  • Join me on a spring photography adventure as I search for migrating birds. Along the way, I discover an adorable raccoon in the treetops, a curious coyote in the fields, and the eastern screech owl still in its winter tree cavity.
    My visit was brief, but I still managed to swing by the boardwalk and met some awesome photographers there! It didn't make the video, but I just wanted to shout out the friendly community there!

    It would be nice if you put the name of the bird on screen.

      Good suggestion! I stopped doing it over the winter because I wasn’t find a very large variety of birds. Thanks for commenting!

    This is my first spring birding. I have not seen a single chickadee though the Merlin app heard one briefly in nyc

      It can be tough at first, keep exploring, get to know your area and you’ll be seeing more birds in no time!

    Nice video ! How did you manage to sync the bee's sound so accurately with its movement ? Well done ! I've been watching your videos since the "how to get closer'' one and I always enjoy seeing you in my youtube homepage :-)

      I grabbed a few bee-buzzing sounds from a royalty-free site and lined them up the best I could. I layered the sounds over each other and made the buzzing fade in and out where I thought it made sense. For an extra touch of detail, I even muffled the buzzing as it entered the tree cavity or flew behind.
      It was honestly so fun to work on. I'm really glad you noticed and commented on it! Thanks for sticking around for so long. Your support means a lot!

    The effort you put into these is just amazing, I gotta say. I find myself geeking out over the editing so much with your vids haha. Great encounters and shots! I really like the mix between common species like the chickadees (which I don't have here) and the rare ones. Did you notice that bigger bird flying past in the background at 2:33 to the left of your arm?

      Hey Adrian, I greatly appreciate the support as always! The tricky thing about those bigger birds in the sky is, they’re usually either a crow, or a vulture, which can both be really cool! I usually ignore them though, simply because the photo against the harsh sky wouldn’t turn out so great.
      On another note, maybe I should have left this in the video, I saw two egrets fly over the field when I was out there! The photos I captured were so terrible, but I was incredibly excited haha!

    I discovered your channel and really enjoy your content! Amazing job in presenting your journey with nature. Off topic, with the increase in tic infestation in Ontario, how do you protect yourself from tics? Thanks for the wonderful videos and commentary!

    • @CurtisSnapshot
      @CurtisSnapshot  3 місяці тому

      Thank you, I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos! To avoid ticks, I wear long pants and long socks. Sometimes, I even pull my socks up over my pant legs if I'm feeling extra cautious. It might look silly, but it works! I occasionally use bug spray as well, but the smell could scare off potential wildlife encounters, such as the coyote I came across in this video.

      I still consider myself a novice outdoor enthusiast, so my adventures are fairly close to urban areas. When I do adventure somewhere larger, I stick to the posted trails. Thanks for commenting!

    Haven't you considered a matte box like Freewell's Eiger or just a 95mm VND for when you film? That matte box without the flap can be work as a semi-hood with the ability to put in/out the VND/CPL when needed and go neutral for photos. I have the PolarPro Basecamp and it's a pain to even consider getting the CPL out so you're always at a disadvantage of about -1 stop if you consider keeping the matte box on. Love your videos, narration, and the spot-on music in conjunction.

    • @CurtisSnapshot
      @CurtisSnapshot  4 місяці тому

      I have definitely been leaning on the idea of using some sort of VND. Freewell even reached out, asking if I would like to try out their hybrid VND/CPL. However it didn't come in a 95mm filter thread. That being said, I didn't consider a matte box, I will be looking into that!
      Thanks for commenting, glad you enjoyed the video!

      @@CurtisSnapshot I think K&F has a 95mm VND if I recall correctly. There are 95mm VND's that then you can use with other lenses with step up rings😉. Warm regards.

    Oh yeah I have a question.. what metering mode are you using thanks!

    • @CurtisSnapshot
      @CurtisSnapshot  2 місяці тому +1

      I typically stick to multi metering mode. I shoot in manual with auto ISO and a dial programmed for exposure compensation. This allows me to quickly adjust the exposure. Most of my images are slightly underexposed to preserve the highlights, and I brighten them up in post-processing. Thanks for commenting!
