One of my favorite things about this one is the fact that the red striped centurions had their inhibitor chips removed a long time ago now. So they, like everyone else, are attempting to rescue Hera voluntarily. Something about killer death machines volunteering to go on a suicide mission to save a little girl always brings a smile to my face.

Love Baltar's redemption arc. One of my favorite lines is his: God's not on any one side. God is a force of nature, beyond good and evil. Good and evil...we created those.
Another one is from the very end of the finale when he says to Caprica 6: You know, I know a bit about farming.

It's called hard sci-fi. In that regard its very similar to the Expanse. They needed some magic to facilitate travel ( Epstein drive and FTL jump drives ) but apart from that all tech is real. They use good ol' projectile weapons wtih exploding shells and missiles. No fancy stuff, it's not all that different from what we use nowadays. Also if you read up on the BSG lore you will find that a Jupiter class Battlestar literally have meters thick armor layers so t hey can really face tank high yield nuclear missiles. I also enjoy TV shows wich are more grounded in reality.

I love how he plays the change in Blatar too. In season 1 when Angel Six tells him that he's an instrument of God, he gets all bloated up, and his ego is all stroked and everything. But here when he's actually completely acting in the role as an instrument of God, he's being open, honest, and vulnerable. Instead of being selfish and self-centered, he's finally being selfless, and it's a believable shift. This is why Baltar is my favorite character, and James is my favorite actor on the show.

Bear wrote an entire soundtrack for the finale that took up a whole disc on the 2 Disc Season 4 OST. "Assault on the Colony" is a 15 minute track. Man, I love Daybreak. I'd change maybe one thing about it, but for all the character stuff, and tying things together and plotness of it, I love it.
Also, recall you were worried about Galactica ramming a basestar in "Islanded in a Stream of Stars?" Well, here it happened.

But I especially liked the ending, 3 episodes, similar to the Mini series, that bring everything important together and you can tell they put a lot of effort into it. I also think the writing is exceptional for this series and I really liked the ending in Daybreak part 3 and the time jump at the end. In my opinion, it was very pleasant that current events and developments at the time were included. 😊There seem to be quite a few people who didn't seem to like it that much, but I thought it was just great (-> Hera etc.) 👍😄

It kind of feels like a final acceptance of what Lee said in the trial at the start of the season, that they're no longer the civilization they used to be, they're practically a gang: these titles are almost just ceremonial at this point. Why elect a president, when you can just go "hey, I'll be busy for the next few days so you get to be president now"

Which is exactly why Kara needed to put it to the Old Man the way she did. He was still thinking like a Colonial officer, and that ship sailed the minute they allied themselves with the rebel Cylons. I know as an Army officer, I depended on my platoon sergeant to keep me straight... and Sergeant First Class Howard was usually very diplomatic. However, there were times when he straight up should have been charged under the UCMJ. But I needed to be brought up short. He made me a better officer, instead of being a butter bar frak up.

A Blind Date is set-up by someone you know with someone they know. So it's not like some random person from online. But still you would probably normally still go to a neutral location for the date.

    Just random bits and pieces-
    1) Love that "Yeah!" Tigh yells when Ellen is gets up on the table in the stripclub.
    2) That final Cottle/Roslin scene........
    3) Schlagobers and Blood in the opera house.

I am a Geek, but I turned into a total, spazzed out Geek when they cut the visions of the Opera House into the battle scenes! Just beyond cool. Seeing the Final Five on the observation deck of the CIC. Kid in a candy store. I was hoping beyond hope the first vision of the Opera House back in Kobol's Last Gleaming would show 5 white banners foreshadowing the end of the series, but alas the number count did not match up. Still, everything about this is epic.

3:14 In a manner similar to Pulp Fiction, we are getting the characters origins pre-episode 1. It does seemed strained NOW that we have seen Kara and Lee for 4 seasons, but Kara has always been a effed up person and Lee a do the right thing stick in the mud. This was going to happen. Had we seen this chronologically, the impact of their fates in the final episode would be diminished.

The last battle of the Galactica is its most epic battle. This battle marks the last point in the Second Cylon War. Although seeing the Galactica get slapped on the back was emotionally painful even for me, this girl has already been in such scrapes. However, such an end is better for her than just leaving her to die.
As I said, all paths have led to this moment.
Seeing the Cylons and Humans fighting together was also epic, and you know, you're right. Cavill can just come back again in 40 years and finish off Humans and other Cylons.
    P.S.The end will be epic.

I believe Calvin only exists in this extended version of the finale, he definitely wasnt part of the original cut, and understandably so. He kind of comes out of nowhere, and doesnt really do much for the shows narrative, nor does he add much character development to Gaius, which is presumably the purpose behind his introduction 🤔

It's so movingly touching to see how viscerally you're affected by the unrelenting punishment Galactica takes here!!! 💗
To follow up on what I suggested yesterday, I'm not at all sure there wasn't something in Gaius' words which didn't give Cavil some reason to reflect on his place and worldview, not simply a leverageable opportunity to take advantage of, in the moment. I wouldn't put odds against him having complied with the conditions Tigh laid out in his offer. Of course, exigent circumstances we're about to see precluded such a possibility, but a different path for him and those still following him is interesting to speculate on, IMO.

TIL (relearned?) where the breaks are between Daybreak Parts 1, 2, and 3 😅
I know i said before I'd save my comments on god for the finale, mostly i was waiting for Baltar's speech
I'm not a big fan of overt religiosity in shows but i really appreciate how neither side (Polytheistic humans, monotheistic Cylons - which was in itself an interesting choice given you, know the audience 😬) is presented as being overtly correct in hindsight (years after watching the finale live), Baltar presents almost a Deist/God As The Watchmaker perspective. Yeah, God/Gods/The Sublime Influencer created the universe and set things in motion, but none of this would have happened if individial characters hadn't made choices.
God creates Man, Man creates Cylon, Cylon destroys man, -women inherit the earth-, Rinse, repeat. It all seems pre-ordained but it isn't really. Cavil has to choose to commit revenge, Adama has to *choose* to leave the fight and protect humanity. Starbuck has to *choose* to trust Roslin and Roslin has to *choose* to believe her visions.
Ultimately they cylons have to *choose* to trust the humans and vice versa -- this could have all ended earlier in S4 if D'anna didn't accept the alliance.. at no point did Zeus descend from Olympus (despite what Zarek may tell you 😅) to tell the characters "You will do X. You will do Y."
If you're going to use god as a real element in your series, that's a pretty good way to do it (or just have god be a set of extradimensional aliens to whom you teach baseball)
On another note the merging of the opera house and Galactica/CIC was a frakking incredible experience and Bear knocks it out of the park
