Edward Norton is extremely intelligent. You can tell he's just working on another level a lot of the time
Whereas most hacks merely "act," Edward Norton cures ebola widh his craft⸮
ALAN...........ALAN.............ALAN....
Actors are fantastic at expressing themselves usually. It's their instrument (to adopt the actory pretension).
......and you are?
Unrelated to this video but just thinking about your comment: Ruffalo did a fine job (as the Hulk) but I feel the disagreements that occurred between the networks/studio and Norton continuing on in the Avengers is more a reflection on Norton's passion with the craft. Supposedly the execs wanted someone who was "more on board" and had a more "ensemble spirit" but I can't think of a film where Norton hasn't blended in seamlessly with his costars, I thought Motherless Brooklyn and Birdman were great.
Edward Norton is just brilliant. One of the best actors of his generation!
How come according to his imdb he hasn't starred in many films until recently?
Ayla Petty Supposedly he's difficult to work with (something he sort of played off of in "Birdman," to great effect). That might have something to do with it.
Robert Phillips I think she just means that, as of late, he hasn't done much stuff. Not that he never did, but that he's been in higher-profile stuff with less frequency over the past few years.
Yep. I only get this from his IMDb profile, where the period between 2000 - 2012 looks really bare, with whole years where he hasn't appeared in anything (2007, 2011) or only had one feature in the entire year. Either IMDb has not fleshed his acting credits out to what they should be, or he's very picky over what he works in. 33 credits seems very low for an actor of his fame.
He doesn't get good roles though, like Cumberbatch has.
Their body language. There was a sense of defensiveness at the start but gradually being more comfortable as they begin to be more interested with each other stories. I would've been privileged to hear their prolonged discussion after the interview.
+Jedaqia Angel You're right, at the start they have their legs crossed and it's very formal and professional and towards the end Benedict mirrors what Edward is doing with his legs and they open up and lean in more and the smiles become less awkward and more genuine, it's really nice to see :)
+Jedaqia Angel true!
From 0:20 to 8:13
I got that they were really nervous or at least Benedict seemed to be.
I think Cumberbatch may have been in awe of Norton to a degree. I think every young actor who grew up in the 90s loves what Norton did. As a film fan I remember waiting for every film he released he was on fire back then
Well observed. Norton talked a lot at the beginning, for whatever reason, possibly needing something from Cumberbatch, who kept himself checked to let Norton speak. You could see Cumberbatch lean back a little, but then, as you saw, they found mutual ground, opened up.... The great thing about this series is that actors are, unsurprisingly, excellent at talking about the human conditionm and their own condition in light of it. It's the pallette they draw from. Just as they do on scren or on stage, they make being human a bit more comprehesible. We know ourselves through story, and good actors are all about the story. They told each other stories and did it really well. A good actor, when they're comfortable and engaged, makes excellent company, whether on stage or on screen, or in real life. That's why this series is so good. This is how actors acxtually talk to each other when they're getting real. They speak from some insight, and they are investigating, not selling. It's so very human.
I think i can listen to Ed talk for like 100 hours straight.
Same. Both of them, actually. They should record audio books.
+Erica Eng Benedict has recorded several. :)
+Britt Stine whoa seriously?? Imma look em up!
Check out "Casanova" and "Artists in Crime" - they are both very good.
+Britt Stine thanks!
Edward is a delicate flower, I adore him
Lol I agree, but your profile picture doesn't exactly enhance your statement! XD
Hes not delicate at all, he comes off as strong and powerful and smart as hell
M.L Soll
I do agree with you lol He's very adorable 😂
@@melindachase5046
I know how talented and capable he is but I still adore him sm. Maybe because of his pretty face, his soft voice and his appearance that make him very lovable for me.
Yeah, theres something about him that is so sweet, its his eyes and his lips and his ears and his soft almost young voice makes him irresistible
At 5:14, it looked like Edward Norton got more comfortable in the conversation he's having with Benedict Cumberbatch. Then, at 8:02, Benedict Cumberbatch mirrored his form. That's lovely.
I've just noticed the same things you realised while I was watching this video, it is just simply awsome how their body talks. I think, mainly Benedict was the one who was catched by the thoughts of the other one, it's soo obvious :D
Yeah, their bodies say much more than you would have thought
@@Chaotic_Observer 0
The chairs are in an unlucky position for a conversation like this. That is probably the main reason why they sat like that - they tried to face each other.
I thought he was letting out some gas lul
the IQ in this interview is too damn high!
I've heard Ed Norton has a very high IQ.
Onmysheet So does Benedict Cumberbatch. They are both highly intelligent people, which is awesome. (My lack of genius makes me admire it in others).
+Marta Peterson Womack They're not geniuses though. Just good actors.
+DinosaurFilms Truman Capote once said, "The better the actor, the more stupid he is." He sure was wrong!!
+Onmysheet
Ah Ed......the thinking woman's crumpet
This interview needs to be 5 hours long. Just these two men, talking. That's all I'm asking.
Norton should've won an Oscar for American History X. What a performance!!! He was totally robbed.
+AB Siddique Best performance of the Decade
+AB Siddique Self-indulgent direction and non-editing. It's too long, and much of that is repetition of scene and tone. If it had been edited properly, the performance would have stood out more, as a matter of narrative focus. As is, it feels overdone and slightly overacted.
+AB Siddique He was better in 25th Hour IMO
+AB Siddique Whether he was robbed or not is totally subjective. There are over 6,000 voters for the Oscars. Obviously not enough believed that he deserved it.
+AB Siddique ROberto Benigni was on another level... complete genius
ONLY 10 MINUTES?
JUST 10 FUCKING MINUTES?
NOT EVEN HALF AN HOUR?
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
COME ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Edward Norton: primal fear, Painted veil, american history x, the illiusionist, Score,Fight club, 25 hour, Rounders. The most underrated actor ever. He's i a legend in my eyes.
A very insightful and interesting look into the actor's psyche through Benedict Cumberbatch's and Edward Norton's perspectives. This is not the kind of content one gets from normal interviews. Brilliant stuff. We really need more of these.
I agree completely
***** Good point. People often only see the glamour that is attached to being an actor. Many fail to realise that, at the end of the day, it's really hard work.
Nina Dionisio It really is about tremendous hard work and thought. They are amazing craftsmen of their art. I wish there were more of these interviews, it's interesting to know people's minds.
In Rem Totally agree. I hold Benedict Cumberbatch and actors like him in very high regard, because what they do for a living is truly an art form. It's sad that people usually assume that actors and celebrities (i.e., the Kardashians) are one and the same. I also think that this is the very reason why we don't have much interviews like this one. Actors aren't often asked about their craft because media and the world at large doesn't really take them and what they do seriously. So frustrating.
Nina Dionisio Oh, I feel your concern. Mass consumerism is just...They're often picked on about how their nose looks so shiny and what not. Some of the questions people ask or things they show on tv are just plainly embarrassing. There are so many actors just like B. Cumberbatch whose acting is just deep and captivating, but that's the last thing in a lot of our minds. Success and fame has become separate things from intellect and hard work. Icons are more valued. But I hope that we'll get to see more amazing actors and actresses and their performances. And it would be equally wonderful to hear them talk about their thoughts like this, if they want to that is.
Edward is my favourite actor and someone that I consider a perfect human being and perfect man for almost 9 years. And on the other hand, there's Benedict, who I just love for almost 3 years and who is the second person that made such a huge impression on me as an incredible actor and very very smart and intelligent man. And now I have an opportunity to see them both together. And that's really something. I can't even explain how that makes me feel. It's just perfect.
its great to see Edward Norton back on form
i'll watch *anything* as long as ed norton is in it
Stone?
Dandypanty that was good
same
2 brilliant actors of our time.edward & ben are very engimatic personalities..great to see them both in 1 platform sharing their works
I find it very interesting that they're both the kind of people who don't look at the person they're talking to in the eye.. Both very articulate, measured gentlemen. This was lovely.
I really much appreciated their authentic conversation. Very different from those typical actors chats.
Man these Actor on Actors are fantastic
Simply the best. Edward Norton.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Edward Norton, my favorite two. best actors of my generation
Benedict looks like therapist counselling Edward 😁
That's INFJs for you...ppl always somehow force them to assume that role XD
Great actors.I love Edward Norton.
The memory Edward Norton shared about his flow-state entrainment on stage is a rare example of a conscious transcendental revelation.
Thank you for sharing this candid conversation.
they would make an awesome on screen couple
Indeed
Lol yeah
Dear god this conversation is so elevated. I absolutely love it.
I find fascinating coming back to ed norton and falling in love more with his person. (or at least what i can see on interviews and public appearances). I remember when i was like 15 years old and watching fight club for the first time and just being amazed by his performance. Back in those days i used to watch almost all the filmography of actors i liked and almost all the movies i saw where he was in were amazing. So after so many years coming back and realizing that this actor that i really liked as a teen is actually a very nuanced and interesting human is very cool.
Intelligence, sincerity and frankness!
IMO these two should've won Oscars this year.
Ed was def robbed
+zlameli yep I mean Eddie Redmayne was great as Hawking, but both Benedict and Michael Keaton gave way better performances that year.. and after watching Jupiter Ascending I was just left scratching my head.. what were they thinking?!
Edward was clearly better. Eddie was I think even with Keaton and assumed difficulty won out.
I think I died and went to heaven watching this.
Edward Norton is a fabulous actor. I haven't had the pleasure of watching Mr. Benedict on the big screen but I hope to be given the opportunity.
Eddie is one of the best actors of all time imo
I love Edward's "zen" metaphor about doing a play. I completely get it. I'm always checking off how I felt scenes a b c and d went everytime.
Both are fine representatives of their craft and art. Very interesting conversation. Benedict is on his way up to Meryl Streep's level of excellence and it will be wonderful to watch. He already seems like an "old soul" actor.
I'm so glad that they put these two men together for the interview!
I need them to work together 😃
The cinematography of these videos is outstanding. What a wonderful series.
How can an interview be so underrated?! I feel so bad and stupid that I'm only watching this now! Absolutely brilliant ❤️👏🏾
Its amazing to see both great actors face to face conversation.. great job..
What a brilliant idea to put two excellent actors chatting about movies like this!
Norton control the whole conversation and Cumberbatch go with the flow...you can see the interest Cumberbatch has in Norton’s views...
Norton has been accused of being difficult on set and hard to work with. .. This honest open interview has shown me his particular insight to how a performer can be conflicted on how they're perceived.
Does anyone else just watch hours of interviews with noir actors or am I alone. Stuff like this should be streaming 😞
Your not alone and there is even more now!
Cumberbatch becomes more humanised as Norton converses at a very deep and real level.
Edward Norton is like *"OMG it's Benedict Cumberbatch!!!"*
Edvard is my favorite actor
the makeup/lighting in this video is ridiculous
Ben looked really shiny.
+Taylor Lynn with pink lipstick
cumberbatch with alan rickman could've been stellar too...
+musgrave68 :(
+musgrave68 RIP Mr. Rickman
The room would vibrate too heavily from their voices and collapse
musgrave68 Or Sir Christopher Lee.
That would have been great!
Or Benedict and Matthew Goode!
True artists talking about an artist they both admire, Daniel Day-Lewis. Made my day
I could listen to these two talk for ages!
This interview left me speechless. I mean, not the kind of conversation I expect between an Illusionist and a Sorcerer...
These are so awesome to watch. because we are always evaluating actors on their on screen performances and its very interesting to hear them to talk about their approach to the craft of acting. It really does give you an real appreciation for them as actors! I love the Actor on Actor series.
exactly
both are in my Top 5 fav actors list... what a trip to see them converse.. loved it! Thank you!
I loved Norton since Primal fear. My gosh!! this is a great find!
He's great! I loved him as the leper king baldwin in "kingdom of heaven" but he wears a mask the whole time. really cool performence to watch when you know its him..
I completely forgot about that movie! I’ll need to watch it again.
My goodness.. These two men are such fabulous actors!!!
It's fascinating to see two superstar actors converse about their struggles in maintaining heir art form with all the media attention put on them. I wish someone would make a move on this paradigm. Birdman was the closest inside look we've seen on the struggles of actors, I think it would do Hollywood some good to give their audience an actor's perspective on fame, maybe to incite some sympathy from fans to give them some space.
How am I only just now seeing this? Ed being my favorite actor of all time chatting with my favorite 'newcomer' 💕
Just put me in a room with these two. I'd be in heaven.
For your record I've been a fan of Norton since nearly 2 decades. But I also appreciate enormously Cumberbatch for he is so well structured as human being and as actor. I can rarely find any actor that has his ability of developing any given subject to a very certain depth. But I'm sorry it seems that Norton has difficulties staying relevant on a subject.
Their voices 😍
Totally eargasm.
benedict is very witty... what a brain
It's just the dialect
@@iTzKneecap No dear, it's not.
@@iamgroot2810 He may be witty but it wasn't displayed in this video at all. He didn't make any quick or clever jokes, let alone any jokes at all.
@@iTzKneecap Maybe he felt intimidated by Edward Norton.
@@iamgroot2810 That doesn't mean anything when the original comment was talking about how he's so witty on a video where he displays no wit. He probably is witty but this video doesn't give any impression that should lead to a comment praising his wit.
These two are my favourit.
these are my two favorite actors.
Edward really doesn't let Benedict talk very much
Two of my favorite actors, both because of the intelligence they bring to their roles, which they completely enhance by choosing so wisely. I'd love to have a background job on set to take in all the talent, yet be invisible, like set dressing or stagecraft of some type.
These interview format is the best
Stephen Strange & Bruce Banner
The Marvel Nerd Is Unleashed In Me...
Wow this interview is so informative! Edward Norton is such an Artist! An incredible powerful actor.
it was such a pleasure to see them just talking to each other, so calming and entertaining
I love how Edward Norton talked about DDL.
this is years ago but the relevance of this will never wane
crazy amount of talent in just one video... i would go watch a movie without knowing anything about it if these two are in it.
Be still my heart...whew!!! 😍😍
Its amazing to think that the dude on the right was Derek Vineyard.
Two amazing actors here, would of loved to have been there just to listen. Love Edward norton
Such a great talk.
This is criminally short
I think it was both brilliant and brave of Variety to let the cameras basically roll on a thoughtful conversation in an age when the quick cut is so popular. I enjoyed listening to these two actors tremendously (and the whole series as well) - to listen to their reflections and insights makes me realize how seriously they invest in their craft. Thanks for conceiving of and shooting this series. Please keep them coming.
porqué tan corto esto??...son tan maravillosos estos dos actores que te quedas con ganas de escuchar más..
I just wanted to park my butt on that carpet right there and just sit there listen to them all day.
I don't think I'm humble enough to wish to become a table there, but I'm close.
That's what I wanna do too.
A good discussion. I wish this was much longer.
Two of the most talented actors in cinema history, for me Edward Norton is one of the best crime-thriller actors and Cumberbatch is in his way to be the multi-times oscar winner as Norton should have been
These are very exciting actors, to me. Both talented and intelligent and choose great roles, for the most part. They seem on the same wavelength, chemistry, which some of the other interviewers lacked.
Two geniuses. Love them
Have to watch it twice because the first time I watched it I got distracted... Benedict Cumberbatch looks dapper.
Two great professional actors.🎥🎞🎬👍😂😂🥁
Ughh I need this to be 10 hours long 😩
I really love this series this is another great interview
Dr. strange & Dr. Banner interviewing each other 😂
My 2 favorite actors!
Thank you for uploading this! :D
My favourite two actors😍
I would love to see a movie with these two someday :)
How have I just seen this? Gotta love Benedict!💕👏🏼
Now THIS is actors on actors. How come I only found this now
Wow, that was a refreshingly intelligent and honest discussion. I don't mean, refreshing for these two--just in general. We need more of this, overall, film aside.
two of the best actors today!
I love that they mentioned Daniel Day-Lewis :)
Why hasn't Edward Norton won an Oscar yet?! He fuckin' deserves it!
Ok two of my absolute favourite especially Benedict after watching the imitation game damn I was in w pool of tears! Phenomenal actors 😊
What a gem of a find! I love listening to intelligent people.
