My oldest ancestor in America was the first minister of the Old Dutch Church. He was also the minister for the Dutch church in Tappan, NY where British spy John Andre was tried. I've always loved my family's connection to this church and legend of Sleepy Hollow.

I just discovered your videos and each one that I have watched just endears me to you both more and more. This one especially is amazing for me. My grandfather's birthday was on Halloween. My mom, pregnant with me, my dad and my 10 mo old brother was at his house celebrating, my dad was watching the Wonderful World of Disney showing the Legend of Sleepy Hollow when my mom started labor pains. My dad insisted she could wait for the end of the show and then he took her to the hospital where I was born just moments after they got there. So I share my Halloween birthday with my grandfather and my love for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with my dad! And now I have this awesome video to share with h as well! Thank you for what you do!

Fun fact, Washington Irving was the first American author to be known outside of the United States. In addition to Sleepy Hollow, Rip Van Winkle, and the biography of George Washington. Yes, I did check this out just to verify. I also learned to speed type with his work. The first chapter of Sleepy Hollow is the five-minute test. I really love the way you present these places. What makes this story interesting is that the Washington Irving story made Ichabod Crane a schoolteacher; the movie, Tim Burton did a fabulous job with the tale as he turned Sleepy Hollow into an early version of Peyton Place with Lady Van Tassel as the 'Village Bicycle' so-to-speak, and Ichabod Crane as a constable investigating the multiple beheadings.

As a child I grew up in Upstate, way Upstate right where the indent is from Lake Ontario. I had been to Sleepy Hollow being an absolute fan of horror from the ripe old age of 5...that would place it at 1965! You missed the Rip VanWinkle house also in Sleepy Hollow! I absolutely adore "Baby Ghoul" as you are me back in the day! I love everything about the two of you and your precious love for each and tremendous storytelling! Long story short I now reside in Farmington, New Mexico...high mountain desert. Breathtakingly beautiful in it's ancient savage ways but oh so different from NY. There are times I miss it so bad I hurt...until winter of course. Which I adore but my body does not. I remember the days of sledding on "Rose Red' on the back street and shaking up a root beer to blast in the then pristine snow for the best sno-cone ever! Oh my......how I miss it. At 63 Baby Ghoul reminds me that physically we age but for us fortunate ones we will always be a child at heart...never change and you sir spin a delightful tale so worth listening to! 👻🦹🧟♀🫂🎃🎃🎃🎃⚰⚰🪦🪦you get the picture...giggle!! God bless my Halloween Brethren!
I was there just after that movie came out and the place looked nothing like it does now. Graves have been moved, trees trimmed, place cleaned up. It sure looks like the town cares for it's heritage now, whereas when I was there they didn't. Not much. The Old Dutch Church i saw was white, wood and looked exactly like the one in the Burton movie including the white picket fence. That seems to be gone now. Fire? Who knows? The town itself had zero tourist stuff. Not a single tourist stuff store. I talked to a few locals. Mostly from PR, they did not like the horseman story at all. Guess all that changed too.

I love that you guys came to sleepy hollow. You were only about 20 mins from my house , I wish I had met you two. You definitely have to come back and do the night tour of the Cemetery.
Great video. My wife and I go there for Halloween almost every year. I highly recommend to take the lantern tour at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery during Halloween time. I think they have tours as late as 9-10 pm . Everyone on the tour carries oil lanterns and the creepy factor of the cemetery gets so much better that late at night. Also, you hear people screaming in the distance at the haunted house mixed with chainsaws. The highlight: they bring you inside one of the locked tombs where they filmed a scene from the 1970 film "House of Dark Shadows" . It was the crypt of Barnabas Collins. Also, check out Lyndhurst Estate that also was the filming location for the film. Sunnyside is great on the weekends during Halloween. They have a shadow puppet play, story tellers, etc.
My 8th Great-grandfather, Dirk Storm, is buried at the Old Dutch Burial Ground there. He moved to New Amsterdam (New York) in 1685, and became one of the first Dutchmen to record the histories of most of the small villages that would eventually become Brooklyn and Queens. He moved to Sleepy Hollow in 1700 and died there in 1716. His grandson, my 6th Great-grandfather, Capt. Thomas Storm, fought at the Battle of White Plains with the 2nd New York Militia.

Sleepy Hollow is my favorite fall/Halloween story. The book, The old Disney cartoon, the Tim Burton film and I loved the tv show from 2013-2016. The first couple seasons were great. Nothing says fall like the many versions of the story of Ichabod and the Horseman.
I love re-watching this episode. This is one of the best ones you have ever done in my opinion. I have loved this legend since childhood, first by watching the Disney animated tale and later actually reading it!
Absolutely one of my favorite stories, Disney movies, and motion pictures starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci‼️😃 Thank you for this episode, GLC! ☺️ 17:40 This area reminds me of Sligo Creek Park in Washington D.C. 21:21 Awww. This is THE BEST part of the segment. ☺️💕 What a beautiful couple.

The grave of the actual Ichabod Crane is in a tiny cemetery in the woods in Staten Island NY. You can actually go and see it. Crane was apparently a friend of Irving’s and the inspiration for the character.

This is by far my favorite episode! Sleepy Hollow the movie is great, the actual town is superb. I love the way you showed it.
Just discovered your channel and am currently binging. Love how you have an insightful respectful and intelligent way of presenting some pretty interesting topics. It's also pretty cool how your appearance seems to scare people or at least draw some gawkers to stare .one thing I should mention is how beautiful your wife's hair matches the fall colors in this video. Happy to subscribe .
I was born on April 3rd as well but in 1959....And I love Washington Irving's work....GREAT video. I love the history's you tell as well. Thanks and keep up the good works...
My husband and I got married in Halloween this year. We watch all of your videos and now want to go on a lot of road trips!! You guys are awesome!!!
I love that you guys came to sleepy hollow. You were only about 20 mins from my house , I wish I had met you two. You definitely have to come back and do the night tour of the Cemetery.
You should meet them and they could throughougly cover the rest of what they missed
@@jeangriffith6498 that would be a dream for sure
Thank You
Yes, thank you! Hopefully, my family and I will visit during Halloween!
I love how your wife is crossing the bridge and the leaves are attached to her beautiful dress. It’s as if they are saying take me with your
I just found this channel, Im AMAZED how good you guys are.
"Fallen leaves!?!" You've got to be from California, lol. I did the same thing when I moved to the South from California: Falling leaves , fire flies smell of wood smoke... yes, I was Just like a kid. It's those little things..
You two are so sweet together! ❤
Jessica is so adorable. Watching her crunch the leaves was great. Your videos just keep getting better. I love the longer videos! Keep being Grimm!
U love Jessica too...I love them as a pair 💓
The original bridge actually wasnt a covered bridge. That was a Disney invention. But great video!
Absolutely one of my favorite stories, Disney movies, and motion pictures starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci‼️😃 Thank you for this episode, GLC! ☺️
17:40 This area reminds me of Sligo Creek Park in Washington D.C.
21:21 Awww. This is THE BEST part of the segment. ☺️💕 What a beautiful couple.
I agree with the movie being a fave! Very underrated Tim Burton creation and good cast. The feel of that movie transports you there, to that time and place..just like the REAL Sleepy Hollow does as a visitor.
@@keithfloydjr4014 Okay, now I need to watch the version you so convincingly recommended to us all.
@@marianserra8371 oh please do! Tim Burton’s rendition was quite good and entertaining. Here’s behind the scenes which doesn’t give away much: ua-cam.com/video/C47jRQLoLQI/v-deo.html
@@lianalonge1984 Thank you for sharing and may I say what a beautiful first name you have.? 💜
I lovvve the Disney cartoon and the movie with Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci
I came across this video because of doing Sleepy Hollow research. At first, I thought it to be just another personal vacay video but it turned out pretty cool! Beautiful dress! Thanks for sharing!
I had no idea sleepy hollow was an actual phisical place! Well done guys! 👏
Theres a sleepy hollow illinois too.
The love they have for history and each other is amazing
Outstanding. My favorite Halloween story & movie. I love how the town owns it, too.
there's an unmarked grave of the soldier who inspired the headless horseman, but every video I've seen on Sleepy hollow, people can't find it
As a city dweller, thank you for capturing and sharing these inspiring natural scenes and sounds!
Where I grew up, we had a creek and a crick. It was a very.small town. We watch The Legend of Sleepy Hollow every Halloween. The version narrated by Bing Crosby.
I really enjoy your videos. They are very interesting, well researched and good visuals. This was my favorite episode from you two.
The grave of the actual Ichabod Crane is in a tiny cemetery in the woods in Staten Island NY. You can actually go and see it. Crane was apparently a friend of Irving’s and the inspiration for the character.
Very cool vlog you guys! I'm probably gonna watch this alot! LOL I have a giant tree in front of my living room window with a bench with tons of leaves falling! It's beautiful! Yes the sound and smell are my favorite!🖤🍁🍂🍁🍂Love you guys🦇🦉🎃👻Happy Halloween( it's everyday for me too...)
The first of my "THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW" video collection!
I love your passion for life!! Watching Baby Ghoul crush leaves makes me smile!! Thank you!!
Wow, didn’t realize how gorgeous this place really is.
These two are adorable. You can tell they're deeply in love and have, albeit creepy, shared interests, but the history behind it all is so interesting. Thank you for sharing your historical journeys.
I love the story of sleepy hollow, the headless horseman, and Ichabod Crane 🔥🎃🐎

I actually went to "Washington Irving Grade School from Kindergarten to the Middle of 5th grade.
In 3rd grade, my teacher Mrs. Thompson, wanted us to do a "Halloween Book Report". And I didn't know what to do mine on... So SHE suggested that I look up the School's "Name sake". When I asked her "WHY?" She said, "Joe... Trust me... You'll See?!"
THIS Lead me to a LIFE LONG LOVE of his works INCLUDING of course "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" but ALSO Horror Movies, Books and Stories and also of course MY FAV Holiday... "HALLOWEEN"! :D

Crik here too 😂 I'm with Jessica on the level of leaf crunchiness. So disappointing when they look crunchy but aren't. 😂
You guys really rock! Thanks for making these videos. I am hooked. The narration is very good and you do a great service to the local businesses that you profile.
Im new to your channel and i just love it! This is by far the most amazing thing ive seen in some time. I would love for you to visit Salem, and cover the culture over there!
This was great guys! I live on Long Island NY and have been up to Sleepy Hollow several times. It's an awesome place to visit..so rich with history. Doesn't hurt that this is my all time fav story. Washington Irving's estate is really cool as well. Maybe when you move to Sleepy Hollow you'll have the time to see it..ha
The creek is beautiful.I like the way you talk to your wife. Its so loving and respectful.
I’m going to have to reread the book! Also those Maple leaves are huge.

So sad on those three children 😢
I have to say what passion you have for history, and your beliefs .if you ever cross the pond to England you would love pendle Hill and the eery feeling it has, and the history I dont know if you can find when the pendle witch trials started but it is a interesting subject you guys take care stay safe
I’ve been to Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown only twice and it stole my heart the first time. It is completely magical and rich in history and lore and beautiful architecture. So many points of interest and activities, especially in the Fall. The nighttime cemetery tour was INSANE. You two would have LOVED that! The Great Pumpkin Blaze in nearby Bethpage is spectacular as well. So many things! Loved this vlog you guys 😘 Happy Halloween 🎃🧟♂️
Fun Fact: SING SING PRISON is also in town right along the Hudson!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I am pretty sure I didn't see the animated Sleepy Hollow film, but my earliest memory from when I was a kid, was seeing the Scooby Doo episode of it, which I love.
I stumbled upon this channel because of the Danzig spooky bricks video. You guys must have the best time checking out all these awesome places. I can thank my intrest in heavy music for finding this. Graveyards, abandoned buildings, famous places! Coolest job ever!
Watching this as inspired me to watch the film 🎥 from 2000 with Johnny Depp 🇬🇧
I can picture Jessica playing Katrina Van Tassel. She would be perfect. And I am happy to know that it's not just me and my husband who are adults who love not only the live action movie, but the 1949 cartoon version. 💖🐎
You guys are adorable and very informative! 🇺🇸🙌🏻
My favorite story of all times!!...Thank you for taking the time to go there and show us this beautiful place!
My home town!!!!! I grew up in the neighborhood above the copper statue on route 9 near the bridge.
I love you guys. I can always count on you for an extra awesome experience. 💙
I'm really surprised by how green everything is there. In Nov I expected it to be in full Autumn foliage of reds and oranges. That was kind of disapointing. I'm so excited by the bridge and cemetery though, I want to visit some time soon. It's enchanting.
I have to say that this video was amazing. I love the story of sleepy hollow. And you guys taking us there brings it to life. Sorry to know some places were closed. But all n all I enjoyed ever minute. Jessica's dress with the leaves stick to her was cute. It too brought some of the story to life as well. 🥰. Onto the next you guys. Hugs from me to you both. 🎃
Nice piece of history! You guys look so cute together and you two are an amazing team! Keep on the good work! Goolish greetings from Belgium 😃
