Back in the golden era of pixar. They could make you care about literally anything. Here's a movie about a rusty old garbage robot on another planet, or a rat that can cook. Then they decide to make "UP", a movie about people and give us one of the most emotionally hard hitting opening sequences of all time.
The speed at which I burst into tears at "Thanks for the adventure" was insane. I didn't appreciate this movie as a kid but watching in my late 20s is so much.

For me, the scene when Carl opens and reads Ellies adventure book is even more poignant than the married life scene at the beginning, and that's really saying something. He realises that all the things he thought she wanted to do; visiting far away places and seeking adventure had all been fulfilled in the quiet life they had spent together. The adventure never was far away, but at home with him. It's such a powerful, beautiful message.
And I think there's something to the idea that *he* actually needed this adventure. It gave him connections, and a reason to keep going. I think Ellie knew he'd be a little lost without her.
6:25 I know that showing blood is a big no-no nowadays for studios, but I remember how impactful this moment was for me as a child. Sometimes I think the world has taken my humanity from me, then I see things like this, and it reminds me that I still want to be loved and I still have love to give.
The first time I saw this film was in the cinema at a very delicate moment. My mother took me and my younger brother. My grandmother, her mother, had already died. My grandmother and I were friends, we talked about many things in life, I slept next to her, the room where she and I slept together and the room where she died is now an office where I work with my mother. Think of a person who cried a lot in the first scenes, in the cinema, my mother hugged me, as I write this I'm crying, it's very vivid for me. My grandmother was one of my best friends in life, I will cherish her memories as long as I live, until the day I leave this earth
23:12 I remember watching this movie with my dad. He had lost mother 3 years before i was born and i watched it when i was 7. So that’s 10 years after she died. It was a few weeks before my dad’s birthday that she died in an accident. He received a photo album for his birthday and she wrote some kind words at the back of it. So that scene just broke him when we watched it. and i remember looking at him confused because i was so young and i didn’t understand why that was so emotional for him. And now, all these years later. Now im the one crying. I almost feel sorry for looking at him like that
This is the reaction ive been searching for, insightful, wise, and human. You brought a genuine levity that so many reactors aren't experienced enough to convey, to that i say thank you. Youre a true gem.

I watched this movie when I was 4 when it first came out in cinema. I can’t get over how fast times gone. It’s a sad movie, but I’ll never stop watching it. The movie shows that time goes by so fast. What makes this movie what it is, is everyone is going to grow older, life catches up with everyone long term. Ellie might have never got to the falls, but she lived a good life with the man of her dreams. Your emotions really show in this reaction. I’m 18, but maybe you know how this feels because you’ve lived longer then most of us watching this video. No movie has ever made me cry as much as this one. Not even 10 minutes in and I’m already tearing, that shows you have the audience hooked. I’m glad people are revisiting the moment ❤️
Beautiful review. The intro always reminds me of the quote "We start as children to our parents, parents to our children, parents to our parents, then children to our children." I'm close to the second stage, but it also means my parents are closer to the third. Time is poetic like that.
I think when Russel first met Carl, the reason why he kept starting over was because in scouts he was probably taught that elderly people can have Alzheimer's. So he wasn't being "stupid"
The opening to Up is a test of humanity. Ever want to find out if your friends are a soulless demon or extraterrestrial space lizard? Show them the opening and if they don't cry then they're not human.

Up is one of those movies that is a benchmark for how quickly a movie can break an audience's heart. It is such an amazing, beautiful movie that shows the value of hope and... not giving up in the face of pain and loss. And, heck, I've recently lost my marriage in all but legal status, myself. My wife and I weren't the match for each other that we thought we were, and... it has caused quite a lot of heartache for both of us. But, since we have agreed to be roommates until our daughter graduates High School (another three years or so), I've been able to enjoy my own adventures again, which is... really lovely. I've missed them so much as we've struggled through things.
I think it’s really wonderful when movies/TV Shows/Reality Shows/Documentaries connect kids with elderly people who may not have grandchildren or their grandchildren near them. Kids really do help keep you feeling young at heart and kids really can learn so much from the elderly.
Carl is such a beautiful character. He deeply love Ellie, and losing her took a piece of him. Seeing him finally read Ellie's last message and realizing that she didn't live an unfulfilled life with him, it got me misty eyes. Ellie would've loved Russel

When I watched this movie for the first time as a kid I cried so hard at the beginning I made my mom turn the movie off. Couldn’t watch it til years later, and even though it’s one of my favorite animated films, the beginning never fails to make me cry. Great reaction ❤️
Carl and Ellie’s Life together reminds me of my Grandparents. My Grandmother recently passed away and everytime I watch Up, I think of my Grandparents who had a long life together since childhood.
I loved watching this reaction! You were so real and honest. This movie already hit me as a child, but even moreso once I grew up cause you truly realise how fast time goes, but in the end the time you spend with your loved ones are the real adventures you made along the way!
I've seen this movie numerous times and it never stops hitting me in the feels. Being able to relive this movie like it's the first time through someone else's eyes and emotions however, is a special treat. I can't imagine it's all that easy putting yourself on camera and being vulnerable in the moment for people to watch, and I appreciate you for that. Thanks for sharing. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
When this came out I hadn't experienced loss at the magnitude I have today, and my goodness the opening really gets me now. Remindes me of my grandparents, highschool sweethearts, gone 6 months apart. They are on their forever adventure now 🥹
Up is most certainly one of if not my favorite film Pixar has ever created and It warms my heart to see you react to this. If you get a chance I do hope you give Wall-E a watch too. Both Wall-E and Up are about Love and if you loved Up, You will most certainly love Wall-E. Take care and I hope to see more of your amazing reactions!
I'm so glad that I came across your channel. There's so much reaction channels which feel overwhelming to watch because most of them are so over the top, so it feels lovely to witness some authentic, calm commentary. 💕
This is the sweetest watch along I have ever had the pleasure of seeing, i usually just watch the cut versions of these but I could not force myself to stop at any point of this one
One of my favorite movies. The first part made me cry too but what really gets me every time is the scene where Carl is sitting in the house and realizes his wife thought her life with him was adventure enough. The pain and regret when he starts to open the book and the happiness at the end is so deep.
What a beautiful response. It gives me a whole new perspective when an older person watches it. You have such joy in your heart... And I can really feel it.
The intro of Up brings tears every time I watch it its amazing how it's possible in such a short period of time. Also teddy bear from Toy story 3 in the bottom left at 7:59 !!
this was the first and only film that will send me crying every time i see it. i will never forget this story. it's so relatable. life is a curse and a blessing. "UP" captured this perfectly. you can also sense it's a real story. minus the supernatural part of course. clever way to describe dreams (animals talking, flying house and general unnatural physics are all dreams)
Well, I haven't seen your channel before. I've seen other reactions to Up, but you're the first one near Carl's generation, so it was interesting to see that perspective. 😊 I agree about the music. I'd already noticed Michael Giacchino's music for the very strange TV series Lost, but it was his work for Pixar that made me see him as one of the really great composers.
It seems less is more when it comes to music affecting emotions. It's amazing how perspective on age changes as you grow older in years. I don't feel as old as I am or any wiser. lol
This movie is goofy and fun, but has an emotional depth that many movies try for, but never achieve. That's why i hate when people label all child friendly movies as kids movies. This is 100% a family movie. It's kid friendly and the goofy bits will keep them entertained. But the emotional journey is for the adults who feel their lives passing, who have lost loved ones, who always wanted adventure but life got in the way, etc.
Thank you for understanding that Russell’s parents are divorced. Most of the movie reactions or a few of them that I’ve watched a lot of people didn’t get that his parents are divorced. The movie reactions that I watch seem to get confused on who Phyllis is
You had such a beautiful reaction. You also have a unique perspective of someone who's seen things, lived life...value the insights. Thank you. You have a new sub.
I bawled like a baby the first time I saw this movie. There's something very cathartic about watching someone else experience it and call out some of the same things that were heartbreaking/heartwarming throughout it.
Girl… I had to skip the first part of the video. I ain’t trying to cry right before I gotta go to church 😅 When I would watch this movie as a kid, I knew it was sad but I would never really cry, but now watching it it hits SUPER hard and close to home. 1, because I’m older and understand things more. And 2, because I just lost my grandpa in November, so it REALLY pulls at my heart strings 😭❤️
One of the sad little details about Mr. Fredrickson is after Ellie passes away for the rest of the film he wears a bow tie because Ellie always tied his tie for him, he could never figure out how 😔
As i get older i search less and less for the purpose and meaning behind life, and all i want now is rhat when im on my death bed, to be able to look back and think "i lived one exciting and boring life" and just enjoy the memories. Thatll be enough for me, this movie rly teaches a lot the more i watch it. Its all about finding peace and happiness with whatever hand youre given. Mr robinson turning bsck into his old self slowly over the course of the movie was nice. It always makes me think about how much old people have experienced in their lives.
Good reaction! This movie always makes me cry, its so heartbreaking but at the same time so breathtaking and sweet, with such great messages, the thing that always gets me is the ''Thanks for the adventure now go have a new one!'' And the ellie badge at the end for Russell, building even more their relationship, just perfect overall

3:08 You’re so real for this. This was literally me throughout this entire beginning and IT HURT MY SOUL 😭
Never watch a Pixar movie and think it's not gonna be emotional 🤣
Noted 😂
Good to know this movie still makes me cry, even in small snippets lol
People watching the first 15 mins of this movie is the ultimate compassion test. Anyone who isn't in tears by the end should not be in my life...
Thank you and welcome to the channel! 🤗
This is the sweetest watch along I have ever had the pleasure of seeing, i usually just watch the cut versions of these but I could not force myself to stop at any point of this one
That opening still gets to me over a decade later. I have learned that life really does happen about as quick as that intro
I have a memory of watching this movie when I was around 8 or 9. I remember crying so much. This movie deals with loss in a special way
Ma'am, your cuts from 00:53-00:60 ARE HILARIOUS
Up is one of the most beautiful movies. Makes me cry every time.
I don't know how I don't know who but I'm so glad I stumbled upon your UA-cam channel because this is the cutest thing I've ever seen and I love it
One of my favorite movies. The first part made me cry too but what really gets me every time is the scene where Carl is sitting in the house and realizes his wife thought her life with him was adventure enough. The pain and regret when he starts to open the book and the happiness at the end is so deep.
This movie made me ball my eyes out so many times growing up. Watch it when I need a good cry
What a beautiful response. It gives me a whole new perspective when an older person watches it. You have such joy in your heart... And I can really feel it.
this video is so truly heartwarming. this movie is an emotional rollercoaster, and seeing somebody react to it for the first time is go magical!
Watching this with you was like watching it for the first time all over again, such a beautiful movie!
The intro to Up is a masterclass of fast-pace emotional story telling. The first 10 minutes hit like a proverbial truck.
it was very precious to watch this with you, you are a great commentator
I’m literally crying while watching the video 😭😭
The intro of Up brings tears every time I watch it its amazing how it's possible in such a short period of time. Also teddy bear from Toy story 3 in the bottom left at 7:59 !!
It's been so long since I watched it, I am like ugly crying right now, such a beautiful movie
Years and years later, still one of the most beautiful films ever made. Cant believe it was for children
This might be the sweetest, most wholesome channels I've stumbled across.
this was the first and only film that will send me crying every time i see it. i will never forget this story. it's so relatable. life is a curse and a blessing.
I agree about the music.
Thank you. You have a new sub.
sobbed so hard watching this, and now im crying all over again. such a ggood movie
I bawled like a baby the first time I saw this movie. There's something very cathartic about watching someone else experience it and call out some of the same things that were heartbreaking/heartwarming throughout it.
Such a beautiful movie. It really gets you in the feels.
Girl… I had to skip the first part of the video. I ain’t trying to cry right before I gotta go to church 😅
When I would watch this movie as a kid, I knew it was sad but I would never really cry, but now watching it it hits SUPER hard and close to home. 1, because I’m older and understand things more. And 2, because I just lost my grandpa in November, so it REALLY pulls at my heart strings 😭❤️
lol, I hear ya. Sorry about your grandpa. 🤗
I love to see people watch a masterpiece like this for the first time, so they can cry like I did when I watched it lol
Good reaction! This movie always makes me cry, its so heartbreaking but at the same time so breathtaking and sweet, with such great messages, the thing that always gets me is the ''Thanks for the adventure now go have a new one!'' And the ellie badge at the end for Russell, building even more their relationship, just perfect overall
today i found the best channel i ever seen, i always like to watch other people react to movies and this is the best channel!!!!
October 25, 2024, Why Am I chuckling-Crying watching you watching UP? Brilliant movie reaction.
This movie is such an emotional roller coaster
