I see Nami stealing from the villagers as her way of reassuring the villagers that she can handle herself in the face of the dangers she will experience as a pirate. It takes mad skills to do what Nami did and she wanted to show off her 8 years of effort in fighting for the village. That and she is still a bit of a troublemaker. She doesn't actually want to hurt them though which is why she left them money enough to buy the village.
I’m glad you like the arc enough to give 9.9/10, OP fans always recommend to watch/read up to this arc and it’s the break it or make it arc. and many new anime watcher/starting to watch OP are so used to the new gen shounen, that are fast paced, that they find early OP boring. Although I agree that OP is a slow starter even compared to Bleach and Naruto, but starting from now it’s an uphill in storytelling and worldbuilding and especially in backstories
So there is a lot to say about this arc, a lot of it people have already said. To me one of main takeaways is that this introduces viewers to the potential of the the story telling in the series and sets the tone for arguably the main overarching theme of one piece which is a struggle for freedom. As the world opens up the stakes get higher and the crew face bigger and tougher challenges. One piece will tie seemingly finished story arcs into newer ones in the most unexpected ways giving them even more depth so look forward to being surprised.
I’m glad Arlong Park has gotten you to join the crew, welcome aboard! The villagers did help by covering up Nojiko and Gen’s efforts to save Luffy and bring him back into the fight, and Nami and the villagers stalled Arlong for the crucial moments that allowed Luffy to return to the fight in time to save everyone. Moreover, a big theme of this arc was the importance of asking for help and relying on others, so I think it was fine for Nami to just more or less leave everything in Luffy’s hands after she finally accepted his help. I think Isaiah and others in the comments gave good responses already to Ian’s criticism about Nami’s thievery, but I’d like to remind everyone of how one of the first things that Nami was shown doing in her backstory was stealing a book.
There is a Movie/Epecial called Episode of Nami: Tears of a Navigator and the Bonds of Friends, it is retelling of this arc, with modern animation (it was made on 2012). Maybe you could watch the movie and discuss if is worth it or not as a replacement for the anime chapters.
The death doesn't talk. This is actually quite spiritual in some religion tho. I bet Oda just took it from Japanese folks or something but in Islam. We were told that if you dream about someone you love, they must never talk. Bcs if they talk that wasn't them but the devil. But if they did not talk, that must be really them. I did dream about my parent who passed away and i remember when i try to talk to them they didn't answer me. They have expression not like creepy-death kind of face.. they look really alive and well but did not talk a single words. I like how Oda make that scene like that.
Well i like to think she want the wallets as furniture. i don't know but i think someone ask about it to Oda too in SBS. But i think she just want to keep their wallet as remind her that they are her people that she care of. The same as why she took the orchid trees from Bellemere's backyard.
I told you guys this arc is what make me in love with One Piece and I love all of the straw hats but this arc too make Nami is my favorite straw hat ❤️
19:38 let this be an example. Everything Oda writes, has a purpose.
Johnny and Yosaku were homies! As soon as they heard Nami's backstory they challenged Arlong even tho they knew they were outmatched.

In thought she just wanted to keep something with her from the people of the village. Maybe sth to remember them by.

True! Even this arc has more to it than meets the eye

"Setting out with a Smile", what a fitting title to be released with the news today
Its really master class writing from Oda. He proves it one arc after the other.

AoA: What's that guy doing?
Me: Omg... is that who the crew learned it from!?

It would be really nice if you could do a character tier list for what you’ve watched of One Piece before your hiatus.
I just wanna remind you guys what ya'll were saying about Nami just an arc ago.
We definitely have had a change of heart.
You are going love when Nami gets a Bounty when they show Gen-San again it a little funny
Really good ark. So many details
I told you guys this arc is what make me in love with One Piece and I love all of the straw hats but this arc too make Nami is my favorite straw hat ❤️
theres no side character in one piece and that makes one piece GOATED.
That is actually an interesting way of looking at it!
one piece is a slow burn. it's generally uphill from here.
gOda writings
