I bet drilling out those holes in the headstock would be a headache since they're off centre with the veneer... would be a good idea to glue some dowels in and fill the holes before you attempt to drill them cos those holes will push the drill sideways and cause chewing up the veneer. be interesting to see how you tackled that.
13:53 bravo on filling the neck joint seams. I'll be doing this as well on my Stewmac LP kit... to me that's the kinda attention to detail that next levels these type of projects. Do the job as good as a guy in a custom shop would do it and you can turn a decent kit into an awesome guitar.
Recolouring my Epiphone now as an AFD, it's almost too orange now, Tempted to just dye it, I like the yellow a bit better actually. I have the Iron Gear Tesla Shark pickups, they're really good
Turned out PERFECT. But, the way you had it the first time was just fine, as well. I've seen several versions of his Appetite Burst LP and they shades all vary from a lighter more yellow color to a more orange color. Either way, looks great!
Yeah just look at the number in the neck pickup cavity changed between first and second video - also first one had a bunch of yellow dye pooled in the cavities and that disappeared as well
i just saw so many of the epiphones and far eastern and guitars rip off or nots were always the yellow color. which i also thought was sweet, but his real one is way more butterscotch so i found just adding more yellow real mucked the flames up, so i figured adding just a touch of orange would make it a bit more true to the color. really a more brownish color is what the gibson resembles. but the beauty of these vids is if your doing your own you can do whatever color you want, so you can really take these videos as a template and make a sick les paul for around 400 bucks and that with upgraded tuners and 59 alnico II pickups and the whole 9 yards. its actually quite astonishing with what you can do when you don't waste cash on name brand pups and hardware and go for similar aftermarket stuff, you can make a personalized les paul literally like a custom shop for 100 bucks more than buying a chibson straight out of the box, which you then have to upgrade and end up running cost to 6 or 7 hundred bucks. or even more in some cases. thats was my whole thing with this video series. thank brother i appreciate it.
@@jam-session-tv the yellow you had going looked pretty nice, kind reminiscent of Joe perry's boneyard LP, but for sure Slashs AFD is the more orange you have going on now!
I'm wondering if you had test fit the neck joint a few times and shape it to prevent those gaps? I've seen the builders at Gibson do that with files and sanding until they got it just right.
RKDriver I always thought Les Pauls had a pocket routed into the neck to make a joint so you wouldn't have to worry about adjusting anything it just slides right in
I ordered the Spalted Top LP DIY kit and I cannot even wait to get started. I really want it a "mint" green with darker grain... Maybe some blue in there, idk, sky is the limit... Is the ColorTone Orange you got through SM that same stuff as the stamp ink? Have you ever mixed 2 different inks together? I wanna get the coolest mint possible so I might need to mix to get there. Any advice would be kick ass! Also, your video is the most informative one yet. This is clean. Nice work. I plan on recording mine as well.
IGNITE GAMING he uses way to much no need to scoop every bit out litterally 3 tables spoons and its great. this is his first build though so he is learning i think he did a decent job with everything until he used way to much of the grain filler and trashed the back.
also if your looking for some good pickups check out the Tesla sharks by iron gear there a British pickups manufacturer there alnico II pickups based around Slash's alnico II signature pickups as i think it states in the description of the pickups on the site there around 42-43dollars a pickups aswell and sound pretty great for the money
i was thinking about that, I'm leaning towards import because i prefer the screw driver adjustment. also i have an extra one i can put in here. plus like you said its spaced for that already.
I have seen others attach the neck before finishing the body or neck. Why doesn’t anyone wait until last to attach the neck? That is what I would do, and that is what bolt on neck manufacturers do.
I mean I feel you with the Gibson logo on a kit guitar but this is supposed to be a copy of Slash's Gibson so I guess it makes sense. If I were doing this (and I'm trying to decide whether or not its worth doing) I would still put the Gibson veneer on it
While adding the Gibson headstock veneer might look cool, with all the guitars people are trying to pass as true Gibsons this is something IMO I would never do. To me it's kind of hypocritical to keep saying you want this guitar to be "your own" then slap the Gibson logo on it. I realize you're looking to make a Slash Les Paul clone but adding the Gibson logo on it goes to far. If I was going to make a 1960's Shelby Mustang clone out of a plain Jane Ford Mustang there is always a title that shows that it's really only a Ford Mustang dressed up. There is no title for a guitar proving what it really is. A true collector would know this is not a Gibson in 2 seconds but the average Joe would not. Advertising this as a Gibson might even get you in trouble if their lawyers found out. Just my .02.
No need to remove a plastic nut. My Squier Tele has one and holds perfect tune, just color in between the slots with a lead pencil. Anyone who claims plastic is garbage is really just cork sniffing.
look at the Harley Benton Paradise Amber flame. it's a veneer and is without a doubt the best looking LP Style ever. Hate the orange! The black is wat makes it pop. I love Slash but he has been known to play some shitty looking guitars. Like the Gold Top and that jack-o'-lantern u just made. eBay, Eytchpi42's page Harley Benton SC 550. Oh, it also has some of the best sounding pickups I've EVER heard. They are Wilkinson's but God Damn they are sweet to my ear. I was going to put teSLASHARKS in mine but I would NEVER! SORRY FOR BEING A PRICK! JUST BUSTING YOUR balls. IT LOOKS GOOD DUDE AND U ARE A FINISHER! IM NOT! I ADMIRE THAT QUALITY. please check out video and tell me what you think 😀😀. one down side. In some eyes. it's a maple cap with veneer. ✌Dave

should have use a thick piece of wood on top of the veneer to spread the load of your clamps across the whole veneer.
I was thinking the same thing man ( to bad he did not show how he did it?

Good luck getting that nut out if you ever need to change it. It will probably take some wood with it. Never use superglue to glue in a nut!
And not to a douche. But a little advice. If you do another one of these. Scrub the filler with the grain never swirl it
Good video but I was hoping to see how you cut the open book/mustache on headstock. Did you use a jigsaw or...?
I pluged the holes for the bridge posts with dowl and redrilled it for a gibson usa Nashville bridge. Way better
looks great man Slash would be jealous :D
This is not the same guitar body he started with in video 1.
Yeah just look at the number in the neck pickup cavity changed between first and second video - also first one had a bunch of yellow dye pooled in the cavities and that disappeared as well
ja , ... i think so too ! it s a fake
@@berndthiel613 😮😮😮
The color was (To me) better yellow. But that's my opinion. Looks great tho

yes their was some stuff that happened otherwise it would have been perfect. the original fit flush but broke on me
RKDriver I always thought Les Pauls had a pocket routed into the neck to make a joint so you wouldn't have to worry about adjusting anything it just slides right in
If i want a black and yellow I should just put a coat of the black, sand and then put on the yellow, right?
You use the black if you want a burst type finish, then you sand down the “lighter part of the burst and lightly sand out the edges of the burst

Did you make it Happened? Vid online? Where can I buy a spaltet maple LP kit of good quality? ( you got one?)
Great Great job! damn it 3 weeks waithing this! awesome!
brilliant. Love the product displays with prices. Great info. I feel confident to do this myself now.
If you would not mind answering... where did you get the shape for the headstock. Loved the video, keep up the work!
Lol thought that his filler was Nutella

Question: Are you planning on putting in an ABR-1 Gibson style bridge or the standard import one where you have the holes for?
i was thinking about that, I'm leaning towards import because i prefer the screw driver adjustment. also i have an extra one i can put in here. plus like you said its spaced for that already.
Yeah fair enough, can't wait, it looks so good already!
Hey my dude we're did you get this guitar kit?
Nice colour that.
Did you have to do any shaping to the nut or was it made to fit?
But yeah, it looked better yellow...
Make a video on how you stained it on this video update
drilling out those holes in the headstock would be a headache since they're off centre with the veneer... ( to bad he did not show how he did it?
I have seen others attach the neck before finishing the body or neck. Why doesn’t anyone wait until last to attach the neck? That is what I would do, and that is what bolt on neck manufacturers do.
Is that a standard or 59 veneer
is it legal to say Gibson on the head stock?
Kealogy as long as you don't try and sell it as a real gibson. Lol
Where did you get the headstock veneer?
he said ebay
where did you get the headstock overlay from? Looks great!!
Nice work. And you really know how to use background music in your videos. It's there but it's not.
"What you wanna do is....."
30 sec later....
"Actually I should have done it differently"
Awesome Les Paul guitar! =)
Hell yeah, this is why I subscribed :)
Thanks Bro much appreciated, looking forward to making cool content for you guys.
I wouldn't like doing that Nutella process. looked good when done though.
hey dude, where Is part 4???
coming soon my man
I think I would have traced out the veneer then cut it then match it up and glue..
Finally.thanks for posting. But you gotta Hurry up dude we gotta get to the Final part before the elections. Lol
haha I'm trying man, good work takes time.
To muich talking..
Little bit of glue here.,,,, dripping all over
Never liked the black underdye. I wanna see someone use brown, that seems more natural...
you trashed the first kit that is a different flame and body!!
Gibson logo on a non gibson smh...
I mean I feel you with the Gibson logo on a kit guitar but this is supposed to be a copy of Slash's Gibson so I guess it makes sense. If I were doing this (and I'm trying to decide whether or not its worth doing) I would still put the Gibson veneer on it
K👍🏽
I wouldn't use a veneer with a Gibson Logo. Just because it not made by Gibson. Its false advertising. Its your build put your name on it.

Too cheap to buy a fender
Bornlostangle not all of us want to drop thousands on our hobbies.
You do realize that the back of slash's Gibson Les Paul afd is red not brown
He said that during the video but he prefers the more natural color
This guy talks too much
TruFantom21 just mute the video
You went way too orange doesn’t look like an appetite les Paul :p don’t mean to be rude
Is this an acutal gibson les paul or a fake les paul
Oooooooorrrnjuuhh
the dark brown rosewood neck doesnt compliment the body color.
