Bounty is basically telling the whole world your status as a pirate, the higher bounty you have the higher status you’ll get, especially for someone trying to be the Pirate King

that’s why post arcs are one of the most anticipated moments in OP, a lot of worldbuilding

I love your discussions at the end of each episode!
I agree that One Piece is a slooow burn and that’s just how it is. Oda doesn’t try to hook you, he takes his time with setting up his pieces and I’m pretty sure most fans are here for the payoffs because they are usually worth it.
Also the first 50 chapters of the manga are considered to be the prologue.

33:55 As you said, _that_ might be due to the short attention span people have nowadays.
When I got into One Piece 6 years ago, I spent two weeks of my life with it.
    Eat, Sleep, Breathe, One Piece.
And I do not regret it one bit.
It was probably one of the last times that I loved absolutely getting lost in a series and it's lore.
But at the same time, I can understand people with serious responsibilities findi it hard to get into it _that_ way.

When I got into One Piece it was over a spring break where I also ate (literally while watching or reading), slept (well I didn’t do much of that), and breathed One Piece for two weeks.

    CONTEXT TIME:
Hawkeye Mihawk is a member of the seven warlords of the sea, a group of powerful pirates that pay the government a percentage of their treasure and the government allows them to exist, the purpose of this is to keep small time pirates in check out of fear and to give stronger pirates a chance to exist without fearing the law.
most pirates think the warlords are just government dogs but you don't get to be a warlord without being incredibly powerful, you've also been told about a guy named Jimbei a fishman warlord so five unamed warlords to go

The next arc is indeed the "true start" to one piece. Or more accurately, it is the end of the beginning. Everything up until now has basically been a prologue to the larger story. The prologue, ending with Loguetown, is your introduction to the main characters.
When it comes to the pacing, the One piece anime is based on the manga. Because of that, the anime generally speaking is slower than intended by the original author.

Bounties in one piece is like rankings in tower of god…..
The strongest people have the craziest and highest bounties and will be a navy top priority…..
There are other factors that play a role in bounty but you will learn that….

24:21 Seven Warlords of the Sea. a.k.a *Shichibukai*
They are a selection of seven powerful and notorious pirates allied to the World Government. Collectively, they constitute one of the Three Great Powers that keep the world in balance.
The purpose of the Seven Warlords is to have the allied pirates deal with other pirates. They are also a great symbol of the government’s strength. In return for their alliance with the World Government, every member's bounty is frozen and they have significantly more leeway to commit crimes.

They released an OVA that tells the origin of the main characters with a new animation, but it also skips through many characters and explanations you need to know later. But it's worth watching for some of the modernized animation.

    01:36 True Sigma
    06:52 Goodbye, Capt. Kuro
    12:29 I love this moment 🤣
    13:53 Roranoa "Chadicus" Zoro
18:26 I want you to remember and regret that.

All of them want the one piece not only because it’s a treasure from Gold roger and bc they think it’s a lot of riches but it’s more about the title of being the king of the pirates once they find the one piece.

Yeah it's like going down in history as the one who found it.
Also because the King of Pirates is virtually untouchable, so people desire the power and the influence

Lot's of great questions asked about Gold Roger and the One Piece.

I honestly think the slog in these early episodes is due more to the pacing of the adaptation rather than the structure itself. While I think its still a problem the anime adaptation struggles with even now, these early episodes in particular feel really dragged out.

A bounty’s price is how much you are a threat to the government.

Dracule Mihawk is Part of "The Seven Warlords of the Sea"
Shanks is in a higher ranked grouped than the warlords

yeah that’s the reason new anime watcher can’t get into OP, it is a slow starter but let’s just say Oda had his sight way into the future and wasn’t “bothered” by the “slowness” of this first saga. Once you get to those moment you’ll realise really how much in the future he was looking into

  • @maryisdoingvideos
    @maryisdoingvideos 3 роки тому +5

Guys, they say the name "Gold Roger" every time in the opening, I guess you're skipping it haha xD
I agree that the recaps are fun but I do think you gotta experience the anime as it is. The recaps are, well, a recap, everything moves too fast and you don't have time to really feel the characters. Also if you watch them and then come to the anime you will be frustrated with the different pacing in my opinion, and the dragging is a nice filter for people to see if they like it or not.
The group Hawkeye is part of is the Shichibukai or 7 Warlords of the Sea. They're really important so you'll get to know more about them later.
I get why you say that we live in a fast pace world and anime should really hook up they're viewers early on. But I disagree xD Slow pace can get you things fast pace can't. One Piece is not for everyone and that's fine, and it wouldn't work as well as it does with a faster pace.

    • @californiapenguin9434
      @californiapenguin9434 3 роки тому

I totally disagree about the pacing. The anime slows down the pacing of the manga so much with all of its padding.

Think of a bounty in this being somewhat related to say a power level in Dragonball. It kind of gives the world a relative idea of how strong the navy things someone is and thus how dangerous they are. You aren't going to be someone as famous as the "King of the Pirates" without having a bounty and likely higher than anyone else's. This isn't to say any bounty is accurate to strength at any one point as they are very subjective.

  • @Yal_Rathol

a lot of your complaints about the pacing are due to the anime adaptation. the manga moves a hell of a lot faster, and someone has actually gone through and edited some of the anime so it follows the manga's pacing. it's a fan-made project called "one piece kai", not sure how far it's gotten, so be careful about spoilers if you look it up.

For ppl who start OP now I'd recommend watching the recap episodes on the first couple arcs at least. Baratie and expecially Arlong Park should be watched in it's entirety imo but the episodes before could surely be more condensed. OP is an old anime and the beginning of it is just really slow for today's standard and I think it'd bump out many new watchers if they get told they need to watch until episode 20+ or 30+ to get really hooked and one might then be inclined to question if it's even worth commiting to a show that has 1000+ episodes (Which it is of course. OP is a slowburn compared to newer shows these days but my god is it worth the ride.) I was fine with it back then but that's because I was 8 so I had a lot of free time at hand and didn't think too much about it. Nowadays, it surely would be boring for some folks.
