I was paralyzed 3 years ago. I’d had two failed back surgeries. The 3rd paralyzed me. Amazingly enough I am learning to walk again. Problem is, my skin doesn’t function properly and I feel as though I’m being dipped into a fryer while being electrocuted. I’m able to walk short distances in my physical therapy sessions. So I’ll take the pain. Before I was paralyzed, I hadn’t watched 10 hours of UA-cam videos in my entire life. Now, I haven’t turned on my television except to watch UA-cam in 4 years.
This has to be the sketchiest double header I’ve ever seen! Derek is one of the few people who could pull it off. Thanks for bringing us along on the adventure!
I'm 80 years old and this is the first vehicle I've seen where nothing was done correctly. If you drove through Atlanta with this rig, you are a brave man.

I've almost been hit more times than I can count. even ended up under my truck with a state boy before... it's terrifying. please folks help those hard-working fellas make it home to their families.
Your walk around inspection of this vehicle had not only me but my wife, laughing histerically. She has absolutely no knowledge of cars, but even she knew that was a runner. She even brought up the suggestion , that if you have a breakdown in that, you should get a bigger vehicle and keep towing...or set them on fire and walk home.
@DMWI thank you very much! Thankfully he made it, so no fire! I miss having my first cars in the mid 80s. We learned SO many ways to keep them running, no matter what! We had our "good cars" we would drive April/may- November. Then, we would buy a $3-400 POS to drive all winter. At the end, we would drive them all to the junk yard. One friend drained all his oil and drove his 79 Duster 15 miles in 1st gear. Boiled out all the coolant and probably welded the pistons in place because once we got to the junk yard, it wouldn't crank. Good times.

I didnt hear that the picnic table seat was a “bad” thing.I just heard it as a notification.That big ole bumper could double as a bumper or handy dandy ramp ramp extension 2000.
I love Jessica's reactions at the end they pretty much summed everything up nicely, if you want my two cents since I'm already talking to you, I'd put the engine in the Rebel and put it back in the front for now if it will fit and try and make the interior look as cool as the exterior and Also fix on the ramp truck so she's in at least "trustworthy" condition, maybe doesn't have to be a show rig but could be a handy piece of kit to own with your outfit like you said.
The hauler looks like a really solid rig! Sometimes you just can't sweat the details too much! On the bright side, catalytic converter thieves are probably scared to be under it!
You've got my vote for putting a 12v in the AMC. I used to never understand the appeal of diesels until I spent more time around them. The 6bt is an absolute anvil that can make some ridiculous power and never let you down. I don't much care for the newer ecm controlled units because I feel it adds complexity to the greatest part of a diesel, they are super simple, reliable, and make great power and still get incredible mileage. The best of both worlds for a non cookie cutter project! Keep it up.

I've seen a lot of junk in my life, but the total proliferation of shoddy work on this thing is staggering. A real hack had his way with this machine for a LONG TIME.....
Never again will I bemoan the annual MOT test that we have here in the UK... Not if it keeps heaps like that off our roads! I can honestly say that I've never seen anything that decrepit in a scrap yard. Kudos to the guy for having the nerve to undertake a road trip in that.
That shifter was unbelievable. And the open electrical connections underneath with gasoline dripping all over them. these all look like fixes you do just to get her home but then you just keep driving it.
Memories, we carried the funny cars on that type of carrier, back in the day. We added extra fuel tanks so that we had about 100 + gallons per truck. Averaged about 100,000 miles per truck in the first season and drank enough coffee to nickname our trucks "Coffee express." We were bug eyed but always glad to see the loyal fans at the tracks. Good old days of drag racing. Thanx Derek.
AMC made some really nice muscle cars for a few years, every few years the AMC show is in Kenosha, WI and what a great event Often at the Kenosha, WI local museum are on display AMC cars.
I've said that dad left us at about the right time - 2015. He would not have wanted to see these miserable days of pandemic, inflation, etc. But then, I discover your channel and I remember all the times we had trying to piece together the hunks of junk my family owned through the years. Your sense of humor, timing, and practical advice would have really entertained my father. God, I miss him. Thanks for this...
My take as well, my dad passed in 2018, and he too would be absolutely sickened by what has happened to the country he grew up in, in which he served in the military, and worked the same job for 46 years. Take comfort in knowing that they are in a better place, because we have got a fight on the horizon....
I am sorry for your loss and mean no disrespect but there’s a lesson to these videos that you are missing. If as a country we take Derek’s example and keep our heads and meet adversity with tenacity, positive attitude and humor then we will keep this ol’ rig on the road
Wiring, diesel engine, manual transmission, fuel tank, rattle can paint job, dully wheel and tires, ramps, floor, light's, better brakes....you know what why not just take the ramp bed off and stick it on a newer, better truck from the get-go? That tired old Chevy just wants to die....this Chevy makes me feel so much better about my fire-trap Chevy tow truck. 😂
Add hood hinges to the hood swap, radatator and shroud, exhaust repipe, fix the fool leak, rebuild the ramps, GET DUALS ON IT! stop up holes in the cab so he don't loose too many more brain snappers... Oh and a new cedar plank for the push end... Maybe buy a decent term life policy so that cutie don't have too much stress supporting the kidlins when the next single tire mission blows with a turd strapped on the back.. All in all you remind me of a younger version of myself... Keep on truckin!
Although at this stage of my life I would put it on cracks list with what ya paid for it plus the cost of the shift stick + a couple hundred for your trouble and say "seeya" and move on.
This may be the the most sketched I’ve ever been watching you drive the orange bomber. You have the most down to earth comedic attitude. Nothing stops you and you never let the old rigs beat you down. Love the longer videos too. Keep up the greatness brother and keep the family time a high priority. You really do have a helluva pit crew!
I vote for keeping the ramp truck! I'd definitely say the best use of that old Rebel would be to switch it back to a front engine config, unless you want to take the time to figure out putting the motor behind the original driver's seat location, but putting it back at the front seems best to me.

"That's fine!" when things are bad, really bad, but nobody is going to get hurt, is an expression more people should start to use! It keeps the temp and the pressure at a level where the engine will last a lot longer, without too many parts in need of replacement! 🥰
I've become accustomed to using the phrase "Well, that happened" when things go pear-shaped in just about any way. Even when I cut off the tip of my finger at work I told my coworker "Well, that happened; I just cut my finger." When he asked if it was bad I just told him "it ain't good."

My cousin lost a tip of one of his fingers on one of the machines at their farm when he was about 9-10 years old. When he came back to school, he was the hero of the day! And of course, they all wanted to know how it happened. He took some friends, living on nearby farms, home and showed them. But because of the bandage, he used another finger ... And he's still alive, has had his own farm for decades, and doing fine missing the tips of 2 fingers ... I'm not kidding! Stay safe and creative. All my best wishes for 2022 👍

What I love about You Derek, is that you never let it get you down. You make me laugh out loud EVERY TIME I watch one of your videos. You should invest in a rubber suit like the Michelin Man because God knows you take your life in your hands with some of these rigs and the adventures that ensue as a result. Back in the day, my Dad was a “Master Mechanic” for Cadillac for 40 years. He was like you…….he could make ANY car run, but you sir are the Master Mechanic of absolutely EVERYTHING else. Well, these two episodes have been far more Roadkill than any Roadkill I can remember. I laugh at the guys and you for the stuff you drive, but until the Rebel I wasn't just shaking my head and saying to myself "I would never get in that death trap".

Love the Chevy bend on the "new" ramp truck. We used to have to deal with that all the time in the 1970s and early 1980s until GM came out with a repair kit. I absolutely love the truck. It's a workhorse and survived the hillbilly farm truck repair jobs. The truck deserves a medal for enduring all that's happened to it. The vehicles are cool and keepers. Thanks for sharing.

There's a reason why the engine has its own compartment. I recommend putting the engine back where it belongs and making the driving/passenger compartment normal or kind of normal. Excellent video, had a roller coaster of emotions from OMG to Thank Goodness and LOL .. Loved watching.

Your walk around inspection of this vehicle had not only me but my wife, laughing histerically. She has absolutely no knowledge of cars, but even she knew that was a runner. She even brought up the suggestion , that if you have a breakdown in that, you should get a bigger vehicle and keep towing...or set them on fire and walk home.

@DMWI thank you very much! Thankfully he made it, so no fire! I miss having my first cars in the mid 80s. We learned SO many ways to keep them running, no matter what! We had our "good cars" we would drive April/may- November. Then, we would buy a $3-400 POS to drive all winter. At the end, we would drive them all to the junk yard. One friend drained all his oil and drove his 79 Duster 15 miles in 1st gear. Boiled out all the coolant and probably welded the pistons in place because once we got to the junk yard, it wouldn't crank. Good times.
The safest plan of action IMO.
Keep a screwdriver with you and just remove the plates and leave it on the side of the road

I love Jessica's reactions at the end they pretty much summed everything up nicely, if you want my two cents since I'm already talking to you, I'd put the engine in the Rebel and put it back in the front for now if it will fit and try and make the interior look as cool as the exterior and Also fix on the ramp truck so she's in at least "trustworthy" condition, maybe doesn't have to be a show rig but could be a handy piece of kit to own with your outfit like you said.
The hauler looks like a really solid rig! Sometimes you just can't sweat the details too much! On the bright side, catalytic converter thieves are probably scared to be under it!

You've got my vote for putting a 12v in the AMC. I used to never understand the appeal of diesels until I spent more time around them. The 6bt is an absolute anvil that can make some ridiculous power and never let you down. I don't much care for the newer ecm controlled units because I feel it adds complexity to the greatest part of a diesel, they are super simple, reliable, and make great power and still get incredible mileage. The best of both worlds for a non cookie cutter project! Keep it up.

Never again will I bemoan the annual MOT test that we have here in the UK... Not if it keeps heaps like that off our roads! I can honestly say that I've never seen anything that decrepit in a scrap yard. Kudos to the guy for having the nerve to undertake a road trip in that.
That shifter was unbelievable. And the open electrical connections underneath with gasoline dripping all over them. these all look like fixes you do just to get her home but then you just keep driving it.
More surprising than the hackjob on this rig, is that it still ran, _at all._

Memories, we carried the funny cars on that type of carrier, back in the day. We added extra fuel tanks so that we had about 100 + gallons per truck. Averaged about 100,000 miles per truck in the first season and drank enough coffee to nickname our trucks "Coffee express." We were bug eyed but always glad to see the loyal fans at the tracks. Good old days of drag racing. Thanx Derek.

After watching the walk around I can’t help but to believe that these two units were made for each other, perfect.
I've said that dad left us at about the right time - 2015. He would not have wanted to see these miserable days of pandemic, inflation, etc. But then, I discover your channel and I remember all the times we had trying to piece together the hunks of junk my family owned through the years. Your sense of humor, timing, and practical advice would have really entertained my father. God, I miss him. Thanks for this...
My take as well, my dad passed in 2018, and he too would be absolutely sickened by what has happened to the country he grew up in, in which he served in the military, and worked the same job for 46 years.
Take comfort in knowing that they are in a better place, because we have got a fight on the horizon....

I think with a new transmission, hood, suspension and tires, you may just have good tow truck there! would be a fun update video!
And redoing all of the wiring.
Wiring, diesel engine, manual transmission, fuel tank, rattle can paint job, dully wheel and tires, ramps, floor, light's, better brakes....you know what why not just take the ramp bed off and stick it on a newer, better truck from the get-go? That tired old Chevy just wants to die....this Chevy makes me feel so much better about my fire-trap Chevy tow truck. 😂
And a wiring harness.
Add hood hinges to the hood swap, radatator and shroud, exhaust repipe, fix the fool leak, rebuild the ramps, GET DUALS ON IT! stop up holes in the cab so he don't loose too many more brain snappers... Oh and a new cedar plank for the push end... Maybe buy a decent term life policy so that cutie don't have too much stress supporting the kidlins when the next single tire mission blows with a turd strapped on the back.. All in all you remind me of a younger version of myself... Keep on truckin!
Although at this stage of my life I would put it on cracks list with what ya paid for it plus the cost of the shift stick + a couple hundred for your trouble and say "seeya" and move on.
This may be the the most sketched I’ve ever been watching you drive the orange bomber. You have the most down to earth comedic attitude. Nothing stops you and you never let the old rigs beat you down. Love the longer videos too. Keep up the greatness brother and keep the family time a high priority. I vote for keeping the ramp truck! I'd definitely say the best use of that old Rebel would be to switch it back to a front engine config, unless you want to take the time to figure out putting the motor behind the original driver's seat location, but putting it back at the front seems best to me.

"That's fine!" when things are bad, really bad, but nobody is going to get hurt, is an expression more people should start to use! It keeps the temp and the pressure at a level where the engine will last a lot longer, without too many parts in need of replacement! 🥰
I've become accustomed to using the phrase "Well, that happened" when things go pear-shaped in just about any way. Even when I cut off the tip of my finger at work I told my coworker "Well, that happened; I just cut my finger." When he asked if it was bad I just told him "it ain't good."

My cousin lost a tip of one of his fingers on one of the machines at their farm when he was about 9-10 years old.
When he came back to school, he was the hero of the day! And of course, they all wanted to know how it happened.
He took some friends, living on nearby farms, home and showed them.
But because of the bandage, he used another finger ...
And he's still alive, has had his own farm for decades, and doing fine missing the tips of 2 fingers ... I'm not kidding!

What I love about You Derek, is that you never let it get you down. You make me laugh out loud EVERY TIME I watch one of your videos. Well, these two episodes have been far more Roadkill than any Roadkill I can remember. I laugh at the guys and you for the stuff you drive, but until the Rebel I wasn't just shaking my head and saying to myself "I would never get in that death trap".

Three things I found phenomenal about the ramp truck - the brakes worked, the windshield wipers worked and the winch worked! Nice job...the rest of the issues are to be expected, right? Well done herding those two home.
Love the Chevy bend on the "new" ramp truck. We used to have to deal with that all the time in the 1970s and early 1980s until GM came out with a repair kit. That bend means it's an authentic old-timer! Great job as usual, Derek. Glad you decided to shut 'er down and not to commit suicide in the car. We need you!
I absolutely love the truck. It's a workhorse and survived the hillbilly farm truck repair jobs. The truck deserves a medal for enduring all that's happened to it. The vehicles are cool and keepers. Thanks for sharing.

There's a reason why the engine has its own compartment. I recommend putting the engine back where it belongs and making the driving/passenger compartment normal or kind of normal. Excellent video, had a roller coaster of emotions from OMG to Thank Goodness and LOL .. Loved watching.
