    Gosh this is painful to watch. Poor love I just want to take her home and love her and feed her! She's on her last legs here and yet she still has more talent and star quality in the tip of her little finger than most of today's 'stars' do in their prime. They broke the mould when they made Judy they really did.

    Few artist are still admired 53 years after they've gone. The Greats, Chaplin, Cagney, Ella, and Judy. Nobody has come near to her, really, they may sing fantastic like Whitney and others......but no-one, NO-ONE, connects with and audience on Every Song...like, Judy could. We still miss you..and we know...You did it All for Us. I'm humbled...

    What an inane discussion. So many interesting and important things Carson could have talked with Judy about and he goes down this sugar plum road.

      alinette b Do you think it was that exact trip to London that she passed away? If so, that is really sad. But she does seem pretty out of it here.

      Fred Herrman yes. It was her last trip to London and she performed at The Talk Of The Town In Leicester Square. My father went to see her and was appalled because she was late in appearing and the audience got angry and started throwing things at her. She really wasn’t well.

      Pink Ladyluck Judy came to London in January 1969 for Talk Of The Town concerts. She and Micky Deans lived at 4 Cadogen Lane in Chelsea until her death in June. She only left once to perform concerts in Denmark in March after which she returned back to London and died.

    I LOVE JUDY!!! She's been my favorite singer since I was 12 years old. I'm 61 now!!!!! Almost 50 years!!! I think she looks very good. She went downhill fast in the last 6 months of her life. Pictures and film of her AFTER this she looked very bad and old. I'm so surprised her appearance changed so much in 6 months.

      She looks completely different here than in a another appearance 4 months prior. But, she always did have a different look and different way of talking in almost every interview and appearance, and then you add to that up and down weight. Almost looks like different people playing “ Judy”, especially throughout the 60s.

    Like most of us, I loved watching The Wizard of Oz when I was young, back when it aired only once a year. I especially, and to this day, loved hearing her sing Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Then, still as a young boy, I saw her perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. Even at my age I could see that she was clearly out of it. She was strangely swaying about and slurring the words to the song. I remember asking my dad if she was drunk and he laughingly replied "No... She's just acting that way. She always acts that way." I realized better though. So heartbreaking. Rest In Paradise Judy Garland...

      Unfortunately by the mid-sixties she was essentially flat-broke. After years of poor financial decisions and being swindled out of her wealth by shady lawyers and investors, she was literally living in hotel rooms and selling her belongings to avoid repossession.

    It is great that this video survived but it is a real drag to think of the video that was lost from the Tonight Show just to save pennies. Lennon & McCartney were on earlier in '68 but that video is lost (Except for a fan that filmed the TV screen and another fan that made an audio recording. It is criminal what NBC did.
    Almost all of NBC's The Tonight Show with Jack Paar and the first ten years (1962-1972) hosted by Johnny Carson were taped over by the network and no longer exist. The videotape was being used repeatedly, hence the reason that Carson's Tonight Show picture looked muddy during broadcast in the late 1960s. Selected sequences from the 1962-1972 era survive and were often replayed by Carson himself (particularly in the months preceding his retirement in 1992) and have been released to home video.

    • @norelcopc2431
      @norelcopc2431 8 років тому +4

      NBC didn't "save pennies" when they reused video tapes. They save thousands of dollars. They didn't think the tapes would have any value in the years to come. Of course it's a shame that the tapes didn't survive but we can't judge yesterday's decisions using today's information and insights. Hindsight is always 20/20.

    • @michaelterry1000
      @michaelterry1000 8 років тому +1

      You are right. NBC didn't save pennies, they saved thousands of dollars and often times the only recordings that survived were fan recordings. Somehow those fans valued the interviews (that had no financial value to them) more than the interviews and performances did to those that legally owned them.

  • @nonKinkyPinocchio
    @nonKinkyPinocchio 5 років тому +12

    I don’t know.. I wish in this particular interview they treated her with a bit more respect. Yes she’s a star but she’s also a human being and (though might not be on purpose) making her a part of the drowsy flu medication ad at the end came off particularly cruel. I know that Johnny is being playful but at this point he should be versatile enough of a host to switch to more old school/respectful line of interviewing, with someone who’s struggling and be more galant

    • @zephyr332
      @zephyr332 5 років тому +3
