In the DVD commentary, the director says that he was laughing so hard, he had to crouch down behind the cameraman, so as not to distract Austin Pendleton & spoil the scene. Love this scene, no matter how many times I watch it, MY CLIENT DIDN'T KILL ANYONE...
I loved watching this movie. And when the stuttering attorney got up to speak, and was trying to get out what he was trying too, I laughed so hard that I was crying. And no' I'm not making fun of people who do have a stuttering problem at all. Because sometimes I get like that, if I start talking to fast. But' it was still funny.
Did not see this coming the first time I watched it; then you have to see it again and again because it seems so authentic, funny and agonizing all at the same time. Memorable and mesmerizing piece of acting. He took the words from the script and created something real special. The only other time I laughed so hard at a secondary character's performance was in the Seinfeld episode with the mohel.
Im a stutterer and I can laugh at this til I cry. Its so funny to see people and their reactions, but the scene does really show how tough it can be to talk and use any position, hand movement, or eye contact to get through your stutter. Now I want to know if the guy playing him really stutters. Great movie.
I'm a stutterer too. And yes, the actor does have a slight stutter but he incredibly never does on camera. Watch the commentary and the director explains it in this scene.
Austin Pendleton does have a stutter, which he has mostly managed. The director knew this and specifically wanted him to play the role because he would have an understanding of it that other performers wouldn't. I agree, as another stutterer, that I've used ALL the tactics that he's used to manage my stutter. ...I'm a public school teacher! The better rested I am, the better it goes, but there are just Bad Stuttering Days. My students are SUPER patient with me, and I think being able to laugh at ourselves is a HUGE help, too.
I met Austin Pendleton (stuttering lawyer) last year at a theater show in New York. He was a really nice guy. Very quiet and reserved, but still friendly and approachable. Had to wait a long time to talk to him after the show. He's a good actor.
I'm a stutter and i admit this is one of the best stuttering imitation I've seen in a movie. Sometimes i feel exactly how he portrays himself to be feeling. I don't think anyone can act that well unless he himself stutters.
Shane Bales: Objection sustained. One more misspelled out-burst like that and Benito M will be thrown from this courtroom, then duly charged for the crime of bad grammar. Sentencing will be as follows. The improper use of 'Their' = 5 years supervised grammar school probation. The improper use of 'There' = 10 years in the pound-me-in-the-ass-prison.
They must've done about 100 takes of this scene as everyone must've been cracking up on the set while he was going through the stuttering shtick. Hysterical.
Objection sustained. loro1rojo's reply has been stricken from the record. Another outburst like that from you, Mr. 1rojo and you'll be escorted out of this courtroom.
Honestly guys and gals, this dude should have won an Oscar for this scene. Genuinely, effortlessly, comedic gold. That sigh and head shake around 2:10 .... I just cant hold in the laughter. He's so frustrated and angry and disappointed in himself. Love Austin Pendleton. Let's not forget how brilliant Fred Gwynne was in this movie. Anyone remember him in that South Park episode where theyre riffing on Pet Semetary? Also, "everything that guy just said is bullshit" is f'n fantastic.
Austin Pendleton aka Stuttering Lawyer did a great job. Stan.."That's it....what about everything we talked about?" Lawyer "well, I get a little nervous." Stan.."a little nervous?" Lawyer "I'm gettin' better!" As Stuttering Lawyer stood up and patted Stan on the back as a comforting jester, I can imagine him thinking.. "Don't worry son, I'll have you convicted and locked up in the state penitentiary before midnight." lol
This dude deserves an Oscar for that performance, that was spot on, that is me on a bad day... i was in hysterics when i saw this... at the same time i felt like i should never attempt to speak again unless in an emergency
I saw this film on IMDB top court room drama and started watching it, initially I thought what a luck movie is this with so ridiculous weak plot but gradually I started liking it and the acting, expression, reaction of each & every actors (except the victims) was so great and hilarious that this became my greatest comedy produced by Hollywood with 'Baby's day out".
how did he even become a lawyer stuttering like that.? thats why its so funny in this movie, great acting he conveyed the frustration of getting the words out.
Fun fact! The actor in this scene as the public defender didn’t tell anyone that he would be acting drunk, which is why everyone else in the background is laughing their asses off. The more you know!
A.P. is such a sweetheart. I just worked with him this past week. A woman asked me if that was him from this movie and when I confirmed he gladly took a picture with her.
Brilliantly, simply funny-This is real, genuine, plain "funny". Today, the movie would be boycotted for being making fun of people with speech impediment. Man.
To borrow a phrase from the Seinfeld show: "That's gold Jerry, gold!" The scene is so funny, agonizing and genuine in terms of facing and persevering through the frailties all we humans have.
I love everything Austin Pendelton does. He's a national freakin' treasure!
That stuttering attorney should have received an Oscar for that comedic performance!!!! ROFL!! BEST SCENE SPOT!!! HAHAHAHA!!! LOL
I actually thought he was Biden. 😂.
In the DVD commentary, the director says that he was laughing so hard, he had to crouch down behind the cameraman, so as not to distract Austin Pendleton & spoil the scene. Love this scene, no matter how many times I watch it, MY CLIENT DIDN'T KILL ANYONE...
Saw this movie with my Grandma when I was 11-12. I've still yet to see her laugh like that. hahaha
I remember the first time I watched this scene. I laughed so hard my throat gutted, tears ran from my eyes &, stomach cramped.
Gotta love that final wave the public defender gives to the judge at 2:35!!
one of the BEST scenes EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"BU-- BUT!!" That little snippet invades my brain almost every day.
One of the greatest comedies and films in general ever made :D
I loved watching this movie. And when the stuttering attorney got up to speak, and was trying to get out what he was trying too, I laughed so hard that I was crying. And no' I'm not making fun of people who do have a stuttering problem at all. Because sometimes I get like that, if I start talking to fast. But' it was still funny.
The way that guy jumps back at 2:15 when the lawyer starts spitting gets me every time
Did not see this coming the first time I watched it; then you have to see it again and again because it seems so authentic, funny and agonizing all at the same time. Memorable and mesmerizing piece of acting. He took the words from the script and created something real special. The only other time I laughed so hard at a secondary character's performance was in the Seinfeld episode with the mohel.
Uh, everything that guy just said is bullshit. Thank you.
Should be the response to everything a politician says.
LOL
I love the little wave he did at 2:33 like he's a talk show host walking offstage. He thinks he killed it!
First time I ever saw this scene, I laughed so hard I almost died.
Johnny Serret Same, because it was just so unexpected. Lol
I did die.
I'm posting this from the afterlife.
My family are suing for wrongful death.
@@smartalek180 You are a smart alec that rides a buggy?
Jjjjjury!
yeah.. i saw this many times and laughed each time. this actor , joe pesci and fred gwynne should all have been given an award..

+Matthew Cannon okay great tip. thanks man
He does stutter in real life.
Austin Pendleton does have a stutter, which he has mostly managed. The director knew this and specifically wanted him to play the role because he would have an understanding of it that other performers wouldn't.

One of funniest movie scenes ever.....one of funniest movies ever....this one gets me every time! 😂😂😂😂
I met Austin Pendleton (stuttering lawyer) last year at a theater show in New York. He was a really nice guy. Very quiet and reserved, but still friendly and approachable. Had to wait a long time to talk to him after the show. He's a good actor.
Wow I actually though it was Biden. Sounds like him 😂. I'm sorry Mr Pendleton. My dearest apology. I think I need my eyeglasses.
Seems like a cool guy.
@@billydoyle9984 I see your point about the Biden remark. Lol
JURE-RAY!
I'm a stutter and i admit this is one of the best stuttering imitation I've seen in a movie. Sometimes i feel exactly how he portrays himself to be feeling. I don't think anyone can act that well unless he himself stutters.
You're right; Austin Pendleton also has a stutter.
You're a stutter? Are you sure? Would you like to review that?😅
The stuttering attorney looked like Mr. Rogers.😂😂😂
Actually looks and sounds like (p) resident Biden. 😂
"I'm getting better." That's all you can really ask in a defense attorney.
h
there called "public defenders for a reason"!😊
+Benito M
*They're
why is this so damn hard for people.

@@benitom3460 Actually "public defenders" are good. A lot of them are high-payed attorneys who want "public service" to enhance their C.V.s
This is the greatest comedy of all time.
I die every time he had to use the juror's shoulder for support.
🔥😂
They must've done about 100 takes of this scene as everyone must've been cracking up on the set while he was going through the stuttering shtick. Hysterical.
2:33 This whole scene is a friggin riot but I love "the wave" to the judge afterward.
Dude! That wave on the way back, its just the icing on the cake. So brilliant.
This damn scene, no matter how many years later I see it, it always makes me laugh without control..."B..B..BBBUUUUT!!!"
😂😂😂😂
Sounds exactly like Biden
If you ignore the stuttering, the opening statement is on point.
Randy Bailin wrong. The opening was total shit.
The jury will please disregard loro1rojo's statement
Objection sustained. loro1rojo's reply has been stricken from the record. Another outburst like that from you, Mr. 1rojo and you'll be escorted out of this courtroom.

I've stuttered my entire life. This is funny as hell.
This video made me laugh so hard that I got tears in my eyes
The expression he does at 2:24 just kills me every time.
Omg...Rotf!😂😂😂 poor bastard is exhausted.

Watch Stanley in the background when the public defender gets up. He has to turn away in disgust. The look on his face is priceless Haha!
That confident double pat on the back by the second attorney 😂
the jury does their part in making this a hilarious scene..
+dustin blair I agree, their faces were hilarious. Especially the guy who had his mouth open...that was priceless.

This dude deserves an Oscar for that performance, that was spot on, that is me on a bad day... i was in hysterics when i saw this... at the same time i felt like i should never attempt to speak again unless in an emergency
best scene in the entire movie, i almost passed out from every word he tried so hard to pronounce lmaoffs
"And you Mr Gambini...You will not use that kind of language in my court, you understand Me?!"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah!"
Putz
I'm holding you in contempt of court
Around the 2 minute mark, the actors at the defendants table are breaking up laughing in the background and trying to hide it.
+Randy Bailin no way an actor can go through that scene without laughing... it was hilarious. I can never get over it...
I didn't notice that before. I can truly see why, as Austin Pendleton does a great job in that role.
I saw that too😂😂
I've never noticed that! The guy playing Stan even has too look away because he's laughing so hard!
But it's hard to see it's so blury
“On January FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFourth of this year...”

OMG, Stanley is Barry on Friends! I knew he looked familiar on Friends
Stuttering lawyer was perfect for this role.......
"If you cannot afford a lawyer one will be appointed by the state to represent you in a court of law"! Ah,,,,,,,,,,,,yeah?????
1:50 this guy reaction is absolutely hilarious
I’m a stutterer too (even more severe than this character), but this scene has me cracking up every time.
Great movie with lots of great scenes. But this is my favorite. Austin Pendleton is spectacularly funny here.
As a stutterer myself I know exactly how he feels, the old man's reaction is priceless lol
!:51 his face always kills me
1:26 When you do a presentation in school :S
What's more funny is that the stuttering lawyer, Austin Pendleton, played the judge in Trial & Error a few years later with Michael Richards.
Me when I have to present in front of the class
I have not laughed harder anywhere else than in this movie.
It's out of focus but in the back around 2:00 you can see the actors at the defendant's bench losing it in laughter over this performance. :)
He actually use to talk like that
I wonder how many takes it took for the jurors to keep straight faces
the black guys face tho lol
"Everything that guy just said is bullshit." What a legend.
This movie..my my..everything worked...can not make anything like this any more...masterpiece....so real so funny....

Stuttering lawyer played by austin pendleton
Joanne Georgiades in real life he has a stutter
Every actor in this scene deserves an Oscar for managing to keep a straight face
1.51 I'm done 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
This guy in real life actually has a slight stuttering problem, which made him perfect for the role. At least he was willing to make fun of himself.
