Beating Everyone with the Same Opening Trap (Stafford Gambit)

This video features 3 games (played in the same day) in which the white side falls victim to the same simple and devious opening trap in the Stafford Gambit. The trap involves a "fishing pole" idea with an early h5 and Ng4. While the Stafford Gambit is not necessarily a sound opening, it is highly venomous. If white is not prepared, then it can be easy for black to win quite quickly!

Me be stupido but why dont they just take the horsey looking thing at g4?
i dont mean to be so off topic but does any of you know a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow lost my password. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
This opening is now a meme literally every time I attempt it nobody takes e4.
this.
Yea
No, they take on e5 but they don't take the knight on c6.
@@leadnitrate2194 Hi I got the same problem most of the time they don't take the knight !!!
Because taking e5 is a bad move, you lose tempo. Guard e4 instead and keep developing your pieces.

when you're rated 930 in bullet this gambit is like a free win.
Low rated players usually don't fall into this because they don't know enough opening theory. Usually only 1400+ player know that the best move in Russian Game is to play Nxe5, which is required to create a Stafford Gambit.
@@nikolson191 exactly. im 1100 and still a lot of players dont take the free pawn

I think the reason why the Stafford Gambit works so well is because the correct way to play looks dangerous and sketchy, whereas the dangerous/sketchy way to play seems like the natural and most solid way. It's super counterintuitive.
It's very tempting for white to castle kingside because it just looks so natural and obvious. Otherwise, your king is going to stay in the centre for several moves.
But it's very tough to play pawn to c3 instead, because it effectively means that not only is your king stuck in the centre, but you've also made queenside castling less appealing, due to moving the c-pawn. So it seems like the most dangerous move, and yet it is the safest move.
also instead of g3, e5 is really strong
Ppl were trolling

Answers to everyone's questions in the comments:
Q: Why can't white play pawn takes knight on g4?
A: After black responds pawn takes pawn on g4, it's mate in 4 for black, see 8:55 (Keep watching from this timestamp if you want to see other ways to defend that also fail, and also the best moves to play in the position)
Q: After queen takes g3 check, why can't white take the queen with the f2 pawn?
A: That move is illegal. Moving the f-pawn puts white in check from black's bishop on c5, see 0:46
Thanks that helped
Thanks for explaining!
Oh i see. Im going to try this gambit :)
Moving f2 pawn is like king sacrifice
At 0.09 why can't white push pawn at e4
0:29 Why wouldn't he just take with the pawn? What am I missing???
WHY AM I SO BAD
edit: nvm I see it now. Pesky bishops way in the corner sniping you.
Can't if the pawn take the knight, the black's pawn will take the white's pawn, and clear way for the black's rook which can protect the queen in the next move, another checkmate. The best move i think is to trade bishop and knight
Still don't get why pawn didn't take queen on 0:29 can someone explain?
@@gauthamworld Bishop on C5 prevents that pawn from moving. It would be a discovery check.

It was a long time ago, but our chess instructor explicitly said that circles in castling notation are letters, not numbers. PGN agrees, at least according to Wikipedia. I think Mr. Chat really should accept O-O too. :-)
6:47 Now you know how I feel every time after the exam. _I covered the exact same thing in lecture last week! Weren't you there?!_ :-D
Really enjoy your videos and tactics. Big Q on the Stafford Gambit. My opponents usually play pawn h3, then take my Knight on g4, foiling the gambit. Can this be prevented?
@Eric Rosen i have a question. Apparently immediate benefit is generally profitable over later disadvantage, so why is trading a bishop for a rook always considered worth (at least in problems), even in situations where bishops have high value and rooks are not online?
The opening book at lichess will show up that mainly Eric Rosen wins in Stafford gambit accepted or he just chooses the correct oponents to play that way :)
I always play f3 against the Stafford. Learned that lesson a while ago

At 7:04 why didn't they just use the pawn to kill the queen? Am I missing something? (Not the best at chess, haven't played that much)
Its pinned by the bishop at c5
As itzzmatt said it's a pin. The pawn on f2 cannot move because moving it would cause white to move into check from black's bishop on c5. I am also bad at chess but learning piece pins has won me a few of the disaster matches me and my friends play against eachother 🤣

@@flyingkillercob Thanks, I'll check it out.
There are many methods and tricks of chess, thank you for teaching. There are many people who do not know
What are the best moves if his pawn moves e5 and attacks my knight? I have to move my knight away and than he moved a pawn to d4 which would block bishop to d6?^^ I have only 1400 on ches24, so i am really new to chess at all :D
You have to try 5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel on stream one day
0:30 Why can't the white pawn in top left by bishop and cannon just eat the queen instead????
Because there is a black bishop diagonally across from it and if the pawn is moved, the bishop would take the king, so you can’t move the pawn in order to protect the king and block the bishop from attacking the king.
@DoLLaR Sign OG's ok meanie
please excuse my ignorance but wouldn't the queen is in g3 be at risk of getting killed by pawn (in f2) ?
