Should You Remove Wisdom Teeth?

- Wisdom-teeth, also known as third molars, are the final set of molars that typically emerge in the back of the mouth. These teeth usually make their appearance during the late teenage years or early twenties, although they may not always cause problems. However, there are potential issues and complications to be aware of. Overcrowding, impaction, infection, or damage to adjacent teeth are common concerns that are associated. That's why many people undergo wisdom teeth extraction. Pain, infection, decay, or preventive measures are often the reasons behind this procedure. During the extraction, anesthesia is administered, an incision is made, and the tooth is carefully removed. #shorts #3d #animation #dental #teeth #wisdomteeth
I don't know which hurts more, taking my wisdom tooth out or just get used to eating in a painful way 💀
Forget it, it goes away for most people. They comeback in your twenties and early thirties but keeper for your old age. Dentists just want to make that money.

@@LKH9ChannelI hope that’s the case cuz I got the wisdom teeth coming out rn n they’re not hurting me at all. Idk if it’s cuz I have braces or if they’re not fully out yet. You really got so luck, my top left shifted the entirety of my top row and my bottom right never straightened and started fusing to my jaw bone 😅
The ones that grew on the gum line were okay. Other 2 shifted a bit which also shifted the gum line. The pain on the 1st one! Oh my word! It lasted for a week though.
The other one, I had cloves on my mouth all the time for pain management and it grew just fine. Kicker, I am 28.
Mine grew in on the sides growing towards my cheeks, it hurt so much but now I'm better after I got them removed
Just got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday. I'm 21 years old, and they gave me general anesthesia VIA an IV. I fell asleep within 30 seconds to a minute, and when I woke up, there was gauze in my mouth. Now that the surgery is done, I have those "Chipmunk cheeks" and I am sore. It hurts, but it's not agonizing. I have to eat soft foods like mashed potatoes, Jell-O, and pudding. Wish me luck, because this will be my life for 1 or 2 weeks.
Edit: The surgery was covered by my insurance, but for context I had all 4 removed. Without insurance, it would have been $3,500 out of pocket.
How much did you pay out of pocket?
@@mr.brooks9802 I didn't have to, my insurance was approved. But if It wasn't, it would have been $3,500.
Lucky to be put to sleep for it. I was talking to my parents about my wisdom teeth and my mom decided to call ahead to the clinic without telling me and instead of having a normal cleaning I'm suddenly having my tooth drilled and cut out of my mouth and I can say that experience was probably the worst thing I've experienced in my life with me feeling them having the scalpel like tool or that metal rod piece as they loosen the flesh around the tooth.
To top it off fate decided to kick me in the balls again as I got sick the next few days. Not sure how much of that was me going through light shock or extreme stress from not being mentally prepared at all for that operation.
I was just chilling, talking to my dentist and she just asked me "does it hurt" and while I was answering she ripped it out. Took around 6 seconds for her to get it out. Actually had a very nice time there.
The other time took the dentist around a minute to take out and I was able to feel the tools deep in my jaw. Pretty fun as well but not as fun as the other time.
Going for my first surgery (1 out of 2) tomorrow and I'm 23

I've heard that wisdom teeth were something useful for people back in the old days, but people's jaws have gotten smaller and now we don't need them
Dentists will always tell you to get your wisdom teeth out cause they get a pay cheque. Not always do you actually need to get them taken out.
That is quite true. My mom and my older brother are both dentists (and somehow I became a mechanical engineer lol) and both said as long as the wisdom teeth doesn't cause us any issues and we get our teeth professionally checked-up and cleaned at most twice a year, we're good.
Wisdom teeth may be kept ONLY, if it’s enough space in the mouth for those to grow straight, not making other teeth crowded and if those are functional, meaning #16 touch #17 and # 1 touch #32, and all those work correctly when person chewing on the food.
To remove not useful wisdom teeth, better when you about 16- 18 years old, surgery is going to be easier and healing time will be shorter.

Quite frankly, I intend to keep mine until needed. Surgery of any kind makes me so anxious I'd rather not subject myself to it until it becomes an issue.
As long as you see a dentist for cleanings a couple times a year, this is the right call. They'll tell you if/when it's time.
The riskiest part of most surgeries is anesthesia, and if you're not nervous with the dentist you don't need general anesthesia for this. I just had local anesthesia for mine and it was a really easy procedure -- but of course that was my situation and others might need more extensive work to get theirs extracted.
But if you end up with a procedure like me, it was just getting my jaw/gums numbed up, holding my jaw gently-but-firmly by an assistant (I have TMJ issues and requested extra support,) and then after a couple minutes the tooth was out and they gave me some cotton pads to bite down on. There weren't any stitches, and this didn't even cause any TMJ or jaw pain afterwards (not even the following days.) Then I walked to the recovery room, got instructions for care and follow up, and walked out.
Honestly the worst part was dealing with food getting in the hole for a few weeks, but it healed without any infection nor other complications so I have no complaints.
I also got to keep the tooth which came out in one piece and looks kind of cool lol
I had the same plan but they randomly became unbearably painful. 2 months later and I got them removed. The recovery process isn’t too bad
Bruh i know in america they drug the fucks out of you to remove them but where i removed mine they just put a giant metal neddle for local anesthesia other them that i didnt feel shit it was pretty chill
@@watsonwroteLucky. I only had local anesthesia for mine too, but both my upper teeth took like 40minutes -1 hour to remove. I had to go take every 4 of them individually, I had the worst dry socket after removing both of the lower two, and they didn't even heal properly so I still have a bit of a hole in my gum. Worst part is that although they were "impacted" I never felt any pain whatsoever, the recovery for the surgery sure sucked though. Fucking dentists man.
DO NOT DO THAT. That will only make it worse. I was told by my dentist to get them out now then later because if you do what you are thinking of doing, it will only cause more infections more pain, and a higher chance of getting dry sockets. I got mine removed when I was not feeling any pain once so ever. I asked them why get them removed now and they told me the same reason I told you.

I just had my bottom left wisdom tooth pulled and all it took was a bit of prying, and 1 solid yank fron the tooth vice grip. Was maybe 5 minutes of actual extraction work, if even that much.

Dentists told me over and over I needed to get mine removed before they grew in. I mentioned that I had gaps in a lot of my teeth, so I should have lots of room. Dentists kept telling me that wasn't the case.
I let my wisdom teeth grow in, no issues occurred. I now get asked by dentists when I got braces (because my teeth are so straight now). I told them I didn't, I just let my wisdom teeth grow in.
And they STILL tell me I need to get my fully grown wisdom teeth removed.

just don't. I have mine and its great.
I’m 32 and just had mine taken out a few months ago. There was no pain afterward and I never needed prescription meds. I just took ibuprofen for the first day. But worst part was that my gums and cheeks were so swollen I literally could not close my mouth for 3 days. Chewing was impossible. I only ate scrambled eggs for 3 days. And I would have to kind of dump them into the back of my mouth and swallow them in bits because if I even attempted to let the eggs get moved around in my mouth; they would get stuck and clump up on my stitches .
Just go to dentist to get x ray, if it could damage other teeth, it would be better removed
@@crappiefisher13that’s great for your case, some people have crazy pain from there wisdom teeth just existing
I'm surprised that in america, there are so many people with molars problems.
Just keep in mind that your wisdom teeth can cause problems literally at any point. They can be safely ignored until they actually start causing a problem, but once they do, it is recommended to get them removed as soon as possible.
I did not have any problems with my wisdom teeth until i was 28. Then they started pushing their way out of my gums. Just felt slight pressure for a couple of weeks which i ignored. Then the molar in front of my bottom left wisdom tooth shattered while i was eating one day. Had to get that broken tooth pulled.
the other three weren't pushing through yet, so it was recommended to ignored them for the time being. so i did. 6 months later, all three impacted and caused extreme pain out of nowhere one day.
Had to deal with it for almost a week before i could get them pulled because they were infected. tooth pain is the worst pain i have ever had in my entire life. nothing else i've been through even compares.
So if you have any issues with your wisdom teeth, please do yourself a favor a setup an appointment with a dentist to get them pulled as soon as possible, before they become a real problem.
basically the same for me, but one wisdom tooth was too long and put some strain on the trigeminus nerve. took me and some doctors half a year to figure out that it wasnt something with my sinuses, brain cancer or a neuralgy...
Worst 6 months of my life, im only glad it happened during the first year of the pandemic so i at least wasnt really missing out on any social events...
So you’re saying that they weren’t actually through up until that point so it’s not any point. I had a lot of pain when mine were coming through over years but haven’t had any issues now they are it’s just the initial bit
I ignored my 2 bottom impacted one's although some teeth were shoving, I couldn't see it and it didn't bother me Until it did and I was in pain. My top ones were removed easily at 19 but the impacted ones at 31.
I got one out when I was 19 because it was impacting my gums ended up keeping the final three as they weren’t giving me any problems. Then fast forward to 28 my dentist recommended me that I should remove all three due to future decay and issues to which I agreed. Also very easy to clean my teeth since the wisdom teeth are gone.
yep i had all of mine removed before my second senor year of high school because my doctor said they could be the reason i was having episodes of black outs and very bad light headness that cause me to miss most of my first senor year because of them i got all three removed and no more black outs or bad light headness
I remember when I got mine removed, the doctor just numbed the hell out of my mouth and got all four of them removed in 15 minutes. No anesthesia. There was no pain at all throughout the process (except after the numbing wore off and my jaw was sore for a week and a half) but there was a lot of bleeding that eventually wore off in a day.
I had mine removed in my early thirties after I got more and more pain whilst chewing and I'm definitely glad I did in the end since I feel a lot better now.
I'm 18 and had my wisdom teeth for a good amount of years now and got no problem with them so far and hopefully it stays that way
Same, I am now 26 and wisdom teeth are still okay. My dentist told me as long as I take care and clean my teeth well then there's no possibility for future problems coz they grew compactly. No need of removal. And when it was growing i didn't notice pains. And i had wondered why I don't have wisdom tooth yet. 😅
It probably has since been a year since my wisdom teeth (upper) emerged, and hopefully no problems as well. I'm 22.
I'm 29 and never had any problem with my wisdom teeth. My dentist told me my wisdom teeth were very healthy but I could get them removed if I wanted to prevent a cavity from not taking care of them in the future 😅 I told them no thanks I'll just take care of them then
Got my wisdom tooth at 17
I have no wisdom teeth at all lol, I think it's for the best
I had an odd developing pain in the back of my left lower jaw. I thought it was a piece of food stuck in the gum like a chip or something. Over time, it got worse, and I was at a point where i said, "Enough is enough." This pesky chip or whatever food that's stuck in there is coming out! So after a while, I managed to pull out what appeared to be a round black stone with a sandpaper like texture. It was about the size and shape of an apple seed. But like I said, it was hard as a stone. The gum eventually healed, and my dentist asked me if I had a wisdom tooth removed. I said no, and he said, "Well, you seem to be missing one." I told him about the odd stone I pulled out, and he came to the conclusion (that I also suspected was the case) that my mouth must have rejected an undeveloped tooth that was causing an infection. It's insane how our bodys can identify issues and eliminate them.
Why did you not go to the dentist in the first place, when it started hurting? You are Lucy nothing got wrong, next time you feel pain or something go to see a doctor first
@sandralison7584 Agreed. But at that time, I was younger, jobless, and didn't have the means to get the money to pay for a sudden emergency dentist appointment. If you’re watching this because you have a procedure coming up and maybe it’s your first surgery: I was also in the same boat. I was 20 and needed them removed since on the xray the bottom set were about to impact my molars (not good). I went into surgery nervous as hell, they sedated me and I fell asleep and what felt like mere seconds later I was awake again and the whole extraction was over. You’ll probably get some nice pills to compliment the pain, it’ll be annoying for the first couple days when it comes to dealing with the gauze and changing your eating patterns for just a temporary bit, but after then you’ll be just fine. You can do it I know you can! Listen to your dentist/wisdom tooth professional and you’ll get through it so fast
For some, the bleeding stops relatively quickly. I know mine did. For the first day, limit your physical activity. Even walking made me feel like I was about to throw up.
One dentist tryed a scam on me. He showed a fake x-ray that was supposed to be mine that showed both bottom wisdom teeth sideways just like yours. I got mine removed when I was about 23. My mom had great insurance from her job and I was on her dental and health plan till I turned 26.
I never had problems but had the opportunity to have them removed at a relatively low cost.
Because of this, I don’t agree with your comment at all. If you have the opportunity to remove them at minimal financial burden then maybe that’s the best thing to do. I could have turned 26 or older and started to have problems which would have cost me thousands of dollars to have removed
Wisdom teeth can cause problems at any time. Not just when they are coming out thru the gums
Also, if you do not get the removed when you are young the risk of complications and recovery are increased. For instance my father’s wisdom teeth were fine until he turned 60 then they got infected and started moving into his other molars, which is apparently not uncommon as you get older, he had to get them out and couldn’t eat for a month. I got mine out a year later and after 3 days could eat normally again.

@@Biscuitsgravy924 no that's incredibly dumb. You just removed a good set of teeth that needed 0$ of work on them. You removed them solely because it would be cheaper to remove them now than get them removed in the future. But your logic is flawed because you didn't need to get them removed at all.

Am recovering from my final tooth operation, hopefully the last. 4 teeth removed.
2 wisdom, 2 above it.
One impacted, the other not.
Went through a lot of pain and even an infection.
Also learnt a lot about taking care of my oral health as a whole.
Wish I knew earlier, but I believe my teeth will be better in the future as I apply what I learnt properly.
Most people dont need to remove them but dentists do it anyways to charge more money

I still have mine at 33. I'll never forget when the dentist took x-rays when they were growing in and told me im in the percentile of ppl whose wisdom teeth grew in completely aligned and straight. No problems or complications still till this day.
sure thats nice to hear. mine told me that I'd need them removed at some point but they grew and I never had any issues. i dont think theyre prefectly aligned but it just works!
That’s how it’s naturally supposed to be.
Can I ask you a couple more questions about that, I’m a dental student doing a project…
The biggest flex is all four growing in perfectly but a cavity forms in one because you can’t reach all the way back there so now you have to see an oral surgeon and the pain is worse than child birth (hehe I hate life)
No don't remove if you can help it , wisdom teeth are more inclined to the heart and helps fight more infections in the body and the immune system more
When I was in the military I had to get all 4 removed and it was done in one sitting. It was one of the worst pains of my life and was difficult to eat for weeks. But at least I'll never have to worry about them again.
I had all 4 of mine done in one sitting at a civilian dentist (not in the military is what I'm trying to say). $1,100. Not exactly painful because I had them give me an extra 5 minutes than usual for each numbing phase to ensure I couldn't feel anything. Minimal pain. I must've drooled 2 pints of blood, but I was ready for that. The thing I was told to watch for was dry socket... and I used a Waterpik at the lowest pressure setting to clean them out. Eating was still difficult.
Same. Ibuprofen and hydrate for recovery
why did you need to get 4 of them removed?
Yup evolution sucks 😂 like come on man get rid of your past mistakes “evolution” I’m tired of wisdom teeth and a weird looking pinky toe 😂
I had to get all 4 of mine removed when I was 13, it wasn't too bad but they did give me too much anesthesia.
My bottom tooth wasn’t sewed up. He kind of just left the hole. But the top one was, and it was the most ANNOYING thing.
I had mine poorly stitched and fell out earlier than they were supposed to. Got a case of dry socket that took forever to heal without stitches because the dentist office that did it never answered my calls.
They only stitched my bottom 2, just left the top as open wounds I guess? Everything healed perfectly fine though
I only had one stitched because in order to extract it the surgeon needed to cut my gums and drill the bone around the tooth a bit. The other 3 came straigh out and didn't need stitching
The extraction and the healing period is like being in a relaxing sauna compared to the pain of having those molars.
When the dentist removed mine, it was the worst pain I ever felt in my life. Even with a dose of anesthesia. It was when I realized how strong teeth pain could be.
I’m 21 and so far my wisdom teeth actually aren’t bothering me in anyway. They sorta just there😅

Mine too but I'm fine
I had mine removed a year ago, ended up with a jawbone infection that was extremely painful but no one knew where the source of the pain was for 2 months, got the infection removed in February. Had to have iv antibiotics until April. I ended up with trigeminal neuralgia from it and my nerve was bruised. My lip is still tingly a year later. I’m on a relatively high dose of nerve medication but could be on more, but it makes me super tired and I wouldn’t be able to function. I’m going to say, although against the recommendation of the video, don’t get wisdom teeth removed unless you need to, especially if you already have chronic illnesses and are immunocompromised.
Jeez, sounds like you had a really rough experience. I got all 4 of mine removed back in July. It was an extremely smooth and painless process. I didn’t even have any swelling.

Had two removed and I’m holding out fine. Only took pain meds, used frozen peas if needed, changed the gauze, and seeing the vids and post op ones really helps
The only reason we have to have them removed is because of our soft diets. Our jaws used to be larger and longer which is why the teeth are there in the first place.
we have them as an extra set because they would take the place of teeth that were lost, or would be there for future tooth loss. it wouldn’t make sense for them to come in so later on in life if we had enough room for them when we were 13/14 because our jaws (with your logic) would be about fully developed and would technically have room for them.

Meanwhile, I have to get mine surgically removed because the roots are so deep that they're touching nerves.
My wisdom teeth oddly actually straightened my teeth out more
I had all four removed at the same time, and I was awake for it. All I can say is that I was in so much pain before, but after the surgery things have been great, the feeling so completely gone. Don't be afraid of getting it done. They numb your gums so you feel absolutely nothing. And the relief from the pain is well worth it
My brother did also remove all 4 of them and he's only 16 . Even the doctors were astounded by his attitude - completely calm and collected .
Mine were fused to the jawbone and the dentist shattered all 4 of them during the extraction resulting in an emergency surgical removal of the pieces with shards left in my gums which worked their way out later.
I also had mine all 4 removed at the same time, but I went onto minor surgery with full anae, so I wasn't awake. I had the other option to be awake, but they can only remove 2 at a time.

in the old times our jawbones were longer and thicker so the wisdom tooth came in with no problems
@@JoeMama-mw1ibIt depends. Mine came in normal, the only time I ever have a issue is with sensitivity to hot and cold liquids sometimes but my wisdom teeth all 4 came in like normal. Wisdom teeth only should be removed if they are impacted and or infected. Removing them is not risk free like many dentists say. People can suffer nerve damage and other side effects so it depends.
Many of us today allowed wisdom teeth to grow. Just because you can't handle some pain it doesn't mean the rest of the world shares your weakness
Tooth loss was normal so they would have plenty of room to push the remaining teeth out the way
As my wisdom tooth appeared , my gums were overlapping the teeth and it hurt when I chew but the pain was kinda satisfying too. Then one day I got so fed up , took a blade and tore the extra flap of gum. Never felt better
Glad mine came in with no problems
My wisdom teeth all came through just fine, however the top left one was hurting me, I went to the dentist they said I have to get it removed. I was waiting for the appointment but then the pain eventually went away. So I ended up not getting it removed and now it doesn't cause me an issue. (Hopefully it remains that way)
trust me the pain will come back and probably be 100x worse 😭😩
Mine caused me pain for 3days straight twice, but after the last pain, it didn't cause anymore problems. I kinda just endured the pain.
You can wait, however it will most likely come back, last february I needed to have one of my wisdom teeth extracted, I could feel the pain in both upper and lower part of my jaw so I was unsure which tooth it was. It was the lower left wisdom tooth, and yes, I had a couple days of slight toothache a couple of times before it randomly started hurting 3-5x more and wouldn't stop.
I am currently re-experiencing it just on my right side now and will most likely need to extract another one on Monday when the dentist opens, I'm just hoping I won't overdose on Ibuprofen until then.
Did it hurt only during eruption or after? Because if it hurt after, the tissue inside, including the nerve, was dying. Now with the nerve dead it doesn't hurt anymore. But it is still decaying and the decay can spread to your jawbone. Get it removed.
You were possibly teething, they don’t push through the gums immediately it takes a bit of time like your baby teeth did, so that aching might have been you slowly wearing away the gums above the tooth until it had the room to push out

Mine were fine until I was 24 when they moved very suddenly and ruined all the hard work I'd done through braces and retainers. The dentist also suspected they were worsening my tmj disorder. The recovery was long and painful but it was worth being pain free in the long run.
