What scriptures do they use to translate the New Testament? Are they the same Greek manuscripts as the KJV? Textus receptus or Majority text or whatever KJV used?

@@gtgodbear6320 Hello and good afternoon, brother. It's -10 here near Chicago so I hope it is warmer for you, wherever you are.
The CJB is a project and translation by Dr. David Stern. He passed away last year in Jerusalem, near the time of Sukkot.
In section VIII of the Introduction to the Complete Jewish bible, Dr. Stern writes that his translation is based primarily on the United Bible Societies' The Greek New Testament. But he adds that he also consulted a number of English and Hebrew versions and commentaries.
In the Complete Jewish Study Bible, there are so many great articles and notes not just from Jewish sources, but also Christian ones too. His research and work that went into this is astronomical, to say the least.
All that said, when I came to faith in 2010 after leaving Atheism, we mostly used the KJV and the NIV, and even some of the more paraphrased versions like the NLT. Someone gave me a leather NLT for a gift, and I still have it somewhere around here.
Having read all of these versions/translations/paraphrases, whatever you want to call them, I have found precious little difference in the texts that would draw the meaning away from the Gospel message. I haven't seen any major differences that would somehow change the story, in any way at all really.
The only issue I've had with the KJV, as I still use it here and there, is with the people that push it as the only translation that should be used, with some even making threats about salvation if they simply choose or prefer a different translation. To this day, 13 years following Yeshua, I have never encountered anyone involved with Christianity or religion in general that were as militantly unlikeable as the KJV only crowd.
In any case, if I can find a full, free copy of the introduction section of the CJB, I'll share it here or on the community tab for the channel.
      Blessings and Shalom,
      Stephen

@@WhiteOak09 Using this angle, one could say that during the time of the prophets, no Jews believing because most listened to the false prophets and were not obedient. But a small remnant was faithful, repentant and believed. It is like that even now. God doesn't abandon His people, the Jews, and after reading all the promises in the Tanakh, I'm not sure how one could come to this conclusion.
Today what is happening in Isra'el is as He said would happen. The Jewish people were cast out from the land, and are now returning from all across the world, from every nation and people, they are coming home to Isra'el.
The land was desolate before they returned - though there were always Jews living in Isra'el - and now that Isra'el is growing, the land is thriving, things are growing, it's getting green and lush and beautiful. Hebrew was a dead language, and now millions of Jewish Israelis are speaking Hebrew once again. These are signs of God keeping His promises.
And today it is like it was before: there is a large religious Jewish population that is not faithful to Yeshua the Messiah, a large secular portion of people and ..... a strong minority, a believing remnant of Messianic Jews that believe in and follow Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah. Just like in the past: most would listen to the false prophets or not believe and a small remnant would be there, faithful. Today, the Messianic Jewish population is growing and more and more Jews are reading the New Testament. All this is cause for great rejoicing among us who trust in the Messiah Yeshua.
And we know from the Scriptures that the Messiah will only return when the people of Jerusalem call out "Baruch haba bshem Adonai!" Who are the people of Jerusalem? Jewish people.
There is an extremely ugly doctrine called Replacement Theology that is very popular in America. This belief says that after Yeshua was resurrected, the Jews no longer had any meaning or special place to God. This belief says that there is a split and after His resurrection, there was no more judaism, and Christianity was born. I believe this to be false, misleading and ugly in the worst way.
I'll include an article on Replacement Theology that I think really sums it up so much better than I can do on my own.
But to answer your question, do the Jews not believe in Jesus? Yes, they always did. They were the first to ever believe in Jesus. Jesus Himself and every single one of the very first Messianic believers were all Jewish people. All of them. And today, the Messianic Jewish population in Isra'el today is the faithful remnant.
      Blessings and Shalom,
      Stephen

Halleluyah, in the name of Yashua Mawsheeach. Is there a forum where someone like me can corroborate and discuss scripture? Hebrew and Greek. Nothing Old about the old testament and nothing new about the new testament. It has been, it is, and forever will be.

I've only had the Complete Jewish Study Bible for two days and I am totally enjoying it. CJB reads so smooth I often don't pause to read the footnotes at the bottom. Took me a couple of years to do it but I read straight through both volumes of the Perry Stone Hebraic Prophetic Study Bibles (Old & New) and learned so much in the process with the Hebrew roots of Christianity. The plan is to read straight through this Complete Jewish Study Bible also. These footnotes and other sections are great. Very well presented. I will learn even more this time through the journey of God's Word.
    Well done video brother!!!

Thank you for the compliment and the kind words brother :)
If you don't mind, can you tell me a bit more about the Perry Stone Hebraic Prophetic Study Bibles (Old & New)? I just began to read through the CJB in September and it will be my preferred translation.
I only just had read for the first time Dr. David Stern's Restoring the Jewishness of the Gospel and purchased our first CJB when I heard that he had passed away in Jerusalem.
His wife, Martha, had said that rabbis always said the righteous pass away in their own beds on Shabbat, and the most righteous pass away in their beds in between Yom Kippur and Sukkot. Brother David Stern did.
I really love the way this man thought and how he wrote. Having come from Atheist and then Fundamental Baptist background, I always saw the religious Christians and Messianics pulling people on way or the other, but I saw Dr. Stern as pulling with everything he had, for his entire life, ALL people TOGETHER for Yeshua the Messiah, but restoring everything so beautifully Jewish that had been stripped away.
Thanks for writing. I love this CJB, and when we arrive in New Yerushalayim, I want to embrace David and thank him in the presence of Adonai.
Many blessings, and Shalom to you,
      Stephen

@@steveandjanemessianics Perry Stone Hebraic Prophetic Study Bible is not a new translation like CJB, it's the King James Version but is extensive on the footnotes, WOW! Bible college in a box. Very well done in my opinion. I always take the time to read each footnote, that's why i am looking forward to going straight through the complete Jewish study Bible.
I myself have never read the Bible straight through until the Hebraic Prophetic Study Bible. Totally helps having the footnotes to guide you every few verses. It was a very enjoyable experience. Perry bundles both testaments together and has sales every now and then.

Good Day, I fully agree with your sentiments that the CJB is more legible in comparison to the age old KJV. It speaks to a modern-day people. I have recently transitioned from NKJV and NIV respectively to CJB. I have to admit that CJB brings more clarity to the text, and I even found it easier to memorize particular passages of scriptures in verbatim. I have started using the CJB for my small bible study group and I have also noticed that it compliments my formal writing style when I write mini sermons/teachings. The inclusion of Hebrew words namely Torah, b'rit milah, among others, as well as author names such as Yochanan, Sha'ul, Mattityahu is really helpful in introducing the reader to the Historical Jewish roots of the Bible.

This CJB actually brings us closer to the Word, closer to understanding His people! and I love it. The Word made flesh was a Jew and all the apostles also. We should strive to understand them because we have to provoke them in these last days into jealousy (into humility), we should be an example to the Jews as they become closer to Yeshua, it will be us, the gentiles, the people grafted into the commonwealth of Israel that set them alight with Yah,s Messianic fire.
The amazing KJB is a literal and accurate translation into English but brethren we need to know about the ancient Hebrew Word to ensure were grafted in correctly and not getting pruned .

What theologians hated the jews and the god of Israel? Are you saying some translated bibles are blatantly anti-Semitic? As someone raised to believe in Jesus as the Messiah but not "religious" (not church going or follower of any particular faith), I'm just now finding the spirit to pursue scriptures as I've never done. I picked the CJB because of its closeness to the original Hebrew and Greek. Having read thoroughly through the Torah and now into 2 Kings, I can't understand how anyone "Christian" could possibly hate the Jews if they are followers of Yesuha/Jesus. For me, my experience of the Bible makes me want to follow the laws and traditions as closely as possible. I don't understand how Christians wouldn't actually become more like Messianic Jews, rather than "Christians". Other than the fact that it was certainly Jewish leaders who wanted Yesuha/Jesus put to death, with the resurrection, we are all forgiven and should have understanding and compassion for their error, not hatred. I suppose "Christians" who potentially hated Jews and the god of Israel as you said, they are too potentially just like the Jewish leaders who wanted Yesuha/Jesus put to death. I have a number of other versions of the bible but never found any gripping me. However, now that I am so serious about taking the bible seriously as never before, this bible, the CJB is by far my choice. Wishing I could find a Messianic Jewish community near-by in my small WV town. Who knows, maybe more and more "Christians" will start to appreciate the profound lineage of Yesuha and how the original followers of Yesuha/Jesus were all Jews! I can't imagine anyone more appreciative of the realization that "Jesus" is "Yesuha", their messiah than of course the Jews themselves. And who should be more supportive of that too, besides other Jews, but Christians.

Thank you for your review, actuallly is the Complete Jewish bible not such a Jewish bible, e.g. Marc 15:28, Mat 12:47 Acts 8:37 are missing. Compared with the KJV a lot of important words are missing. Also is this missing from 1John 5:7 "in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one" A lot of messianic believers don't belief in the Trinity and the Deity of Yeshua anymore
One example about weakening the Deity of Yeshua: CJB 1Tim 3: 16 He was manifested physically
The KJV 1Tim 3: 16 God was manifest in the flesh,
I have seen many people lose their faith in Yeshua, I am very grateful to God for keeping my faith in His Son Yeshua (amazing GRACE) My CJB disappeared into the recycle bin, the proper place for this bible. I am almost 25 years active in the Messianic movement and was for 15 years an elder in Beth Yeshua Amsterdam.

This is a great review and the ease of understanding is quite startling. CJB is definitely one for the "to get" list.
Just one minor point from an English viewer, KJV English is not old English relatively speaking, simply because modern speakers can still mostly understand it, even if it is a bit laden with Thees and Thous and is not a translation I use because the language has moved on. However, the mediaeval period would not have spoken anything recognizable as "English". It would have mostly likely been a mix of Norman French (middle and ruling classes) and whatever was left of Saxon & Old Norse (lower classes).

Hi! Not sure who "y'all" is referring to but I'm guessing it just means anyone who believes and follows Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus).
Yes, Jesus is really just the transliteration of the name Yeshua, or Yehoshua. Basically the Romans took His name Yeshua and spelled out how it sounded to them, giving them the word you shared, which probably sounded like yay-zua or something like that.
The original, real Hebrew name of the Messiah Jesus is Yeshua. The Hebrew word Yeshua is the same word for "salvation." Thus, the songs about "salvation" being His name. Salvation is His name by Joshua Aaron is one of my favorites.
Thanks for chiming in about this. Most people don't know that Yeshua (what His mama called Him, my wife likes to say) is also the Hebrew word for salvation. There are quite a few reasons for this and of course much significance, all of which matter, or should matter, to people who call themselves Christians or Messianic believers.
      Blessings, and Shalom,
      Stephen

Joshua was an inaccurate Greek to English translation. Look up how "Joshua" came to be from Greek to English. That does not change facts. Just like in the book of Revelations, the symbolic colors given are translated in English to "White, red, black, and "pale", but the truth is, the original Greek word was Chloros. The actual translation of it, even used as such in a prior verse, it means "green" or sometimes "pale green", not "pale", but it has been used to describe "green" grass....it still means green in Revelations as a prophetic warning. Those colors are believed to also be warnings, or significant meaning in end times; green, red, black, white".....interesting food for thought. On another note, I find flags, looking at their colors, sometimes educational and interesting.

Amen, this is true. But I would say "His mother" called Him Yeshua. It wasn't until around the 13th century that anyone even in Europe called Him "Jesus." It probably sounded a lot like "yay-zoo" or "ye-zua" something like that, as the recorded Greek name of Jesus is really just the phonetic transliteration of His name Yeshua, which is the Hebrew word for salvation.
I don't correct anyone when they use the name Jesus or make a conflict over it. But I do use his correct name. Kind of like if you knew a Spanish person named Juan who just went by John around his American friends. But one day his family comes and they call him Juan. We wouldn't give them a hard time and wouldn't correct them. That would just be odd and weird. Wouldn't make sense. People who knew him by John, many would likely call him Juan after this experience.

Either did mine. We read the KJV as IFB Christians though we no longer associate with that very unique, truly odd denomination.
My point with this video is to share information about the Complete Jewish Bible, which is a far better translation and a much easier read for everyone.
It even says in the intro to the KJV that the purpose of the translation was to update it to make a more easily understandable version of the scriptures for people to read. It was an update of a previous translation for this exact purpose. Obviously it is 400 years later and even aside from the CJB (or TLV or The Scriptures all three of which are our primary translations) there are many much better translations that the KJV.
All that said, I still reference KJV to see the differences and mostly to get a better understanding of how the scriptures were twisted against the Jews and their meaning changed (Roman Catholics and many Protestants sadly have done this for majority of their history). If this wasn't the case, the Holocaust wouldn't have happened and either would most of their persecution at the hands of the Roman Catholics. The church of Constantinople wouldn't have forced Messianic Jewish believers to recite oaths forsaking their heritage and Jewishness before bizarrely then and only then being welcomed as full Christians.
      Blessings and Shalom,
Check out the CJB, as it is a much better and more understandable bible than the KJV. No need to read scriptures that sound like a medieval English knight. :)

    • @steveandjanemessianics
      @steveandjanemessianics  5 місяців тому +2

It's not wrong at all, and is a great translation. I put that in my title for fun.
But it is an outdated translation, this is for sure. It was made at the time (some 400 + years ago) with the purpose of giving the common people a bible that is easily understandable and readable. This was true then but not today. Most people don't read or speak English like a medieval English knight. I'm sure anyone would objectively agree with that. One would have to be willfully delusional to say "No, I actually PREFER to speak like an Englishman from the 1500s! I read and write everything just like this! It just makes the most sense." No way.
There are many translations in my opinion that better serve the body of believers in America and other English speaking countries. Many.
All that said, the very worst - the very worst - experiences we've had with heartless, hard Christians were at Independent Fundamental Baptist, KJV only churches. Usually led by one super insecure, incredibly controlling, tough talking family with the guys in Walmart suits and the women all seen but not heard, no pants allowed, that type of thing. Basically the opposite of what Yeshua taught. There is usually a a healthy - or unhealthy really - dose of low key antisemitic undertones in some teaching and sermons.
Our old pastor would always say from the pulpit that the Jews were "God's chosen people," yet when preaching would at times preach all out, full on, clear as day Replacement Theology. Think "the Jews are canceled, law is nailed to the cross, unbelieving Jews are synagogue of Satan, etc." This type of ignorance.
So, to answer your question, the KJV is not wrong. It's not bad. It's a great translation for the time and great to cross check and use to reference verses. This is what I use it for. It was an update in a long, long line of updates. Updates that kept on coming well after the 1500s.
Above all else, it is that we know the story and believe and trust in Yeshua the Messiah.
All the best. Blessings and Shalom,
      Stephen

I started with the KJV when I came to faith in 2010, and have more than one lying around. If people prefer that, that is their right. If people prefer to read the Gospels in 400 year old English, I encourage them to. The important thing is to read, to believe and to trust. In my own case, I prefer the CJB and a few select others over the KJV.
All that said, thank you for interacting with my video.

The difference? One reads like a medieval English knight, with purposeful mistranslations and obscuring of the truth and the other is an excellent, modern translation/paraphrase that highlights the (what should be) obvious Jewishness of the Scriptures, especially the New Testament.
Getting the Complete Jewish Study Bible is an awesome start, but I recommend the late Dr. David Stern's great little book Restoring the Jewishness of the Gospel. This book shows the historical path of the "church," how the Jewish heart of the faith was slowly cut out and eradicated from our very Jewish faith, which rests in the Messiah of Isra'el, Yeshua. This little book costs like $7 on most Christian book sites and to me is top shelf for anyone that has faith in Jesus (Yeshua) that is from the Baptist, Evangelical, Christian backgrounds).

The children in our church read on a college reading level, yet they are all brought up to read from the KJV. They memorize the Scripture in the KJV. Children do not need an updated version to understand the word.
As for that modern critical text that you use, it comes from codex Sinaiaticus and Vaticanus. These are full of pseudepigrapha. The modern critical text can not be trusted!
I am not KJVO, but I am KJV 1st. The Byzantine text tradition has proven itself to be trustworthy. Not like your interpretation of the name of Jesus. Jesus is from the Greek Ιησους. The NT was written in Greek. Yeshuha is his name (in Hebrew). Your interpretation is severely warped. Read the book of Hebrews and pray for wisdom. You are the only one bound my friend. I have studied the Scriptures for 34 years. I have one English translation. There is no confusion in my house. We know where the word of God is. Return to the translation that will never change.

    • @Pastor-Brettbyfaith

I spent many years in the modern critical text. All it brought was confusion. The NASB has 12 revisions. When will the modern critical text of Scripture be complete? I have a few copies of your Jewish text. It is full of holes, missing so much of the inspired text. But your mind has been conditioned to believe that the KJV is old and outdated. If it were a matter of simply updating the language, I would have no problem with it, but the modern English translations go too far, by removing whole texts and then translating the corrupted text into English. Go back to your KJV and be a Christian. The Bible calls us Christian. Not Messianic Jews or Baptist, Lutheran, Episcopalian, Pentecostal...not Calvinists or Reformed. We are Christians = of Christ or from Christ. I am from Buffalo, so I am called a Buffalonian. I am not here to exalt any name but Jesus. Jesus died for us. Jesus rose from that grave. He is the Χριστος= Christ= Meshiach. Knowing that the New Covenant was written in Greek, I shall worship the title of Christ and the name above every name. Yes, the name of Jesus.

That's great that the children in your church can read at such a high level. That certainly is not true for the vast majority of kids in this country (USA). That sounds highly unusual but very cool to hear. Our homeschool kids can read the KJV too, but why? Especially why when there are much more modern, readable, more easily understood translations, like the CJB.
I especially love the CJB because it brings it back to it's Jewish roots, and when we read it we see that Yeshua isn't like an American Chuck Norris Jesus, which is what I've seen in our old IFB church and other fundamental, old school, 1950s type churches like it. Our faith is very much a Jewish faith, one that we are adopted into and welcomed into. For this, especially as a former Atheist, I am so grateful.
Since you recommended reading Messianic Jews (Hebrews) - which was weird because that is a book with several chapters, none of which have anything to do with bible translation or anything in this video - please accept my recommendation to read the great little book Restoring the Jewishness of the Gospel by Dr. David Stern.
It's a little book and a quick read, especially if you are a reader. It is top shelf for anyone KJV only or that is stuck in the old "We're not under the law; we're under grace" trap or worse, the ones who say "the law was NAILED to the cross!" I bought a bunch of these and hand them out to Fundamental Baptists and other super insular type denominations. The Jews weren't canceled and Yeshua didn't wash off His Jewishness in the Jordan River. There is more to the story than what we got from the Roman Catholics and super racist, violent antisemites like Luther. Check out the little book. It's like $10 on most sites.
All that said, I appreciate the encouragement to read the KJV, but I must politely decline. I have my CJB and I trust Dr. David Stern, who passed away last year in Jerusalem. There is no difference in this translation that takes away from faith in Yeshua the Messiah. If anything, it makes it so much more personal, deeper and it reads much more as it should. As in, not like a medieval English knight.
Thanks again for your comment, and for interacting with my video. I highly recommend the Complete Jewish Study Bible, translated by Dr. David Stern (with much assistance from many other very faithful, scholarly individuals). I also highly recommend the great little book Restoring the Jewishness of the Gospel, also by Dr. David Stern.
      Blessings, and Shalom,
      Stephen

I'm sorry, but we'll have to just agree to disagree. I read Dr. Stern's work on his translation and I stand by it over the KJV any day of the week. Not only that, but I have to say the people I have met since leaving Atheism that are Messianic Jews or people that hold fast and honor the Jewish roots of our faith have been much kinder, much more "Christ-like" people than anyone involved with IFB churches, KJV only churches or some of the other more cultish denominations.
As for Messianic Jews vs Christians, the first believers were all Jews. They were Messianic Jews. Hebrews was written to Messianic Jews who were bringing the Gospel message to Gentiles. And what did the Gentiles do with this Gospel message for the next 1900 years?
They killed every Jew they could find, cut apart Gentiles and Messianic Jews and now we have what we have in the west now. Which though it contains an individual Gospel message, it is radically different than what Yeshua intended and taught.
You can say Jesus if you want. There is no real meaning in that name - definitely not like His real name that He went by when He walked on earth which is Yeshua - but many use it and there is no problem with that. Some say Jesus Cristo, some have other translations. All are just fine and criticism for that is unnecessary.
As for the CJB being full of holes, I've been reading it for over one year and I understand what it is telling me 100 times better than the KJV. Everyone else we know that has made the change agrees. You're welcome not to. It makes no difference to me.
Thanks again for your comment and for interacting with my video.
Check out the little book Restoring the Jewishness of the Gospel. That was the first step for us in leaving traditional, Baptist, Roman Catholic inspired religion and take our first steps as Messianic Jews, or as some say completed Jews.
      Wishing you the best,
      Stephen

I've got something that will blow your mind: The word "Christian" is not in the Bible, it was put there by the Roman Catholic Church who were trying very hard to distance themselves from anything Jewish. Here's another: Yeshua, his disciples, and Paul were all JEWS. And they never created a new religion called Christianity for the Gentiles. That concept is nowhere in the Bible. I mean why would God spend 4,000+ years teaching everything "Jewish" and then throw it all away and create a new religion that is not named or described anywhere in the NT? It's just absurd! If you can find anywhere in the Bible (original writings) that says we are to become a Christian and outlines clearly how to do that, please let me know. I think one of the greatest evils the devil ever pulled was to lead billions of people away from Truth through the Replacement Theology. It actually makes me sick to my stomach after hearing it for 40 years. I'm trying to undo the lies and deceit by actually reading my Bible. As a final note: God never intended anyone to be named by a religion. It's always been about relationship. So, everyone needs to quit being a "religion" and just do what the Bible says, which leads us to an intimate relationship with God. We, Gentiles, who are saved, will be spending eternity in the New Heaven on the New Earth with Jews, serving and worshipping the Jewish God (Adonai), in a Jewish heaven (as described in Revelation), doing very Jewish things. We'd better get used to it here and now. Eternity is a long time.

Christianos is in the NT 3 times. Since Christ is our absolute truth, we are called a Christian. From Christ! You spent all that time and effort on Catholicism, but I have nothing to do with Roman Catholicism. The Roman Catholic Church is trying desperately to unite the church under the ecumenical movement. I hate the RCC! It is a man made, satanically inspired tool of division. In fact, RC created all the division that you see in the church. I stand against any form of Roman Catholicism. I am a Bible believing, preaching, born again child of the living God. There is no other way to get to God except thru faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross.
Your references to the RC Church are of no concern to me. The KJV is the word of God, in English. There is no need for an update!
