I don't think many people understand how much effort it takes to make so many high value cakes/desserts in a short space of time, but then to film everything you do as well!!!!! You're amazing 👍😋💕
Thanks for watching, they say. Are you kidding me? Thank YOU for giving me something enjoyable to watch! I needed that smile. Sad day. Whaaa. I like days like that, too. I love a good rain, when I am tucked in. And if I am NOT dry, someplace where I can get dry. One of natures little gifts. Have a fantastic, successful and very profitable weekend! Oh! Jo! Whenever you make undercooked brownies, Blondine’s and fruit bars (the coming storm could have been behind it), put them back in the oven at half heat for ~15 minutes. Turn the oven off and you can leave them in as it cools for another 10min if you HAVE TO. If the pick test has very few crumbs, they will finish baking on the counter. If the get too dry, make a simple syrup with coffee, not water and drizzle it on. They will be fantastic. Just a suggestion.
Joanna, you need to learn the joys of the trifle bowl! When cakes don’t turn out, just layer them with filling, frosting, fruit etc. and voilà! It will be just as tasty and look like you meant to go fancy all along! A favorite around here is a layer of brownie, then sprinkle in your favorite candy bar cut up, then a layer of chocolate pudding, then a layer of whipped topping. Repeat. Trifle bowl! Will save the flop every time!
You might think it would "ruin the brand" but I think you would be surprised how many people would eat your rejects if you offered them at a discount 😎
Wow you're a grafter girl! Been there with the sunken lemon drizzle but remember you're in the North......you could've renamed it lemon drizzle pudding , chuck a dollop of cream on and BOOM! There's always a Plan B.....🤣 Steph
Absolutely fantastic that you're doing gluten free, everyone should be able to enjoy a nice treat now and then, might pop down one weekend when I'm in the area. well done!
Have you thought about using tHe cakes that don't quite work out by cutting them into small pieces and serving them in a take away cup with some lovely cream and a small wooden spoon to eat it with. We woud certainly buy it and would never know that it wasn't supposed to be like that!! Love the videos 😁
Jo, you are amazing, your energy and enthusiasm is incredible, best video so far, absolutely love to see just how much work goes into your baking and preparation, and to film it all at the same time, well done🧁🥧🎂
After many years of two-ing and fro-ing between the idea of buying a narrowboat ('citing') and a flat (boring), I'm back on the hunt for a narrowboat, and just today came across your page. Just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed watching your videos and lifestyle. I know it won't all be easy, but I get the feeling it's worth it :-))
Lovely to catch up with you again even if it did leave me desperate for a piece of cake! I don't know what you do with your coffee grounds but when I lived in Bristol, a local barista used to bag it up each day and offer it to customers who were gardeners for their compost heaps, there was always plenty of takers 🏵️
Another amazing video. I just love watching Jo bake, William 💙 watering the plants, and Vic making the coffee. I love your little family. Wondering how did the gluten free lemon cake turn out? Did the people like it. It looked amazing. Thank you for allowing us into your life. Love you 3 Kimberly in Las Vegas NV.🩷🩷
So enjoying your weekly vlogs on the Cafe Boat. Look forward every week to see what you’ll be baking. Wish I was there to taste one of your cakes. Keep up the good work.
You do an amazing job. The cakes with the indents in the middle, if they are cooked well could you not just put a bit of filling in the centre? It does seem such a waste to throw them away just because of the middles.
Thank you for another wonderful vlog. Those cakes look amazing and it’s good to remind people how much hard work and preparation goes into a slice of cake and cup of coffee! I hope you have a fantastic bank holiday weekend 😊
Will you be printing anymore of your cook books. I would love to buy one and not a downloadable version. Love watching your adventures and beautiful cakes 🍰 x
My 2 boys just loved our boating years although we were not live aboards but most weekends and holidays spent on or by the water, They were more than happy to put on their little life vests as just knew they were not allowed off the boat without them, when they got washed and dressed on went the "Boat Coat" as they called it. Be a comfort to see William in one. XX
Wow! Busy weekend. I'd put some ceiling fans up to help cool the place..... any room for a dishwasher? Yes, heat affects your baking. Slice the unaffected parts of the lemon drizzle and sell. Chucking the whole cake is a waste 😊
Maybe/likely it's because I'm 61 and was raised before it was a tech companies' job to engage and entertain me, but I loved this episode because nothing "happened" and yet everything transpires... THE cakes and coffee are great and I appreciate the efforts- but even more so, it's that a day truly well lived doesn't required you to tie long elastic cords to your ankle from a height or swim with whale sharks. All it requires is to be present to what around You. Slow down, or stop if you don't know how to slow down, and absorb the people, places and interactions that make up our day. 95% of most days aren't OMG! Instagram worthy. But they are all magical if you know where and how to look:-) There is a drone shot of the canal at about 18:49 that is beautiful and pretty typical canal money shot minus the sheep/castle.. But it's the throwaway shot a few moments later that really grabbed my attention. So much of the canal is just that. Someone's backyard and overgrown tp boot. Two years ago I spent 3 weeks on a narrowboat we hired out of Tamworth (we are from Canada and I did not say that you should NOT chase your dreams and go on adventures:-). I tried in vain to catch up with Holly but back then they really didn't' make their whereabouts too easy to find. It seemed they were more in the witness protection program rather than running a café but:-) We found Coventry and Stratford and Wales all amazing and bucolic as you would expect, but 3-4 days on the Black Country ring around Birmingham pulling carpets and jumpers and fishing nets out of the prop/weed hatch as often as hourly in the worst parts was in the end, as interesting and joyful as the best Roast lamb Sunday dinner at The Dog and Doublet! Keep up the low tech ASMR:-)
Got this as a suggestion to watch by youtube, probably because of the amount of baking channels I watch. Absolutely love what you are doing, and the amount of hard graft you put in to making all those lovely bakes in a small space is amazing. And what better place could there be for your sons early years life experiences. You’ve got a new sub in me, I shall now binge watch all the other videos over the bank holiday weekend. Could definitely snaffle a slice of the viccy sponge with with a coffee if it wasn’t such a long yomp from Accy 😂 Off to bake some bread
Have you thought of making crumble bags/offcuts with the cakes that aren't quite upto standard. I also use them for the base of trifles too. Lovimg your channel. New watcher amd I'm hooked
I love watching you bake and what a gift you have for everyone to enjoy your cakes a great video lovely family may the sun keep shining in your lives and feel the magic in the wonders of the universe .
I like many, really look forward to seeing whats happening with your guys, you never disappoint . Maybe you could have sold the chocolate brownies and sunken cakes but under a funky name. Thanks for a great start to the last bank holiday (in the UK), this side of Summer ☺
Thank you guys 👍 I really look forward to watching your superb vlogs 👏 Excellently put together 🎂🍰🥧☕🍮🍪 Wonderful seeing William grow up so quickly 👍Is your book still available? 📖 Keep up the fab work 💯👏 Much love 😘
You guys make such amazing videos - cut at 14:08 was a bit abrupt, mind you. They seem so intimate and so thoughtful, yet full of colour and action. It's a pleasure to follow you. There is a moment, 6:18 when William turns to look up at his mum(?)/dad(?), where you can see just joy, and security and naturalness. The sign of a child who knows real love.
Joanna, I read some comments about the GF lemon cake being a success. Yeah, well done!!! My Better Half has to eat 100% gluten free food - and also has to be careful about cross contamination from other non gluten free foods as well as from utensils / counter tops, etc that have been used with non gluten free products. It is hard work, but we have managed to fairly successfully create a gluten free zone. I must say that the quality of gluten free foods and products have grown exponentially in recent years. For example, there are now some delicious breads and cereals. Excellent video again! You know, you really have created a neighborhood coffee shop. It is hard work, and you looked exhausted with all the baking and the heat. The kitchen must be a real challenge during the warmer months. Are fans or shades an option?
Joanna, my wife, who is an excellent baker, said she knows how disheartening it can be when cakes don’t work out. However she said she would’ve used both lemon drizzle bottoms and made a sandwich or cake pops for the children. Just a thought and please don’t think we’re teaching anyone to suck eggs x
Thank-you for sharing your life. Mention of the milk float brought back memories of 60 years ago watching the milk float coming up the 1:6 hill to make a delivery.
I am sohhh happy you are back filming. You just know how to film. On my favorites list along with Mindful narrowboat with the wonderful Vanessa and of coarse Ben and Emily ❤ my top 3 each of you film to high quality and just the best viewing. Much better than TV
Love Jo’s baking videos so much! I’ve been making a similar gf cake for my husband, but with oranges (almond flour is the flour replacement) and it is DELICIOUS - I just might mix things up and try a lemon version! Everything looks delicious 😍
Great video, I'm hungry for cake now. Just a thought, try putting a fan on the north side of the boat, in the shade and direct the slightly cooler air through the boat, it might help.
Jo, you should have saved those "ruined" cakes (they looked like my normal efforts 🙂), broke them up and give them to the customers kids to feed the birds as an added attraction 🦢🦢🐦🐦
You are both so awesome! Bringing up a beautiful child that is happy, all the wonderful and exciting cakes that are not always so easy to bake at times (I have a Reine Saba chocolate cake that can be very temperamental & it is GF) The videos are fantastic too- I love the mixture of your day to day happenings interwoven with the flora and fauna of life along the canal.... Fabulous
Just handed my daughter a copy of your cook book as part of her birthday present and she was over the moon. Started to bake within the hour. Fire brigade on standby will let you know if we survive the taste test. 🤞
Nooo. Don't throw them out. Just have a tray of 'Outbakes'. Cheaper of course but they'll sell. I would buy the lot if I didn't live a zillion Miles away. You can do no wrong in our eyes.😂😊😂😊
I hope you feel brighter now Jo. It must be really stressful juggling cakes, weather, timers and little William at times. You amaze me every cafe day. Wishing you all the very best always ❤️⚽️William❤️❤️🇦🇺🦘
I dont know what you do with your left over coffee granules, but some people like them for their gardens. Some cafes give them away in bags. Might be more nuisance than helpful to you. But just a thought. I so wish I could taste your cakes they look so yummy. William is now living in such a lovely environment now you are on the boat. So much nature around to explore 🥰
If only the immediate area surrounding the "Holly" was tidied up and the junk moved away. If the stoney area could get a pressure wash and a few pretty pots with flowers hanging about, the place would look a thousand times more inviting. The cakes look great. I wish I could try them .
Loved the video, it's such a lot of work getting enough cake ready for the café & I'm sure most people have no idea. You both came across very well on the Channel 4 episode, true ambassadors for canal boat living.
That was a stupendous vlog. You worked so hard and those lemon cakes that sunk!! Oh no! I was wondering if you could have made trifle with them as they went in the bin. Well done guys. Xx
I have to say I have made a few lemon drizzle cakes now and they are lovely, But the last one I made the middle sunk in a bit, not sure why thou, I did take a photo will have to find it and put it here, maybe you know why?.still tastes yummy thou... just saw that this just happened to you, maybe it is the heat, lol I am in Australia...
You work so hard with your cake baking Jo & for them to go wrong must be so frustrating & the cost too! Though all look amazing. You looked shattered by the end. Love watching your vlogs & seeing little William, he’s growing up so fast x
Lived in Wilmslow, married in Mobberley, reception in Alderley Edge. Pretty succesful business life and now live near Biarritz in Southern France. But where I would love to be right now is Bollington, eating your cakes and dodging the rain. Great vlogs. Great family, be carefull what you wish for !
Hi. Joanna you are such a talented baker, you make it look so easy. I tried muffins from a box once and managed to mess them up however we lived in Sweden at the time and I couldn't understand the instructions, well that's what I told everyone 😊. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!
Another great vlog Jo. Your passion for your baking really shines through . Really well done on the Gluten free cake. You must be so well organised to get all your different bakes done. You certainly work so hard, what with being a Mum, baking, running the café business and providing your U tube content. Wish I lived nearer as I would love to come to your cafe boat for a coffee and cake. Thank You for sharing
I don't think many people understand how much effort it takes to make so many high value cakes/desserts in a short space of time, but then to film everything you do as well!!!!! You're amazing 👍😋💕
I would have happily bought and eaten those brownies!

A Whoopsie Lemon Cake ....
@@escapeman9016 Yes great idea
I’d gladly eat the ones that you consider flops, Jo.
You should cut up the failed baked goods into free sample sized cubes so they don't go to waste.
"You *might* " etc
That final duck dashing home in the rain was magical! What a great life for William :)
You both work so hard - what a team! Thank you for letting us into your life ❤
A fresh video from Holly the boat cafe. What a brilliant way for me to start the bank holiday ❤
Wow you're a grafter girl! Been there with the sunken lemon drizzle but remember you're in the North......you could've renamed it lemon drizzle pudding , chuck a dollop of cream on and BOOM! There's always a Plan B.....🤣 Steph
What a lovely family. I wish all of them the very best going forwards.
Absolutely fantastic that you're doing gluten free, everyone should be able to enjoy a nice treat now and then, might pop down one weekend when I'm in the area. well done!
Good to see you getting some exposure on Channel 4 you deserve it and looks like things are going great :)

❤ William is growing so fast. Please teach him how to swim😊
Yes! I wonder to myself if he knew how to swim. Water safety for children an absolute must for him.
Another lovely video. So much work into the cafe weekends and the videos. Thank you so much for taking us along.
Lovely to catch up with you again even if it did leave me desperate for a piece of cake!

What a LOVELY FAMILY !
I was Flabbergasted at the NON-USE of those super delicious GOOEY Chocolate Brownies !
I Love Gooey cakes !
Stay Gooey !

Great video, cakes look divine yum yum. It’s lovely to see so many people come and enjoy coffee and cake. Keep up the good work.😊
I love that you're doing that with the GF cake - it's much appreciated by all us non-muggles!
You do an amazing job. The cakes with the indents in the middle, if they are cooked well could you not just put a bit of filling in the centre? It does seem such a waste to throw them away just because of the middles.
Thanks, enjoyed your video. ✌🏻👊🏼
Beautifully put together video. Love the day in the life of Holly the cafe boat. 😊
Thank you for another wonderful vlog. Those cakes look amazing and it’s good to remind people how much hard work and preparation goes into a slice of cake and cup of coffee! I hope you have a fantastic bank holiday weekend 😊
William adds joy and contentment to your videos, and it makes my week to watch you all. Thank you for this wee peek into a slower life. xx

Bet your boat smells lovely with doing all that baking 😋
Love watching you prep , bake, and sell your wonderful cake. It was so fun to see all people enjoying your hard work.

You should be very proud of yourselves, you work so hard for your success, your cakes and coffees are amazing. God bless you both. Xx
I love watching your cook book come to life. I wouldn't waste your broken cakes, I'd have a Not Quite Right Menu too
Thank-you for sharing your life. Mention of the milk float brought back memories of 60 years ago watching the milk float coming up the 1:6 hill to make a delivery.

Makes me feel like baking a cake, you make it look so easy
Wonderful video. My goodness, you folks sure work hard. Enjoyed the show. Your editing was, as always, par excellence.
you look soo happy..👍
Thoroughly enjoyable !
Great video, I'm hungry for cake now.

Jo, you should have saved those "ruined" cakes (they looked like my normal efforts 🙂), broke them up and give them to the customers kids to feed the birds as an added attraction 🦢🦢🐦🐦
When is the book likely to be back ? Purchased 1 now the other daughter feels like cake making 😊
You are both so awesome! Watching this is a pure joy. Thank you so much for sharing your lives and adventures, it's such an uplifting thing you are doing.
Just handed my daughter a copy of your cook book as part of her birthday present and she was over the moon. Started to bake within the hour. Fire brigade on standby will let you know if we survive the taste test. 🤞
Wow, you work so hard. Your cakes are beautiful. I love seeing William. He always has a little toy in his hand. He's so adorable. Good job guys.

The location of this boatyard gives your family the best of both worlds: canal and countryside.
I love making stuff out of your cookbook
Looks exhausting but rewarding, doing what you love. Drooling over the cakes 🍰. Delicious. Happy Bank Holiday 😊
Your videos are so relaxing. Easy to watch. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing the joy.......................................>
Coffee and Wallnut, and Carrot Cake please.. 🎂🙂🍰
Or just empty them into a bucket with a scoop and let gardeners bring their own bags to collect some - will save you a trip to the bins 🙂
Used Coffee grounds good as Fertilizer also Repel Insects and Pests
You could give the used coffee grounds to people to put on there rose, works wonders
Wow baking looks lovely, what a busy little business you guys have well done, enjoyed the video 👌😋
What a beautiful life ❤️
Is there going to be another print of your book Jo. I’d seen it was sold out.
Hmmmm...cake!!!!! Wonderful.
Love love love seeing your journey. What a gorgeous family 😊
Another great vid. I find them really relaxing. Good to see you all.
If only the immediate area surrounding the "Holly" was tidied up and the junk moved away. If the stoney area could get a pressure wash and a few pretty pots with flowers hanging about, the place would look a thousand times more inviting. The cakes look great. I wish I could try them .
I think a fortune was spent to keep the picnic tables dry
But that's exactly how I like brownies... just slightly undercooked. I'll have those!
So enjoy you’al and your little family!!!! God Bless!!!
Good to see you three enjoying life
Gosh that would have been stressful cooking in that heat !! Your cakes looked beautiful and so yummy. Perhaps a fan for the summer might be the go ❤
Also I’m loving Narrow Escapes on tv xx
Loved the video, it's such a lot of work getting enough cake ready for the café & I'm sure most people have no idea.
You both came across very well on the Channel 4 episode, true ambassadors for canal boat living.
You’ve given me hope. for no reason after years of baking I’m having quite a few fails. Still eat them but so disappointing.
That was a stupendous vlog. You worked so hard and those lemon cakes that sunk!! Oh no! I was wondering if you could have made trifle with them as they went in the bin. Well done guys. Xx

As always, I nice way to spend Friday. Thank you. I loved the walk in nature with Will. He is at the age of,curiosity!
You work so hard with your cake baking Jo & for them to go wrong must be so frustrating & the cost too!
Though all look amazing. You looked shattered by the end. Love watching your vlogs & seeing little William, he’s growing up so fast x
