    This is an extremely hazardous way to do this. This is equivalent to having loose wires in a grounded receptacle box, free floating. This isn't a low budget trashy car stereo - we're playing with 240V at high current potential that will cycle between room temp and very hot. Due to where the wires could short, and the painted surfaces, it may not be a direct path to ground either, so both fire and electrical shock are a potential hazard (note the comment about a spark...).
    I'd advise anyone who wants to try this - use ceramic wire nuts or better yet, ceramic screw terminal blocks to prevent the wires from shorting to ground.

      100% agreed!! Read my numerous replies, as well as the description. That's definitely the riskiest part here, so that's why I've been emphasizing it so much.

      @@shadetreewannabe Yeah for sure. With how annoying these burners are, I know people will attempt this easy modification verbatim, especially if they're not familiar with electricity. I'm posting more as a "for those who want to do this, try this:".
      Even ceramic wire nuts have a potential failure, but that's the surefire way to go.
      I used square ceramic terminal blocks found on amazon/eBay. They have 4 screws (only 2 needed for this) and I bolted them down to the bottom inside of the burner center. Somewhat challenging if you're not used to working on small electronics, but worth it.

      @@KurtDobbins Oh yeah, it works, but the method is what I have an issue with. Flying wires, twisted together, with 240v is unsafe and possibly unreliable, and it isn't up for debate.
      See all the other comments on this and other videos/web pages about modifying these and a shocking (no pun) number of them mention a spark, killing the infinity switch, or other dangerous situations usually followed with "help! I don't know what to do!". This implies *completely inexperienced* people are jury-rigging 240V appliances.
      I modified mine as well, so I'm not against that though. Hate these stupid sensi-temps.

      And again, I like to re-emphasize that this should just be treated as a temporary fix until one can save up for a regular set of burners. The biggest issue with all this is the risk of those twisted bare wires making contact with something and shorting out. My only other thought (since you can't use electrical tape or plastic caps because they'll melt) is maybe stuff a little ceramic fiber insulation around those twisted together wires to keep them from touching anything else.
      Like I've said before, I'm not a professional ANYTHING, so this is just my wannabe advice as always. Lol!!

    I testify to this fix, which I found with the search terms "disable sensitemp burners".
    It is neither crude nor impractical: it's effective and elegant, and your video is succinct. I may write a letter to UL nominating you to their Engineering Hall of Fame. If they don't have one, you could be the founding member. Or I might write to Stockholm and nominate you for the Nobel Peace Prize for meritorious contributions to the Lowering of Frustrations and Maintaining a Consistent Simmer (leading to consistently perfect hard-boiled eggs).
    I offer a single note: for me, the wire wouldn't pull easily out of the center lead, where it was immovably crimped. Instead, clip the wire right at the lead; a set of good toenail clippers would do it. You'd be left with plenty of wire to do the rest just as you've demonstrated.
    I made a bit of a mess of things trying to work the wire out, since it tore loose without warning, and before I could stop my motion, I tore the wire out of the burner element lead, which fortunately wasn't damaged. I clipped the other wire as described previously, and, possessing the necessary tools and material (and very, very basic skill), soldered it directly to the other lead. Globby, but connected.
    Post Script: Put a pot of water on the burner. Turned the dial to 10. Watched the pot. It boiled. First full-speed rolling boil ever. Stayed that way. Then I turned it off.
    On to the other three.

      Temperature-adjusting electric burners are a UL REQUIREMENT as of 2018. They are intended to keep the burners below the temperature that cooking oil ignites.

    • @lajohnson1ly
      @lajohnson1ly 2 роки тому +4

      @@edmacias90815 Not only that, they can keep the burner below the boiling point of water. When you want to bring a liquid to a rolling boil and keep it there for a few minutes, these burners won't allow the temperature to remain constant long enough for this, and not even a simmer is possible. But sure, you won't start a fire making French fries. */They do not work very well./* I have been very happy to disable them.

    • @lajohnson1ly
      @lajohnson1ly 2 роки тому +4

      @@edmacias90815 those burners make cooking frustratingly difficult. Boiling an egg, for example, means bringing the water to a rolling boil, adding the eggs, and reducing the temperature to a moderate simmer. These burners shut down as soon as the water reaches the boil, and will not allow manual adjustment. The water falls below a simmer and takes a good 90 seconds to recover. A soft-boiled egg should take 5 minutes, but not with these. I'll bet it would cost a lot less in the long run to send a thermometer with new ranges with a sheet of paper that says , Don't allow your fry oil to exceed 450 degrees. *_They don't work well!_*

      @shadetreewannabe  2 роки тому +3

      Eesh!! Yeah that's why I tell people to do this at their own risk because I'm not a professional ANYTHING! Lol!!
      Around 1:31 is where I mention bending the clips (that you removed the wires from) up and out of the way as much as you can. And also when you twist and connect the wires directly together, make sure they're in the middle as much as possible and not close to touching anything else. The sparking you're talking about makes me think the wires are too close to something and making a connection, therefore causing an electrical short. Which is kind of scary because you don't want to damage your stove's circuitry, or other electrical components.
      In the end it sucks that we even have to resort to all this to get our burners to perform like they should in the first place, but I guess it's better than buying a whole new set of burners if you don't really have the money.
      Anyway, I hope that helps a little.

      I've written in the description and several comments that instead of just leaving the twisted wires bare like I did, get some ceramic nuts (that I didn't originally know about) and attach them to each pair of wires that were twisted together. That way it pretty much stops the possibility of the bare wires touching something and causing an electrical short or shock.

    Everything new sucks now. Everything has to be made to accommodate stupid people. What a sad and stupid world we live in now. This is only 1 of a handful of appliances my wife and I have ever bought. Shouldve just bought an old used one. Our new washer just stripped its stupid plastic gears too. Luckily I can fix stuff , but thats the whole point of buying something new. Pisses me off that this stupid comment makes me sound old too.

      Agreed!! It's incredibly annoying!!
      If you can afford to buy regular burners, I HIGHLY recommend doing that and avoid all this mess if possible. This video was meant for just a quick fix for those that needed something for now while they saved up to buy new burners.

      Yikes!! Yeah that's the iffy part about those bare wires being there.
      In the description, as well as several comment replies, it's HIGHLY recommended to use ceramic wire nuts to screw onto the bare wires that are twisted together. I didn't even know those were a thing until way after posting this video. Ever since finding out, I've tried to emphasize it as much as possible in the comments, as well as the description.
      Be safe!

    • @shadetreewannabe
      @shadetreewannabe  Рік тому

      Maybe the breaker got tripped?
      The scariest part is making sure the bare wires you had to twist together aren't touching anything else at all, because you don't want to cause a short. Which it sucks because you can't use electrical tape or plastic connectors to cover the bare wires because it will melt when you turn the burners on. I'm thinking maybe packing a small amount of ceramic fiber around the bare wires might help?
      Again, I only did this for temporary purposes. I eventually saved up enough to get a regular set of coils on Amazon for 40 bucks.
      That might be the best way to go if nothing else works.
      Good luck to you!

      Oh shoot. Well if you replaced it with entirely different burners and it's still not getting hot, the problem is with the stove I'm guessing. Did you buy a whole new set of burners or just a single coil?

    This is a dangerous video, not because he bypassed the sensors but because he left exposed high voltage wires exposed. If someone does this, tin the wires with a soldering gun after connecting them and put a ceramic wire nut on them and do a good job of seeing that they are screwed on good and don't come off.

      Yikes!! Be careful!!
      Yeah this mess is definitely more about the burners than the stoves themselves. And I want to emphasize this is definitely just a temporary fix until you can save up the money to buy regular burners, as that's absolutely the best case scenario.
      Also, I've mentioned it in the comments as much as possible, and I also edited it in the description, to get several pairs of ceramic wire nuts to screw onto the twisted together wires, instead of leaving them bare. I wasn't aware of them until after I made this video, but I updated that info the same day a commenter told me about them.
      Hope that info helps. Stay safe!!
