In our little town, we had a huge drainage ditch that we used as a sort of short-cut between neighborhoods. It became a bit of a tribal scene - straight out of Lord of the Flies, with groups forming and fracturing as we grew older. At various times, different groups of kids held control of different portions of the ditch as a sort of way to maintain control of the little hang-out spots they'd created. One year, a group that controlled the junction with another portion of the ditch decided to set booby traps and set in motion a series of ridiculous playground guerilla tactics; spears, logs, tripwire alarms - you get the picture. Some psychopath hung a massive rock from a tree and wired it to a tripwire aimed to swing into the "intruder." The kid that triggered it got a concussion and needed seven stitches, because he was new to the neighborhood and was riding his bike down the ditch.
Story Time: When I was around 13 years old my grandpa surprised me with a trip to skateboard camp. This camp was held at a resort in the mountains in New Hampshire / Vermont. I was a large child, rapidly approaching 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. I was not a gifted skateboarder, I considered myself a strong beginner at best. The skate camp offered daily afternoon activities that weren't skateboarding, such a going to the pool, mountain biking, tubing, and other cool things. I decided to go mountain biking on one of these afternoons, and was given the biggest rental bike they had available. Remember, this mountain biking in the mountains, meaning I am literally going up a ski lift with my bike (the lift had hooks to put the bikes on while you went up), and while most of the main hill-bomb type trails were closed, the vast majority of cross-country trails and similar "woods trails" were available. We all went down the same back trails as a group, with me almost completely at the back., I will never forget seeing the whole group do this small but fun looking jump, the only risk being a medium sized tree in the general landing zone. Every single person hit the jump, no one fell. I had confidence, I hit the jump with a good amount of speed, went up.... and landed perfectly. However.... I dragged to a halt immediately, almost falling over the handlebars. I get off the bike and a counselor stops to help... and it turns out I landed hard enough mess up the rear wheels lock-in mechanism, so the wheel just popped out of the frame, letting the back of the frame drag into the ground. I had to borrow the counselors bike while he patched mine back together to try and ride back. The bike rental guy laughed his ass off when I told him. I was SO embarrassed. As a large child, I was mortified. I still think about it sometimes. Skate camp was pretty cool though.

I was at my grandparents who lived at the top of a hill in a retirement community. I was rollerblading down this really steep paved hill, turning off at the first turn, getting pretty good speed. I decided to go past it to the 2nd turn once, quickly realized if i tried to turn i'd definitely crash because of how much speed i had gained, and just continued down the hill. Luckily at the bottom there was a curb with grass on the other side, so i just hit it and fell forward. Skinned my shin and arm really bad, went back up, stuck big bandaids on, and wore a sweatshirt to hide it the rest of the trip lol

Around the age of 7 I found a loaded 2 barrel derringer under the toy box and pointed it at my mom sitting on the couch. I thought it was a new toy. I built jumps as a kid for my bike. Lots of kids in the neighbourhood would come use it. We were having a competition one day to see who could get the most air. One of my friends hit the jump, got good air, landed, bent his forks. They were literally U shaped. His tire was jammed so hard against the frame that it ruptured and he flew off the bike and ate dirt. Ill never forget it, only time ive seen forks actually flex so hard that they U themselves.
Nicotine has helped people with schizophrenia and people with digestive disorders. But the risks usually outweigh the benefits and there are usually better options! I also on a personal level used to get a lot of pain relief from smoking cigarettes. I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and constant chronic joint pain. I don’t know what the mechanism behind that, but it kind of slightly numbs everything. I have had a significant difference in my digestive disorders since I quit smoking, but my heart is much healthier. And to be honest it’s likely I would have had the same digestive issues with or without cigarettes, and this way I am healthier now, and potentially healthier in the future too.
I agree with Nigel about Salvia, it's an interesting experience taking a powerful "white out" inducing dissociative. Not something I would call unpleasant, but definitely not very fun. I found trying to figure out what a television was to be unsettling. 🤣. I would say "if you want to know what it's like to hard reboot your entire brain, try salvia."
When I was a kid, I was riding my bike home from school the day spring break started. I decided I was going to go as fast as I could down a street that was a big hill. Right as I got to the bottom, a car that was driving down the perpendicular road crosses right into where I'm headed, and I'm still going max speed. I hit the car destroying my bike, a car door, my foot, my right elbow, and my leg. I immediately tried to get up and run home, but I only got about 15ft before I collapsed and realized what had happened. Luckily the position my arm was stuck in (no cast, actually physically couldn't move) was a 90 degree angle, so I just played PC games all spring break. TL;DR Will's story at 21:18 except I was on a bike and there was actually a car Edit: I've also done the same thing as the story Kevin tells at 30:53, except it was an ATV. Biggest scar I have was from that barbed wire.
22:30 Something like that actually happened to someone in the town of my school. Unfortunately there was a truck turning into his street and it slowly ran him over. He didn't survive much longer.
For fireworks un-safety we have something nice, the San Juan. On some public squares they hang sparklers all over and lots of people run under it, an average family spend a 100€ on fireworks and theres a tally the next day for the number of appendages lost.
When I was a kid, multiple times a day several days per week I would jump my bike off a sweet ramp the sidewalk made at this intersection near my house without looking for traffic. Almost a decade of this and I somehow never got hit by a car. Amazing.
kevin looks like a nerd but somehow has the most badass stories. “I was riding my motorcycle and rammed into a bunch of barbed wire on an abandoned golf course” I swear to god florida is a third world country
24:38 dude memory unlocked, when I was a kid I had an electric bike, and my cousin and 3 other kids convinced me to daisy chain our bikes together, all was well while I was in control, I didn't try to snap the line or go to fast. But my cousin insisted on leading the pack, almost immediately it snapped and the bike I was on jack knifed and fell down handlebars up, I smashed into the bars with my chest, they had no rubber anymore. I had the biggest black bruise right on my heart. I'm lucky I survived legitimately.
Running on a treadmill is physically equivalent to running with a tailwind which is the same as your running speed, since normally the ground would move relatively toward you, but the air to. On a treadmill, however, the ground moves toward you, but not the air, thus essentially giving you tailwind.
I remember being at a park as a kid and there was a super tall hill behind it with these downhill mountain biking jumps. There were jumps of all sizes from like little beginner ones that were less than a foot tall and some that were 2-3 feet off the ground, but there was one area that was like X-games-level professional you could die type of jumps. I remember going up there and standing at the base of one of the jumps and it was over twice my height - like legit 8-9 feet tall - and it had a gap of about 10 feet between itself and the landing ramp. On top of that, the hill that was at least a 50% grade so when you hit those ramps you were flying. Anyways, I was down at the park with my friend and I saw this ~12 year old kid up on the hill. He was on this mountain bike that was way too big for him and we watched him make his way all the way up past the beginner and intermediate runs to the top of the death run. I thought he was going to go up and take a look, then walk back down but no, he started riding down. At this point, I try to get my friend's attention so I yell "holy sh*t! That kid's gonna die! haha" At that point, everyone looks up and this guy goes "wait! That's my son!" Right at that moment, the kid goes off the first massive jump and his front wheel plows into the back of the landing ramp and this kid gets launched like 20 feet down the hill face-first. I legit thought that the kid was gonna die, the dad sprinted up the hill while on the phone with 911 and they both end up walking back down the hill right as paramedics arrive. The kid ended up with a broken collarbone and some serious road rash, but otherwise was moving around fine. Kids must have rubber bones and gelatinous internal organs because an adult who did that would have been put out of commission for sure.
The spokes on the bike probably weren't torqued correctly. A wheel can take huge impacts of all the spokes are torqued, which, no one ever does. If not, the wheel is pretty much only as strong as the tightest spokes
As someone who has accidentally set off a model rocket motor with nothing attached, I can confirm that it is scary. It's like a massive angry bee on crack.

And Kevin is still a fellow textbook case of ADHD: having obligations (even trivial) is painful because we explode every task into sub-tasks and sub-sub-tasks and we worry about all aspects of each of those and it becomes unsurmountable very quick xD
At 14 I was reading Heavy Metal Magazine while riding my bike without hands. Hit the back of a parked RV. Broke my nose & wrist. Owner of said RV gave me a ride home & said "don't worry about that big ass dent in the back".
I like these guys but holy shit they can be so arrogant and dense when it comes to safety and law. Like duh fireworks are a problem because of the fire danger. Can cigarettes also cause fires? Sure but one could argue the entire point of fireworks is to cause fire lol
Sounds like Kevin and I are kindred spirits. I hate having to do things. When I’m home I’m zen. My fortress of solitude if you will. Family dinners are a big peeve of mine.
Fun fact: the table thing he tried to jump with the roller skates is called a manual board/pad. Used for skateboarding, ya get up on it and manual (wheelie).
Bandwidth is one thing, but I'm guessing that whatever the software is doing for yous it probably stores and processes the 3 a/v streams "in the cloud", and while it isn't prohibitively expensive, I can see how it indeed becomes "actual money". You could, in theory, set up sth similar using open source and a spare (decent) PC, assuming you have a proper modern fibre (which I understand US has "patchy"), but it would be a lot of effort to save I guess not that much money, especially when you include all overheads and "convenience fee"
Hell yeah longboarding! I'm an avid dog boarder I highly recommend. If your dog likes to pull, get them a harness, yourself a longboard. And find a nice section of clean pavement next to some grass. Or like any board walk in socal. And go. I'm learning to skateboard now. I feel like my skills have plateaued with longboard dog skating. I want to finally learn how to Ollie and shit. Ideally learn to Ollie my longboard. But like yeah. Currently in the riding/manual nollie? What's a nose manual? Then maybe a shove it. And Ollie. Basically I want to get comfortable with the board, and transferring my weight on it. Then learn to Ollie, and probably grind before kickflips. I've just put this off because I have a husky and he needs to run. But I literally bought my skateboard the day before I got him or like the week. I got him when he hopped a fence.
it is the low 20's average. If you DH Longboard you might be trained better to run out for close to the 30's. but past that... you go over face first which is where the rolls come in....
Sugar dependency is actually a bit more like drug dependency, but the difference is that sugar is needed, or rather present in our bodies naturally. But indeed, it's reward centre activation addiction is also like other such ones as gambling, sex addiction, social media addiction. Better differentiation between psychoactive substances is whether it creates a physical/physiological dependency. Nicotine, alcohol, opiates definitely do. Sugar - a bit, but it's really very mild. I'm not sure about sympathomimetics, I think they don't really, but a rapid and drastic withdrawal might be risky regardless. I don't think THC has any withdrawal syndrome other than psychological...
Smoked weed all day every day for like 8 years. Got arrested and was on probation, so obviously I stopped. The only thing I felt was lack of hunger and a harder time sleeping for like three days. I guess you could consider that withdrawal? Lol very very mild.
1:01:20 Salvia came and went faster than the trip lasted. It wasn't stupid people doing it, it was psychonauts. Lasts as long as a nitrous trip... So maybe 10 minutes. But it effects felt like a Dmt/ayahuasca trip. My friends and I had great trips. The funniest trip I saw my buddy thought he was Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible... And started panicking when he learned he was in a closet.
In my health class, we learned about the dangers of alcohol, but I'm not sure if that was just something specifically my teacher decided to lecture on. (I'm in the US)
What? Salvia was fun…. Some of my friends who also tried it have doctorates now. You experience complete time dilation and a different “reality”, like a dream state. I was laughing the whole time. I thought I’d been laughing for hours in a technicolor, disco train station and started getting concerned the dorm RA’s would get suspicious, but it was only 3 minutes. Definitely bummed it’s not available anymore.

An eight ball is just a unit of measurement. It's slang for an eighth, which is an eighth of an ounce (3.5g). Usually it refers to coke or meth, but it can refer to heroin too, but that's usually sold by the point (0.1g). And the drugs you could buy online back in the day are called designer drugs. They're drugs that are very chemically similar to an illicit drug, but with small tweaks that, at the time, made them technically legal, but also introduced a myriad of unknown side effects. For example, look at the chemical structures of methamphetamine and 4-methylmethcathinone (also known as mephedrone). Chemically, they're very similar and as such they have similar effects, but in the early 2000s, mephedrone was technically legal to sell in many western countries and it was often sold as bath salts. Designer drugs are basically all illegal nowadays. Prior to the designer-drug craze, most countries created comprehensive lists of specific drugs that were illegal. Now most countries just maintain a basic list of the most well-known illicit drugs of each class and have supplemental laws that make any substance illicit if it has similar effects to any other illicit drug.
Nigel, you went a little over your head. What you’re referring to mixed with heroin is a “speedball.” An “eightball” is a unit of measurement for a single substance. An eighth, or 3.5gs
High performance runner here: No, you’re not faster on a treadmill inherently. There are some treadmills that are faster to run on that are kinda shaped like bananas. But because of relativity it’s not faster to run on a treadmill than on regular ground lol. Also no teenage girl can run 30mph. 30kmph is probably what was happening (which is still crazy fast! Good for her!) Top speed is around 45 k/h for the fastest people in the world (28mph).
Despite what they say, I think Salvia is actually pretty neat. It's not something I would call pleasant or fun, but it's fascinating to see what the human brain is capable off. The coolest thing about Salvia is that scientists have found an endogenous substance that binds to the kappa opioid receptor in the exact same way as Salvinorin A. Pretty wacky stuff. Also, it's never been found to cause brain damage. Indigenous people in Mexico have been using it ceremonial for centuries and they have no abnormalities in their brain.
3:45; it sounds like you too are a victim of Parkinson's Law. It's not necessarily procrastination, but if I'm not given a strict deadline I can always find something else that "needs" polishing and it just becomes a prolonged state of stress.
I have more than a couple… but I lived to tell the tale. One that comes to mind is diving out of a canoe into 2’ of water. Landed face first Smashed my face and somehow didn’t break my neck. Oh and it was during a trip to the river for my 13th birthday.
If you've only heard bad salvia trips, you are hanging with the wrong crowd. I've heard dozens of trascendental stories with life changing experiences with very positive vibes. What I've heard is that you are supposed to take salvia alone, in dim light and with good ambience music. The trip is 5 to 20 minutes but you experience time dilation so intense you can have an hours-long experience within that time.

Luckily the position my arm was stuck in (no cast, actually physically couldn't move) was a 90 degree angle, so I just played PC games all spring break.
TL;DR Will's story at 21:18 except I was on a bike and there was actually a car
Edit: I've also done the same thing as the story Kevin tells at 30:53, except it was an ATV. Biggest scar I have was from that barbed wire.
Once again graced by one of the best podcasts out there.
22:30 Something like that actually happened to someone in the town of my school. Unfortunately there was a truck turning into his street and it slowly ran him over. He didn't survive much longer.
Fellow Mexican here, if you want to see the kind of "fireworks" we play with, search for: "exploding hammer festival"
Rubber ball rocket sounds interesting, shouldn’t be too hard to make either… might do it idk
Hey Willam Eggman , Florida man Kevin and Nile purple !
18:39
Literally the dog from Up.
An actual outro. You all are growing up, I'm so proud. :D
Nigel knows how to party. I fucking knew it.
20:45 Yeah I did this one while going downhill, went right over the handlebars and landed on asphalt.
The spokes on the bike probably weren't torqued correctly. A wheel can take huge impacts of all the spokes are torqued, which, no one ever does. If not, the wheel is pretty much only as strong as the tightest spokes
So excited😂 Thank you for another podcast boys!🙏
As someone who has accidentally set off a model rocket motor with nothing attached, I can confirm that it is scary. It's like a massive angry bee on crack.
It would be cool to do a split episode with the SomeOrdinaryPodcast
Real
I remember seeing that dare add with the person melted to the couch and I was like oh cool that looks fun
Just here in the comments to make note of how William says Alcohol weird.
Really glad I the algorithm has blessed me with yalls presence. It's my first time here, I noticed you have guests sometimes have you considered trying to get Hamilton Morris on I bet he'd be an interesting one.
babe wake up new safety third podcast ep 💔
And Kevin is still a fellow textbook case of ADHD: having obligations (even trivial) is painful because we explode every task into sub-tasks and sub-sub-tasks and we worry about all aspects of each of those and it becomes unsurmountable very quick xD
oh shit do i have ADHD?
@@Time_traveling_donuts i thought the same thing?? i’ve been questioning this for a few years now
Kevin's satirical comedy is unmatched.
At 14 I was reading Heavy Metal Magazine while riding my bike without hands. Hit the back of a parked RV. Broke my nose & wrist. Owner of said RV gave me a ride home & said "don't worry about that big ass dent in the back".
44:42 it's because fireworks can more easily harm others more than cigarettes or alcohol
13:30 You ever Ghost Ride a Bike. You shoot it out in front of you, you end up on one spot standing still
Weird hearing there’s actual fireworks stores. I always got them from big tents on the side of the road
Fun fact: the table thing he tried to jump with the roller skates is called a manual board/pad. Used for skateboarding, ya get up on it and manual (wheelie).
28:28 Nigel drinks a Redbull
Bandwidth is one thing, but I'm guessing that whatever the software is doing for yous it probably stores and processes the 3 a/v streams "in the cloud", and while it isn't prohibitively expensive, I can see how it indeed becomes "actual money". You could, in theory, set up sth similar using open source and a spare (decent) PC, assuming you have a proper modern fibre (which I understand US has "patchy"), but it would be a lot of effort to save I guess not that much money, especially when you include all overheads and "convenience fee"
@Dalmaron The First That's why I put it in quotes, I'm painfully aware what the cloud is (fullstack /w devops) ;)
@Dalmaron The First np, good looking out, peace
California high school student here, but we are actually taught about alcohol and tobacco in health class now!
Bois thanks for keeping me company while I work
11:41 its not about thick children bending bike rims. only thick children survive bending bike rims.
YES JIMMY
Had a add for riverside before this video and wondered why , now i know. it does seem pretty good though
Lol very very mild.
its not needed, i eat meat everyday and not once have i died
@@CybersteelEx you make glucose in the glucogenesis process in your liver (from fat in meat). You need it, you just make it yourself.
I had a very similar experience driving a go kart as the story William told.
In my health class, we learned about the dangers of alcohol, but I'm not sure if that was just something specifically my teacher decided to lecture on. (I'm in the US)
I broke my collarbone riding my Onewheel on the beach, I was "only" going about 12mph when it randomly cut out and sent me ragdolling across the sand.
they do the basic kinematics calculations before building the big air jumps so that they know how far they will go at a certain speeds
I’m still getting over William chopping a live wire in half with a meat cleaver
Most peoole with those nightmare experiences, knew nothing about harm reduction and smoked full bowls of a super potent extract. KOR agonists are really neat.
William’s talking about his E and I’m over here with my J motor like “eh it’s not even an L3”
I never thought I'd ever find a conversation about bikes really interesting, but here we are. xD Haven't been on a bicycle since I was 12-13 because I *hated* how my dad was always making me ride it. T-T
Yeah, I also have some of those stories
Kevin passing the forbidden blunt 39:45
Nigel, you went a little over your head. What you’re referring to mixed with heroin is a “speedball.” An “eightball” is a unit of measurement for a single substance. An eighth, or 3.5gs
I think going bigger than an E would be impractical. Personally, I think Will would look good with DDs
High performance runner here:
No, you’re not faster on a treadmill inherently. There are some treadmills that are faster to run on that are kinda shaped like bananas. But because of relativity it’s not faster to run on a treadmill than on regular ground lol.
Also no teenage girl can run 30mph. 30kmph is probably what was happening (which is still crazy fast! Good for her!)
Top speed is around 45 k/h for the fastest people in the world (28mph).
Made homemade M-80s as a kid, in the 1970s. Also made the flash powder. Nigel could easily make it.
Kevin - I also drink from comically large glass jars.
Hearing about being pull by bikes reminds me of when my uncle tied a sled to the back of his 4runner.
I have more than a couple… but I lived to tell the tale.
One that comes to mind is diving out of a canoe into 2’ of water. Landed face first
Smashed my face and somehow didn’t break my neck.
Oh and it was during a trip to the river for my 13th birthday.
I had a good time with salvia. I smoked it once and had nothing negative. Just a wild trip for like a minute.
i feel 30 feet off of a house twice as a kid no idea how i’m not dead
Nigel needs his own podcast! And onlyfans! …or just onlyfans 😅
Yes xD
immscared to imagine how it would look like
If you've only heard bad salvia trips, you are hanging with the wrong crowd.
