  • What is a femoral hernia, and what's the anatomy that allows this to happen?
    This is not medical advice, this is the anatomy of a femoral hernia. This is academic information, not clinical.

    Thank you! Just had femoral hernia repair surgery yesterday and this has been the best video I’ve seen on the anatomy of a femoral hernia. The surgeon was not sure what it was. I thought it was an inguinal hernia, he thought it was a cyst or mass but was ready for hernia repair surgery if he would find a hernia. Ultrasound also did not show a hernia. But when I woke up I found out it was a femoral hernia after all. I had never heard of these! Now I’m learning… Again, thanks for the awesome video!

      Hey, if you don't mind what were the symptoms you were experiencing?

    • @crucified4me
      @crucified4me Рік тому +18

      @@TheRyukDG I had a small lump in my right groin area since June 2016. It happened after a long flight, using the restroom and straining too much (feeling constipated). When I was seen by my surgeon (on 3 different occasions), he checked me mainly for an inguinal hernia and of course he could not find it. He thought the lump I had was a small mass/cyst... Recently, after 6 years of intense physical activity (big hikes, running, jumping while oblivious to what I had), I went back to the surgeon because the thing was protruding a little and on occasion I felt a little bit of pain, not much, though. The surgeon suggested a small incision to find out what it was (ultrasound was not conclusive). Right before the surgery we agreed that if it was a hernia he would repair it right there and then. When I woke up I learned it was a femoral hernia. The procedure is quite invasive (at least for open surgery, which is what I had). Reading the surgeon's report I found out that the hernia was incarcerated and had a fairly dilated ring. Something that both the surgeon and myself never suspected before. I'm home, recovering now. The surgery took place one week and a day ago. Planning on posting a video of my experience soon since watching other people's videos on this has been helpful. I hope this helps.

      @@davidjavids2431 It was more painful to go through the first few days of recovery 😬 And now I've tested positive for COVID, been dealing with cough (not good while recovering from open surgery), and an extremely sore throat 🫤 Thanks God this happened one month after surgery, but it still hurts when I cough 🤯

      @@Note-dy6yd I'm healing pretty well from surgery but unfortunately I was somehow exposed to COVID and I'm positive. I'm guessing my immune system was pretty weak because I deal with tons of people on a weekly basis and never got COVID before. Coughing a lot for a few days was hard on the incision area, but now the cough is subsiding, thanks God! Pain in my throat is also pretty bad, but I think the medication is kicking in. All things considered, I'm doing well... Just hope to be fully recovered in a few weeks. I recorded 2 videos on my UA-cam channel about my progress, one for the first 14 days of recovery and the second one after one month (right before I tested positive for COVID). Thanks for your kind comment 🤗

    This is a very informative video. Two years ago I slipped on the ice as I was getting out of the company pickup in the company parking lot and went down between the door and the pickup and hit my head on the ice and when I regained my senses my left leg was pointing in one direction and my body in another direction. I went to Dr. and had ultrasound examination and found out I had a 2 1/2 " horizontal Inguinal hernia in my core area. When surgery was done, they said the membrane was torn, muscle and nerve damage, leaving me with a 6" incision. When I had the ultrasound prior to surgery, I had mentioned about the sore area in my inner left thigh at my crotch. After surgery I was still in pain. Went back to Dr. and had another ultrasound examination on my left inner thigh and found out that there is a 2" hernia at my femoral nerve. Only able to ride in a vehicle for fifteen minutes, hardly able to walk up or down stairs, not able to lift my left leg to take a proper step and if I do I will fall down. So hard to roll over in bed. I'm still waiting for surgery for the femoral hernia damage, which the surgeon told me would be exploratory surgery. The femoral hernia is exactly where you have shown but is on the left side. I do get relief when I stand up by pushing on the hernia with my hand. There hasn't even been a date set for surgery. This injury happened 2 years ago. Any tips on how I can get some results to have much needed surgery done?

    Awesome video. Explains a lot. You hinted at the femoral hernia putting pressure on the femoral vein (@7:30 or so...). Would that ever be the cause of edema in the leg with the hernia (or perhaps even the OTHER leg?) Fantastic video. Surgeons should require patients to see this video before coming in to discuss their hernias and possible surgeries.

      my question too!!My Dads legs and feet both swollen, in hospital all day yesterday..the hernia was the culprit. Constipated, major pain...hard abdomen...the whole thing. I didnt even know he had a hernia all these years.They gave morphine, pushed it back in and we went home. Now, part two comes up...surgery I hope.

    • @karlint39
      @karlint39 Рік тому

      @@mssavedin92 Wow! After having my surgery, I haven't had swelling in my legs. The doctor didn't seem to think it was related, but if it never comes back, I suppose I don't care. I’ve had a terrible time with pelvis pain and it’s so far undiscovered after a gastric exam, ER visit and shot to L4, L5, S1 and an epidermal to rt side of T10-L1. All rt. Side pain especially into groin and pelvis. Sitting is worse as is flexing abdomen. I’m at my wits end.
