needs to be respected. The traction control does a fantastic job of keeping you in line. You still need to know the right times to get on power so that can assist you. We did do a side by side comparison with the new model. Subscribe and check out that video. For whatever reason I see the new one looks decent in dark/bolder colors.....

      Great video, guys, as expected. When I was in the market for my R, I was conflicted between purchasing a '15 vs. the' 16. The consensus of what I'd read online was that the RWD was a raw, "pure" sportscar but it was difficult to keep the thing in a straight line. By contrast, the '16+ models were better suited for the track and launching off the line, at the expense of extra weight. I eventually decided on the ' 15R and found that the rumors of the car being unmanageable were mostly unfounded (provided you know your limits). My R is a hoot to drive. The only thing I would add to someone on the fence is that your geographic location needs to be taken into consideration. I bought the car when I lived in sunny Florida. Now that I've relocated to the Midwest, the car is essentially unusable in the winter months, whereas I could've lasted the winters with the AWD setup. Zero regrets, and for the money, I wouldn't swap for anything, including the C8 (sacrilege, I know). For the simple reason that Chevy is going to be selling those C8s like hotcakes. Soon, they'll be just as commonplace as your everyday Camaro or Mustang, and there's just something more compelling & exotic to me about the R. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work, gentlemen!

    RWD for more experienced drivers and if you really wanna have some fun oversteering. AWD can't match punching out of corners ;) although it is a disappointment when the tires don't hook at a dead stop. I also did a comparison of sound with my 2015 to a friends 2018 model and my backfire is definitely louder than the newer models. I also never had the update done which when I spoke to my jaguar tech about it the update will reduce the sound produced.

    Got my '16 AWD R a little over a year ago. Coming from my '00 Trans Am it was quite the transition. I've driven w/ my LS1 powered RWD stick / clutch for a couple decades. Honestly, if you want a "fun" RWD experience get something with a V8 & stick and clutch rather than an auto (esp. w/ no launch control) for a helluva lot less $$$. You're closer to the metal and can break the rear tires loose on command if that's what you really want. I've got both in my garage and each serves their purpose. The refinement and sure-footedness of AWD is undeniable; you point it and it goes.

    I hope none of you own tbe V8 in CA. Their 95 decible law is being enforced a lot. Theyre telling dealers not sell vehicles in CA with exhaust soubd mode changes even if its built in and if it is, cop os telling people to take car back to dealer and remove the sport mode exhaust or swap quiet mufflers. Expensive. If there is any slight pop or burble from exhaust even if its 90 DB, you'll still get cited because "pops, bangs,burbles" are not normal for an exhaust as a state ref explained. And honestly it isnt normal, its tuned in to exhaust by the manufactures or after market. Poor kid got nailed in his brand new Hyundai Elantra N. It has a pops and bangs exhaust in sport mode. The cop told him he must go get sport mode removed from the vehicle. Car literally had 22 miles on it.

    Well boys, I've watched this video 4 times now and I feel no closer to a decision. My choices have come down to a 2015 R RWD or a 2017 R AWD. There's about a 4k mile difference on mileage but the 2017 still will have some of the factory warranty because of being 2 years newer. The price difference is roughly 15K. I'm not a big fan of the color of both. The 2015 is pretty much identical to yours with white exterior and 2 tone red/jet seats. The 2017 is black. With black interior. No offense to your white, but I just see too many of them and would like a bit more unique. Same for the black. Therefore I think I'd wrap whichever one I get for a more unique color plus the wrap offers protection. Also, I can black out the car in certain areas. Anyway, that has nothing to do with my decision. But, I've laid out the differences between the two. Is a 15k price difference worth 2 more years newer and the warranty? Not really sure. But my kease is up on my current vehicle. I need to decide very soon. 😳

      Maybe watch just one more time 😉. Me personally? I would save 15k and go with the RWD all day. I think it is more fun, but AWD owners may say the same thing. You can do some fun mods, bank roll some repairs and enjoy the car for 15k.... That my two cents.

      You must own the V6 and are upset you didn't go with the V8. If you honestly think that the V6 is quicker than the V8 in any driving scenario you are just in denial and regret not getting the V8. "Everyone knows" that you mention are the people who have V6s who wish they got the V8. The V8 will always be quicker in every single driving scenario PERIOD.

      @@joey1-7 on a greasy, wet, slippery road in the UK in October, the V6 is quicker than the V8 as long as both are RWD. There are situations where a car with better balance, and less power is quicker than one with a heavier nose and too much power for the rear wheels to cope with. Outright power isn’t everything. At the end of the day roads have speed limits, hence why I said “in real world driving”. I’m not talking about race tracks, because most F Type owners don’t track their cars.

      In the vast majority of driving, the V8 will be far quicker. The V6 cars have their pluses, and they aren’t small, but speed is in the hands of the V8 F Types.
