  • Dating Essentials for Men is the latest title from renowned therapist Dr. Robert Glover.
Dr. Glover is the author of the men's development classic, No More Mr. Nice Guy. You might remember him from Episode 17 of this podcast.
I was privileged to catch up with Dr. Glover once again to talk about his new book.
In today's episode of Humans in Love, Dr. Glover and I discuss Dating Essentials for Men, men's work in 2019, the importance of finding a good coach, how to be "authentic," essential ingredients for success in #dating and life, the Jordan Peterson phenomenon, the "#manosphere," what Dr. Glover has learned about making #marriage work, how he survived #divorce, and much more.
One of my favourite conversations so far. Hope you enjoy.

Robert: (quoting his ex): "Now that we're married, don't you think it's good we don't have to pretend to like sex anymore."
Zachary: (imagining what marriage is like) "Oh god, no!"

You are right. A Dominican friar monk wrote the original story. Then Shakespeare picked it up to point out the same point that the Dominican monk. Love is not a feeling. And the price of it can be seen in the story of Romeo and Juliet.

Target group obviously American. As a Dutch woman I don't do mixed signals. And, yes, I do find authenticity, being real and the humour that goes with it a huge turn on. (Too) smooth does the exact opposite.

I love Robert glover but never make decisions based on emotions especially when it comes to marriage. You would think a guy whose on his 3rd marriage would know that by now

I’m surprised at Dr Glover’s insensitivity regarding the issues underlying why women feel the need for movements such as feminism and me too. There are power dynamics in modern society that are not healthy for men or women. Brushing off sexual harassment and inequalities as the concern of angry lesbians is alarming.

I can see how he came across as insensitive, but I don't believe he is. I've listened to many of his interviews and have a reasonable understanding of his ideas. In latter years he focuses on men's issues, much less women's. In a short interview like this he can only give so much time to each topic and hasn't, for you, done justice to this one.

Look at his previous interviews he commended on feminism and women's rights.
