It is crazy how fast these kinds of tutorials can change. This was released in May of this year (2022) and now September there are different menu options and routes to selecting the stuff he recommends in the video. Not his fault at all but the fact this changes from month to month makes it hard for newer people starting out in ecommerce lol.
@@ryanwelsh1864 In Analytics, click Admin/Data Streams/Your Data Stream Name. This opens the web stream details page. Under the "Google Tag" menu header, click "Configure tag settings". It will open a page with menu titled "Settings" with 3 options... instead of clicking any of the 3 options listed, click "Show All" over in the top right corner of this menu. That will open up the menu option showing "List unwanted referrals". From there, follow his instructions above. (I also love how Google likes to "tinker" with menus. Consistency would be too easy for their users.)

Has GA 4 changed since the video was released? Because I don't have additional settings, more tagging settings under my data stream to add the referral sites ?
I had wasted many hours trying to get this set up properly. I wish I had seen this video much earlier! Thanks for the tips and info! Just one note; the "event" didn't come across to automatically to Google Ads, had to add an event in GA.
Hey guys! For some reason when I'm trying to import conversion actions from GA4 web, there is no events showing up and it says "you haven't imported any events". Did I miss something? Thanks for the great video as always
Hey guys, I did a bit of searching and found a solution. In your GA4 property goto events>create and then create a property named "puchase" where the event_name equals puchase (extracted from the provided code), and you should be set. I found it took a while to sync with google Ads, so i just unlinked the accounts (Google Ads>Tools and settings>Linked accounts> google Analytics), and then relinked them and it found it. I hope that helps.
Actually they do, but you're just allowed to track purchase events in GA4 if you sign up Shopify Plus. You're not allowed if you just have the standard plan !!😑
Hi, Great video. In the video mentions about exclusion of referrals and a link in the description but I cannot find the link in the description. thanks,
does anyone use the subtotal amount in conversion tracking (instead of the full sales amount) to better understand actual ROAS? or am I on the wrong path here? For us, shipping prices vary so much that we dont want those figures messing with the profit margin as it is a sunken cost.
The conversions are not trackable, I see you have updated the code in the link you provided in the description, but still not tracking. Any idea why? Help?
Shopify does not allow tracking checkout purchase page if you have standard plan, you're just allowed to do it if you sign Shopify Plus.! Maybe thats why
Is there a possibility of conversions not being tracked with GA due to ios14.5? Followed your method to a T, made 3 sales. 2 of them were tracked, 1 wasnt.
Great Video, super simple! Yet 2 Questions: 1) What is the difference of this Version to a more sophisticated solution via Google Tag Manager? 2) Attribution --> Why linear and not Data Driven (recommended by Google) ?
1) Google Tag Manager is a bit more advanced, and we wanted to share this quick setup that most people are interested in. 2) Yes, definitely select Data-Driven. This is an older video from when that wasn't available to everyone.
@@KeyCommerce Hello Sam, so i set up conversion tracking as you did for GA4 but i already had GUA conversions on the account. Wouldnt this affect my ads since one is listed primary and the other secondary. Also for some reason my GUA was already tracking conv value.
What if the client's google analytics account is not created with the same email as the google ads account and I don't see the GA4 account (link) in Google Ads account "set up --> linked accounts" section. You only forget one thing !! Shopify does not allow tracking checkout purchase page if you have standard plan, you're just allowed to do it if you sign Shopify Plus.!
3+ hours later and... nothing shows up in reports. I'm more confused than ever. I've stopped, re-viewed the segment in question, verified that I did what the video says to do many, many times. I'm furious that it seems like you have to have a degree in astrophysics to manage ANYTHING in google analytics. When I did this six or seven years ago in my Shopify store, it was "easy-peasy." All I had to do was copy the code from the Universal Analytics and paste it just above the code in my home page. Now? It's "copy this." Go here. "Paste this there," "No go there and copy this after jumping through hoops to get where I'm supposed to be..." I loathe Google Analytics! It may be a great thing once you get it to work, but what a total pain it is to get it to work. And now what should I do? Remove all the code that I put here, there and everywhere else? I suppose I'll have to pay hundreds - if not thousands - of dollars to get someone who has an advanced degree in astrophysics to do this for me. 10 minutes? Hardly!! Like I said, 3+ hours later, and I've made absolutely no progress whatsoever...

@Brandon Weidinger I had to play around with it also but I found it under Configure tag settings > Settings > Show more > List unwanted referrals.

Very helpful and easy explanation. Do you have any updated video for annotations in GA4?
Im really enjoying this course. In this video you went into detail for shopify users. is there any video for woocommerce ?
I really like the way you explain it
Is there a reason for crrating the second property?
Hey Sam, great content as always - thanks for that. do i need to disable the old purchase conversion tracking now?
Learned a lot from this video. Thank you! 😊
You're most welcome.
I'm linking Ads and GA4 - Should "Google Optimise sharing" AND "Apps and web metrics" be turned on or off please?
It's really informative. If I may, can you recommend a solution to transfer my annotation data to new GA4?

Hello, in the conversions section... It shows all the sales registered? or just the sales that were thanks to ads?
Within Google Ads you'll see the conversions that are attributed to Google Ads.
@@KeyCommerce love it
Should there only be one conversion tracking event for purchases? I have conversion tracking from the google feed app as well as the GA4 tracking.
Just make sure only one counts in Google Ads, otherwise you'll think you have more sales than you do (and so will Google's machine learning).

Nice vid! Wouldn’t a google ads tag be better since it can use enhanced conversion tracking?
The referral exclusion part both on your website and in this video is less than expected.
I thought GA4 hasn't been supported by Shopify yet???

If Anaytics is not working, disable ADS Block.

Kinda annoying that everything has to revolve around shopify all the time. Not every ecommerce store is a shopify store.
