Some ppl don't like it when I mention musical details, but I have to say, this song's a trip, in terms of musical arrangement. For the main theme, Ric plays arpeggios of C major to A minor. But Elliot just chugs along on a C power chord (C and G - called "C5" or "C(no3rd)") throughout both changes. And then there's Ben's bass line, which plays C for the C chord, but E to D for the A minor chord. So, for the 2nd chord we simultaneously have 3 different roots between Ric, Elliot, and Ben. Wild!
I’m “discovering” The Cars well after their heyday...but, MAN, can these guys play! I underestimated their abilities when they were in their prime, but am coming to appreciate their brilliant musicianship now. First...as a keyboardist, I am in awe of Elliot Easton’s solo. I would’ve sworn that it was Greg Hawkes on the Synth! But the guitar part from Easton at the end is nothing short of brilliant! I love the way that he starts the guitar run at the end much lower than the previous ones. And plays with the tempo on his final solo piece. You’d expect Hawkes to fire off a detailed part underneath the music; instead, he plays a 5 note, separated bit part. While adding a percussive part as well. Orr’s bass part is also basic...it adds to the tension of the song. Less is more here.
This song was my jam back in the day, now it's hard to watch knowing Ben & Ric are gone. :( :( :( :( RIP Sweet Angels, thanks for all the memories, I'll keep them alive through your music. 🕊🌹
EPIC! Complex tune! One of their greatest! Greg's intro is a gorgeous unexpected treat. I love Ric's voice, always on this song. It's perfect. And listen to the crowd respond to Benjamin after the song ends, "Thank you!" and they cheer and roar, "Thank you very much" and they cheer louder, and then "YAAAAAH" and they go wild!! ~~~~~~~~~~ and holy shit, 1:37 !!! sorry....:) "i can't help it." ~ must be a 'leg man'. 😈
Wow -- such a great clip, and NO comments? Do I really get to make the first one? 1. I never realized Ric plays the arpeggio part. I always thought that was Elliot, and Ric was doing his usual "click, click-a, click, click-a". I find the arpeggio part a little difficult. 2. I like watching Greg lately. He always seems to be having so much fun, and he never tries to hide it or act "cool" or "aloof". He's the original "out and proud" nerd! Thanks for posting, Debbie!
Ben had a great voice. But for that particular song.In the video when he says when it comes to tenderness.I think if you watch that part of the video you will know what i mean.Ben has a better voice i think but rics fits this song

Ben Culture Yes it is. The Bass sounded diferent. I love the way how these music is driving.
All O know is that I play guitar and they're great and I suck!
And that's why they were a superior band. Tunes dissected and highly produced for the greatest effect
Great comment! I think it is the only song fingerpicked by Ric, isn't it? He even uses a thumb pick.

I was there and it was amazing......😎
Fuck me but I miss the 80's
One of the few bands who tried to recreate the studio sound live. Very talented musicians. Great band.
In memory of Ric Okasek and Benjamin Orr. This song should have been a Top-40 hit.
Absolutely. One of my favorites
I've been to many of concerts in my 54yrs of life, but I've never seen the cars😢
ТАЛАНТЫ ВСЕ. МОЛОДЦЫ РЕБЯТА! 👌👌🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮2023г.
RIP, Ric... thanks for the memories. :'(

I love this, makes me sad I agree Ric singing this is perfect! And then Always Always Ben in all ways!
Ah, yea, 1:37 mmmmmm.....
They still sounded great, but this was their last tour. So sad.
Love the vid for this song
love this song, used to play it all the time
Benjamin was at his hottest in the mid 1980s!
My thoughts exactly, no doubt Ben was always perfect but definitely best mid 80s.
Very nice intro by Greg. That's quite unusual as they pretty much always played the songs as in the record.
Ohhh I love it more today than I did in the 80's. Will always be a favorite ❤
amazing how each new album release surpassed prior in their innovation...

Greg is a really good musician, like they all are.
RIP Ric!
Wow this is incredible
Beautiful
Couldn't be better
Great band!!
I wonder how this would would have sounded if Ben sang it...

I would have to agree 100%. I love this recording! Although it was at their end, they sounded as butiful as ever!
I would have LOVED for Benjamin Orr Electric Angel Rock and Roller to have sung this, no disrespect to Ric
Late to the party here but I think Ric’s quirky way of singing works better for this song, especially as it goes for the video.
It would have sounded great. Not taking anything from Ric but Benjamin had the best vocals.
Great video. I like these treasures! What a band!
Amazing
I love this
Fav Cars song
Thanks for posting this Debbie....This is awesome. :)
🎶Since your gone🎶
Wow great job with the camera. Love this song.
I wonder why elliot doesn't use an e-bow during the solo? Sounds like he used one in the original release.
You're welcome! :)
This still gets me emotionel.. Emo for short.
** 5 * Stars ** Cars
Never heard this live before. Why does David have a microphone if he never sings backing vocals?
Did the Psychedelic Furs open for them on this tour?
What a Show that would of Been. 2 great s
Snubbed yet again by the Hall of Fame 😈
