      If you are struggling with focus, then get diagnosed to see if it really is ADHD. There are so many reasons getting diagnosed will improve your quality of life - and not just because you would have the option of using meds to help your symptoms. But if you don’t get diagnosed - Stop saying you have undiagnosed ADHD! Instead just say you have trouble with focus.

For now, I just bought the same Karlby top, Alex 5 drawer and a two drawer setup to get started as my everyday office table. Also bought a preowned Steelcase leap v2 chair which has been a deal changer.

    Love you Chris… can we go another level deeper and just say the desk doesn’t make you more creative. It may eliminate pain points or barriers to your productivity or creativity but the reason you feel more creative is because you changed something; and that change plays to your preferences and wiring. Thus creating more stimulus and resulting in creativity.
    Not a slam. Just reality

    Second and 3rd ones dont even have to be crazy expensive. if the main one is good you can use it for all the color critical work and have the second and 3rd one for Photoshop or premier tools or email or a list or spreadsheet or whatever you need.

    Instead of the Ikea Karlby, I would go to lowes or home depot and buy a butcher block top. It's real wood through and through, and sometimes it's cheaper. I bought a 48x24 acacia wood that was already stained for like $129, and I mounted it to an Ikea Idasen standing desk and I love it.

    • @gregorymoore2877
      @gregorymoore2877 Рік тому +2

      I looked at Home Depot and Lowes myself. Lowes had the acacia listed on their site in the size I wanted (60"x30") for about $160, but they were never in stock. Also, you have to order online which means some delivery service has to bring it to you. A significant portion of reviews on the product mentioned scratches, dents, and splits in the wood. The one I liked from Home Depot had very few reviews at all and could only be ordered online, if it were in stock. I paid a little extra and went for the Karlby as I was more confident about getting a undamaged, quality product from Ikea that's ready to go out of the box. The ones from Home Depot and Lowes seemed to require the customer to apply the polyurethane sealant themselves.

    • @plasmamuffinsgaming
      @plasmamuffinsgaming Рік тому

      @@gregorymoore2877 Mine was completely finished and good quality, no scratches or dings and has 63 reviews. However, I just checked and now they want $319 for the exact same “Hardwood Reflections” one I bought for $129 soooo yeah I would just go with the Karlby. It’s veneer which means it’s particleboard at the center, but I mean for the price it’s okay. I just went with the butcher block because it was cheaper at the time and much better quality.

    Here's another way to protect your desk surface. You could get a large leather desk pad big enough for mouse and keyboard. Your wrists would rest on the leather instead of the wood. That way you wouldn't have to take your watch off. I recommend real leather as it wlil patina over time. Brown or black would look good with the Karlby and space gray Apple mouse and keyboard. If you don't like leather, I hear wool works well too.

    IKEA sells other table tops that are the same dimensions, look nearly the same but are a fraction of the price. I guess lower quality wood or whatever, but it doesn't matter for the end result. I would encourage drilling a steel rail middle underneath for support and to prevent any bend.

    Just completed a similar setup, if you want to save over $100 you can get the saljan countertop at ikea for around $70. Looks just as nice but more of a oak finish.

    • @gregorymoore2877
      @gregorymoore2877 Рік тому

      I looked at the Saljan myself. Beware that while the Karlby is solid wood (particle board with walnut veneer) the Saljan uses a paper honeycomb structure inside. It's very rigid, but can only take so much weight. Also the surface is laminate which it is reported can scratch easily. If you still want to save a little, you can get the Karlby with oak or birch veneer which are both less expensive than the walnut. And the oak veneer still looks really nice.

    • @Triannosaurus
      @Triannosaurus Рік тому +1

      @@gregorymoore2877 not sure where your getting this info and speaking so confident about it. Saljan does not use paper honeycomb… it uses compressed particle board with a top layer of Wood veneer which is much much sturdier. You are thinking of the linnmon countertop. I have drilled into the saljan and and made a standing desk with, it is holding my 3 monitors just fine. it is very sturdy

    • @Triannosaurus
      @Triannosaurus Рік тому

      @@gregorymoore2877 the karlby is also not compressed particle board it is solid wood which is why it’s more expensive. You’re getting you info all mixed up my friend. Take a second look please

    • @gregorymoore2877
      @gregorymoore2877 Рік тому +1

      @@Triannosaurus You may be correct about the Saljan being particle board since it is intended as a counter top. Ikea's product description is a little ambiguous. However it is laminate and I did see a review on UA-cam that says it scratches easily. I don't believe the Karlby is solid wood. I just got one and drilling into it myself, it seems more like particle board. I did a UA-cam video comparing the Karlby with a solid wood butcher block where they cut into both of them and I'm pretty sure they said the Karlby is particle board. If it was solid wood, why would they add the veneer? Ikea had a solid wood butcher block. It was called the Gerton. I've seen it reviewed on UA-cam a swell. The Gerton has been discontinued for a while now.
