    Thanks for the video always good to see others working. I use 38 mm Eurocel premium as this is the same width as the Stanley retractable glass scraper so that you can cut a clean edge. I use a thin piece of wood with a rounded corner and that saves your fingers when pushing the edge down. The other great thing about the glass scraper is you can push the blade sideways so you can get right into corners to cut the tape .Buy the blades in big packs from wholesale glass company and you will never look back.

      We're all one big team! Hard floors I use 1400 grade lining paper and the blue rhino tape from Toolststion to hold it down to the floor at intervals to stop it drfiting and then 1" tape on top and it's white which improves light a bit.
      I also use an old paintbrush to smooth down tape instead of fingers as the brush is already worn, rather than my fingers!
      As for light I use a couple of LED strip lights which I just place on the floor covered with a bit of clear masking to protect them .
      Amazingly robust and lightweight. I also use a LED lenser headtorch, surprising how this helps as it's white light it helps with colour differentiation, light where you want it. Great videos , like your choice of music too.

      Hi Allan, ah great news.. let me know how you get on, and if I can help and advise at all.. couple of quick tips, keep the use of caulk to a minimum, it’s a practice I follow more these days (with the risk of crazing).. wipe off any excess, and leave ample time to fully cure.. when masked up, I whip over with a rattle can / light spray of shellac (using Smith and Roger lately).. this helps prevent the risk of crazing.. whilst the AkzoNobel Aqualit is an acrylic like the caulk, it dries quicker than caulk and can craze ☹️ ..final tip, whilst you’re ‘learning’ the material, move relatively quick.. even out a 208 or 308 tip, the paint will flow.. don’t use a .010 🙂 ..all the best my friend.. regards Pete

      Hey James, great to hear from you buddy.. haha, yeah ‘great minds..’ as they say 😆 ..I have a lot of success brush and rolling wallpapered walls up onto the ceiling.. no cutting in, no getting up and down a hop up, so a quick process.. then masking off the walls and spraying the ceiling on the last day.. much easier to get a super sharp line across rough textured wallpaper.. and less laborious spraying a ceiling 😆 ..You’re doing great my friend, all the best James.. regards Pete

    I keep finding that all too often skirting boards are old oil paint. Need priming first. Have loads of Zinsser Cover Stain that is also a great primer to jump to water based paints. Still it is a pain to wash off a sprayer. Zinsser BIN is quite expensive but easier to clean.
    Pete, I didn't quite understand that you seem to remove all floor masking before rolling walls. Why or is it just the way it was edited in the video?
    Then I didn't quite understand why you have rolled the walls. I see others agree with you on this technique but it is not obvious to me.

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому

      Hey Dmitriy, great to hear from you brother 🙏 ..thanks for the feedback.. the floor protection is a felt / plastic backed product that can be rolled up at the end of the day.. I removed the paper as it’s no longer required.. the household (and pets) can use the living space that evening, then the next day, floor protection rolls back down, skirting / trim / architrave is masked and I manually brushed and rolled.. potentially I could have sprayed, it was a close call, but the walls were a heavy textured wallpaper, combined with pets in the house, I decided to manually roller the walls.. no risk to soaking the wallpaper and having additional masking disturbed 😆 ..walls / ceiling cut line was masked next day and the ceilings sprayed (there was 2 ceilings in an open plan lounge / kitchen diner 👍 ..I’ve got the footage, I will do a follow up video.. hope this makes sense 🙈 great to hear from you my friend 💯 regards Pete

    Great job Pete,thanks for showing how much nicer it is to spray the skirting rather than trying to brush them in and cutting in along the carpet with a brush is always a nightmare,plus I guess you can really load on a good coat with the sprayer,the ultra max cordless is so handy in that scenario that's where it shines maybe,you don't spray the walls though why is that?will the paper not take it?keep well

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому +1

      Hi Eddie, really appreciate your feedback.. yeah it’s something I recommend to spray skirting for speed and efficiency, plus the superior finish.. the masking time wise is quick, and comparable to the masking still required to brush 👍 ..Regarding the walls, you can spray wallpaper, but I’d recommend not overloading with paint and moving quick, perhaps even back roll.. you can risk the paper lifting and becoming a little unstuck.. so in this scenario I was considering that.. another factor was this household had pets that I feared would disrupt the additional masking required to spray walls 🙈 ..If anyone doesn’t want to spray walls, I do recommend trying it out, to brush and roll up onto the ceiling, and mask the walls, spraying the ceiling in on the last day 👍 ..I love spraying everything, so it’s always a very close decision 💙 ..hope you’re keeping well my friend 🙏

    Hi Pete, I hope you’re keeping well. Super job, as always.
    A timely reminder to always remove masking immediately after spraying - I just completed a large HSL, used Deltec purple tape to protect trim but I left it on a Dado rail until after I masked the walls and sprayed the ceiling - big mistake, no bridging issues but the tape tore as I removed it leaving little bits to be picked off! Hope this helps someone, I won’t be doing that again!
    A quick question - What floor protection are you using? I’ve been using adhesive carpet film which works very well, especially on stairs where dust sheet runners had a tendency to slide all over the place.
    Many thanks and best wishes, Rob

      Hey Rob, always a pleasure my friend, and to hear about your experience.. I’ve been there myself 🙈 ..I’m having a lot of success using Kip, their washi is a true Japanese washi Vs synthetic .. I can’t fault the strength.. in fact you’ll see a tape pull at the end of this Insta post where the bannister was protected for the duration of the HSL.. you’ll also see at the end a glimpse how I’ve tacked down the floor protection that you mention, tacking into each stair riser.. it’s very quick and I roll up at the end of each day on a HSL .. I’ve used the ‘roll and stroll’ plastic like yourself, very good and I too have found it effective ..I have heard one horror story where it’s bonded to a carpet though 🙈

    Great video thanks. I have a few of questions. Hope it doesn't sound too much like an interrogation!
    Did you roller the walls the same day you sprayed the skirting? If so does that mean you were able to tape the skirting the same day you sprayed if you didn't do any cutting in? And if you just sprayed the skirting that day only - does that work re managing your time? Do you have a preferred film for covering the walls before you spray? Didn't know about wallpaper and spraying so thanks for that. I've ordered the tape and paper so looking forward to having a go. Haven't ordered the sprayer though... : ) Does look veerrry handy though

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому

      Thank you so much for your kind feedback, happy to help and answer any questions if I can.. I typically spray a high build primer, denib and more prep (if required), potentially spray another coat of primer, followed by 2 top coats.. in this scenario, I would wait till the next day to mask up the skirting, before spraying (or manually rolling walls) up on to the ceiling.. then the next day / final day, mask the ceiling cut line, protecting the walls with 2.6m plastic.. then spraying in the ceiling(s) 👍
      If minimal prep is required, it is possible to manage the project a little quicker.. spray ceilings then woodwork on the same day.. but the next day it world mean manually cutting in the ceiling cut line, perhaps masking the woodwork and brush / rolling the walls..
      Hope this makes sense 😆
      This is the Kip masking film I use.. I do very much rate the performance of the Kip range 🔴💯

    Hello Pete 😉 I really like watching your videos from which I can learn a lot 😁 I wanted to ask you if tip 208 is better than tip 310 for wood finishing? I haven't had the opportunity to paint 208 yet, so I ordered and we'll see how it goes 😁 The second question is whether the graco ultra handheld water base container is any different from the solvent-based paint container and is it possible to mount an ultra max pump to an ultra gun when it's time to replace? Best regards Sebastian 😁😁😁

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому +1

      Hey Sebastian, really appreciate your kind feedback 🙏 ..a .008 tip fluid flow is less Vs a .010, so you could gain more control.. a .008 tip is for lower viscosity (free flowing) paint, whereas a .010 tip suits ‘decorative’ coatings (paint that is thicker and could be brushed and rolled).. it’s certainly worth a try.. what you do is if when spraying with an .008 tip you still get tails and the pressure is increased, swap out to the .010 and pressure should be more what you’d expect.. also a .008 tip could clog more if the paint is thicker.. but yeah .008 tips are great, I use a lot of Graco FF LP tips 👍 ..let me know how you get on.. regarding the Flexliner, the cup and liner system is compatible with both waterborne and solvent.. Ultra and UltraMax models.. however with with Triax pump replacement, whilst the Triax technology is the same, there is a difference in how the pump is earthed in the UltraMax model, to do with solvent compatibility and preventing a ‘spark / explosion’ risk .. so it wouldn’t be possible to turn an Ultra model into an UltraMax, if that makes sense 😆
      Hope this info helps my friend, keep in touch, happy to help if I can.. regards Pete

    How often do you change the pump in the Graco Ultra, and how much is it to rebuild?

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому

      Hi Stuart, really appreciate your feedback my friend.. I had a warranty repair in an earlier Ultra unit, a rare situation occurred where a bearing came out it’s housing.. so technically not a pump failure, certainly not through overworking the pump.. that’s the key, the handhelds are for small projects, complimenting the bigger pumps, then if you clean properly and use pump armour, you should have trouble free spraying.. I can vouch that my Ultra and UltraMax has helped me time and time again and they’ve earned their keep..
      Just checked and including VAT a replacement UltraMax Triax pump is £182.40 from SpraymanUK..
      www.sprayman.co.uk/product/triax-pump-ultramax-airless-hh-cordless/
      I get it’s a costly replacement, but Vs the speed and finish you’ll achieve and what you’ll earn from jobs, the handheld airless units are certainly an investment 💙

    Excellent job would love one of the handheld graco’s. DIYer here - how do you not getting any bridging between the bottom of the skirting and the tape when leaving it to dry? I got some awful ones in a few places but I’m wondering if it might be from inconsistency in my spraying speed

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi Hayden, thank you for watching and your kind feedback.. to avoid bridging in the area you describe, ensure the carpet fibres are being held back as far as possible with the tape.. and avoid coating too heavy - I think this is the main culprit - like you mention, if you was to slow down with the gun in any areas, you’ll get a heavier coating.. also your overlaps as you navigate your way round the skirting, they will naturally be heavier 👍 hope this helps 🙏 keep in touch, regards Pete

    Hey Pete it's Rossco back again, this time armed with my new GXFF 😁.
    I've just finished spraying two rooms using your techniques and it all went incredibly. It was a lot of fun and the finish is incredible. Thank you! This would have been an absolute ballache to figure out by myself. You made it very easy.
    Only issue I have had is right at the very end. I finished spraying the ceiling, removed the kip 232, then peeled off the Kip washi-tec purple tape revealing a very sexy straight line, but unfortunately the tape took quite a lot of small pieces of paint with it, right down to the plaster. Nooooooooo.
    This was bare skim coat plaster, sprayed with 35% water mist coat johnstones matt, backrolled, then two coats of the durable matt, with 24 hours after mist coat and 6 hours between top coats. Any idea where I have gone wrong Sensei? Or something I can do to prevent this happening in the future?

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому +1

      Hello, great to hear from you my friend.. and thank you so much for the support, very much appreciated..
      First and foremost, let me congratulate you on a milestone achievement, having success airless spraying two rooms.. I can tell from reading your feedback that you have tackled the job in a very methodical way and I’m humbled by your kind words regarding my process.. as for the ‘mishap’ when pulling the purple tape, it certainly doesn’t sound like you’ve done anything wrong with prep and products.. I can offer one small suggestion, especially when coating up fresh plaster, ensure the surface is as dust free as possible.. especially the top perimeter where the purple washi will stick later.. a Wooster Dust Eater or something similar can make light work of large areas, and I also wipe round the top edge / ceiling cut line with trade wipes, or a damp microfibre cloth..
      Your paint selection, johnstones acrylic durable matt topcoat and drying times sounds spot on.. quick question, you mention Johnstones matt, 35% thinned for mist coat.. was this an acrylic ?.. if not, it could be worth using the acrylic thinned 30 / 35% as you rightly did.. Or Johnstones Joncryl WB Primer.. you could thin exactly the same 👍
      Please don’t be put off by any paint pulling, you’ve done an absolute amazing job, well done.. great achievement 👏👏👏💙
      Ps congratulations on your GXFF purchase, you’ve investment wisely my friend 💙

      @@PaintHQ Thank you Pete 👌 I will definitely use a damp cloth next time in the areas that will be taped. Great shout. I used a dry cloth and a vaccum but it obvs hasn't been good enough. Damp cloth defs makes sense.
      A couple more questions for you if you may. Firstly, what do you do with your sprayer between coats? Do you always release the pressure and wrap the tip with a bag? How about if leaving it overnight and using it straight away the next day? Do you always use pump armour?
      Lastly, do you recommend any other decorator paints for spraying trim, like a Johnstones or Tirrikula? Just because i can get them locally and cheaply and I may end up hand finishing some of the trim so it's nice to have options.
      Cheers pal and thanks again!

      You’re very welcome my friend, happy to try and answer questions anytime 👍 ..Between coats.. textbook procedure (for safety), would mean performing pressure release, leaving unit in prime, and trigger lock on the gun.. now if I’m honest, (just between coats) I have left the sprayer pressurised, I lock the gun and twist the tip a quarter turn (it blocks the orifice).. if an extended period between coats, I’d dump pressure (unit in prime), lock trigger, twist tip a quarter and wrap the tip guard in a damp cloth (more so in warmer months).. I never dump the gun in a bucket of water, seems others may do this but I’d rather not submerge the gun in water.. overnight I will flush the pump a couple of times, it doesn’t have to be perfectly clean, the water could be cloudy coloured.. I will cycle some pump armour, just in the pump (not the line) and I’ll prime that into a spare pump armour bottle, and mark it ‘diluted’.. I’ll use this for cleaning / flushing the sprayer at a later date.. I like to think I’m meticulous in looking after kit (internal cleaning), but I can say it’s ok to be quicker if storing overnight.. I never leave paint in the pump over night, but again I do hear stories of units just left in prime and I can vouch for the Graco units being very forgiving 💙
      Regarding decorative trim paints, if it’s PPG you have easier access to, I’d go with Tikkurila Helmi or Everal Aqua.. both very good, EA being the better of the two 👍 ..In my opinion they don’t compare to the finish of AkzoNobel though 👌 ..Whilst AkzoNobel is low viscosity / spray only, I have had pleasingly surprising success with a brush and the Purdy Parrot enamel roller 😆
      Keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙

      Try Optiva primer for mist coat. It’s cheap enough with a trade acc. I’ve left yellow basic q1 on that for a week and it doesn’t pull the paint off in the slightest. Top coats go on better too.

    Hi Pete, couple of questions if you don’t mind. I sprayed a large fitted wardrobe with the AkzoNobel paint, great finish. The surface was probably a door wrap, plastic maybe. As I wasn’t sure of the primer, I gave them a coat of Otex Akva, then the AkzoNobel primer, then 2 top coats. Do you think I needed the Otex Akva? Thanks Allan.

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Рік тому

      Hi Allan, apologies for my delayed response, long day yesterday.. thanks for the feedback on the AkzoNobel, being a waterborne 1K industrial coating, and low viscosity, it’s awesome.. perhaps takes a little ‘learning’ as to how much to lay on, speed moving the gun etc.. regarding the wardrobe, I totally get your dilemma and thought process, and you’ve got it spot on (in my opinion).. over the melamine style surface, you could spray a shellac such as BIN or Blockade.. but then you need to flush with meths, no big deal just a bit smelly.. so to choose Otex Akva is a good decision 👍 ..technically you wouldn’t need to follow with the WP136 primer (it’s a high build edge sealer / mdf / timber), but I too like to stick to the same system when going on with the (Aqualit) topcoat.. I have sprayed Aqualit over shellac and it’s no problem, but the WP136 just gives the complete finish more body 👍
      What airless tip did you use for the AkzoNobel if you don’t mind me asking? a 308 would help with a thinner spread of material over the wider fan Vs a 208.. both .008 are perfect (a Graco FF LP .006 could be better, but takes a bit higher pressure).. a 208 Vs a 308 you just need to adjust your speed, especially on the verticals.. trick is to lay on the optimal coat for the ultimate finish 👌
      I’ll always get back to you on any questions, never hesitate to ask.. really appreciate your support my friend.. regards Pete 💙

      @@PaintHQ Hi Pete, I used the 308 tip, Graco GXFF, pressure 950. I think I learned a great deal on this one, will try it on MDF cabinets next. I had a few problems recently with drying on the MDF, especially on darker colours. Glad you think I got the primer etc right.
      Thank you so much for your time and patience. Thanks Allan.

      You’re very welcome.. yeah you’ve got it all spot on, including a 308 tip selection 👍 ..When spraying the primer and even the first topcoat, you can move relatively quickly.. that way the drying time will be improved.. this also allows you to judge the speed for the all important final coat, just slowing the movement just a fraction to lay on an optimal coat that will dry down beautifully.. the WP136 primer really cones into its own on mdf 👌 you could spray 2 coats of primer and denib / sand between coats, 240+ grit 👍 sands silky smooth 😆 regards Pete

    Hi Pete , great informative video as always mate . Just bought myself a graco ultra to accompany my gx21 ,. I have a hand held titan xvlp and a 3 stage q-tech HVLP . Bought the ultra for smaller jobs and touch ups as xvlp was just to temperamental in regards to the thinning different materials getting block , spitting etc . I used my graco ultra (after watching loads of your videos ) and am over the moon with it , it’s a great bit of kit . I was spraying mdf wardrobes (primed with 123) and finishing with Johnstones durable eggshell (I usually use HELMI ) using 310 fine finish tip (slightly eased paint to flow . Although I was happy I noticed slight orange peel on finish , it seemed to be spraying fine on around 3 or 4 . Need to put top coat on later on this week , I intend to give another light rub to get rid of slight orange peel but do you think pressure might be a bit low to atomise this product ? Do you think I should crank pressure up a bit or maybe move a bit faster . Always a bit of a steep learning curve when getting a new machine. Any advice would be much appreciated and thanks for all your hard work on this channel 👍

      Hi Colin, apologies for not replying sooner.. I will always get back to you.. awesome feedback, thank you.. it’s great to hear how you’ve embraced spraying and your success with the Graco Handheld.. I do rate Johnstones, especially the durable matt emulsion.. but I find and hear from others that the woodwork / trim paints don’t spray well.. from what I’ve read it sounds like you’re methodical in getting ready to spray, doesn’t read to me that you’ve done something ‘wrong’.. certainly test your spray first on some brown paper, and look to spray on the lowest setting to effectively atomise the material.. orange peel is not an issue linked to airless spraying, it’s usually too much air in HVLP / XVLP ..this is why it could be the Johnstones paint.. certainly try increasing the speed / pressure, I’d guess a thixotropic paint that can also be brushed, you’ll be around speed 7 / 8 ..I can recommend trying the AkzoNobel primer and topcoat that I feature in most videos, details will be in the video descriptions, from Holman Paints.. these WB low viscosity coatings atomise super easy, low pressure, speed 4, through a 208 or 308 tip 👍 ..keep in touch, happy to help any way I can, I’ll always reply.. regards Pete

      @@PaintHQ Hi Pete , thanks so much for getting back to me I know your a busy man but appreciate your advice .competed job today (doors just need to go on next week )and after putting pressure up-to around 6 and moving a bit quicker it appears to be drying out better but not perfect to me 😂 when you look straight on it looks fine but when you tilt and put into natural light (not that you can once doors are re-hung ) you can still see slight orange peel but I think only to the trained eye .ps the client is absolutely made up with the job but I am always striving to achieve a better finish . I have been in this game many years but only started ‘fine finishing spraying‘ sort of works a year and a half ago and tbh it’s been like learning from the beginning again but my years of decorating experience has bailed me out once or twice and the brush and roller have been called on 😉. Products wise I have achieved better finishes with HELMI and zinseer and also refurbished some large door handles on a commercial property with bradite one can (through xvlp) and was very happy with the finish, so you are definitely onto something regarding Johnstons acrylic maybe not spraying as well as other .I would be really interested to try out the Akzo Nobel wb gear as I have see you use them on a few of your videos .thank you again for getting back to me mate and have a great weekend . Look forward to the next vid ! 🙏
