The Boerboel is revered as a guardian of homesteads is some of Africa's most treacherous land. The breed is a guardian, hunter, and all around farm dog.
These dogs were often the first line of defense against predators and were valuable in tracking and holding down wounded game. Old farmers told many a tale of the strength, agility and courage of the Boerboel. The dangers and harsh conditions of southern Africa allowed only the fittest to survive. The protective character of the Boerboel is today still evident and is much sought after, as is the calm, stable and confident composure of the breed. The origin and purpose of the Boerboel should be understood in order to preserve the unique identity and qualities of the breed as a South African developed mastiff. Type, conformation, functional efficiency and mentality are equally important in the evaluation of the Boerboel as a whole. The Boerboel is a large dog that is strong, confident and muscular in appearance with powerful, free-flowing movement. When observing a Boerboel at play or work, standing or moving, it should show strength, suppleness, nimbleness and agility.

the reason i like this particular dog is its stature, long legged, not overly set, my 6mo corso comes from lines with this similar structure, i see a lot of corso's nowadays short and stocky, which is all well and good, each to their own, but my guy, loki, has a longer leg and body, huge feet (which i hope he grows into :) and a very similar disposition, calm, fairly reserved around strangers and indifferent to them, but never up front aggression, i know he is bite capable as he's already done this in a live situation. I'm living down in the heel of italy where the corso comes from and the breeders here stay with the formula if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. Too many breeders try to either create their own thing, or mess around with an already great line. Great channel dude and i'm always on the lookout for new videos

my boerboel puppys father weighs from the 190s to up to 200 depending on the time of year, yet he(like all well bred boerboels) is very big yet very agile...he has taken agility test were he rated at levels near trained top of the line german shepards(german shepards and collies are among the most agile dogs), and can run over 32mph (faster than other dogs except greyhounds, whippets and a few other small, ultra fast breeds)...so theres no excuse for a Boerboel to weigh 130 pounds, because the most agile/fastest boerboels still weigh between 170-200 pounds, and are the fastest, and most agile large dogs out there and still the 3rd largest dog breed while having the strongest jaw bite

For you SIZE QUEENS I have had the pleasure of spending time with Sabir when he was with Tashi and there is nothing small about him (this includes his bone, head and girth). I am close to 5'7 and his back hit me right below my hip bone. It should be more about the functionality of the dog instead of what you perceive as a "small boerboel". Do any of you all know what it feels like to have a dog of this size running at you then slamming it's mass into you? That's a lot of dog! This is a dog in good condition not 25/30lbs overweight like most boerboels. Brad, your doing a great job!! Keep it up! Sabir looks awesome!!

Thank you. Sabir, my Boerboel, is more "boerhound" in type. The show fancy and appraisal people seem to prefer the wider and shorter dogs now. I prefer a rangy dog, better heat tolerance and performance.
Anyway, I'm a moving target when it comes to breed interest. So I can't really say there's a specific breed I'm looking for. For me it's more about the dog than the breed, like the fact Sabir is a Boerboel doesn't mean too much to me. He's a good dog. A good dog is a good dog, and their remarkably hard to find nowadays.
I'm moving away from the larger dogs, looking at replacing many of my large hunting dogs for smaller breeds like the jagdterrier. I love the big dogs, but I think it's time for me to move away from them so I can dedicate more time to my family.

Very informative. I am considering this breed to live with me in the country for protection. I have owned Boxers, Dobermans, and American Bulldogs. So far I like what I see, but further research is needed. I hope I find someone like you or the lady you mentioned to buy from and talk to about the breed.

That is not a boerboel. It is much too long legged, racy and narrow. This animal doesn’t even look like a 50/50 cross between a boerboel and another breed. It looks like it has at least 3 breeds in it’s immediate ancestry. What a crock of a video.

I think he is right. So many times ...many times...guys think that a good protection dog is a huge overly aggressive dog that is overly protective. A dog that won't out on command is what I see a lot of with these types.

Most of the comments here are like: "ah! that's skinny / I am from zouth afrika and that-z not a boorbuul / that's not a pure-bred dog / bla bla bla"
read the title: "BOERBOEL A SOUTH AFRICAN MASTIFF TRAINED FOR CIVIL AGGRESSION"
I have looked around for a Boerboel that meets the standard... but then one has to find on who's standar!? AKC's, SAAB's, European's, Russian's?
95% of the Boerboels of Africa and maybe the world are bred to be guard dogs and many show dogs.
This line, for civil aggression, is focusing of self protection dogs which have to be both balanced mentally and athletic in order to be functional, why the "lankiness"... and even like this, it's much more healthier structure wise than those weighing 180lb and above.
It's like the German Shepherd, go find a GS working line and the show line, are both so different and the healthiest is the working line. Why can't it happen with the Boerboel too?

Hope that Toshy gets her website together soon, I want a PP dog, I now have a 7 month old female Presa, she is showing some guarding, but won't be sure till another few months, I wanted another Presa but I'm not sure, I've only found 1 breeder who does imprinting for Presa's. this is my first dog, and we're moving from the city to rural setting w/33 acres, very soon.

Websites aren't Tashi's strongest area, unfortunately. ;) Working dogs is!
Also feel free to look up her dogs on OFA's Database for Health Testing under the kennel name "Dichotomy". She also tests for HUU, although those results aren't reflected on the OFA site. Dichotomy has more health tested dogs than any other breeder -she even tests non-breeding dogs!

Your dog has a problem with his left hind leg. He has a gait problem. The muscles in that left hing legs should not be twitching like that. You might want to see a vet.

It's unfortunate that people often get dogs without realizing the responsibility that goes along with it. These large dogs can be troublesome if not trained/ integrated with your family. Its way more than feeding them and taking them to the vet. Also people do not realize that there are major differences in breeds and some dogs are bread to have a lot of energy and they need to get that energy out... with play/training etc... I have an Alaskan Malamute and this is a pretty hefty task just for him lol so don't go off buying dogs you think look cool etc... because they are much like children in that they need stimulation and learning etc.. to become a functioning member of your household.
