I really miss the PS3 era. It really was the last console that felt like an real media hub. It quite literally did everything! You could do so much on this system. You could play games, you would watch movies, you brows the net, rip and use your own music in certain games, you could, at one point, load another OS on it. What wasn’t there to love?
As a recent PS5 owner (for 3 months already) I must say the PS Store on it is absolutely amazing. The only thing I want to be added is to be able to see the full list of my friends who've bought the game I'm browsing, and not only to see the profile pics of 2 or 3 of them.
@@peterGchaves Yes almost every game I look at it will show the same ones and I know these people are not buying all of these games. I personally know a few of my friends on the list and I know its just not so. The best way to tell if someone is playing the game is to look at their trophy list, if you can and see what they play and ask them if they are still active if it is something you want to play.
@@mrslimee2674 true, I actually thought the same about some games I checked, I was surprised to see the profile pics of certain friends on them 😅 Anyways, checking the trophies lists it's a way, yes, but obviously shouldn't be the only one... Sony already did the feature apparently, but until now it's poorly executed.
Even though I have a PS5, i've found myself playing more and more PS3 this year to chew through my backlog which still remains from my high school days. Will always be my favourite console.
I actually bought some of the premium avatars that I thought were actually cool. Some I can remember was on reading "trophy hunter", few GTA 5 ones and a few others. Thought it would be cool to have some that not a lot of people would know existed
Shakedown Hawaii does give you all the platforms you mentioned. It's one of only two games with a 4 console cross buy on PSN, the other being from the same guy. Retro City Rampage on PSN gives you access to the game on PSP, PS Vita, PS3, and PS4. It's cool how that man keeps old game consoles alive. I bought Shakedown Hawaii on the Wii, which was the final Wii release ever 14 years after the console launched (July 2020).
Honestly, the old PSStore on ps3 was the best, the 2nd one (not the web based one ) , superfast and functional, easy to navigate. The last one was just so damn slow and laggy , plus it used to crash or freeze a lot. Oddly, this store is still on the console, in fact with some games you can load it.. but there's nothing sadly
@Mystic: I wanted to say that I bought a PS3 in March 2011, because it’s when I *finally* could afford one and *finally* had managed to accumulate enough paychecks to be able to get one. I agree with you also: the final-change they made to the PlayStation-Store (which was an imitation of Microsoft’s XBox-Store) SUCKS. The second version, like you said, was the best one. Several Assassin’s-Creed games have that thing that you went to the 2nd-version of the PlayStation-Store, from when you were inside the main-menu of the game, to download Downloadable-Content and stuff. There are tons of games on PS3 which are *AWESOME* and *aren’t* out on PS4 (let-alone PS5), and that’s another-reason why I keep my PS3. (And as soon as I get the opportunity of repairing the Red-Blinking-Light-Of-Death on my CECHE01 PS3, I’ll do that and play my PS2 games on it (Armored Core 2, Star Wars Battlefront 1 for PS2, Star Wars Battlefront 2 for PS2, Star Wars Episode 3 for PS2)). (I also *really* want to get a PS2 or PS1 controller to play the PS1 or PS2 games that I have, on PS3, because the Directional-Pad-buttons on the PS3 controller aren’t intended for constant use; they’re intended for OCCASIONAL use. They FEEL different). Also: When they switched to the 3rd-version of the PlayStation-Store, alot of the listings for various games on the 2nd version didn’t get ported-over to the 3rd version (examples that I saw this happening in: James Bond 007 Quantum of Solace, James Bond 007 Blood Stone). Alot of the people who don’t play the classics don’t-know what they’re missing ☹️/🥺.
I have not seen it in several years, since I was a teenager I do miss the PS3 console. Lots of great memories of it during my high school days playing games like Assassin's Creed 2 and Tomb Raider Underworld (On a side note, Keeley Hawes was the best Lara Croft. Fight me)
I still DESPISE Sony for coming out with that BS “update” of theirs, blocking PSP transfers for no good reason. It really felt like they were deliberately giving us owners of the system the middle finger by doing this along with Vita and PS3 owners. It’s even more annoying that they made it so that people had no choice but to either rely on hotspots that can support the PSP or implement friggin’ CUSTOM FIRMWARE on PSP and Vita to get some sort of compensation for this whole situation Sony created themselves! And the fact that they couldn’t be bothered to fix the problem that they caused themselves is even more aggravating to this day!
The ps3 was the best of all in my opinion. The amount of good games, games that just werent 3rd person action games (though there were great ones on ps3) was insane. Felt like the last time a console was truly needed over a PC.
I miss the PS3 store before they changed into what it is now. It was so easy to navigate and I loved the blue background. After the PS4 was announced it went downhill for the PS3 store. And to this day we still have no search bar.
Wow, i am so glad I bought Resident Evil 1, 2, & 3 because they D-listed them from PS3 store😂 On a side note, you won’t lose any access to your classic digital content. My old PS3 got the red light of death, and i had a PS3 Slim and it allowed me to redownload my games (being the Resident evil trilogy for ps1)
Regarding searching for ps1 classics-if you type in "psone" in the search bar, the whole list of available classic games will appear all at once. I've tried typing in the name of a certain game or two and never got any results, but as soon as i began my search as psone it would show up in the search results. Not sure why they made such a shady reach around for finding classic games, but i guess that's just sony being sony lol ^^;
I can still access the 2008 store when you go to purchase some DLCs when you play certain games. MGRR is an example, I can access that old store and is somewhat fully functional. (Or if you happened to mod your PS3, you can set the date on the store to go back to the 2008 store.)
Would be nice if Sony brought ps3 games to work on ps5 Xbox 360 is supported quite well with compatibility and games still getting deals and sales on the store, also getting improved frame rates and graphic settings on series x
I had crysis 3 on ps3. I never finished playing it... When I was looking in the ps store I saw the remastered version for ps4. It hurt my heart to repurchase it when I bought it already from the same digital store 😥
After getting an xbox for the first time (series x) I was impressed by the backwards compatibility and good prices, definitely gave me a new perspective on Sony, they’re greedy.

(1:43) I think that was done in order to have the UI fit on 4:3 aspect ratio TVs. I know this because my parents still had 4:3 aspect ratio CRT TVs in 2008. Game consoles from the 7th videogame console generation seem to generally use the aspect ratio that seems to be known as '16:9 (4:3 safe)', which was a transitional aspect ratio in which content were in widescreen but still used 4:3 scaling so people with older TVs and/or who were stuck with standard definition feeds of pay TV channels could still watch TV programmes. That aspect ratio eventually went away for full 16:9 in the mid 2010s. I only remember this aspect ratio because one of my favourite TV programmes was on air in the early 2010s and used that aspect ratio. (2:00) As someone who never had a PS3 (but played on a friend's PS3), I didn't know games could do that!
That took me back in time :D The last 1 or 2 years of when I was using the PS3 I found the PS3 Store sooooooooooo painfully SLOW :( After getting a PS4 & using the store on that I just hated going into the PS3 store + I know why the Classic games are disappearing for it's Jim Ryan deleting them all on his high end PC while he's playing PS Exclusives on it :D
I still get pleasantly surprised any time I go back to PS3 how discs just boot on the system - no downloads or updates to start. On the other hand, I remember being disappointed when I first popped in a disc in the PS4.
PS3 / Xbox 360 era was the last time developers actually gave a shit about making games before they just got fixated on the graphics and ignoring everything else. Such a wonderful library it had. Games like Last of Us, Uncharted, Red Dead, L.A. Noire, Max Payne 3, BioShock, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 2&3 etc
I loved being able to rip my audio CDs to my PS3 and using custom soundtracks in games. It's a shame that PS4/5 can't even play CDs. At least my Xbox One X can, since I don't have a dedicated CD player, as I'm sure most people don't either.
The lack of sales is also annoying. Sony randomly pulled sales in late 2019 and never brought it back. It's especially annoying for DLC, but I suppose this is why people mod their PS3s anyway.
Interestingly enough Nintendo still has sales on the E-Shop for the Wii U and 3DS and those storefronts are closing within the 9 months so assuming Sony did end up closing the stores we probably would've been stuck paying whatever they charged us before they closed.
@@itzvinnyuwu ps 3 was slow and low res on release dude... And now i see 0 idea why would you buy games for it. Also no idea why would you get ps5 with no games and faulty controllers.

I never, until this video, saw what it looked like before then. Pretty cool. Also somehow didn't know Shakedown Hawaii got a PS3 digital release. I was wondering (this would be a fun one) is there anyway you could do a video covering PS3 store Japan exclusive titles and how well each of those perform (like Silent Hill 4 as part of Japan's PS2 classics lineup)? If you wanted to make a series covering it (should you choose to do it), you could do a full playthrough per video... But it is totally up to you... I got the idea watching this video. Anyways great video.

My personal favorite console and my favorite era of gaming. I had so many games for the PS3 that I loved and still love to this day. I only wish I'd bought a Slim or Super Slim after my second phat model died in 2013. It's pretty hard to come by a decent quality used PS3 around my part of the world.
Well, some days ago I bought the Assassin's Creed DLC's. The Da Vinci Dissapearance, the Multiplayer characters, and even the Season Pass of Assassin's Creed 3 and 4. Was it cheap? No, of course not. You could do so much on this system. You could play games, you would watch movies, you brows the net, rip and use your own music in certain games, you could, at one point, load another OS on it.
What wasn’t there to love?
Only thing not to love was their decision for the 256MB of cache.

As a recent PS5 owner (for 3 months already) I must say the PS Store on it is absolutely amazing.
The only thing I want to be added is to be able to see the full list of my friends who've bought the game I'm browsing, and not only to see the profile pics of 2 or 3 of them.
I am not sure that profile pics deal of friends who own this game is accurate.
@@mrslimee2674 what do you mean?
Are you saying the profile pics of your friends that appear on a game's page on the PS Store are probably incorrect?
@@peterGchaves Yes almost every game I look at it will show the same ones and I know these people are not buying all of these games. I personally know a few of my friends on the list and I know its just not so. The best way to tell if someone is playing the game is to look at their trophy list, if you can and see what they play and ask them if they are still active if it is something you want to play.
@@mrslimee2674 true, I actually thought the same about some games I checked, I was surprised to see the profile pics of certain friends on them 😅
Anyways, checking the trophies lists it's a way, yes, but obviously shouldn't be the only one...

Just got my PS3 setup. The PS One Classics option is completely gone now. Fortunately, Silent Hill and Silent Hill: Origins are still there!!!
Can we use other browsing apps like youtube in ps3 jailbreak version plz ?

Just hopping on the PS3 with my new launch model. So happy the PS3 store is still around, even in its somewhat borked state.
I love this kind of videos, maybe you could do one about the browser one day, what can and can't do
@Mystic:
I wanted to say that I bought a PS3 in March 2011, because it’s when I *finally* could afford one and *finally* had managed to accumulate enough paychecks to be able to get one.
I have not seen it in several years, since I was a teenager
I do miss the PS3 console. Lots of great memories of it during my high school days playing games like Assassin's Creed 2 and Tomb Raider Underworld
(On a side note, Keeley Hawes was the best Lara Croft. Fight me)
Your name reminds me of a friend i used to play with back in the day on gta
Just hooked my ps3 back up yesterday. This is awesome!
This channel is underrated. The only youtuber I know that covers ps3 thoroughly
I loved the PlayStation classics on PS3, to this day I still play Legend of Dragoon and Mega Man Legends on PS3.
I haven't been on my ps3 or ps vita since this update happened. I probly should turn my auto updates off before gling into ps store.😅
Move on
This is why I hack my systems
Doing the custom firmware on the Vita is especially worth it so you can use SD cards. I would recommend it
@@nicholassimmons5318 I reluctantly did that already weeks ago but when it comes to using my PSP, it’s a different story there.
For any persona fans, the persona arena games actually take you back to that old psn store when you try to buy dlc in game.
The ps3 was the best of all in my opinion. The amount of good games, games that just werent 3rd person action games (though there were great ones on ps3) was insane. Felt like the last time a console was truly needed over a PC.
I wish I was on more frequently. My second PS3 kicked the bucket which is why I want Backward compatibility on PS5 so bad
I miss the PS3 store before they changed into what it is now. It was so easy to navigate and I loved the blue background. After the PS4 was announced it went downhill for the PS3 store. And to this day we still have no search bar.
I still use the og store today. I know how to access it.
You can clearly see in the video a search bar
almost done trophy hunting on ps3 and vita 😁 I say that and always find a couple games I want to 100%
Wow, i am so glad I bought Resident Evil 1, 2, & 3 because they D-listed them from PS3 store😂
On a side note, you won’t lose any access to your classic digital content. My old PS3 got the red light of death, and i had a PS3 Slim and it allowed me to redownload my games (being the Resident evil trilogy for ps1)
I had bought toy story 2 on ps3 and when PlayStation updated to the tier system and released ps4/5 versions I got them automatically 👏🏽
Regarding searching for ps1 classics-if you type in "psone" in the search bar, the whole list of available classic games will appear all at once.
I've tried typing in the name of a certain game or two and never got any results, but as soon as i began my search as psone it would show up in the search results.
Not sure why they made such a shady reach around for finding classic games, but i guess that's just sony being sony lol ^^;
I can still access the 2008 store when you go to purchase some DLCs when you play certain games. MGRR is an example, I can access that old store and is somewhat fully functional.
(Or if you happened to mod your PS3, you can set the date on the store to go back to the 2008 store.)
I use the debug to use the og store today. I haven’t touched the garbage slow store in a while.
Mass Effect 2 used to do this for me, not sure if it's been changed
Modern Warfare 3 lets you access the old store as well. Although you can't do things like search for things in the store. Just redownload list
