44:05 there’s something so heart-wrenching about how Greez, even while he’s mourning Cere, still wants to make sure Cal doesn’t start blaming himself for her death. I swear Greez has the biggest heart of anyone in this game 😭😭😭
Also, the fact that Cere was SO close… Like, of course we knew she wouldn’t kill Vader, but for her to come so close and fall at the final hurdle is even more heartbreaking. She went out like an absolute champion.

The “morality” is supposed to be that Cal only strikes down those who are fighting back. The “Jedi Way” is that those who cannot defend themselves, those unarmed, should not be killed. Like when Anakin disarmed (literally) Dooku. He was supposed to let him live because he was no longer a threat. Anyone who has the potential to fight back (in that exact moment) can be killed ethically according to the Jedi code.

@epic-fictionalprojects4394 Bode had to be put down. You missed the point of his character arc. Towards the end he was being more and more consumed by the dark side, to the point that he started to attack his daughter and the range of the attacks just got increasingly worse overtime. They gave him many chances to give up but it was clear that no matter what they did, Bode wasn't going to stop.

That's what Merrin did there for Cal. Denvik was dead anyways, he said it himself, if it wasn't Cal, it would be Vader so letting him alive wasn't changing anything in the outcome but it saved Cal from going down the dark side

    2. When Cal was using the Force to hold Denvik at 1:27:79 , he had already disarmed him. Denvik was helpess.
    3. Jedi only kill armed hostiles. Any exception to that rule goes against their way, They draw the line at killing anyone who is helpless, or killing anyone for petty and selfish motives like revenge.
    4. Cal has been slowly losing his way throughout the game. This is the first time that Merrin has seen it.

Cal and merrins relationship just shows how powerful bonds of love can be, kind of like how Revan and bastila were in kotor, and in a sense it’s a reverse of that situation,
Revan saves bastila from the dark side by using the love he has for her.
Merrin saves cal from losing himself to the darkness with the love she has for him
They have shared the same trauma with the looses of there families and friends they understand each others pain, both have saved each other from there darkness and that’s all because of that love they share
It just goes to show how wrong the Jedi were in a lot of the teachings, even cal sees that. the force responds to emotions so in theory, if the darkness can be channel with hatred and rage, who’s to say that the light cannot be channeled with love and happiness. All that is really need to do is just control those emotions but still allow them to flow freely through.
Perhaps this will be the start of that order with cal as the first Jedi with the help of his love merrin they may start a new Jedi order that closely resembles the Jedi order that Luke had in legend which were much more powerful

1:19:32 Fun fact: When Dark mode is activated most force powers become a lot more powerful, for example in this instance if you were to press these troops into the ground using R1 & X it would instantly kill them. Also as a secret power if you were to pull any droid below Dark Trooper weight & then press Square while it's in your grasp it activates Force Crush, a Dark side power that in KotOR 2 was exclusive to the Sith Lord bonus class. So yeah... Darth Kestis.

Nice to see your reaction to this! I was also upset at Bode but at the same time I can see his side. I get the feeling that he was initially okay if it was with just him, Kata, Cal, Merrin, and the rest of the crew going to Tanalorr but once the Hidden Path was brought up, it drove him to just take himself and Kata.
The problem with bringing the Hidden Path is that you don’t know them, how many of them will eventually become bad apples that would expose the location of the planet or cause some sort of trouble. Also if you’re constantly bringing people over to help them hide from the empire, you’ll eventually get found out.
If you take the selfish path, get small party of trusted people with you that are like family and just jump in there and live your lives, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about and you can probably live happily ever after and die of old age without ever hearing about the empire again. Of course that wouldn’t make the plot interesting but that’s what I would do if this was irl stuff.

The thing is that Bode was right, from a tactical standpoint. When you start gathering large amounts of Force-sensitive refugees somewhere, the planet develops a unique signature in the Force that Vader and the Emperor would sense. That's aside from the military parts of this you mentioned regarding the logistics of funneling people there. The fact that the Jedi scattered actually improved their odds of survival. Yes, alone IF they were found, they'd stand no chance, but alone their chances of hiding successfully were better. Keeping the group of survivors on Tanalorr limited in numbers was actually the smarter play.

I also want to state that people were willing to forgive Joel Miller for doing something VERY similar to what Bode Akuna did. Just...Joel was the protagonist, Bode was not. There is the argument that Joel wasn't close to Marlene, and the betrayal there went both ways, while Bode did profess a close friendship with Cal (he called him brother several times). Personal betrayal always hurts worse. Though Marlene did NOT give the Joel or Ellie a chance to say goodbye, OR have a say in the decision, while Cal DID give Bode a few opportunities to stand down and try to reason with him.

It's like love and romance in a video game are taboo for some reason 🙄
A lot of the "build-up" could be inferred/implied from their conversations together. The fact that both of them were one of the last survivors of their kind. The fact that Cal redeemed Merrin from a dark path. Merrin embracing Cal after their mission on Nur. The unwritten journeys they had together after FO. Merrin saying that Cal was never far from her thoughts during her travels.
How much "build-up" is needed, really, for it to be considered enough? Adversity and common experiences can accelerate relationships faster than we think. Cal and Merrin had 5 years to realise what they really want from one another.

I agree. And this doesn't just apply to fictional works such as movies, video games, or books. I, personally, can confirm that it's possible in real life. My now fiancée and I met a little less than 2 years ago through a mutual friend, began dating about a year ago and realized we had a ton in common. Then, we went through some very dramatic times in both our lives where we were each other's rock. That's when we realized we were definitely feeling something more. I proposed a couple of weeks ago and she said yes. So, people who say that a couple must be together for a set amount of time before it's "real" or "true love" don't have a clue.

Within the span of an hour I went from overwhelming joy with Cal and Merrin to wiping away tears after Cere’s death. This is without question one of the most painful and destructive betrayals in all of Star Wars history. As soon as Bode brought up the idea that maybe he and the crew go to Tanalorr alone first I knew something was up. Because that sounded like he was racing against a clock. And while I understand that he did everything for his daughter, it’s still unforgivable what he did to Cordova.
This is *almost* worse than what Joel did at the end of The Last Of Us.
As for Cere, I absolutely loved playing as her. And I freaking cried my eyes out at her death scene. I like Cal didn’t know how I felt about Cere until the end of Fallen Order, but now after finishing Survivor Cere Junda is one of my all time favorite Jedi! Her fight scene with Darth Vader was both one of the greatest boss fights I have ever seen in my life and one of the most emotionally powerful duels in all of Star Wars.

that is something i have always hated in media, the minions can will and do die by the trillions but the ones in charge get to live, to "pay" it's the thing that ticked me off most about like arrow season 1 especially. kill if you must, don't if you have the option, but don't pick and choose.

The reason it was permissible to kill so many people in combat it because they were trying to kill you at the same time. You were using lethal force, yes, but you were protecting yourself.
Conversely, the reason you couldn't kill the inquisitor it because it would not of been a killing so much as an execution. He was a helpless enemy, that would have only died because you chose to kill him. Making it more an act of vengeance or revenge which is not the Jedi way

It’s crazy looking back seeing how obvious it was that bode was stronger than he said. He was able to at least somewhat keep up with a Jedi turned sith of the high republic. He literally dodged a lightsaber being thrown at him in a way that could only be down by having the force.

Fun fact: Jedi: Survivor isn't the first Star Wars media Jedha made an appearance in. That was in Rogue One. But, chronologically, Survivor is the first.

  • @christiancalderas5198

I feel like one of reasons the romance feels off is because of the book that was released called Jedi: Battle Scars. It takes place after the events of Fallen Order, and I believe it is responsible for setting up the events of Jedi: Survivor. Supposedly, it explores Cal and Merrin's relationship.
In my opinion, I don't think that was a good idea. They should've left the story unfold only throughout the games because finishing Fallen Order and continuing with Jedi: Survivor, it feels like you are missing a good portion of the plot.
    Example:
    - Merrin joins the mantis crew at the end of the game in Fallen Order; Merrin meets up with Cal almost halfway through the game in Jedi: Survivor.
    - At the end of Fallen Order, Cal says to his crew "So, where to now?"; Starting Jedi: Survivor, Cal has a new crew.

    • @thedarkstarr11
      @thedarkstarr11 Рік тому

To be fair, Han and Leia's relationship moved fairly fast too. Fallen Order set up the ship tease, Battle Scars helped, but was unnecessary for the relationship to progress. In the end, it comes down to personal preference. Not everyone was for it. I was. I thought it was built up well enough...this is a game, not five seasons of Rebels, so I wasn't expecting a lot...and it was CERTAINLY less cringe worthy than what Anakin and Padme went through (I liked the relationship...NOT how Lucas directed it, because both actors are actually really good at what they do and I felt that he felt his vision was the only way to go about it, which meant NOT trusting two good actors to sell the scene like they were able). Still, nothing says you have to like the relationship. I think it served the character arc, and the story well. If there is a sequel though, I figure Cal and Merrin will have a child...and he'll end up like MOST of the other Jedi...y'know, killed off in a heroic sacrifice or something. Then ten years down the line, we'll get a Disney Plus series about their kid.

      @youknowwhoiam2771 Рік тому +4

Seemed pretty damn obvious the route their relationship would take in the first game the moment Cal gave her the Astrium on Dathomir and their hands lingered awkwardly. You could tell they liked each other when they started talking. Both of them were survivors who found a kindred spirit. It’s a matter of opinion but sometimes less is more

He killed hundreds of people *actively attacking* him. The ISB agent in that moment had been disarmed and was no longer an active threat. That's the difference. Jedi don't strike down in anger and hate. Strangling that guy to death after he had already been disarmed would have absolutely qualified.

"Where do we draw the line?" When you start taking lives for no other reason than pure hatred. Denvik was beaten, unarmed, he was no longer a threat. It wasn't self-defense anymore, Cal just wanted him dead purely for revenge. Merrin could see he was giving in to the darkness and stopped him before it was too late. Once he's embraced that path, there's no going back.

Jedi cant cut someone down in anger or revenge. Also, Jedi cant harm the defenseless. If Cal had simply deflected those bolts back at Denvik, it would've been fine, but he had disarmed him making him defenseless.

Is the line really weirdly drawn for morality? Seems really obvious. You kill in self defense, but never as an indulgence. He took that captain guy down, that was it, there was no need to kill him, especially painfully. The jedi way is fight to protect others and yourself, but never harm if you dont need to, at least as someone whos never seen any of the movies thats what it feels like it is.
