she was so great. she's been gone longer now than we had her. but we'll always have her work. I love all her movies, and her voice and presence were bigger than life. truly no equal in this world.
i knw, it seems strange but sadly true
How amazing this is. Johnny Carson does his best to coax a good, coherent story out of Judy, who is obviously not comfortable. When she finally gets through her vaudeville story, she is asked to sing a number. From the moment the guitar starts playing, Judy has the entire viewing audience in the palm of her delicate hand and does a magnificent job, singing and acting the lyrics to this bittersweet holiday song.
Peter Mintun Garland didn't like interviews as she was a shy, private person. Ironic considering her status as a performer.
I love how she tells that "Happy Harry" story. Great sense of humor..
Fabulous Judy Garland .. 💜🌿
She was SO BEAUTIFUL!
Thank goodness we can see the whole interview, and not just the song sequences..
Really enjoyed this. It's 17 December 2015 today, 47 years exactly.
Judy💙🙏🏽
SHE IS FOREVER MAGICAL!
I was aged 6 then, and what a pivotal time. This was a truly magical appearance, and somewhat prophetic and very sad now in retrospect. I remember when I learned of her death in the paper one afternoon and thought how she didn't look anything like Dorothy. Mum said she had a rough life and a sad end, and I didn't really know what that meant then.
I love Judy her songs acting and she was a great lady and Mom to her 3 kids !
Adored by some of the most cynical, hard-bitten show business insiders, who, pros that they are, recognize true art.
If a more multi-faceted performer graced the American stage, can't say who even comes close.
And when she brings all the pathos and chops to bear on such material as this, it's not hard to see why, if anything, her legend doesn't diminish but grows. A singular talent.
WOW!! A wish of mine came true. I always pined to see the entire interview. Pulls everything together for us Judy lovers.
Bless her 🤗
4:06 "perfect for a 7 year old girl" acerbic and sharp Judy 😊.. 💜🌿
Rest in heaven ❤️
Till after the holidays, so beautiful ❤️
Amazing Lady!
Still maintained a sense of humor. You can hear how slow her words are coming and the slow vibrato when she sings. Almost no one could pull this off and Still have the audience love her
Johnny's make up person did a wonderful job on Judy!
one of the greatest of all time rip judy
adore her even now and I'm 42
The show must go on! The anecdote about Happy Harry proves that!
Magic from the moment she starts singing always
WOWZAS...NyQuil was the actual sponsor lol and Johnny said Hey if you need to get some sleep.....
What a fitting way to finish her last appearance on the show. She’d be gone from this earth a mere six months later. Her sadness in life showed in this performance.
"Why don't you sell the mic?" Lol. She was witty too.
She's amazing
Judy Garland 😘😇
WOW!!! So good to see this again, ahhhhhh the beautiful good old days!!!💕🎵🌷💜🦋🎶
I love her.
I'm surprised she looks as good as she does here! They repeated this on The Saturday Tonight Show (or Sunday, I forget) and I made sure to stay up and watch. This was a big deal because there was no home video or VCRs then.
Maybe it was all the hype surrounding her death of substance abuse, or the fact that just about all I'd seen of her was in "The Wizard Of Oz," (big deal to kids back then), but I remember her as being absolutely wrecked in this and the other appearance. Except for being slightly unsure of what she was going to say, she came off well! She looked good too for 46, which back then was considered a lot older than it is now.
If she was a total wreck, she hid it well. It's surprising all the things I've read about her not getting any gigs or very small or low prestige ones.
Judy Garland is only 46 years old in this video.
S955US84 pretty sad, isn’t it? Hard life aged he run a hurry.
This poor woman never got to have a real childhood.
Keyvin Rink she was ruined by Hollywood. Tragic.
About six months before she died 😢
You can tell Johnny is having a hard time connecting with Judy
Borrowed Time right here….
The thumbnail looks like Carol Burnett playing Norma Desmond.
