Fallout has apparently been rough for Copyright. A couple react people have had a rough time getting videos through without a lot of edits.
"All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again". So how many generations have already happened? What ancient generation spawned "head Gaius", "head Caprica", or the reincarnation of Kara Thrace?
Clarke’s Law - “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
So are these characters angels... demons... magic? Or are they just guides? Are they just there to shepherd this cycle? Are they visiting from iterations of the cycle that are millions of years more advanced than the current cycle we live in today?
At the end (modern day), head Gaius and head Caprica are talking, and she mentions 'god'. And Gaius says "You know it doesn't like that name". So there's an advanced intelligence at work, but probably nothing at all like any mythological or supernatural portrayal of what it might be.
The opening narration of the original series began with .... "There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans. They may have been the architects of the great pyramids, or the lost civilizations of Lemuria or Atlantis. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive far, far away, amongst the stars."
I think the so-called “angels” just declared themselves as such to make it easier for humans to understand at least in part what was happening or being said to them, and in the end "Head Gaius" said that “God” don't like being called by that name, maybe it's not literally “God” as we know it. I've been thinking about this for more than a decade since I first saw this series, and I've rewatched it thousands of times until now.
That moment with Gaius realizing the things his father taught him and the past life he tried so hard to bury weren't useless is one of my favorite moments in the show.
Yes, the irony. He spent his entire life trying to escape and hide his origins, then discovers it's his destiny.
I was just about t post the same thing. All that hate he had for him, fell away, as he understood what his father had taught him, with a flood of emotion. Quite possibly his best bit of acting in the whole show.
I had been holding it together watching Daybreak live but that line broke me.
That little moment when Gaius breaks down he finally becomes his truest self. Right at the very end.
Pointless since we know humans did not develop organized agriculture till much later ,so everything they did was pointless amd lost.
Never let Lee make any decisions he just doesn't know how to make the smart choice just the emotional one

@@darthroden not 150.000 years ago... no mithologica figures makes sense after that much time.. its the biggest problem i have with the finale ..the time gap doesnt make sense for the Colonial culture to have made it into our culture.. it just doesnt.. there is a huuuge gap of civilization until "just" 15000 years ago and we are talking about verbal and writen stuff.. it would made sense if they had landed 15000 years ago.. but the reason for the 150000 is RDM shortly before writing the finale read a National Geographic article about Mithocondrial Eve (the one he is seen reading in present day in his cameo) and he sudenly wanted to make Hera that.. Mithocondrial Eve would had existed 150.000 years ago so thats why... the problem? it means Colonial culture literally died.. not just blended.. it dissapeared into nothing for over 135.000 years.. they didnt did no impact whatsoever..
Even if you listen to "Angel six" she says Mithocondrial Eve remains were from a Young woman so Hera even died young.. (probably for the lack of medicines and medical atention)
@@sparrowlt You should really watch the documentary "The Human Family Tree." Genetics across the planet were mapped, and they all converge on a single tribe in the African bush. Every last one of them. When the researchers visited the tribe and explained to them what was found, the chief said "we know." Their oral traditions have survived much, much longer than any other, probably because they are so isolated and none of the "civilized" world sees any interest or value in them, so their ways of life have not changed since people first walked north and out across the world. So, it's not really so much of a stretch to think that people we call ancient might have had a similar oral traditions about their origins that could have brought about beliefs like the Norse pantheon, as well as many others. The Tigh analogy is a bit on the nose, but it's fiction with extremely ancient roots in reality.
What's more interesting to me in this story's end was: what time of year was it when the colonists landed? How many people knew how to grow food? We know Gaius had that knowledge, but it didn't appear that he taught anyone else what he knew. Would they have time to plant and harvest before the growing season was over? What kind of interactions did they have with the people that were already there? Someone would have had to speak with them to learn what was safe to eat, let alone how to grow more of it. And even though the fleet was flown into the sun, what happened to the raptors they brought to the surface? Were they dismantled and melted down? They leave a ton of details out about how the show got from the colonial population landing in Africa to modern day, and how/if any of them did survive.
I'm less concerned about the analogy that Hera was mitochondrial Eve. There were other colonials to have more children, and any one of the Cylon/human hybrids could have been part of the key to modern human genetics in the story. Hera could have had a sister as time went on, perhaps one even genetically identical to herself, because Cylons. But we didn't get that part of the journey here to know for sure. That was left wide open to the imagination, like so much else. It's not a bad thing to consider the possibilities, but I think it's a bit presumptuous to say that, for sure, the colonists died out, leaving no impact at all, considering that, even if they didn't blend with the tribes, they still would have wanted to survive long-term, rather than starve to death. Survival instincts can be very intense.
The music when the fleet is flying into the sun is the original Battlestar Galactica theme from the 1970s. The man holding the magazine at the end was Ronald D. Moore, the creator and head writer of the series. There are two movies as well. The Plan and Blood & Chrome.
I think you left out "Razor".
I'd forgot all about that with the music as the fleet flew into the sun. Loved hearing that again.
Also webisodes, where The Face of the Enemy sort of explains why Felix was OK to stage the coup.

The music when Adama is doing his final flyby is a slow version of the original theme too. Breaks me up as he circles the Galactica and gives her a last silent goodbye.

What is often missed with the "mitochondrial Eve" pronouncement is that Starbuck did lead the Colonials to their literal extinction. Everyone left on Earth is descended from Hera and as a result there are no pure Colonials left.

Nor are there any pure Cylons left (aside from the Centurions who left to explore and evolve on their own)....but that's not a bad thing. There's a little of all of them in us humans and that's a good message.
And also, Hera only made it to young adulthood. 😢
@@darthroden Ironically and left open and unresolved there is suposed to be still humans in the Colonies.. there was a line way before when the Cylons decided to leave the colonies that they relocated the survivors to Picon
Which is why she was, literally, "The Angel of Death" and disappeared once she had delivered "humanity to its end"
Somehow Baltar crying when he said "I know about farming" really hit me
Perfect way to end his character arc. He spent his life running away from who he was, his heritage and ashamed of who he was. Now it has come full circle and he finally embraces the person that he is.

It's fun to go back to the early episodes and it's like, "They're a cylon, those people are cylons, everyone in this room is a cylon. Cylon, cylon, cylon. Not you Starbuck, you're some kind of space jesus."
Space Jesus, hahahaha! I read resurrected Starbuck as a young angel, still learning her purpose and powers.
@@tinnitus_tom She was reincarnated as a human with no memory of what she is, and her life was an ordeal that she had to undertake in order to fulfill her role in gods plan for humanity by leading them to a new homeworld, its an awesome bit of writing.
@@theapocalex the writing is only ever the half of it. The reading, translation and view forming is something else. Regardless of the production, including the scriptwriting, she is what she is and likely different to many people who enjoyed the show. As an example let's look at Pepper Pig, is she a human-pig child on a journey of discovery, or is she a sister-angel sent to torment George and his Dine-Saur . . a dine-saur that is in fact the central character to the entire Pepper Pig plot. Is the dine-saur the only one that doesn't like jumping in muddy puddles, is the dine-saur the conflict veteran with PTSD?
Gaius is truly my favorite character of all time. Has an arc that goes all over place.
Man escaped a holocaust, captivity among Cylons, captivity among humans, death sentence, torture, a stab to the neck, a knife to his throat, a harem. But the one thing he could not escape: his roots.
Thank you Angela and Xander for this great journey. This will probably be my favorite reaction series of BSG. Your on-the-spot analyses were so spot-on, can’t imagine it being done better.
"I wish Dee had made it to see this" Yeah. For me, it's Dee, Billy, and Felix if he hadn't led a mutiny. Those three deserved to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Three good souls! Felix had to go obviously but it’s hard to fault him based on where he was at the time.

I heard that Kara Thrace didn't go away forever, she traveled into the future and started up some coffee shop, that grew to be quite successful.
But first she popped over to a distant galaxy and had adventures in some sweet armor.
Along the way, she took some time to be a sheriff's deputy in Wyoming
That last part with Gaius, talking about farming. Goddamn that gets to me every time. Amazing character arc, brilliantly acted.
"She broke her back, she'll never jump again" is one of the most gut punching lines in all of sci-fi. For 4 seasons Galactica was the old warhorse that refused to give up and time and time again came through. Everything thrown at her and she kept on going as home and protection for humanity. And then, she's broken. She has no more to give. Her last act was taking them them to safety. Such an amazing show.
When Starbuck jumped and Galactica was shown flying over our moon…. It always gets me…😭

The other time was Wes Chatham saying 'Thank you' while staring like a madman after getting punched by Burn Gorman in The Expanse.

Baltar really came full circle. And the way James Callis delivered this great line was absolutely perfect.
Great writing, incredible acting, impressive space shit, fantastic music,... and what a mindblowing finale. I remember staring at the wall for some time after it ended. And then I started to rewatch the whole thing.
I dont think Ive ever been as satisfied with an ending before, or after Battlestar.

I saw an interview with James and Trisha and evidently his tears and the kiss in this moment weren't scripted. If you haven't seen any of their panel discussions I recommend them highly. :)
@@colinloves I agree. One can always nitpick about details and interpretations, but in the end it doesn't matter. The characters completed their journey end the story was told in a breathtaking way. The ending was just about as perfect as can be.
Coming full circle means you end up in the same place you started.

Interesting how "Head Six" and "Head Baltar" are dressed the same as the "real" Six and Baltar when we are first introduced to them in the premiere of the show.
That's done to differentiate them from their "corporeal" counterparts so you always know they're the head versions.
Is that interesting?

Perhaps I should have been clearer- "Head Six" and "Head Baltar" in the final scene are dressed in the same clothes as "Real Six" and "Real Baltar" when we first see them in the BSG premiere.
Angels computer programs aliens who cares when your dressed so well. There is also a matrix reference there at the end in terms of her red dress.
One of my favorite little bits about the finale: when we see the Centurions jumping away, and Ellen explaining that they hope the cycle of violence will end with them, Bear used a happy expression of the "Worthy of Survival" musical theme. Basically, Bear states that yes, they broke the cycle of violence for that cycle of time and that they truly achieved peace in their day.
"..... and then they will join the promised land, gathered on the wings of an angel. Not an end, but a beginning."
The final line of the First Hybrid's prophecy from BSG Razor.
Anders gets to see Starbuck at the end. He knew what she was as a hybrid. That’s why he said, I’ll see you on the other side. “

That Bill and Laura moment is really hard every time I watch it, but I'm happy she at least got to see it and with Bill at her side.
I loved this series. I shared it with my mom who could not stop watching it after the first episode "33". She was hooked. I watched the last episodes with her. A few years later cancer got her with only 3 months notice. The end with Laura passing away from the same thing always reminds me of those moments I spent with her. Watching you loving this show and express your emotions to us (so many times shared by me) was such a great experience, the laughs like the tears. Thank you. Thank you so much.
Ronald D. Moore said at a convention once, that the Cylons only had type O or O- blood. So if you have that blood type, then you have a Cylon ancestor.
If Hera is Mitochondrial Eve, we *all* have a Cylon ancestor.

After 20 years in the Navy and transitioning to civilian employment, I had exactly the same reaction as Adama did to his polygraph test!
Have a cousin in the navy, a master chief, and I'm pretty sure that's what he would say.
I have never served, but have been responsible to work in nuclear power generation, and for a few military contractors. After being trusted regarding people's safety and millions of dollars of equipment, i can understand the frustration.

I decided to watch this while eating knowing full well i was going to bawl. Again.
Watched this live in a living room FULL of people. The memory that stands out most to me, 15? years later, is like a dozen people just SCREAMING when Cavil goes out like the little bitch-ass he always was. All love to the late great Dean Stockwell, a true acting icon, for making such a slimy character purely loathsome to the very end. Genuinely brave choice to give him no redeeming qualities whatsoever. RIP in pieces to The Worst Cylon. 😂

It was Dean's idea to kill himself.. he was suposed to be shot by Adama after he shot Baltar iirc ..but Dean said Cavil was so fraked up that when things finally broken down again irrecoverely he would go "frak this im out of this for good" and blow his own brains
@@sparrowlt I always read that scene as Cavil, in the heat of the moment and in his panic, briefly forgot about the lack of resurrection and offed himself as a means of escape, which made his death really funny to me.
I had forgotten that it was Racetrack's dead hand that launched the nukes that destroyed the Colony. She is low-key one of the most pivotal characters of the show. Not only did she destroy the Colony, she also discovered the algae planet and New Caprica as well as participating in many other important events.
I've been a fan of this show for over 15 years, watched it and discussed it with many people and never have I ever heard anyone say; Wish Dee could've seen this! Damn, you got me with that one..so true!!

one thing that hurts a bit is that Hera died young...'found fossilized remains of a YOUNG woman'.
Harsh but realistic I guess. With zero technology and a hunter-gatherer lifestyle life expectancy would've dropped pretty dramatically. Young by our standards but not for her generation.
One of the things I liked about this ending was the whole 150,000 before modern times as when they arrived on this Earth. Humans began exhibiting behavioral modernity about 160,000-70,000 years ago - so I think you can see what the show runners were implying there. 😉 I thought that was a very clever hook-in to *this* Earth that they came up with. 👍

I had figured that I wasn't going to be watching you further, but then you pointed to that fracking DRD plushie saying you were going to start another new series for you to watch. Oh yeah - I've *got* to watch you watching Farscape for the first time! 🥳
Just finished my rewatch of this series and it still remains my favorite show of all time. This show also made me a big fan of Bear McCreary as well. His leitmotifs throughout this series are what really brings that special touch to every scene. Glad you enjoyed this experience because it really is one of a kind.

Racetrack nuked the cylon colony AFTER SHE WAS DEAD!
Thus fulfilling her character arc. She is almost certain she will eventually die on a mission, and is more focused on taking out as many Cylons as she can before that happens. She expresses this in her interview in Final Cut back in Season 2.

I think the reason why Simon getting offed is so cathartic is because his introduction in the show was at the baby factory
Thank you for watching this and taking us along for the wonderful, emotional, fantastic journey. So many great characters and arcs and storylines. Definitely one of the best sci-fi series ever.
One theory states that Galactica herself was the dying leader that would deliver humanity to the promised land but never set foot there. There were a couple of times I thought you might make that connection. Especially during the last few episodes when everything was coming together.
Funny how Xander turned you on your head. Kinda like this show did a few times. 😊

Ronald D. Moore made the decision to end the show at the 4th season, because he felt he couldn't raise the bar for excellent storytelling any higher and said he'd rather go out on his own terms rather than continue on and end up having the show cancelled for low ratings. He just didn't know where else to take the story anymore and didn't want to have a "jump the shark" moment for not ending the show when he saw it was time.

He clearly was running out of ideas where to take the story already, when he put Tigh and Six together.
The Walking Dead is the best example of that. Show started out strong, but just kept getting worse and worse every season because they just wanted to continue it for the sake of continuing it. The quality and ratings plummeted as a result. They should have ended it sooner. Always best to end on your own terms when you are still on top so the legacy of being a high quality all-time great show is what is remembered.

Galactica leading the Fleet into the Sun was both sad and beautifully done, and Admiral Adama being the last man off was the best moment.
The Old Lady deserved that noble sendoff and not rusting away as a pile of debris. She was a protector and a deliverer, she took one hell of a beating and brought everyone to the Promised Land. Thank you Battlestar Galactica.

Angela, I watched BSG when it was originally aired. Then years later I found a DVD box in a store here, bought it, and watched it again. Sometime later I binge-watched it with my kids: the whole series during a 2 weeks vacation. We didn’t watch anything else then. A few years ago I watched it again. This is the fifth time I watched the entire series, but this time watching ‘together’ with you, I enjoyed it more than any of the times before!!
The executive producer Ronald Moore was in the final scene standing in front of Gaius and Six. He's the guy with the beard.
He is your new god.

@@funnylilgalreacts And that is a very insightful comment given that believing to be an angel doesn't make you one either, and given that based on the exchange between Head Gaius and Head Six in the final scene, the entity they serve isn't actually God. She simply chooses to believe it's God, and he acknowledges ("Silly me... silly, silly me") that nothing he says to her will undermine her faith. There's a parallel to this in Dune 2, which I won't describe in case you haven't seen the movie, but is already the basis for a popular Dune 2 meme.

I recall a hilarious thread in the comments along this line started with the reaction to the mini-series at the start of this epic journey.
Can we all just stop and appreciate BEAR MCCREARY?! Dude was in his mid-twenties when he composed most of the BSG score. Absolute genius.
He was the glue that held the series together and vastly elevated it. They **really** lucked-out with him! (Also, his mixture of different instruments from around the world gave me kinda mythical, old-school vibes, so when watching the show the first time I joked "I bet this actually takes place in the distant past and not the future". Lo and behold... 🤣)
I loved this series. As a kid I watched the original series and was so happy when this rebooted series came out. I love how they tied the series into our history based on the "Ancient Alien theory". The scene which all the ships flying into the sun and the original BSG theme kicks in, it hits every time going back to my childhood.
So, now if I'm correct. You still have to watch the "Blood & Chrome" prequel about Adama's younger days.
Gauis realizing he has spent most of his life running away from his family's culture and background on Caprica, only to have been ultimately running towards his true and destined purpose is in life breaks him in that touching moment with Six. I guess God in the BSG universe had a sense of humor in regards to Baltar's journey.

This episode never ceases to blow me away.
I really like the nods to the original series like the music playing as the fleet heads into the sun.
They used it in the miniseries, too. They made it the "national anthem" of the twelve colonies. Which I thought was a nice touch. They actually did throw a lot of Easter Eggs into this whole series. I particularly liked the tube of Felgercarb toothpaste in the flight room, where Kara is telling them that whoever spotted what they were looking for on patrol would win that last tube of toothpaste. 🤣 Very subtly done, too - if you didn't really look at the tube of toothpaste as the camera was moving around, you'd miss it completely.
(For those not familiar with the original series, there were a couple of cuss words that they used to get past the censors - "frack," for the f-word, which made it into this series, and "felgercarb," which was the replacement for sh.., er, crap. 😉)
The ending was SO FRAKING GREAT!

Watching the finale so many times even after it aired 15 years ago still holds up and hits hard the same then. A True Classic. What I love about this series is that it recognizes the way that people are, and how they can't let go of being overwhelmed with judgment of others. As for Gaius I have to reference a quote from Wonder Woman; "It's not about what they deserve, it's about what you believe, and I believe in love." I think that works for the entire show actually. The arrival of the Galactica folks happens when human civilizations first started to arise so there were humans, and they were in tribes at the time. Galactica brings civilization to earth. Thank you for taking this journey and letting the rest of us see your first reaction. Seeing you grapple with the various emotions and thoughts about this show allows the rest of us to relive those moments when we first watched this show and felt a reaction. It has been quite the journey..
Just wanted to say thank you for reacting to this. When this show first aired, there was no such thing as UA-cam let alone reaction channels. I only had a couple of friends and family to watch it with and talk about it at the time that it aired. Battlestar was ahead of it's time and I'm honestly glad that more and more people are discovering this show and reacting to it. I've seen your reaction to every episode and honestly really enjoyed the opportunity to rewatch this entire series with someone that appreciated it as much as I did.
The opera house vision is essentially the big clue in all of this. Everyone thinks they have free will. But in the end it is already predetermined in the series. And anyone who is trying to go off the path gets in big trouble.
For example when the cylons attacked Galactica and Anders was out in a ship, and then the raider refused to attack, that basically led to the cylon civil war.
And only really Gaius and Six come to that realisation and maybe to an extend Athena and Roslin when they look for Hera.
PS: You need to rewatch the series anyways. And this time properly with the movies inbetween at the right time. Quite a few eastereggs left to pick up in there.
The idea that everything is already predetermined doesn't square with the fact that the greater power intervening in events (that Head Gaius makes clear is not a divine being even though Head Six believes it to be God) DOES NOT KNOW whether the creation of a human-Cylon hybrid race will break the age-old cycle of violence between biological sentient life and machine sentient life.
Head Six explains away the lack of foresight as "part of God's plan" when in reality the greater power simply isn't omniscient. It's just darn smart, which helps it figure out when and where to send its messengers to intervene in events so as to maximize the probability of Hera's conception, survival, and placement where conditions are ideal to perform its experiment (on our "Earth").
@@MongooseTales Well thats the real question in physics these days. If our universe is predetermined or not. If we actually have free will or not.
Because every particle in its trajectory getting bigger and bigger to atoms molecules us, planets stars etc already can only go one way. Famous theoretical example of that is the butterfly effect, but that on a grand scale.
Like every ciscumstance that led her to make the react channel, us then watching it then commenting on it and write all these comments.
And that story is wrapped in BSG. Is it a god? At least thats my interpretation of it.
Thanks for watching this show and taking us along on the ride. This show never even got 1% of the exposure and credit it deserves and same goes for the actors. I mean, basically every actor and actress on this show had numerous appearances on other shows afterwards which already shows how talented they are. I know that some people refer to a certain other show as 'the best SciFi show' but none of it comes even close to BSG at any given time. Actually no other show does.
I might have told this story before... but in case I haven't: I first watched this series when it came out (found out about it about halfway through Season 1 and caught up)... watched the whole series and loved it soooo much. Then I got all the DVDs... and rewatched. Then I got a job at a place that hosted an excellent Film Festival and owned a classic theater that showed amazing films. Working in the offices I got some colleagues to join me for lunch everyday in the conference room (big screen tv) to watch the series. We had a group of about 7-10 people who watched it all every lunchtime. When we got to the final episodes, I got permission to use our gorgeous theater with the INCREDIBLE sound and watch it on the big screen. We sat in awe as we watched this in a way I wish EVERYONE could. It was MAGNIFICENT on the big screen. Bear's score sounded AMAAAAAAAZING. It was an afternoon I'll never forget.
Watching this again through your eyes, has brought that amazing feeling back again. THANK YOU for your thoughtful words and empathy and reactions. They were brilliant.
Speaking of EMPATHY... this show has it in spades. Almost every character has some moment to make them more relatable. We watched as a selfish, obnoxious prick who helps (unwittingly) nearly wipe out humanity become someone who truly changes and we're with him because we see his path. The same with Ellen,... We see a cylon who LITERALLY kills a baby become the subject of our pity when she's being tortured by Admiral Cain's goons at her behest. We even see Cain in a more sympathetic light in some people's eyes (though I despise her and her methods). We see Boomer / Sharon / Athena move through all sorts of gyrations of emotions. Through it all we see incredible actors (Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Michael Hogan, Grace Park, James Callis, Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer, Jamie Bamber, Tahmoh Penikett, Alessandro Juliai, Kandyse McClure, , Aaron Douglas, Michael Trucco, Nicki Clyne, Richard Hatch... and all the rest of this amazing cast deserve a HUGE standing ovation... along with Ronald D. Moore and Bear and the writers and the crew. A truly great piece of television.
Finally... I'll continue to follow your channel. If you're looking for series that are (almost) as impactful... I'd heartily recommend: "THE WEST WING" (a brilliant series with characters you will also grow to love), and "3 BODY PROBLEM" (out now on Netflix... AMAZING Sci Fi)... SO SAY WE ALL! ❤
If no one told you, the gut that was reading the magazine and in the Portlandia sketch was the show's producer and writer Ronald D. Moore basically (the creator of the reboot of Battlestar Galactica (the one you just watched)).
I have no idea if this is fact, but I did hear - or read - somewhere that one idea for the ending was one of Galactica's flight pods breaking off during the last jump, which would be spotted by telescopes millennia later - making it the real reason for the Apollo 11 mission. Mankind would discover the advanced technology inside and start the cycle again.
In that last scene as Head Six and Head Gaius are looking over a guys shoulder and reading a magazine, the guy is Ronald D. Moore the show runner.

When Galen Tyrol was talking about finding an island up north that's cold and with the Highlands, Galen started Scotland.
Also, I read once that Edward James Olmos had a desired ending to the series. The Fleet finds present-day Earth, and as the fleet comes down to meet us, President George W. Bush attacks the fleet with nucs and wipes them out. Here is his quote: Edward James Olmos jokingly describes how he thinks the Fleet could find Earth:
I personally - this is not [from] any of the writers, but my thing - I wanted to come into [the present day], find Earth, cruise on top of it, see it for what it is, and as we're coming down to it, we're blown up, we're nuked. And then [someone says to] the President of the United States, which is [George W.] Bush, "They've been taken care of. Thank God you saved the world again." And you turn, and you see who told him that, and it's one of the Cylons. [Laughs][1]
It took me several times watching this series to realize that Starbuck is the daughter of "Daniel" ; the #7 that Cavil killed.
Congrats on making it to this point in one of, if not the, greatest sci-fi shows of all time. In my experience, one of the hallmarks of great sci-fi isn’t to provide answers, but to prompt questions, to force one to think, often deeply, and from a perspective you normally wouldn’t. BSG managed to do just that, it really is the journey that matters, not the end. And in this case, the end is in fact the start of the next journey. Sadly this aspect is one that feels lacking these days in sci-fi, I think many have lost sight in how much the journey means. Maybe it’s just more miles on the odometer that enables me to see this now, maybe not.

I remember how empty I felt afterward, like nothing could ever fill that wonderfully agonizing emotional ride that I felt watching the show. It sucked having it come to an end. However, at least the ending was, in my opinion, very fulfilling. And... how did I fix that sad feeling? By rewatching it again from the beginning a second time.☺️☺️☺️
There were a lot of things I loved about the finale, including "our" Earth being named that because "we deserve it," and this futureistic show turning out to be about our distant ancestors. Fits beautifully with the "all of this has happened before, all of this will happen again" theme. I didn't really love the present-day bit, though, which felt a bit heavy-handed. I also didn't love the BSG "family" splitting off and going their separate ways on Earth. That's the thing I would want to do if I'd just been through Hell and back with these people, and we finally had the opportunity to settle down and enjoy the Promised Land together. Ah, well.

Something to remember about the FTL coordinates that Kara uses to get them out of the Colony to Earth. These coordinates work as distance in XYZ direction from the point where you are located now. So they had to be at the colony and save Hera before using the coordinates. It had to work from there only, because they had chosen to save Hera.
I've been watching reactors on UA-cam for the past several years, and have seen all types of formats used. Some work, some don't. I like seeing immediate reactions to current shows, especially if there's a significant plot twist. Those type of reactions are fine if kept short.
Then are the longer reactions of things past, and that's why I come here. I love seeing a younger generation rediscovering things of my past, and the nostalgia and warmth is a bonus. The in-depth analysis, heartfelt thoughts, theories, and musings make me feel like I'm there with you discussing over coffee afterwards what you thought of a certain show I hold near and dear to my heart.. episode after episode. Your sense of humor interjected and sprinkled at sometimes the most inappropriate times is aligned with mine, so it's even more fun to watch along with you.
Battlestar Galactica is the second complete series I watched of yours, Firefly being the first (too short to even count!). I enjoyed watching along with you so much, I had decided to start watching your Expanse contribution next, and fall in love all over again with The Rosinante and her crew, until the very end of this video...

The last two days I've enjoyed the live chat during the final episodes, but I was too late for the last one today. I would have thoroughly squee'd in the chat upon hearing you mention my all time favorite sci-fi franchise of all time. my hopes seem to have been answered, with you delving into Farscape, and hopefully resurrecting interest in this amazing show. I told you that the final plot twist would be the biggest one of all. The fact that they found Earth 150,000 years ago and that Hera was mitochondrial eve is mind blowing. I remember when I first watched the show I never in a million years would have guessed that.

It was a nice homage to hear the original BSG theme as the fleet is heading toward the sun.
When the fleet is moving off to the Sun, they music playing is the theme music for the original series. It is only one of twice that you hear it.

What did you do last night.... oh i watched this woman blow her nose six times watching something i couldnt quite see and talk about how it made her feel.... and it was awesome. Thankyou so much funnylilgal for bringing all the nostalgia i had for this show. I watched this series on dvd with my daughter and then again with my dad and now with you. So say we all.
I love the way it ended. It never occurred to me that they were in our distant past, I had always thought they were our distant descendants. And I doubt I'll ever see a show again where music played such an important role in story. It was a character in its own right, for me.
It's unlikely there'll ever be budget or appetite to tackle making a show of Iain Banks' Culture universe, it would be amazing to see someone do it and treat it with respect and care like this show was made. But that universe (while violent and not perfect) is a different pattern for sure, a future I'd be happy to live in.

The entire series ends up being about Baltar's redemption.
And Laura's journey to the promised land....though like Moses, she didn't really get to live in it.
Plot-wise it's actually all about Hera and all of the twists and turns it took to ensure she survived to become the mother of a new hybrid human-Cylon race. But from a character perspective, yes it's true that Baltar's journey stands above the rest. And that's saying a lot considering how amazing some of the other character arcs are.
@@darthroden Its funny how they slighty bent the prophecy of the dying leader who would live to see the promised land and let her see it for a short time.. RDM said something that prophecies are not that hardcore writen and can be a bit flexible..

It's so rare that a series is so well crafted, that it touches us so deeply. I can't believe you only used six tissues for this show's finality. Take care.
In a way, Leoben had been right about Kara, but probably not exactly in the way he thought.
The line where he says he saw her as "an angel blazing with the light of God." It goes back to the last line of the First Hybrid's prophecy from Razor: "they will join the Promised Land gathered on the wings of and angel..." That could refer to Starbuck, and also Galactica.
Ultimately the show had a message. One that hits home. Especially in today's world of AI.
It didn't cause me any serious loss of suspension of disbelief, but this was one of the first shows I ever watched where I was as consistently blown away by the acting as by what was happening with the characters and the story. That aspect of your attention to details made this quite a unique, epic reaction-watching journey.
What am I going to do now? This, for me has been the best reaction series I've ever watched on UA-cam. I have journeyd through the whole series with you, enjoying your analysis, reaction, tears and joy, and now it's come to and end of that journey, much the same as the COlonials and their journey. Thank you so much for giving my such happiness, watching along with you.

Galactica's back breaking after the last jump feels like a punch to the chest. Never a dry eye for me. Galactica herself is as much a character as anyone else. Very similar in that regard to the Enterprise.
Yep. It's right up there with Zoe's line about Wash at the end of the "Serenity" movie: "He ain't coming." Two snippets of dialogue that choke me up every time.

Objectively, removing the sci-fi aspect, the character development, the storyline and the introspection of morality, it's so incredibly well done. They never did explain what happened to the final Raptor. It's entirely possible that it still exists to this day somewhere, but without any tillium for fuel, it really can't go anywhere
