  • Pulled pork is one of the first things that comes to mind when someone mentions BBQ.... What IF I told you that it's also one of the EASIEST bbq recipes out there? Well I'm here today to show you my SIMPLE and BEST beginner pulled pork recipe!
Starting off, there is always a debate as to what do you buy? Bone in pork shoulder, boneless pork butt.... doesn't matter! I will say that if there is a bone in option, go with that if you are making smoked pulled pork, but in general get whatever you can.... In this instance I had no choice but to get a boneless pork butt from Costco.
Products that I recommend for your everyday grilling:
Thermapen Mk4 Instant Read Thermometer: bit.ly/3UOOsjh
    Victorinox Boning Knife: amzn.to/3tOOLir
    Victorinox Chef Knife: amzn.to/3GDmZwW
    Victorinox Slicing Knife: amzn.to/3hTiC6m
    26 Inch Cutting Board: bit.ly/3Vlxzge
    Grilling Tools: bit.ly/3tVTVc8
    Nylon Grill Brush: bit.ly/3GTM2Mr
    Bristle-Free Grill Brush: bit.ly/3EPjnXb
    Grill Cleaner: amzn.to/3TS8R5O
    Food-Safe Black Nitrile Gloves: amzn.to/3XnruBy
    Oven/Grill Gloves: amzn.to/3VkfvTq
    Wire Rack: amzn.to/3gtWGP0
    Wagyu Beef Tallow: amzn.to/3GTN0Z5
    Duck Fat Spray: amzn.to/3Et03iV
Now this was a twin pack which means that I ended up with two 7 pound boneless pork butts... One of them was sliced almost in half so I ended up doing a butterflied pork shoulder with that one, and a normal smoked pork shoulder with the other.
When it comes to the rub, I kept it simple and made a Texas style pulled pork:
    - 2 Parts Coarse Black Pepper
    - 1/2 Part Lawrys Season Salt
    - 1/2 Part Kosher Salt
    - 1/2 Part Granulated Garlic
I smoked these on my Masterbuilt Gravity Series 800 at 250F until I got the bark, color, and texture that I was looking for. For this one I smoked it until it was about 170F internal. Then I double wrapped it in foil and returned to the smoker.
One thing that people often forget is that with pulled pork we are looking for temperature, but more importantly you are looking for feel. For me I got that probe tender feel around 203-204F. I placed the wrapped smoked pork butt in foil pans and held them in the oven at 170F until it was time to serve. This served as my resting period and was about 6 hours for me...
    Time to shred and serve!

That looks fantastic! I try to do one at least once a month. It is about the most affordable meat out there and the ways to use it are terrific: sandwiches, quesadillas, tacos, taquitos, enchiladas, omelettes, Cowboy beans, and so on and so on...

Looks awesome. I never tried wrapping in foil but I am now. At 250 approximately how long before you wrapped ( I believe you said 4 430 hrs)and then how long wrapped did they go for. Is it safe to say 10 hrs total on smoking and 6 hrs resting at 170 or am I way off. I usually smoke those from Costco for a full 16 hrs unwrapped. Unbelievable bark. But I want to try this way. Thx. Stay Smokey

When I get a butt with the bone removed I some times tie it back together with butchers twine so parts are not flopping around during the cook. Another great video. 👍

Hey Anderson! Love your recipes as always. I'm starting this at 9 am and hoping to have it done for dinner time.
I was curious, since it's wrapped in foil, could you not finish this in the oven? It won't get anymore smoke then correct? Figure I'll save the pellets.
Also, for the last leg of the cook, say 300 instead of 250 to make sure it's at 203 by dinner time? About how long did it take to get from 170 to 203 at 250 for ya?
    Thanks man!

    • @AndersonsSmokeShow
      @AndersonsSmokeShow  8 місяців тому +1

Once it’s wrapped it can be finished in the oven. You can also bump the temp up too. You may be cutting it a little close though depending on the size. I always like to plan extra time where I can rest the meat longer if necessary

@@AndersonsSmokeShow Thanks man! So far it's going great! They're in the oven and up to 198. Almost to that magical number! That should leave time to rest.

Hey bro, great video! By chance, have you noticed a difference if you seasoned the pork and left it in the fridge overnight vs. seasoning it a few minutes before placing on the smoker?
