      Ratatoskr, I've tried getting into outward several times, but can't seem to ever get truly into it. I found it... idk... it felt like the difficulty Spiked to extremes sometimes. The combat was also very clunky 😓

      What's funny is everyone still seems to think goty matters as in it's actually the best game of the year yet these are the same ppl who think ign reviews are a joke when ign is the ones who do goty it goes by vote but as with any voting system it can be crickid/lied bc the reality is I can go through alot of goty games and without a question be able to find much better games that came out that same year but video games are personal preference well I thought til I seen some games that are just plain bad and they won goty even if they aint bad there no where near as good as other games that released same year games like uncharted or the walking dead like these are literally movie video games if you play these might as well go watch TV not much different i can't stand those brainless gamers who will tell you there game is better just bc it won goty then proceed to provide zero valid information on how the game is better talking specifically abt skyrim or elden ring fanboys let's take the Gothic games for example did they ever win goty nope but some would say there as good as the elder scrolls games which did win goty underrated/overrated games exist this is made even worse because fake streamers will play any game if it's popular even if they don't like it they'll pretend and cater to it's large fanbase for views this has happened in so many games elden ring/skyrim being 2 of them not saying there bad games just lil overhyped/overrated not to mention they lack creativity/innovation I think we can all agree horses have become a overused feature in video games off the top of my head the Witcher rdr skyrim elden ring dragon age just to name a few games that use horses it's becoming a overused means of travel innovation is needed flying mounts for example Ravensword shadowlands was ahead of it's time for this yet ign never even reviewed the game so it didn't become as popular as it could of half of these fantasy rpgs that use horses doesn't even make sense the only rpg that ik of it truly makes sense in to have a horse is kingdom come deliverance and rdr but it's not a rpg more so a open world sandbox still yet the horse makes sense in the world.

    My biggest problem in Outward 1 was that exploring the world felt at odds with progressing my character. I want to go on really big trips where I travel long distances, meandering across the map all while just camping and making do with whatever I can find. However, what I actually ended up doing was clearing one cave, filling my pack, then going to a town to sell things so I could buy new skills/gear/supplies and meaningfully progress my character. Having skill progression based on a resource that relies on selling items that fill up your carry weight seems so antithetical to the adventurous spirit of Outward. Filling your inventory weight or wanting to get a new skill just absolutely halted any sort of adventure I was having and made me walk back to the same city for the 20th time.
    The quest design made you walk back and forth to the same places. The skill system made you walk back and forth to the same places. Overreliance on gold made you walk back and forth to the same places. Too many things wanted you to walk back and forth, and if you wanted to do it efficiently it was on the exact same routes over and over.
    My biggest hope that they design the map / quests / skills / gold / inventory weight systems so that I do more big adventures and less walking back and forth.
    Combat was fine in the first one, but an improvement is much welcomed. For me though, I just hope they put just as much effort into improving the other systems.

      What I found different in Outward compared to RPG is that you don't have to be "perfect" hero when fighting the enemy. In other RPG, usually you have to grind a lot before advancing to the next quest, otherwise the fight will be hard. Therefore grinding is encouraged while the next boss is waiting for you to level up. In Outward however, you are never meant to grind too much. Even grinding too much can lead to bad outcome (destruction of Cierzo for example). In Outward, the game was designed for you to rely more on your wit and tactics rather than just pure stats. Even with weak equipment, good preparation allows you to kill stronger opponent. On the contrary, good equipment with higher stats doesn't always equal easier fights (try using full steel plate in the desert). My suggestion is try to approach the game with that perspective.

    • @Colesign
      @Colesign 7 місяців тому +3

      I wonder if filling the open world area with more traveling merchants/skill trainers would help with this backtracking issue you mentioned?

    • @radagast2838
      @radagast2838 7 місяців тому +3

      @@Colesign Yeah, I think it would be nice to have traveling merchants be a very frequent encounter. Also make getting skills not reliant on the gold system and instead a more traditional xp system. For skills, I imagine a system where you visit a trainer and buy a skill book for a branch of a skill tree. Once you have bought it from the trader then you can unlock skills in that book from anywhere once you have the experience points for it. That way you still need to take trips out to the specific trainer but it will be less frequent and allow you to gain skills while adventuring.

      Right? Not gonna name names but some devs could really take a note from Nine Dots. Build upon what is good about your game, and actually pay attention to players' issues with it. Long as they keep up this trend they have the potential to become one incredible game company.
      Notably the customer isn't always right, but take From Soft. They have a formula, it works, and it's proven to be appealing to more than hard-core gamers with Elden Ring. But they stay true to what they do well while still putting in effort to make a game that works for more people. Nine Dots could do it.

    Wow, your analysis of the Outward 2 preview was much better than that of the gaming company IGN, thank you for the possible information so far, I really liked these details about the use of two different weapons, the possibilities, hopefully it will be possible to use 2 pistols too, it would be really cool and more agile since it's a weapon that takes a while to load the shot, another good addition was more slots for us to use, because it helps a lot to equip more skills, more weapons for status and potions in the shortcuts without having to access the backpack .

    Outward's unique adventure against personal adversity is something I absolutely cherished, made Dragon's Dogma 2 such a delight to travel through after accepting it, and a big part of why I'm very much looking forward to more of it from Outward 2. I just desperately hope the world and its denizens "interact with you and your exploits" more.
    I want more meaningful relationships with others in the world to really make it very clear just how much you're improving, and also keep your expectations of your capabilities somewhat in check, with rivals who are just like you and can be just as strong, and others who are vulnerable and need you to be as strong as you're growing. Opportunities for heroism and that fantasy fulfillment of self-actualization and recognition, etc. Despite having three "factions" everything not combat was just background scenery in the first game.

    this looks soo floaty and weightless, i'll freely admit that outward was too heavy and slow but this seems floaty even compared to similar combat systems like dragons dogma and mh.
    this isn't about easy or hard or fun, this is about outward's combat being more about resource management and tactics than button skill and combat
    i like the way it looks and it seems a lot better for some. but i don't know if it will be for me, kinda seems like a good game for my friends who couldn't get past the aggressive unfriendliness that separates outward from its peers but still want the "skyrim survival mod" parts

    Outward is the best couch co-op game I have ever played, which is rare form in modern gaming. I would say the most valid criticisms of the original game were the clunky melee combat and inability to put more than a small handful of skills on your hot bar. Ninedots knew exactly what they wanted to fix and released the demo to say, "see, we know what's up". I don't fall into hype very often because I'm so used to being let-down, but it's hard not to hype about Outward 2 because I can see the fact this game is going to be a masterpiece right in front of my eyes.

    I hope they work on the world building and quests and immersion. I spend weeks modding my oblivion (or skyrim for that matter) to get something close to vanilla outward in term of magic mechanics, survival, combat, ambiance, all those thing the game have it better than any other, it just lack something to do outside of exploring.
    We need activities, quests, npc interractions, voiceover, buildings to explore, people to meet, morality, etc.
    If they can keep what outward is and make it a gothic type of RPG world, this would be a legendary game

    This is probably a pipe dream, but since they have pistols and spears in the first game, I've been really hoping for a bayoneted musket as a weapon in Outward 2. Being able to use the two-handed spear weapon moveset alongside the reload/fire option could open up some really cool build options if we get pistol shot style abilities like the first game. Fingers crossed!

    This looks amazing. Basically seems to pull a DD2 in keeping the game intact but making it better. Excited to play this

    I've played the first one, great game, time gated quest and no hand holding, no leveling system, depending of faction a permadeath system too, temperatures to survive etc, really cool and relentless adventure and survival game ❤. Hope a split screen coop like the first one, It was awesome really.

    I was already excited for Outward 2, and now I'm even more so. Outward seemed like right up my ally, but I've struggled to get into it because of the clunky feel. The sequel seems to address all the issues I've had with the first one. This might be one of the few games I buy at full price.

    I loved the concept of the first one so much and really wanted to play it.. I probably tried getting into it 5 or 6 times, but it just didn't catch, mostly due to jankiness.
    This time around it sounds much better!

    I noticed the lack of HP & Stamina burn in the footage, and it concerns me. HP/stamina burn was my favorite mechanic of the original game. It added a lot of immersion and was such an elegant way to incorporate numerous survival mechanics.

      I think it might just be because this demo focussed on the new animations and combat and less on survival mechanics - it would really surprise me if they got rid if it

      @@artival22 ya it also did not have carry weight for pocket so they probably had a lot of stuff disabled to just be able to showcase.
