I was playing a local tournament once and got matched up against the most serious looking guy wearing a suit. But I won and was full of confidence. Next game was against a guy wearing a shirt with a large picture of an ostrich on it. He looked way too relaxed, that's when I knew I was in trouble. Lost badly.

Hikaru has mentioned that the strategy to beat these younger prodigy type players is to bring them towards the endgame as that’s a mentally tasking and heavily experienced based part of chess. Hikaru said these kids are more tactically sharp, that’s why you see the kid playing the Marshall attack against Hikaru. Problem being the Ruy López is heavily deep in theory and Hikaru definitely knew that the specific pawn structure that occurred was good for him.

@@wsemenske because Salami was low on time... it is easy to play fast when you are learning theory more years than your opponent is living :D (and this was fun event. I respect Hikaru for playing with the chess crew to help them grow)

I've watched a lot of Hikaru over the years. Never had I seen someone actually take his king. Props to the kid. He's gonna be fine in life.

Lol Karpov offered that kid a draw with a clearly winning position, I wouldn't call it destroying him but rather teaching

The best part is when Hikaru undoes the Prodigy's move and says "No no. Block with the Rook."
