    Great wee film! Just finished watching through your back catalog and thoroughly enjoyed the content. Just started spearfishing on the far north east coast of Scotland and have found your films very relatable but more overly, extremely insightful and instructional. All the very best to you and thanks for sharing these great films! 🤙🤙

      Some brilliant diving around Scotland, Ryan E has some really good videos on hunting ling and cod under the wrecks off the east coast

    Banging vid, again! I hurt my back so couldn't get up there last week as planned, but I'm healing fast! Coalies are delicious, I agree. Really meaty fish!
    I like to sprinkle curry powder on them as they cook on the BBQ, Jack! Highly recommended!

    Alright jack great shots.
    Like the idea of how you scope the area for your marks.
    Hopefully going to get over to Lleyn peninsula do a bit off wild camping fishing and cooking some fish.
    Keep up the good work 👌

      Recces on the coast path are the way to scout, have found so many good marks that way
      On Navonics you can see structure but I think the currents are more important

    Great video Jack - gorgeous conditions! Top spearing as always! I popped down on Friday, I’d planned to dive the cliffs on the South coast but the wind was absolutely howling and I could see far too much white water smashing on St. Tudwells, so decided to go to the North instead. There was a serious swell coming in up to about 1m, it was pretty grim but still picked up a nice bass and some Coalfish 👍🏼 gorgeous marks despite the terrible viz and conditions, haven’t dived them for a fair few years, really enjoyed it - I had some coalfish on the BBQ last night - superb! Thanks for the inspiration!

      So delicous aren't they! One of the best eating fish we've got and no real commercial pressure I believe
      Personally have had much better catches on the N Llyn than the S, seem to be more larger Pollock on the N side but fewer Mullet

      @@jackmetcalfe8542 honestly, I was so impressed - they're basically everything you wish pollock was - absolutely stunning fish to eat.
      You obviously like your cooking, one bit of kit that I cant recommend enough is a Weber Q1200 BBQ.
      I've had one for about 8 years, bulletproof piece of kit, mine has lived outside the entire time. I chuck it in the car when I go for a trip, makes cooking up your catch an absolute dream.
      I remember I was sitting in the car park at the end of Abersoch beach trying to cook two lobsters on one of those crappy disposable BBQs, some guy pulled up in his car, produced a Weber from the boot and the entire family had finished eating before my disposable was even up to temperature. I was instantly sold! 10/10

    Hey Jack, not seen you post a video in a while - you all good? If you fancy a dive some time, let me know, I’ve got a new boat up in Pwllheli marina, I’m down there pretty often. I’ve had a few good dives so far this year, the bass are very much in and I finally got that big plaice I’d been looking for!

    Great video👍. My friend and have bought the gear and are looking to try spearfishing this June/July. North wales is the closest place available to us. What general areas are the best for complete beginners ? We would prefer safer shallower waters but still want a good chance of catching a decent fish. Any help would be appreciated.

      Anglesey west coast is great for Bass in the shallows, not much current either. If you go at low slack you can have good results off the surface shooting fish resting in the kelp gullies

    Great informative content thanks so much. What speed of current would you say is too much, would you drift dive or get in and out at the same point?

    • @jackmetcalfe8542
      @jackmetcalfe8542  8 місяців тому

      Sometimes I drift dive and walk back along the coast path. If I’m not confident I can easily swim against a current I get out, and change spots

    Great videos Jack! I’ve just got back from Greece, snorkelling everyday seeing lots of big sea bream… i would love to try spearfishing. I’m only 1.5hrs from Anglesey, I recognise most of your spots😊. I’m aware of the safety aspects of this sport & freediving, ie. Never dive alone. I’m just wondering though is it realistic to think that i can spear some fish in quite shallow water without doing surface dives, or minimal depth of 10-15ft or so? Maybe the flatfish hang out in the shallows? Just because i wouldn’t have a dive buddy. Cheers!!

    • @jackmetcalfe8542
      @jackmetcalfe8542  Рік тому +1

      Off Anglesey most of the fish are really shallow, Flatfish, Bass and Mullet all in less than 3 meters
      The Llyn they seem to be deeper, but I've actually never shot a fish off N Wales in more than 15 meters, most Pollock are 6-10m
      Realistically I'll be honest in that when spearfishing your dive buddy is very very rarely going to be in position to rescue after a blackout, I almost always dive alone. But buddy up when freediving and pushing my depth

      @@wozeoutdooradventures5817 exactly as I would recommend everyone dives…however I don’t do that myself, will go a long long way out in strong currents and have speared at up to 25m (off Ireland) solo
      Clearly this is NOT recommended practice! The level of risk an individual will tolerate is a personal decision, different for everyone and I completely respect each spearos choices in that regard

      If you grunt underwater it tends to attract fish, especially Pollock and Coalfish
