  • I found this guy playing along "Karl Johan" street in Oslo (Norway) with an unbelievable instrument! The sound coming out from that thing was amazing. I have never seen anything like this before.
    This is the link to his homepage: www.hanginbalance.com/
    His cool UA-cam page: / hedgemonkeya
    Go to my channel for more videos! / andyax
    Update: Thanks for the comments that explained the instrument. It's called PANArt Hang. The guy playing this Hang is called Daniel Waples :)

    these are called 'HANG DRUMS' as u may know.They just started making them in sweeden barely 10 yrs ago.They can run from 3000-7000 dollars each but WELL worth it if your craft is percussion.You can book solo gigs at small bar/grill's,etc..venues that are small & dont want the kinda volume a full band would bring,Still theyre just a havent been enough made to find a really good deal on say a used one-i got lucky & through guitar center found a guy who was moving back to europe & didnt want to have to haul it back.STILL you can find 'hangdrum' settings on Korg's 'wavedrum',roland v-drums,yamaha spd's,the 'octopad'-or the best elec pad on the market for 1000 buck's 'the mandala' pad designed by Danny Carey of Tool-you tube it,if i had it to do over i'd probably buy one of these instead of hangdrum,tablas,cajon drum,etc.

    • @saidas108

      How can these possibly cost $7k-$8k?

    • @TheSoulcraft
      @TheSoulcraft 9 років тому

      all hand made in sweden-maybe 100 pep in the world making em at MOST!,It takes alot of time,etc...depends on the size & key.They have to be perfectly tuned-i mean a top notch Gretch drum set cost 5000-7000 grands w/ouy any cymbals or hardware-just the drum set itself.Ebay one & lemme know what ya find..

    • @Automedon2
      @Automedon2 9 років тому

      That's interesting to know. It's kind of like a Caribbean steel drum in reverse. But honestly, before I read the comments, I thought it was made from a bar-b-que grill

    • @TheSoulcraft
      @TheSoulcraft 9 років тому

      Yeah-whats funny is their ARE drums called 'pan drums' that are basically a barbecue grill top with piece cut out to give lil spaces * make basically like 'keys' on a piano-but its so they'll reverberate,Still theyre crap compared to these-like i said only 2 dudes right now are making em in sweden,so they only make like 100 a yr & their's a waiting list to even get one for 7000 bucks!They just started doing it 10 yrs ago som im hoping they'll let a drum company start making em en-masse!

    • @Automedon2
      @Automedon2 9 років тому +1

      Mass production might ruin the mystique, but it could be a nice endeavor for more small time craftsmen, just as the Caribbean steel drums are (made from oil drums - though I'm sure you knew that)

    • @TorrentOfficiall
      @TorrentOfficiall 9 років тому +1

      Opethfullcovers its a hang, its a more of a specially crafted style instrument. the company panarts doesnt like it being called a drum either for what ever reason.

    • @Opethfullcovers
      @Opethfullcovers 9 років тому +3

      Well, it's still percussive!

    • @lesah2954
      @lesah2954 9 років тому +2

      Opethfullcovers Yeah it is. It's literally a steal pan upside down. I used to see and hear Rastas play them when i was younger it reminds me of the Caribbean :). The originals were invented in Trinidad & Tobago 1930's but the new generation the "hang drums" developed in Switzerland in 2001.

    • @benjwgarner
      @benjwgarner 7 років тому

      +TorrentOfficial It's the same reason that the "steel drum" is more properly called the "steel pan". "Drum" implies a monotonic rhythm instrument. I get their point, but it seems about as useful as screaming at people that panda "bears" aren't bears and that pencil "lead" isn't lead. Those fit in the "interesting things that you should really know" category rather than the "correct anyone you hear saying this" category.
