Your face can my numb anywhere from 2 hours to 12 (I’m currently on my 12th hour...) and that’s all I have to offer. This was just my personal experience, it might be a little different for you, but I hope it goes as well as mine did. It’s actually nothing to worry about, if you’re panicking! It’s literally just some gas (dRuGs), a funny shot, a nap, and some discomfort for a few days (and a whole lot of ice cream and Mac and cheese). Don’t worry about it!
3 days later and yeah, my face is super puffy and aching. I take two pills every six hours and have ice on constantly. I just ate cheesecake for supper...
UPDATE: Ten days after the procedure and things are basically normal. I ate chicken tenders at A&W with no problems. The days prior, my face had swelled up until I looked like Jimmy Neutron--borderline Carl Wheezer. I was putting ice on my face almost all the time which I _assume_ helped, but it was really hard to tell for sure. The coolness felt nice at least. The swelling and the pain got better on day 7, significantly better on day 8 and it's back to normal by 10. My cheeks were yellow for a while though (the last 3 days), like someone had smeared a highlighter on my cheeks and rubbed it around. (Bruising.) I'm not on any more ibuprofen (or perscribed antibiotics) since there really isn't much real pain besides a bit of ache-y discomfort that migrates around the bone near the surgery sites. It's weird, like one day the bottom right hurts, then the bottom left, and today it's the upper right. Definitely and easily tolerable. The only complications I had were just kanker sores, and that just runs in my family. They were particularly bad back near the sites. I'll make one more update on they day I feel completely normal again, until then, I'm open for q and a.
Am I the only one who doesn't care if it's bloody? Like, they're literally cutting and removing an object stuck in your gums. Obviously it's going to be bloody
I don't know why this procedure in America involves using anesthesia that makes people almost high. In my country, dentists apply local anesthesia with a shot, and the patients feel no pain nor do they say funny things as if they were high on something.
Lol. One of mine is coming in right now. It’s coming in like a normal tooth tho. No pain at all. I’ll still have to get them removed tho cause I only got them on the top.
My Boyfriend is getting his bottom wisdom tooth out hopefully today he's in so much he said, he can barely sleep because the pain so he took a ibuprofen 800 so he can not feel no pain for a few hours
Here's a question for the ages: Why are they called Wisdom Teeth if they're not smart enough to grow in properly? Edit: Holy shit I didn't expect this to blow up so much
My sister and I got our four wisdom teeth removed back-to-back on the same day. No doubt other patients in the hospital were wondering what happened to us when we both walked out with our heads bandaged up. Surprisingly uneventful procedure and no adverse affects from the anesthetic afterwards. Although I do remember waking up and my eyes were pointing in totally different directions, it was trippy but a minute later and I was back to normal.
Advice for y’all getting your wisdom teeth out: take their instructions on what to not eat VERY SERIOUSLY. DONT EAT OR DRINK STUFF WITH SEEDS OR OTHER TINY THINGS. I ate raspberry yogurt without realizing there were seeds and it got stuck in the holes in my gums and they had to go back in and flush it out with olive oil or something, tasted like crap and hurt really bad and was really gross.
Angelo's World not like with a blade or anything but they had to shove those blunt plastic syringes filled with some kinda liquid way deep into the holes in my gums, kinda widening them again and setting back my recovery lol
I never been through the procedure but if I was to and scared of that I would ask for extra numbing and then if you end up spilling them they won't understand you. It will just be a lot of drool and wablahwahaha
I just had all 4 of mine removed a few days ago and it all went very well. Didn’t really hurt at all until the third and fourth day. Excruciating pain that even pain medication didn’t help with but now I’m feeling perfectly fine and it’s healing well.
Dentist: “You ready?” Patient: “no” Dentist: “Yeah, me neither” Patient: “What?” Dentist: “I’m sure you’ll be fine.” Edit: Gonna be getting my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow. @@xindixinxindi you also get another pair of molars around 12 after the rest of your teeth grow in lol. It might just be those, not wisdom teeth. I remember thinking they were wisdom teeth at that age too
Why is it called a wisdom tooth if it can't even navigate it's way out of the gums? More like unwise tooth Edit: every known idiot says this, but I really do appreciate the likes. Thanks.
Because that erupts between 18-23 years of age (when person becomes adult), probably because when they get adult they get their wisdom (the tooth coming in the same time when they are getting mature)
Muffin Puff that’s too early eruption. That might be a 2nd molar not 3rd molar (wisdom teeth) I believe. Usually that erupts between 18-23 years or later. If you got 3rd molar by 12 than that’s too quick growth. Your growth spurt is too early than normal population.
@@dogethegreat3866 That's the part of the procedure that you won't really feel tho, what hurts most is once the anesthesia wears off and you'll feel like your whole jaw has been cracked open
@@otakuismybae2700 It depends, I'm no dentist but based on what my dentist explained to me back then the pain doesn't come from the teeth or the gums itself because the anesthesia numbs the nerves. However, if there was an existing infection somewhere around the tooth already, that's where it will feel painful. When I got my tooth removed (3 simultaneously) I didn't feel anything other than one with an infection even tho I was under lots of anesthesia (my whole mouth basically xD) because they had to remove 3 of my tooth simultaneously.

@@NhanNguyen-du3cr I'm guessing but since primitive us didn't do dental care, probably some of our teeth would have become rotten or fallen out, so this very large, late growing tooth that comes out at an odd angle was evolutions way of coping with tooth decay.
it actually isnt that bad, I had mine removed a few months ago and it only really hurt the day after. Even then it didnt really hurt that bad. You just gotta wash out your gums everyday so it dont get infected
Here is a painfull story, when my dad got his wisdom teeth removed, around the late 80s, one of them was not only unable to erupt but was also on a very difficult position to extract, even after spliting it in half, but also got its roots were deformed like claws firmly attaching it to the jaw making it even more difficult. It took the dentist around 6 hours to remove the damn thing and unsurprisingly he was in pain for weeks. We still keep the damn tooth and its a sight to behold.
@@kikiunicornzrules it's not that bad tbh. That's only like extraordinary cases. At most you actually feel pain for a day or two. After that not really.
My dad nearly died from wisdom teeth extraction. Either some loose tooth fragments were there or he wasn't given anti-biotics, he went septic and had to be put in a medically induced coma. They then did some kind of surgery where they had to go in through his neck so he has this big scar on his neck that make him look like his head got half way ripped off then healed. It's pretty metal.
I'm a retired dentist. Excellent explanation and animation. Glad you didn't show complex extraction. I wouldn't show this to patients, unless they specifically requested to see how it is done. Our jawbones, were much longer, thousands of years ago, alowing for space or normal eruption.
My sibling got their wisdom teeth removed around 1 or 2 years ago. During the car ride home they saw some fat bearded guy walking to a gas station and they said "hey look it's Santa Claus, look at him, he's so happy!" That shit immediately made my day and I burst out laughing
@@deskseven I can say I am an outlier to that info. I am 14 and have my wisdom teeth. Honestly this is the first year I got pain from them and it didn't even last a day.
For all of you who are afraid of this procedure: 95% of the time during the operation nothing does hurt (if the doctor does everything right). It just feels absolutely weird and uncomfortable. But afterwards it is really disgusting: it hurts, you spit blood all the time and you can't really eat anything. Cool your cheeks, so they don't swell too big. But after like 3 to 4 days, the pain becomes less, and after a week you can (hopefully) eat normal again.

@@entropy7888 Thanks for the insight, wishing you a speedy recovery! Having mine removed in about two weeks.
How many you got removed ? I'm getting 4 removed and I got 8 hours till the surgery.
@@Skull_838 Sorry I'm late to reply, but I got all four of mine out.
So Wisdom teeth are basically serial killers trying to kill the normal teeth

Will do
You mean they cut your gums again to remove the stuck seed
Angelo's World not like with a blade or anything but they had to shove those blunt plastic syringes filled with some kinda liquid way deep into the holes in my gums, kinda widening them again and setting back my recovery lol

Because that erupts between 18-23 years of age (when person becomes adult), probably because when they get adult they get their wisdom (the tooth coming in the same time when they are getting mature)

Ramya & sasi I got mine at 12-😭
Muffin Puff that’s too early eruption. That might be a 2nd molar not 3rd molar (wisdom teeth) I believe. Usually that erupts between 18-23 years or later. If you got 3rd molar by 12 than that’s too quick growth. Your growth spurt is too early than normal population.

It's pretty metal.
