Happiness is TK Friday. I saw Tony’s post before watching your tutorial. You explained the process and made it less scary. Guess what I am doing tonight. Yup. Installing the appropriate linear profiles for my cameras and experimenting. Thanks for all your tutorials, I have learned so much.
Thanks Tony and Dave. With this profile I am able to avoid unnatural looking colors in my landscape phots. Really great!
Fantastic and informative video. A big THANKS to you and Tony.
Linear raw data is much more responsive to adjustments. Combine this with the TK7 panels and it's a winning combination.
Excellent series. Many thanks for all the TK tutorials
Hi Dave: I am a member of a photographer group with members around the world. I was promoting your channel and in particular this video with the group today during our Zoom call. I hope that this sharing helps to bring you new subscribers and 'likes'. Cheers, Keith
I am thrilled with these profiles. They take some massaging. I sometimes use Adobe Camera Neutral which also takes a lot of adjustments. Adobe profiles just are not great. I have been looking for something like this for a while. Thank you for demonstrating it.
Kudos to Tony Kuyper for the profiles and to you for presenting them! AbFab! 😊
Thanks a lot for the tutorial!!! I install the profile of my canera and tried it, it’s amazing the dynamic range that I get!!! WOW!!!
Good info. I will try this. Thanks Dave.
this was interesting and I managed to get it all installed and used it - works well
Thanks Dave, great video
Pozdrawiam z Polski z miasta "Twierdza Przemyśl".
Very effective!
Appreciate this information especially as helps with highlights a lot. Went back to older images and was able to pull highlights out that were lost before.
How do you use the Panel to blend 3 or more images and not use the automated one in LR ? Thanks
Linear profiles are a good option to have available. They have been in Capture One for a long time and maybe Adobe will make them available as a standard option in the future?
Since purchasing my Canon 90D recently ive noticed there is no Camera Matching Profile for the .cr3 files, where with my older Canon 60D .cr2 files there was a Camera Matching Profile option. This looks to have solved this problem as ive read in some forums that Adobe has been slow in supporting the .cr3 files.
One of Adobe Camera specific profiles is Adobe Neutral, which purports to perform a similar function. Since none of my Sony cameras are currently supported by Tony, can you compare the 2 profiles?
Hi Dave, I enjoy your videos! I installed the linear profiles and have been using them in my desktop Lightroom Classic. I have collections synced with Lightroom on my iPad but if i try to edit an image on the ipad that I had applied the liner profile to in the desktop the ipad version indicates missing profile. Is there any way to get the linear profile installed on the ipad lightroom? Thnaks
Suppose Linear Profiles won't fly with TIFF scans of film?? PS Remains me of making digital negatives for alternative printing with customized PS Curves against step wedges.
Hi Dave. That was really interesting, thank you! As a TK panel user/fan I’m looking forward to trying this profile. Some advice please: my import routine now is from card to Dxo pure raw (my shoots are never huge, so I put most raws from my Canon r6 through it), then auto imported to LR with all detail/ lens correction settings off. Would you advise keeping that system and then applying linear profile, or changing to importing to LR and applying linear profile before exporting to pure raw? To my mind then end result should be the same, but I’d appreciate your opinion.
Hi John. I think the way you are doing it should be just fine. I haven't tested it but it makes sense.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly I would have thought that PureRaw is just an alternate profile.... that step wouldn't be needed. Apply Tony's linear profile to the original RAW file in LrC.
Hi John,
I wish DxO would make it possible to use it also for my FujiFilm-X camera's files.
I am reprocessing all my old Nikon files of any importance to me and first apply the DxO lens-correction and Deep Noise Reductions for a new dng-export to further process. Only after that step I apply the linear profiles for my camera's and/or the film-stock made with the Real Raw profiles. That is my preferred new workflow.
Do you know if the Olympus EM1 profile listed on the site is for the EM1-X or the original MK1 OMD ? Thanks
The profiles listed on Tony's site are for the various iterations of the EM-1. if you have a raw file for the EM1-X, you can send it to Tony and he'll create a linear profile for that raw file. In my experience, it takes a few days for the new profile to be posted to the site.
Hi Dave, thank you for a great tutorial. my version of LR doesn't have the profile section or the 4 boxes at the top as in the video. what version are you using? thank you.
Hi Michael, I am using the latest version of Lightroom Classic.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Hi Dave, that's the version that says LrC? i'm using LR CC. thank you for the info.
You have previously recommended using Denoise AI as early as possible in the workflow. This creates the problem of the file being returned to PS or LR as a tiff file which is not recognized by the linear profile. Any suggestions other than the obvious of running Denoise AI (or other plugin) later in the workflow.
I start out in Lightroom Classic and do my basic edits, including applying the Linear Profile while the image is still in it's RAW Format. After basic adjustments in Lightroom I send my image into Photoshop as a Tiff File and do noise Reduction and Sharpening using either Topaz DeNoise Ai , Sharpen Ai or both as needed...
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Dave, thank you for the reply. So I understand, you are saying that you do all necessary edits in LR, including the linear profile and then send that DNG file to PS to apply the necessary Topaz plugins. You then save that file as a TIFF and return it to LR.
That is correct Wally.
Thanks for your video. and i installed the profiles. but i couldn't find the profiles in my lightroom. what's the problem...??
I think I know your problem. You are probably installing the profile as a .dpc, which is incorrect and I address that in the video. You may want to go back and watch it again, you probably missed it. You need to install the file in it’s compressed .ZIP format. If you install it as a .DPC it won’t show up.
For many years, I have created custom camera COLOR profiles for each of my cameras using Xrite's Color Checker Passport and software. This ensures that the raw files have been "color calibrated"....just like many of us calibrate our monitors to show accurate colors. It appears that the linear profiles cannot be used in combination with my Color profiles. Correct?
That may be the case but I am not sure. I will have to run this question by Tony Kuyper. You can also go to the Linear Profile Repository page by clicking the Link, found in the Description of this tutorial and click (Contact Me) and ask Tony this question.
Thanks! I have also sent the question to Tony......
Hi Dave,
I followed all the steps but the PROFILE category won't show up !!. I can see it in LR but no trace of it in Camera Raw 🤷🏻♂️
It won’t show up in the Camera Raw filter in Photoshop because the Linear Profile only works with RAW Files. If you open a RAW File up in Photoshop you will see the Linear Profile in Adobe Camera RAW. If you open up the image from Lightroom as a Smart Object you will be able to double click on the Smart Object layer in Photoshop and open it up in Adobe Camera RAW and you will be able to see the Linear Profile. When you work on a RAW File in Lightroom you will see the Linear Profile but once you send it to Photoshop from Lightroom it is no longer a RAW file unless you choose Open As A Smart Object and then the RAW File will be embedded in the Smart Object Layer.
How to make a LINEAR PROFILE ?Please make a tutorial ?
