White Rabbit in a guitar magazine Elliot showed the solo. Appently he used a tele for the first part of the solo and a les paul for the second bit. Agree the cameraman should be shot, with shit.
@@raylaws8242 Actually, the guitar "trade-off" was in "Shake It Up". What was cool about the "Tonight She Comes" solo was that Steve Vai transcribed it for Guitar Player Magazine for an article about Elliot in the 80's. (I'm a Cars nerd. Sorry.).
Little did any of us know 1984-5 was going to be the peak of their popularity between the album "Heartbeat City" (singles Drive, You Might Think, Magic, Heartbeat City) and the single Tonight She Comes that came afterwards. One more album in 1987 (Door to Door) that Ric produced with smaller hits like You Are The Girl and Leave or Stay, then the breakup and reconstitution in the 2010s with two more hits - Sad Song and Blue Tip which intentionally with Jacknife Lee producing both recreated their best selling style of music. Back in the 80s this was one of my favorite.
I saw this show in NYC Madison Garden. This is what launched my (to this day) obsession with synthesizers. I always thought it was weird they had those guys on forklifts driving around the whole show in the background. 😂😂
This band was terrific. Innovative and exciting. This song is a masterpiece. There were multiple cameras covering each player. Why did the Producer not show Elliot playing his brilliant solo until the last few bars?
I wrote an article about this song and the solo for my Benjamin Orr blog, if you're interested: sweetpurplejune.wordpress.com/2017/03/11/tonight-she-comes/
SInce I didnt' get to see this tour when it happened (too young/not allowed to go to concerts by myself yet), what is the big "thing" moving around kind of behind the band?
It was a big robot thing. The Cars were sometimes maligned for a lack of a live show--which boggles my mind today, but I think many folks back then wanted "We love you, Omaha (or wherever) and dry ice and lasers and other stuff. When I look back at these videos and others from groups that I like (and sometimes saw), I realize how great The Cars really were in concert and how truly lousy some other acts were at recreating their sound in a live environment, and wonder if those other groups didn't create the stage antics to distract from that.
The guitar solo is amazing ,
Elliot Easton! Right-handed player who plays with his left hand ua-cam.com/video/xTVzRfZEiAM/v-deo.html
Amen!
My favorite guitar solo of all time
Same
He smashes it here....amazing
Im agree with you 🤙🏻
ME2!since mid80's.
Reminds me of “Too Many Cooks”
One of their best songs. Great guitar solo!
To be a fly on the wall when they were writing- so much musical talent from each member...
Es q' Elliot Easton es amazing
Elliott!
Elliote Easton, guitar wizard ...
This song has a special meaning for me...it always reminds me of a special young lady that I dated during that period.....
This song is so great. It could have been a #1 Billboard Top 100 hit with Ben vocals, imo.
They will always be favorite of all time
That's exactly why I'm viewing this!
Seguiran siendo enormes!
One of the best solos in the history of pop music and what do they do? They show Ocasek, Hawkes and Robison. And just a little bit of Easton.
I was just going to write the same thing. In the official music video, they show Ocasek playing air guitar more than they show Easton. Pathetic.
I think they thought Ric was gonna do the dance

Probably a union cameraman who never heard of The Cars.
Holy shitttt i love this songgggg.........
These guys are awesome!
No one has ever seen a full Elliot Easton solo because every video Director and Editor
thinks Ric Ocasek did everything.
I always chalked it up to lack of knowledge of music in general by these video directors. Hire people who get it.
Elliot Easton is so terribly underrated.
Agreed. Taken for granted even by the camera man.
Not by guitar players
@@jloomyThat's exactly what I was thinking
UNA CANCION PARA ELEVAR EL LIBIDO, CON THE CARS!!!! SHE COME'S TONIGTH. EXELLENTE SONG.
Rip Rick Ocasek
Brilhante, brilhante, BRILHANTE!!!
