If you're wondering why I included a clip at 1:32 of Kida, originally I was gonna have text there explaining why she and the other Atlantians are actually kinda problematic depictions of people of color, but I'd rather let this fantastic video essay on why the movie is actually pretty darn good do the explaining for me. You can admit something is problematic and still love it, fam: ua-cam.com/video/a_jlxXm4_2g/v-deo.html
Another reason why this is a completely awesome intro to a channel for me to stay subbed to is the fact that you stood up to The Princess and the Frog and even Frozen II.
Hey say nothing against episodic series! They are just another format and Tangeled NAILED that format =D!!!... Until it had an over arcing plot. I like both. The more episodic episodes were so cute and enjoyed ^~^ I have nothing against other characters having some more adventures without things changing. Both formats have something exciting. (I Stil like the video tho :3)
Honestly, I'm so surprised how underrated this show is. There's an engaging plot, good characters, and S O N G S. The show has some fault, but its no doubt better than most.
Yeah. The characterization is the best of all (perhaps with the exception of Cassandra's betrayal, which still has people split as to whether it makes sense or is just a bitch move).
Gothel not only scarred Raps for life through her abuse but she also straight-up killed Eugene (the only one who ever genuinely cared for her aside from Pascal) right in front of her eyes.
Also she never bothered to tell Raps that she once had a biological daughter that she abandoned because all she ever cared about was staying young forever, so Rapunzel didn't even know Cassandra existed during the first 18 years of her life.
@waylon lewin No, Rapunzel is 18 in the movie, she turns 19 in the finale of the first season (when they fight against Varian). Eugene previously thought he was 24 during the course of the series but in the latest episode (Cassandra's Revenge) it was his real birthday and he found out he is actually 26. Rapunzel isn't 16, because then their relationship would be very creepy.
I’m a fool. A clown. The whole goddamn circus. I knew the show existed, but I didn’t expect anything. I’m not sure why. I love Tangled. It’s my favorite Disney Princess movie. Now I have to play catch up.
_"She never went back to check on Varian and Old Corona and to see what he needed help with."_ THIS. THIS. THIS. Thank you for speaking to this! I saw plenty of people at that point in story very confused by Varian's actions, many willfully neglecting to examine how Rapunzel's choices were in part to blame for his choice to step onto that path. Rapunzel may be sunshine and rainbows in outlook, but she still has some major flaws that often display in the form of avoiding her own failures. There's this example with Varian, where in her agony over breaking her promise she ignored she could still do something _after_ to help, and in the most recent episode during the "Girl Who Has Everything" song, we see that she's completely painted Cassandra out of her mural, effectively erasing the person she hurt from her story. It's such excellent storytelling to how Gothel's actions have continued to reverberate and affect these characters, like you said.
Strap up folks cuz I'm about to RANT First of all, I whole heartedly fully support Varian so if you are hater your eyes will bleed from all the love I have to give him. You have been warned. First of all I'll introduce Varian: One of the three teenagers who exist in this show targeted at teens. Way to go. Varian's goals at the beggening of season 1 are simple: Helping people with his knowlege of Alchemy and making his Dad, the leader of Old Corona, proud. Since the beggening he was portrayed as sympathetic because many of us can relate to wanting your parent's aprooval. He's shown rather accident prone and clumsy, but well intentioned and a loving soul, ready to help whoever may need it. He got introduced as very smart scientist, specificly an alchemist ("chemestry" would be mor accurete but welp) and Rapunzel came into his house asking for her hair, beacuse he had the reputacion of being a wizzard. She came for help and Varian was more than ready to give it (No, I'm not salty they left inmediatley after they were done amd left him without even saying "goodbye" or " This introduction we get in "What the Hair". When we see him next time in "Great Expotacions", his goal is to impress Cassandra, beacuse he had a crush on her because she saved his life in the past episode when the water heaters exploted. The episode was a fine filler, I guess. He kinnda Tried Too Hard* in his attempts of impressing Cass, with the excuse of her helping him in the science exposition, while he got indifference in return. He cleaned a whole frickin castle for his crush. Hell, I wouldn't clean my room if my life depended on it. Oh, and in the end? He ended up loosing the contest unfairly, because Cass didn't keep good on her word. Yada yada, apologizes were made and Varian forgave her and everything, but this is where things started getting interesting. He shows Rapunzel, his "friend" by now, some spooky black rocks he found near Old Corona. There he discovers the rocks have some sort of connection to Rapunzel, and Rapunzel tells him to promise he won't tell anyone about them, beacsue "my dad forbidd me from talking about these rocks to anyone" those were her words. There, she promised they would collectivley figure out the black rocks and asked him to investigate them. He, wanting to help as always, and either way with no way of refusing the Princess's order, said yes. And then things go ver bad very quick. Next time we see him, in "Queen for a day" the black rocks have utterly ripped through his village. Houses are shown destroyed and lifted from the ground, chasing people out of their homes. One even ripped through Varian's lab. One even almost impaled Varian, and, while the show wouldn't show us that, I'm sure some people died. He then travels with his dad to Corona, to "make the King aware of their problem", or so Varian thought. Truth is, Frederick already knows. Don't expect him to do anything, though. Quirin also knows that Frederic knows, and they both know what brought them. Frederic's choice of putting the wellfare of his family over all the lives in Corona. Quirin warned him about it. He still did. Anyway, after seing Quirin "lie" to the king (who Varian still thought unaware of the rocks(though I think that's a plot hole, since Rapunzel mentioned Frederick forbidding her to talk about it (maybe he thought he didn't know how bad the situacion had got))) he told Rapuzel about them. Rapunzel then quickly assured him everything would be "okay" and they would fix everything, once her parents returned from their anniversary. Nevermind why Frederick is going on a fun trip while his people are dying. Varian belived her, and returned home. After seing his father also lie to the people of Old Corona, he decides, since no one is doing anything, he'll take matters in his hands. Thus, investigates the rocks even further. AND QUICK PARENTESIS: He states that the rocks will reach the island capital in a matter of MONTHS. Remember this, it'll be important later. Unfortunally, one of his solutions backfires and ends up growing, Quirin pushes Varian out of the way, and Quirin gets trapped in the ambar instead. Panicking for the only family he has left, he goes for help to Corona- in the middle of a damn snowstorm. Let's ignore how he, by all rules of nature, would have died. How the hell did he run all the way to Corona like that. Oh, but we had a beautifull song. Plus points for that. Then he ran through the guards, who tried to stop him from "infiltrating the castle". First of all, *why would he have to run past them* Isn't everyone seeking refuge in the castle? Why shouldn't Varian? Second of all: Rapunzel. What. The. Crap. Look, I understand. I'd be a hypocrit (*cough*likeRapunzel*cough*) if I shamed her for not going with Varian right then. Lives were at stake. I get that. But WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU LET HIM BE THROWN OUT OF THE CASTLE INTO THE SAME SNOWSTORM YOU'RE TRYING TO REFUGE YOUR PEOPLE FROM?! Her orders fell on deaf ears, and that's on her. She's in charge, and he let him be thrown out. Also, Cass is just watching. Varian could have died. When he returned, he was an orphan. He was completley alone in the world. Rapunzel, her friend, betrayed him and his Dad is trapped and unable to even move. Ruddiger can only provide so much emotional support, and zero economic and physical help. Which he needs, because he's still a child. Oh, but Rapunzel luckily fixed the snowstorm and now is available to go check on Varian, isn't she? Yeah! Will she do anything? Of course she won't! She has nothing to gain from Varian, why would she care? These episodes were aired out of order, and were actually meant to be AFTER QFAD: Pascal's Story, Big Brothers Of Corona, The Wrath Of Ruthless Ruth, not to mention Painter's Block and Not In The Mood. Seems like anything is more important than helping the teen you trew out a deadly snowstorm. Who made it very clear he's probably an orphan now. I DID SOME MATH. Just to show how much crap the whole damn kingdom put Varian through and never got called out for. According to astrologist, Rapunzel's birthdat is on May 12. May for short. May is just in the middle of spring in Germany, where Corona's supposed to be located. In "Before Ever After" we are informed six months had past since Rapunzel's 18th birthday. Meaning it's November, mid Fall. So, if the Coronation is on November, and Season 1 finally is Rapunzel's 19th birthday, 6 other monts are yet to pass. Those 6 months correspond to half Fall season, Winter and the beggenings of Spring. Winter starts 21th of December, and ends on March 22. I assume QFAD is naturally Winter season, becaus eno one was even surprised by the snowing. Rapunzel even stated she'd never been outside when it snowed, which means winter hadn't yet passed since the tower. According to that, QFAD must have taken place near February. Since it's made clear The Quest For Varian, The Alchemist Returns and Secret Of The Sundrop are all quickly passing, it would be three months between QFAD and TQFV. Three. Damn. Months. This child was abbandoned FOR THREE DAMN *MONTHS* THERE IS NO F*KING EXCUSE FOR THAT Oh, hey Royal Guard sent by his gracious travesty King Frederick to harass a child and break into his home to steal a scroll that's in his property to hide your secret. Let's all just ignore the fact that Frederick kept a child under arrest in his own house just for knowing too much. Anyway, now Varian sent a letter asking for help. Again. Oh, Princess had a bad dream about Varian? Let's just paint him with a meancing look. Nevermind he's still supposed to be your friend. Nevermimd you ABANDONED HIM. Let's remember what matters in this episode isn't Varian needing help. Isn't Rapunzel saving him from the guards that broke into his home. Isn't even about a princesd acomplishing her duty twords one of her subjects. It's about Rapunzel getting her answers. Remember how Rapunzel only cares about Varian when he has something to offer? He only managed to make her come to his humble home when he offered something in return. In this case, answers. Oh, yeah. Varian stole a dead flower. The horror. How dare he steal something he needs to save his only family. How dare he put his needs over Rapunzel's wants. How dare he not care about Corona when he specificly said he needed to "lye low" from the people of Corona for his owns saftey. When some stupid rumor said he attacked the princess that night. How DARE HE steal the flower from Frederick when the damn flower wasn't Frederick's to begain with. When he himself stole it. How is Frederick hunting down the Sundrop Flower to save his family any different fron Varian stealing it from the vault to save his? Oh right, cuz he's the KING and therefore stealing is wrong, except if he does it. Oh right, cuz when Frederick stole it he knowingly sacrificed his kingdom to save his family, and when Varian took it he was harming no one. The damn flower didn't even work. How is he stealing the flower any diferent from Rapunzel demanding the Moonstone from Edmund in "Destenies Colide"? Oh right, because Edmund actually had a valid reason to protect the Moonstone and Frederick just kept a dead flower in the vault. OH RIGHT, BEACUSE STEALING IS *WRONG* UNLESS IT'S RAPUNZEL! And why is only Varian charged with treason when Rapunzel was clearly an acomplice? Oh, almost forgot the truth serum thing. How is THAT any different from Xavier's Mood Potion? How come Xavier gets a free pass? How come Eugine (even if accedentally) used the mood serum on every one in the banquet room, almost provoking a war, gets a free pass? Oh, RIGHT. Beacsue they're all Rapunzel's friends. Varian's not, though, because he was mean to her. Look it's late in the night, I'll continue ranting tomorrow. It will be a long rant
@@areldyperez8446 please continue wtf this is every one of my thoughts screaming at rapunzel. honestly parts of this can't be excused by trauma and influence but the majority can. she doesn't receive any backlash for anything in the show both because she's the mc and princess and because it's from her pov
I love this show so much, it’s perfectly crafted. Even if some fans dislike the darker stories, I enjoy them if they’re not edgy. I personally will continue to support the show until its final episode.
I don't necessarily mean which stories you label as the darker stories, but I definately love that not everything is happy all the time and there is some drama and mystery so now and then. Makes it better for older audiences too I think.
Eugene and Rapunzel also have a lot of funny moments. For the longest time it felt like TV writers didn't know how to make a romantic relationship both healthy and funny. So much of the "Humor" from a couple came from how dysfunctional and mean they could be towards each other or by presenting one person in the relationship as an absolute drain on the other. That is a troupe I am so sick of.
I would like to see his scientific mind in work early this season. The dude is a genius and would be nice to see his tech fro S1 end being reporpused to protect the people against Cass.
Literally! When I heard the majority of the songs for the first time I believed they were from a BROADWAY MUSICAL! That’s how good they are. Especially Varian and Cass’s songs
Varian is my favorite character of the series. I love nerdy characters, engineer/scientist characters, redeemed villains, and sympathetic villains, and Varian is all of those.
I....UNAPOLOGETIC......ADORE THIS SHOW......I already loved Tangled as a film...but this show.....it surpass its predecessor in every way possible, expanded the world, developed all characters in majestic and many mature ways, and the art style....gosh this and Carmen Sandiego (another underrated show btw) art style are just mnnnnn I LOVE THIS SHIT. I love this show and I glad is going to have an ENDING and not took 5 seasons a movie and a epilogue series to conclude (cof, cof, I love you Steven but.....goddamn). The way they treat the characters and relations is soooo good, well written and smart, I love Cassandra, Rapunzel and Eugene relationship so much, I love the surprises and harsh reality they introduce in this series, I love all the twist and surprises well developed VILLAINS who....yeah I understand were they comes super easily, I love the romance between Eugene and Raps, I love the friendship of Cass and Raps and they impending break up, also yes I ship them, but I like they are friends....sorry queen not everyone need to be gay....pls don't kill me.....I love the side characters, the songs, the art, the lessons the music, the story, the lore, the back stories.....man I LOVE THIS SERIES....its criminally underrated and yes, for the longer time Ariel was my favorite Disney Princess.....but Raps is just THE BEST, there is not a single Disney princess that comes close to her, Mandy Moore, I might not love you as a pop singer, but you give me my favorite Princess and so many amazing songs, so thank you for that. Thanks for make this video and share the love for this show.
Varian could've been less of an asshole , as in he could have avoided going up to 11 from the start just because Rapunzel prioritized the safety of the entire kingdom over his father being trapped in amber, but that's the only true complaint i have with the Tangled series.
@@Compucles Sure, but stealing from Corona's treasury, kidnapping the queen to blackmail your friend (who's the daughter of said queen), nearly wiping out the royal guard with killer robots and creating a serum for the explicit purpose of interrogation is still going too far, expecially when you factor in that Rapunzel refused to help him save his father because a killer storm was about to wipe out the kingdom, it was 1 person vs an entire established nation. Scratch that, why didn't HE help Rapunzel so that the whole situation could subside much faster and she'd have the time to help him? Stop excusing terrible motivations just because, if he's capable of creating an army of killer robots he can put two and two together if he heard Rapunzel's reasoning.
Maybe trying to find a way to get the moon stones power too? So she could take the sun drop out of repunzel and wouldnt have to deal with her anymore, idk. Just a lil theory
I have complicated feelings about Cassandra. On one hand I agree with a lot of your assessments and can kind of see the complex character they were trying to go for, on the other hand I feel that Cass makes a lot of oversights that lead her to making excuses, not try to fix her problems and instead just stew in her own bad feelings, and over all take things personally when she knows it's not personal. (I have no clue why she thought helping Rapunzel on her journey was getting in the way of her own destiny. She wants to be a respected member of the guard and she's currently working as a bodyguard for the princess on an important mission. She even stated that she learned a few new things while on their journey. Sounds like exact kind of chance she's always wanted.) None of this would be a problem if it were building to a character arc where she must face these feelings and choices she's made because of them, but from the looks of the newest episode, it seems like they're moving away from her "making irrational decisions because of taking things personally and just wants to pin blame on anyone" to "evil magic is corrupting her mind." Boo. Don't slowly wipe away her agency.
@@skullita4D It was actually in that scene when they were birds and I just looked up the scene to make sure I was remembering it correctly and Cassandra's exact words were: "These trail of rocks are YOUR destiny but I dropped everything to get you there." And I heard that line and I just thought: "Wait a minute what do you mean you dropped everything? This is the job you always wanted. You're helping her because serving the royal family is what Royal guards do. And you spend all your free time training to be a royal guard who goes on dangerous missions just like this one. What else would you being doing with your time other than training for a mission like this one? What did you drop?"
Actually I personally love her character I think that Disney did a good job on her! The reason I say this is because she perfectly shows real world symptoms of kids with narcissistic parents. These kids will try to cling to their parent figures and basically try to become them. Which is exactly what Cassandra did with her dad ( she wanted to be captain of the guard her whole life ) and later on with her mother. Even though deep down she knew her mom didn't love her she still tried to become the "villain" just like her mom did. Also the reason why she said that she threw away everything to come with Rapunzel is because she had always felt second best to her. While what your saying is true Cassandra always had a grudge against Rapunzel. Which kinda stopped her from thinking rationally. The way she saw it, she wasn't even the main character in her own story. Rapunzel was. However I do agree with most of what your saying
I personally feel that Cassandra’s arc was a bit rushed; it could have been due to the limited seasons TTS had but I’m not quite sure. I see this happen a lot, where a character will start our very intriguing and complex, but due to certain constraints the writers drop parts of the character’s personality or motivations. It’s frustrating but I think the TTS writers handled it well enough.
I watched Tangled the Seires for Cassandra, I saw it passing on TV and tought "who is this sassy lesbian vibes girl?". Jokes aside, I was looking foward to see her character development. . Sorry my rusty english
I can’t believe she didn’t even touch on the music not every song is a banger some do fall a little flat but the songs that hit hard hit hard. Ready as I’ll ever have chills the first time I heard it just wow.
HI I'M 17 YEARS OLD AND I OPENLY ADORE THIS SHOW AND OFTEN ADVERTISE IT TO MY FRIENDS AND FORCE THEM TO WATCH IT ALL THE TIME BUT THEY'RE ALWAYS LIKE "bruh, a cartoon? srsly?" and then i cry
the fact that there isnt an entire section about varian and how well handled his character was came as a shock to me. but i agree, this show is woefully underrated
Same, especially with the season 3 episodes! Most prominent developments for him being Rapunzel's Return, Be Very Afraid, and Cassandra's Revenge. Gosh, I just love him so much, and I love how he's reacting to what he did, and how he's trying to make up for it.
I've been looking forward for this video. I agree, the series is criminally underrated. The animation looks like moving paintings, it's so gorgeus, the soundtracks and songs are so amazing that I listen to them every day, and the characters... they're the best part. The romance between Rapunzel and Eugene is adorable, and I love these two so much. Side characters like Rapunzel's parents and Varian are also very well developed. And I looove how much personality and characterization Pascal and Maximus get. They are animals and cannot talk, but you still always see how they feel and what they are thinking, they are treated as equal characters who even get their own episodes, I love it. Cassandra is my favorite character though. Her sarcasm and how the show often calls her out on her abrasive behavior (mostly through Eugene - them constantly roasting each other is always fun to watch) is really enjoyable. And despite how smart and brave she is, she is a very flawed and insecure character, and when a lot of unfortunate events make her insecurities boil over and destabilize her friendship with Rapunzel, all it takes for the villains is to give her a little push by reviving her trauma and using it to completely turn her against Raps. Okay that got longer than I expected. Anyways, thanks so much for making this video!
I love the idea but I think there would have to be some more characters... Don't know if they could think of enough plots involving just Maui and Moana.
@@KingAgniKai it was, but the people of Moutoni embraced that they were voyagers with the help of Moana at the end of the movie. So perhaps a series could be about discovering more islands?
@@johcats3183 the entire show cant just be finding islands. And would there be an overarching story or just episodic like the Little Mermaif and Aladdin shows? A moana show just cant work
@@KingAgniKai yeah i agree. dont know how they would pull it off but im sure if they wanted to theyd find some way. they did really well with tangled the series
This was such a terrific video covering many of the show's strengths. I've always liked the Tangled movie and I was interested in the series when it was announced, but it became so much better than I ever would have expected. Rapunzel and Eugene's relationship is easily one of the highlights for me. It's so refreshing to see a couple communicate their feelings so openly. They still have problems to deal in their relationship, but they don't have the more cliche drama and "will they get together?" kind of conflicts. The conflicts feel more real or understandable given that they usually are due to their personal problems, so it's much more rewarding to see them come together to improve their relationship. It's a good example of a healthy loving relationship, which we need in more kids shows, as well as in media in general. I also love that neither of them feel like just the boyfriend or girlfriend. Rapunzel and Eugene's relationship is immensely important for both of them, but they have other problems to deal with. The video covers Rapunzel's trauma wonderfully and Eugene's conflict during the season two finale highlights his low self-worth problems. They don't surface too often since, as he said during his song, that he thought he found where he belong, but they are clearly still there, especially when he thought that Rapunzel fixed him before. Not to mention they have other important relationships that provide different dynamics and insights in their personalities. Few of the characters feel one note. Even most of the supporting cast gets a chance to shine to become more layered or fleshed out. This is easily one of the best series Disney Channel has made. The characters are interesting, the plot is engaging, the art style is great and it's an all around solid series. It is impressive to make a mystery interesting when we know where at least the movie characters are going to be by the end of it. I wish that Disney Channel gave it more promotion, but I'm glad that it was made and that the series is going to reach its conclusion. Tangled the series made me appreciate and love its movie even more than I already did.
I think it's interesting how you can see Eugene touching Rapunzel's face, how she leans into his hand. While being raised by Mother Gothel, she always touched her hair, showing her love for the Flower over Rapunzel herself. Eugene loves Rapunzel and who she is, not her power or name. I agree with you I love that their relationship isn't shown as perfect.
The whole show had great songs. I often have a hard time choosing my favorite. Nothing Left To Lose is one of my favorites. Definitely. I just love how they went full broadway with that song. Crossing the Line is another amazing song. I love Next Stop Anywhere. Let Me Make You Proud and the reprise touch my heart. The Buddy Song is another great one (love jazz). Ready As I'll Ever Be is an awesome song. That was actually the song that got my involved in the series to begin with.
Varian felt betrayed over no one helping him fix his own mistakes despite warnings. His father didn't even even try so Varian tried to solve the problem. Cassandra wants to be the hero and so she becomes a villain.
@@michaelnally2841 I am endlessly sympathetic toward Varian but when he mentions Rapunzel breaking her "promise" I lose connection a bit. This promise she supposedly broke is so vague, I am not sure what he is referring too. I do think he has a right to feel neglected by Rapunzel (because she did neglect him even after the crisis passed. Not cool,) but he keeps talking about her breaking her promise and...what did she promise exactly? That everything would be okay and work out and not to worry? She has no earthly control over things going okay or not. This is the part of his decent into villiany that I feel needed to be fleshed out more and made more clear because it doesn't make sence and makes Varian seem like he is more emotionally fucked up than what his characterization up till that point showed us.
Sage Ninja plus to be fair at the moment her kingdom needed her more than Varian did. But at the same time, she never went to check in Varian once the disaster was over.
@@michaelnally2841I feel salty that the writers glossed this over. I feel they tried too hard to coddle Rapunzel and demonize Varian in their conflict.
*ONE MORE THING* Every video reminding everyone that this show a) exists and b) is amazing should also mention Broadway star Jeremy Jordan's absolute domination of the role of Varian. And when they give him a song he doesn't just kill it, he commits multiple homicide.
One of the reasons Varian is my favorite is because of his voice actor. I just *love* Jeremy Jordan so much and he's perfect for this role! Plus his redemption! It's perfect for him. It explores how his mental state was affected when Raps chose her kingdom over him, breaking the promise she had made to him. After all, he only had his dad until Raps and Cass came along but when he needed their help the most, they broke their promise, causing him to decide "it's not enough until you endured the same amount of PAIN and SUFFERING I have".
Oh dear God Varian is winn just with alchemy instead of computers Edit: and u know evil Varian I'd evil for a bit while winn was always on the good side sooo ya
I think a lot of people just don't give it a chance because it looks very childish. On top of that I don't really see any promotion or living community for it. I think a lot of the Disney Channel shows get expected to be childish, but they actually have some great stuff for adults too! DuckTales is another example of that.
@@p.8967 Especially if they think it will be similar to "Elena of Avalor." I tried out Elena by watching the pilot movie and first proper episode, but I couldn't stand the childish dialogue nor how useless the adults were. "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure" is a *much* better show even before you consider its excellent arc-weaving.
@@Compucles Yeah the dialogue and jokes can be fun for adults too, but I think noone initially expects that before seeing it so they dont give it a chance.
My heart drops every time I see the scene where Varian desperately tries to get help from Raps, only to get dragged away from the guards... It's heartbreaking
I watched it regularly when we had our granddaughters over... I liked the show! MY wife and I miss the shows we watched when the Granddaughters & grandsons were over. We still catch a show here and there when the mood hits us, good Animated shows are fun for all ages! *(-:*

I've always adored this series! When it first came out I didn't think too much if it but later on, when I gained some common sense, I discovered how incredible it is. Cassandra is by far the best part of of this series.
I’m Ready As I’ll Be for this video (Sorry I had to make that joke) Edit: I also stan Gay Cass In my opinion she is Demi-Romantic If Cass doesn’t get a redemption I will be LIVID Cass is such a mood

becuase of the latest epsoide i dont think she will the blue girl needs to get out of the way everythime she has a reason she might be a little upset becase when she was sitting on the thore she seemed a bit sad
Saw this in my recommended after watching Cassandra's Revenge and listing to Nothing Left To Lose over and over again. Glad to see people appreciate this show!
I just realised. The captain of the guards adopted Cassandra after she was abandoned by Gothel. Would he have not realised that having her later be her handmaiden would be a bad idea?
The trama part REALLY surprised me!as a fan of tangled for like....7 years seeing this and actually realizing that it’s SO true is disturbing in the slightest.yes,it’s true, people’s pasts can change and mold who people are in the future.and they do develop rations and coping mechanisms to try to not imagine the fear the trama so that they can’t and won’t snap to the prison that is mental health. Also, that music is SO perfect!
I relate so painfully much with Rapunzel. I've been through very similar to her. Watching her trauma was difficult for me, because it brought back some of my own. But they portrayed it so well that I'm very grateful to this show.
Just want to add a small thing here. Tangled did get a small bit of love in Kh3 as it was put in the game, granted it was there with Frozen but of the two the KH3 gang interact with Rapunzel and Eugene, we even get a little dance mini game with Raps. In Frozen Sora talks to Elsa for a bit, she freaks out blocks them with a sheet of ice, runs away, bit later we go into Let it Go which was recated shot for shot in game (with Sora, Donald and Goofy in the background) and aside from the above scene Sora and the others don't speak with Elsa ever again.
I hate that Rapunzel leaves the party when you get there. Actually, I hate how kh3 did both the movies...the movie is basically playing but sora and his friends are photoshopped into background and into the slower parts of the movie where nothing exciting was happening and when the action picked, up Sora was knocked out by Marluxia and kicked out of the plot by an avalanche. I wish they had did a semisequel like the other worlds.
@@swordkingx4874 Yeah! The Tangled level was okay with some cute moments but could have done so much more; my expectations were way too high. Like, Sora and co. could have helped Eugene avoid the guards on his date with Rapunzel by being distracting, or they could have helped the pub thugs bust Eugene out of jail. Just being a little more involved would have been nice.
@@thatwrengirl that's the problem high expectations. That's why I enjoyed the tangled world better because I didn't have high unrealistic expectations , I limited myself when it came to the trailers. I enjoyed it a lot more than frozen. I mean the frozen world wasn't too bad but it's my lease favorite world.
It's true. Disney Channel barely bothers to promote the show anymore. The new and final episodes just quietly air on Sunday 7am now (or randomly on the app). It's truly underrated and quite good like the amazing movie!
Finally thank you so much I have searched and found so few videos about this series that wasn't scenes from the show. Love your channel and your opinion of this show is spot on it is so underrated
I read a Tangled fanfic AU that ranged before the movie, the movie, and into the series. And there was a lot of trauma and emotional things that I could never understand from the movie. It really made me see how much trauma she really had. More than I thought too.
Ariel was my favorite princess my entire childhood--- then Tangled came out in 8th grade and everything changed. I threw my little sister a Tangled birthday party when she said I could pick the theme, I've gone to a lantern festival dressed as Rapunzel, I wear a ring that is modeled after Rapunzel's crown 24/7, and I am currently choreographing the ballet recital dance for my 4 and 5 year olds I teach to "Wind in my Hair." Yeah. But like, I still love Ariel nearly as much and always feel an acute sense of betrayal just demoting her like that. So, when asked I always say "Rapunzel is my favorite... just don't tell Ariel!"
I hope cassandra gets redeemed and finally gets to be happy. Also giving her a girlfriend would be a great bonus. And for people saying she has to die because of tangled ever after, maybe she can just travel the world or something and doesn't make it in time for the wedding.
@@SallyBMcgill fuck no, that's the most garbage ship there is. Also some of the story board artists and writers said themselves that they view cassandra as gay.
@@SallyBMcgill absolutely not, Cass would never, even when he did turn 18, it would be so uncomfy for her to date someone she saw grow up and as a kid.. also most people (cough cough me) headcannon Cass as into ladies
I can't even begin to tell how much i love tangled: the series. I've always loved the tangled movie a lot more than the frozen films, and the series even more. It's probably my favourite show of all time.
Haters, I don't know. I'm not a fan of her and I barely understand her motives to become a vilain ... More like going against rapunzel at all, but I totally agree on the fact that she's a gorgeous badass XD
Every time I saw the commercials for this show I would be like, "Man all cartoons to represent the original movie suck." I watched it for the first time and the first episode was the Snow Day one and I entirely took back what I had said and I was intrigued. In the end my favorite character was Varian for being the one who made the first episode I ever watched to be interesting.
Yup 🙋🏾♀️ My mother has thankfully been changing for the better. But I remember when the movie first came out I related so much to Rapunzel and Gothel's relationship. Some of the things Gothel would say were legit things my own mother would say to me when I was growing up. I also so a lot of my own personality traits in Raps. It was nice to experience that.
Thank you so much for this video, Unicorn of War! You gave me a new insight into the show that I've never thought that I needed to know. And you helped me appreciate both the movie and the series even more. The staff and crew who worked on the series put a lot more effort into it than they needed to. The series might have a few flaws, but I've enjoyed it as much as the other Disney shows.
Actually, I remember Raps DID try to talk to Cass about her feelings (mainly about her choice in not listening to her when everyone's lives were in danger), but this only after Cass had her arm burnt from the Hurt Incantation. And they only talked after Cass accidentally wiped the princesses memories XD But yeah, I do agree that Raps is at fault. However, I should say the same for Cass since there are times she locks away her heart at times. And I think the very first demonstration of when we see that is when Eugene attempted to have a heart to heart while talking about their real parents. While they did come to an understanding before the house of yesterday's tomorrows, I still with both tried to talk to the other more prior to that.
#spoiler Cassandra revenge ‘I finally says yes’ and he does. Honestly I love this series it’s way better. It could have been like frozen could have been with anti villains. I love these two. I have no words cause I love it. Nostalgia since I was 10. I love the style of the 2d. Glenn Keene wanted 2D rapunzel but they went with cgi. I still love the cgi.
I found your channel based on your winx club based discussions and everything there, and im glad I did. This was a really well done video and even though i LOVED tangled, i kinda had phased out of disney channel so didnt give the follow up content a fair shot. I wrote it off as animated continuation just trying to make a quick buck by profiting off the hype of the movie. I am so glad to be wrong. But all the depth you've talked about in this video, the development, amazing. Tangled the Series is definitely being added to my personal to-watch list because of your excellent analysis of all the amazing aspects of depth and storyline it has.
I remember about a few years ago when I was moving from one house to another, me and my family were living in a hotel, which meant we had TV again! This show was airing and I was actually blown away with the quality of it, I totally forgot to check it out so thanks for reminding me that this show exists!
Maybe the way she reached Varian in S3 worked, because she knew that do the same thing she did with Cass wouldn't work? And this series is trully amazing: the visuals, writting, all!!! - but I'm curious to see how the "whiter and decay" would look in CGI.
I'm old enough to grew up on both Aladdin and The Little Mermaid series (among other 90s and 00s Disney cartoons based on movies). That LM episode about the deaf mermaid really stuck out for me as a kid and she's based on a real-life girl!
Tangled was my favorite disney movie as a kid- I watched it countless times. When this series came out, I was excited but not expecting much. Man, was I happy to be wrong!
I came across your video a few months ago and I've wanted to watch the show ever since. I finally got around to it recently and honestly no regrets at all! I fell in love with the characters and the beautiful animation and I'm so sad it's over now
I would want nothing more than for this show to get the kind of public recognition it deserves. I know it has a following online but more people need to see this. It's so good for all the reasons you've explained and more.
The only villain that overshadows Gothel in terms of how real they are is probably Judge Frollo from The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. There are so many similarities in how they treat our protagonists (including plenty of gaslighting and manipulation).
I was soooooo hesitant to watch the Tangled Series. I didn't start watching it until about a few months ago, and I'm still only in the middle of season 2. (College, man..) I was like, "ehh, it looks cute, but I doubt it's anything special aside from that one song Ready As I'll Ever Be". That song was my first encounter w/ the series; I found a Warrior Cats MAP with that song and wanted to know what it was from. (Check it out here it's got a lotta great animation! ua-cam.com/video/HVTcsw1CW8Y/v-deo.html), However, the second I watched the actual clip with Varian, my Recommended Section was just like, "Hey" "Hey" "You watching the Tangled Series yet?" "Hey" "Here's a clip of blue-haired Cass" "Hey" "Heyyyy" "Hey lookie at this adowable alchemist who would totes be your son if u just WATCHED THE SERIES" "Heyyyyy" "Have another Tangled song" I gave in pretty quickly, but in the beginning I immediately fell out of watching it after the first several episodes because of college and my lack of interest in the characters. Maybe it was just because I wasn't a big fan of the shenanigans from the first half of s1? For awhile, the only thing I enjoyed was the back and forth shade that Eugene and Cass throw at each other. Honestly I tend to usually watch a series first for only a single character, then the others grow on me. Jaskier in the Witcher is another example, but in this case it was Varian as the second half of the season started picking up the pace for the overarching plot. Idk it's weird that it took me awhile to enjoy any characters (even Raps) aside from Cass and Varian. But I'm glad I'm hooked now.
TOP ANIMATED SHOWS (IMO and in no particular order) - Tangled the series - Star vs the forces of evil - Phineas and Ferb - Kim Possible - Gravity Falls
I haven’t watched it yet but i can already tell its a very interesting story ( at least from what i have seen of the series since it first aired ). Also a 31:16 video on it? This must be serious business.
I am 17 and I love Tangled the series because of the characters and animation and Cass is my favourite character because she's reminded me of me because I am shy and reserved and silly and I love martial arts and am protective of my of my friends and friends
Yea, I have started watching and that show makes me want to cry happy tears. Tangled was a very nostalgic movie since I got it on dvd since I was 3 or 4. So seeing this show was so cool. I love the characters and varian is so good. Frozen was more of a “look we can make princesses with real powers” rapunzel is such a good princess. I love her and Eugene so I was so happy when they were back. :)
Yeah totally missed opportunity, hopefully they change their minds with the Marvel shows focusing on the side charecters was such a big hit and Loki being the biggest one yet
I enjoy how the show cooperate the children humor and some appropriate un/intentional young adult's humor. The cast is legendary, the animation is classic and the songs are the best.
I found the tangled font thomas on ffonts
Wow this video just made me realize that Rapunzel treated Cassandra the way Gothel treated Rapunzel when she was in the tower! 😭
I Guess Tangled is left waiting in the wings.
The more episodic episodes were so cute and enjoyed ^~^
I have nothing against other characters having some more adventures without things changing. Both formats have something exciting.
(I Stil like the video tho :3)
Honestly, I'm so surprised how underrated this show is. There's an engaging plot, good characters, and S O N G S. The show has some fault, but its no doubt better than most.
The songs are so freaking good. Like, everything about this show is good in my opinion. It's so underrated.
waylon lewin I agree with most and the others are “underrated” because most people just don’t like sequels I personally do but to each their own.
Yeah. The characterization is the best of all (perhaps with the exception of Cassandra's betrayal, which still has people split as to whether it makes sense or is just a bitch move).
@@bigbluebuttonman1137 Now we have Cassandra's revenge, with one of my favorite songs, nothing left to lose
@@bigbluebuttonman1137 And I like crossing the line a lot
Gothel not only scarred Raps for life through her abuse but she also straight-up killed Eugene (the only one who ever genuinely cared for her aside from Pascal) right in front of her eyes.
And by extension Cass.
Also she never bothered to tell Raps that she once had a biological daughter that she abandoned because all she ever cared about was staying young forever, so Rapunzel didn't even know Cassandra existed during the first 18 years of her life.
@waylon lewin she's 18 in the movie (2010) and turns 19 in the serie, so in the end of the serie she's probably in her early 20s
In the movie she had her 18th birthday so she's 18. ^^
Believe it or not, this show is animated in a studio near where I live.
Guess who applied there.
I hope everything goes well
Who? Your Sibling?
You lucky dog!
Wow guys, thanks for the support!
I hope I get the job there. I'm trying to apply for a storyboard position.
Good luck, hope you get it.
I’m a fool. A clown. The whole goddamn circus. I knew the show existed, but I didn’t expect anything. I’m not sure why. I love Tangled. It’s my favorite Disney Princess movie. Now I have to play catch up.
Then finding out is an unexpected treat! Enjoy catching up!! Especially since you won't have to suffer through hiatuses. ^_^
It also happened to me!! I saw a trailer and tought "woa, another sequel of a classic movie for the sake of money" BOY I WAS WRONG
Yes watch it!
That was me like a month ago and now I’m completely and utterly obsessed
Woo, haha. Have fun. Emotional rollercoasters by the bucketful!
Ikr!!
I was searching through her paintings to find cassandra, surely she couldnt have forgoten Cassandra?
But bam, shes gone, lmao
That’s what make the villains in this series so engaging - it’s almost never purely their fault and there’s always a sympathetic side to them.
@Cyber_girl this comment was prob written before that happened considering its from a year ago (maybe idk i don't watch it)
Strap up folks cuz I'm about to RANT
First of all, I whole heartedly fully support Varian so if you are hater your eyes will bleed from all the love I have to give him.
Three.
Damn.
Months.
This child was abbandoned FOR THREE DAMN *MONTHS*
THERE IS NO F*KING EXCUSE FOR THAT
Oh, hey Royal Guard sent by his gracious travesty King Frederick to harass a child and break into his home to steal a scroll that's in his property to hide your secret.

I still hope is mostly light hearted. That way the non light hearted moments can you hit you harder.
Perfect example of this trope is Ross and Rachel, all they did was argue and it was constantly used for comedy.

Sounds like exact kind of chance she's always wanted.)
None of this would be a problem if it were building to a character arc where she must face these feelings and choices she's made because of them, but from the looks of the newest episode, it seems like they're moving away from her "making irrational decisions because of taking things personally and just wants to pin blame on anyone" to "evil magic is corrupting her mind."
Boo. Don't slowly wipe away her agency.
The evil magic is pushing her but her pain is real.
@@skullita4D It was actually in that scene when they were birds and I just looked up the scene to make sure I was remembering it correctly and Cassandra's exact words were:
"These trail of rocks are YOUR destiny but I dropped everything to get you there."
And I heard that line and I just thought: "Wait a minute what do you mean you dropped everything?

Ready as I'll ever be is one of the best songs in the show in my opinion
The only song I can think of that I don't really like is Livin The Dream, idk, it just seemed OOC for Hook Hand.
Rapunzel's and Eugene's relationship is the most developed and explored canon ships of mine, which is saying a lot.

the fact that there isnt an entire section about varian and how well handled his character was came as a shock to me. but i agree, this show is woefully underrated
frøsti sameee I was just waiting for the Varian section but we did get to hear about him at least a little bit 😂
Same, especially with the season 3 episodes! Most prominent developments for him being Rapunzel's Return, Be Very Afraid, and Cassandra's Revenge. Gosh, I just love him so much, and I love how he's reacting to what he did, and how he's trying to make up for it.
Probably because she's trying to minimize the spoilers for as much as possible for non watchers or new people to the show.
Also how he's voiced by Jeremy Jordan!!!
Agreed I love Varian. Such a likeable character and someone intersting Disney geek guys can relate to.
I want a Moana series like Tangled, I think that one has so much potential.
I love the idea but I think there would have to be some more characters... Don't know if they could think of enough plots involving just Maui and Moana.
Isnt Moana set on a single island? Most of the show would take place there and they could find a new one in like finale of a season. But then what?
@@KingAgniKai it was, but the people of Moutoni embraced that they were voyagers with the help of Moana at the end of the movie. So perhaps a series could be about discovering more islands?
@@johcats3183 the entire show cant just be finding islands. And would there be an overarching story or just episodic like the Little Mermaif and Aladdin shows? A moana show just cant work
@@KingAgniKai yeah i agree. dont know how they would pull it off but im sure if they wanted to theyd find some way. they did really well with tangled the series
Tangled is way better than Frozen
Bruh everyone says that. And its true

FACS
Nope.
Me: “Crossing the line is the best song ever”
Nothing left to loose: “Hold my beer”
The whole show had great songs. I often have a hard time choosing my favorite. Nothing Left To Lose is one of my favorites. Definitely. I just love how they went full broadway with that song. Crossing the Line is another amazing song. I love Next Stop Anywhere. Let Me Make You Proud and the reprise touch my heart. The Buddy Song is another great one (love jazz). Ready As I'll Ever Be is an awesome song. That was actually the song that got my involved in the series to begin with.
Ready as i'll ever be: QUIET!
Stupid joke because of PMV : OPEN UP YOUR EEEEEEEYYYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSS!!!
Lol
@@RoseCadenza and wind in my hair is probably the best Disney princesses song.
Varian felt betrayed over no one helping him fix his own mistakes despite warnings. His father didn't even even try so Varian tried to solve the problem.
Cassandra wants to be the hero and so she becomes a villain.
ColdUtopia although he did have a right to feel betrayed by Rapunzel as she promised.
*ONE MORE THING*
Every video reminding everyone that this show a) exists and b) is amazing should also mention Broadway star Jeremy Jordan's absolute domination of the role of Varian. And when they give him a song he doesn't just kill it, he commits multiple homicide.
jeremy jordan has my HEART
Also Jeremy jordan played winn schott on supergirl for the first three seasons and he is the best character on that show in my opinion
Sad Fact: In the comics, Raps thinks Cass would hit her for making a small mistake but Cass says “she’s not with Gothel anymore”
What comics?! Does this show have a series of comic books or something I don't know about!?
Cowgirlladynoir Horses Yes but I have no idea what the books are called
@@Astrolionking I'll look them up

@@shiruu6319 no, I got the Rapunzel and the Lost Lagoon book but that's all :/
One of the reasons Varian is my favorite is because of his voice actor.
Oh dear God Varian is winn just with alchemy instead of computers
Edit: and u know evil Varian I'd evil for a bit while winn was always on the good side sooo ya
I don't know anyone who dislikes Tangled, actually I've heard a lot of people (including myself) saying they love it!

Wotso was the first person I ever saw talk about Tangled the series and got me into the show! It's so fucking GOOD!
3:37 HOW DARE YOU DROP THAT BEAT ON ME LIKE THAT!! I WASN'T READY😂😂😂
Gotta agree there.
Did sorta seem contrived to knock Sora out like they did.
@@Mysticgamer frozen world is understandable but disagree about tangled

It's true. Disney Channel barely bothers to promote the show anymore. The new and final episodes just quietly air on Sunday 7am now (or randomly on the app). It's truly underrated and quite good like the amazing movie!
I still don't really get why Big City Green gets more advertising attention than RTA season 3.

I read a Tangled fanfic AU that ranged before the movie, the movie, and into the series. And there was a lot of trauma and emotional things that I could never understand from the movie. It really made me see how much trauma she really had. More than I thought too.
I read one like that too but It was with Varían as her adopted brother!!!

Ariel was my favorite princess my entire childhood--- then Tangled came out in 8th grade and everything changed. Or cass

Maybe the way she reached Varian in S3 worked, because she knew that do the same thing she did with Cass wouldn't work? And this series is trully amazing: the visuals, writting, all!!! - but I'm curious to see how the "whiter and decay" would look in CGI.
I would like to see Cass, Varian, Lance, Owl and Rudiger in cgi

'other friends' walked so 'crossing the line' could run
I was soooooo hesitant to watch the Tangled Series. I didn't start watching it until about a few months ago, and I'm still only in the middle of season 2. (College, man..)
I was like, "ehh, it looks cute, but I doubt it's anything special aside from that one song Ready As I'll Ever Be". (Check it out here it's got a lotta great animation! ua-cam.com/video/HVTcsw1CW8Y/v-deo.html),
However, the second I watched the actual clip with Varian, my Recommended Section was just like,

"Hey"
"You watching the Tangled Series yet?"
"Hey"
"Here's a clip of blue-haired Cass"
"Hey"
"Heyyyy"
"Hey lookie at this adowable alchemist who would totes be your son if u just WATCHED THE SERIES"
"Heyyyyy"
"Have another Tangled song"
I gave in pretty quickly, but in the beginning I immediately fell out of watching it after the first several episodes because of college and my lack of interest in the characters.

You know what's up really infuriating? That Varian almost got his own series but Disney said no because hes a side Character
Tangled The Series Songs are so OP
Not many talk about this show. It needs more recognition.
Wow! An underrated series indeed.
The fact that Raps felt the need to had a little tiny lizard is so sad
Like Gothel never let her have anything that made her happy
