- ‘Liquid Death’ is making canned water a thrilling alternative to plastic.

Once hailed as a miracle invention to make the most essential of liquids more portable, plastic water bottles are now a major liability with more than 40 billion of them wasted each year in the U.S.
It’s estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans, so beverage companies are starting to look for environmentally-friendly alternatives. One of the latest, and most surprising, is canned water.
The problem is, consumers have been slow to catch on to drinking water in a can. Can better marketing solve it?
One bold company known as Liquid Death is working to shift consumer mindsets toward canned water, and they’re doing it through radically imaginative marketing that is frightening to some, but quite entertaining to most.
In January 2019, Liquid Death made its first sale online and since then, has already become the most popular water brand on social media.

Do you think this approach could work for other products?
It's basically 50/50
This idea worked because it is crazy enough to work can't say for other products
Yes.
Yes give it a good name and the idiots will come running
Not really it depends on the brand
Try selling dehydrated water and save on shipping costs. Somebody will buy it.
that's some dry humor😆
😅
There are already multiple brands on the market that sells "hydration" powders that claims to make your water more hydrating.
They already sell canned oxygen 😆
Salvatore Garau sold an "invisible sculpture" (read: nothing) for 18,000 dollars so I guess the idea is not far fetched
Saw this in a 7 Eleven about a month ago. Definitely caught my attention enough to read the can and then buy a couple. The water was pretty tasty. Wife didn’t like our son drinking out of the can because it kinda looked like an 11 y/o drinking a beer.
Now kids will start drinking water from a beer can for the clot too and the brand exposure continues
Ah yes because someone not understanding that multiple different drinks come in cans would be bad for you
i was drinking out of a KEG at 11.
thats exactly why is so good, now stores can be like hey wanna try this cool new drink and the children will be like omg this is the drinks the grownup drink from
The looks i get too terrible
It so stupidly amazing! Like, damn, this brand is basically just Mountain water with a stereotypical Heavy Metal sheet over it, yet it feels so right that my cognative dissonance breaks in confused agreement.
🤣
Right👍🏻its just water. Well...mountain water packaged in a cool can. I drank a can of swiss mountain air for $15. Even more useless, i couldn't tell the difference. Hahaha Just funny that we get interested in wasting money on useless things.🤧
@@hlaminto2008 its mountain water? i thought it was tapped🛁 lol did you yodel after you ingested the mountain air? Yodelleeeheehooo📣💜
@@skywalktriceiam nah...it taste more like nothing, got no vibe by breathing it? Hahahah. Like why did i buy this again? The trick is in the can. It looks cool and everyone just wants to try it. But its just that, nothing special. $10 a can anyone? Draw a nude woman on a can, name it nude water? Anyone interested?
Must consoom
I've never had water out of a can. I'll give it a shot if I can find it locally. 😎👍
There are coconut water brands out there that mostly have water in cans and not plastic bottles
If anything cans are actually way worse for the environment. Look up how much energy goes into making a single soda can.
Look, the guy’s got his hustle and I’m sure he’s making good money. But he’s talking total BS on the environmental point, which is the whole idea behind the company. I guess if you can fool enough people you can make it rich...
@@eyeborg3148 are you talking about the climate impact in terms of energy production for melting aluminum? If that's the case then the issue is not related to aluminum cans itself, the issue is related to our means of energy production which can be 100% renewable with solar and nuclear even today but because of politics it won't be at least for a few decades.
@@eyeborg3148 I'll pass on anything called Liquid Death.
@@pseudoki “if we had a 100% renewable grid”. Well the current grid is far from 100% renewable, and this guy is making cans with the current grid, directly causing lots of pollution.
If he really cared about the environment he’d encourage people to drink tap water. It’s really just yet another overpriced hipster water with a faux environmentalist argument behind it.
Got to respect the hustle though, I’m sure he makes good money.
🤘🏻🤣Should sell it at rock concerts, if they ever start up again!
they are. i'm going to see phish five times in august.
Haha idk where you live or anything but Tons and tons of concerts have been going on for months now
lol there has been probably 100+ shows by now
They’re selling them at concert venues here in Florida 😂
They do, all the music festivals have this as the only water
I've always wanted to pay concert prices for water without the concert
its also the fact youre not drinking out of bpa plastic which i dont mind paying the price difference to not drink plastic particals
😂😂😂😂
@@AstralHiGH I hate to be the one to break it to you but the inside of aluminium cans are lined with plastic...so you are actually drinking out of plastic
KnotFest 2021
Paid $8 For a Bottle Of Aquafienda
A 4 slice Pizza $22
Yesterday I Paid $1.80 for a Can of Liquid Death at 7/11
Maybe my math is off Seems like the LD was Cheaper
@@josephbearup4787 how much did you pay your girlfriends boyfriend to drop you off at Knotfest?
I can totally respect a guy who wanted to create a product to make his friends laugh. That's not something you see people doing very often these days.
Only 15 bucks for a twelve pack of water? What a steal!!!
Everyone wants to be a billionaire... Not taking my money!!!
And the owners will only laugh at you for being stupid enough to buy a pack, they would not thank you
@@kanesmith8271 that's all business owners
@@kanesmith8271 that's... Like... Every business owner ever.
Not everyone can afford to be a philanthropist or barely break even.
I see what you did there. Kudos 👏🏾
I didn't like the idea However the branding, packaging and marketing is OP
Liquid Death dude: "I hate marketing!"
Also Liquid Death dude: Creates a business that is literally 100% marketing (Spoiler Alert: You can get water for free by turning a knob at home).
Spoiler alert: liquid death is tap water. Bwahahaha.
Spoiler alert: liquid death is tap water. Bwahahaha.
Free water in my city sucks. And I like buying their sparkling water.
Sounds like a scam.
So, ...where can I buy one?
Amazon.
You can sell your soul for a case
Water. It's just water, with a funny name
Its not just about water but what percentage of plastic bottles are water bottles. Cut that out and all you have really is soda bottles. If littering of metal cans gets overdone all you need is a couple of kids with 20 dollar can crushers and it can make decent money smelting it down.
They acknowledged that. Did you watch the video?
For someone who doesn’t drink alcohol
And finds comfort in grasping some type of drink at a social event;
Liquid Death is perfect
Plus it comes from a pretty cool source and what 10% of the profits go to is pretty rad as well… bravo 👏 Liquid Death 👏
Exactly! It looks *enough* like alcohol so I don’t get bombarded with the “why aren’t you drinking?!?!” stuff. It’s great.
I think this guy just selling himself and not a water company
He certainly jumped on the ecology bandwagon even though it's far from anything like ecologic. Marketing genius though.
@@MS-sd1uz Too clarify, I completely agree. I meant in this video, he was "selling" himself as a you said, a marketing genius
1:04 “basics living expenses of rent & ramen.” Ok, that’s the hook on most of us live by, I’ll sub.
My best friend was one of your most fervid supporters. They loved the brand, the mission, and while they ultimately took their own life, Liquid Death was one of their joys and a tool they tried to get sober with. Thank you for a wonderful, ridiculous interesting brand and sustainable company. I am a lifelong fan.
Is there plastic layering inside the can ? Most cans have that
Every can produced has a very thin ( a couple micrometers) plastic layer inside. It is necessary to prevent the liquid/food from interacting with the metal.
Its BPA, ya know, the bad kind of plastic. Not only are you paying wat more for water, it's also contaminated with BPA Yay!
*This is something that people have to solve.*
@@Llllillilililililillll .. you are wrong. the liner inside the cans is NOT BPA. BPA is a chemical component that was used in older style can liners, but nowadays most food manufacturers have switched to BPA free liner materials due to health concerns.
@@silentepsilon888 doesn’t matter. BPA free just means they switched to bps or bpf plastics. Pretty much just as bad for you. Makes men feminine
Yeah, this type of marketing doesn't work on me. My lack of imagination protects me like that.
Why not just drink...i dont know.... tap water ?
i just saw the headband can holder in a thrift/consignment store, i was like eh another beer hat, then i see this today i wanna go back and buy it now.
check out Healermanchris on IG he got LSDs,Shrooms, DMT that helps cure anxiety&depression, he ships discreetly
Probably mass produced to crap, won't profit much I'm sure
I love this water. It's colder than plastic bottles, marketing is genius, and it's so good. I am always hitting my Speedway for Liquid Death.
Water in a can seems like a dumb idea and I’m sure it’s overpriced
Cost about the same as water in a plastic bottle both are stupid as there are water in taps. But metal is better then plastic so who cares
In comparison to other bottled water brands or water from a tap?
Yeah demon in a bottle for three bucks
What I love is that when it was difficult for them to get into retail, instead of bitching about it, the found a different way.
Improvise, adapt, overcome
Just drink tap...save the environment
There are a lot of things that humans should "just do" but that's not how humans work.
*Marketing 100*
I never heard of this... just shows how strange humans are! It's pretty funny.
I love the irony in it.
I see that water in whole foods. I work there
Don't cans have a thing layer of plastic inside them?
I'm going to start an airline called "Air Crash" ... the "Crash" part will be the cost of tickets (as in really cheap)..
Wish me luck!! lmao
Lol 👍
I definitely thought this was a cold brew coffee drink when I first saw it in the supermarket. Gonna try it out now!
If it wasn’t so damn expensive I would buy loads of it.
lol, that's awesome! i remember when i found this stuff, loved that waterboarding commercial XD i used to bring an cold can to work first thing and it used to turn heads because it looks like a can of beer tall boy which is HILARIOUS and why i love it even more! took the managers like a week before they finally ask "whatcha got there?" if you love educating nosey people! walk around with some cans of water that look like beer! and the best part is the taste! it's like fresh snow melt runoff when it's nice and ice cold!
I love liquid death!! I don't like drinking alcohol and the packaging of this product helps reduce the social awkwardness I would feel if I was walking around empty handed
This is absolutely awesome! I love this.
Genius. Frank Zappa would endorse it.
he would have come up with a brilliant song, too😎💜
I'll make my own water brand called h2o2 THE SEQUEL TO WATER
So just straight ads now?
Simply Awesome....!
Best sparkling water I've ever had.
This is a great idea, it'll kill thirst, make people money, leave a minimal footprint, and best of all, redeem this young man for having worked for Nestle🙊
What's more, he is punny "knew I tapped into something." (at about one minute)🤣💧🌊
wait, is working for nestle bad?
@@hasanmuttaqin464 There are people who NEED to work for them. And, many who do work for the multinational conglomerate corporation are unaware of the pure evil that goes on. I would suggest you search yourself, there is a lot! smh😣😢😠 ( if you don't find anything, ask me again) take care💜
@@skywalktriceiam oh... That's kinda fucked up

I just got my first can today! Saw it at my local 711 and was like...liquid death? Water? Aight, how bad can it be with such a cool design? XD I'll give my opinion soon!
I like drinking liquid death at parties because I don’t really like beer so I can drink this so it looks like I’m drinking beer. I also just find it funny that it looks like beer but it’s just water
The bar I go to has free iced water on hand for anyone who asks, and they also sell Liquid Death. This guy just repackaged something that should be available and free and got millions for it.
CAPITALISM!!! YAY!!!
The thing is, packaging is convenience. I mean, do you actually think ANYTHING is as expensive as stores lead you to believe? Produce is the only thing one can truly answer "yes" to, because it's sold in bulk and you bring your own packaging, if any.
Have had all sorts of sparkling and bottled water . What’s stands out here is the marketing , something about drinking Liquid Death compared to Dasani Just hits a bit different . Haven’t tried it , hope to find some locally .
I love that he is wearing a Deicide shirt. They are a great Death Metal band.
Genius. I love the commercial.
i bought one because the can was cool.. but i think the water is terrible.. thank you for contributing to plastic clean up though
I seen this at my local gas station and were in a small town so it was cool to see!
He's literally the only advertiser who isn't wanted by interpol for entertainment disruption
My local target puts cases of this at the self checkout register haha I seen it and was like yes.
I tried some today and the flavors were really good I don’t even like sparkling water but whatever they did I definitely like it and the whole theme and marketing is really awesome
or just turn on a tap and fill a reusable bottle and save a fortune
Yeah, should have prepare Brita water filter pitcher first.
People should do a lot of things. That's not how people work.
I was babysitting my grandson and he was walking around drinking water (Liquid Death) for the first time. I am not sure how you made water cool for kids but is is infinitely better than all the other drinks that kids drink. Great job!
People truly will buy anything.
Nice Deicide shirt. First noticed this brand at metal gigs back in the 2010s - cool to know that was no mistake 🤘🏻
I showed the commercial to a friend. (The water boarding one) and he first responds was "I gotta get me one" straight up xD
I seen this in the store I’m gonna grab some
Love the premise and the product. Whats the thingy on the face/chin of the guy tricking People into being fearless about water purchasing?
I saw this van in a Walmart parking lot in Austin and didn't believe it was a real company at first.
Words have power.....I would never drink that...
I always drink club-soda especially in summer . I like the bubbles! The problem with the aluminum can is that one can't re seal it.....
Try stuffing the hole with a little piece of wet paper towel. It will give you at least an extra day of freshness. I do it with sodas so it should work with sparkling water as well.
Saw this the day after I started selling liquid death in my store got a whole cooler and a liquid death ice trough now .
Gonna buy some more next time I see it, already drink it but I like the history, cheers
If we had it here in Stockholm I'd buy it from time to time. I usually do carbonation at home though:-) would be nice if you could design home carbonation bottles!
do you have a soda machine? how do you carbonate drinks at home?

I'll come help you. I'm dead serious too💜
Let me know.
An extremely ironic, yet wicked sounding brand name? Brilliant!!!
That SB commercial was one of all time best 🤣
I bought a can out of curiosity and it tastes horrible in that dam can. So tingy.
I saw this at my local grocery store. I thought it was an energy drink and I completely ignored it.
Saw this at Omega Mart and it fit in so well
Love the deicide shirt!!!!
This story is actually inspiring
My parents thought it was a beer when they first saw it 🤣
What is the spring source and rating of the water in the cans?
I got carded At shaws on Friday and I asked for what and they had it in the computer as beer. Best water 💧 ever!
Gonna get one for my son to crack one open in class while his teacher is teaching 👌🏽😁
People buys anything these days
Tts the point bruh
Look at the US in 2020. Obviously
I've been enjoying these beverages. I buy them at my local Kroger grocery store.
all this time i thought liquid death was a beer (i hate beer) but now i that i know it's water, i have to try it.
We love this in our household we saw a commercial on UA-cam and at the end a pregnant woman is drinking a can and you're thinking it's beer it's so hilarious. My son is 13 years old and he's in scouts he took a can to a scout meeting and his scout leader thought it was beer my son thought it was the funniest thing.
This should be my new social water.
I buy like 3 cases of these, love the carbonated.
Lol well done sir.
Of course the guy is wearing a Deicide shirt 😂🤘 too bad I dont still have mine
smfh its only gonna get more expensive, still havent even tried it because its too expensive
Literally Dasani with a heavy metal wrap on it. You can tell this dude is a metal head with his Deicide shirt.
Idk but I’m in love with the sparkling water
I drink the carbonated water all the time, and it's really the best carbonated water I've ever tasted.
Genius marketing
a reusable bottle will be much better....
all the energy used to produce this...
Its about disposibility. How many people walk out with a empty water bottle. How many do not actually trust the water around them as safe. How many just want to buy a nice cold water on a hot summer day.
Using energy isn't a bad thing, it's about the energy source. Most powergrids have renewable energy producers.
Plastic bottle is reusable to some extends tho
It's like when Netflix produces a movie that's supposed to be a sarcastic reference to environmental issues, with million dollar actors.
Given the sheer number of bottled water brands at your average drink section, it definitely stands out from the crowd.
0:57 3:36 3:51 nice water puns 💧 👍
I'm waiting for the day when these land in Singapore. Those cans look pretty to me.
