The genius of the costumes is staggering. Painting ruffles onto Mary’s skirt is absolutely brilliant. It makes so much sense to blend the two worlds and to go to that extent is amazing.

Initially I wanted to see this movie solely for Lin Manuel-Miranda but I left falling in love with everyone, specifically Ben Whishaw. I thought he was a standout actor for me. Speaking from experience, when you have an emotional role like he does, it's very easy to overdue it but he did it SO well! He was really believable and added 1000 layers of likability to him.

I went in having forgotten much of the original and remembering much of the stage version. I loved the imaginative sequences with water, animation, and Topsy, and Lin-Manuel's proving himself a theatrical jack-of-all-stages. I liked hearing that the music was being written with the film, as it clearly shows that the third verse of "The Cover Is Not The Book" was written for him and his Hamiltonian talents.
Topsy's scene might have had a hidden musical metaphor in it that I just picked up on. "Turning Turtle" starts off strongly traditional Eastern European, reminiscent of Fiddler on the Roof, then switches to the then-new form of jazz. Just like Topsy's views on Second Wednesdays - first all traditional "oh I HATE this disruption", then all new "ooh, I love this new point of view!".
I think my favorite songs are "Cover is not the Book", "Turning Turtle", and "Trip A Little Light Fantastic". Honorable mentions to the rest of the soundtrack.
Overall, exquisite movie, I recommended it to friends who also greatly enjoyed it.

It's so cool to see BTS of this movie!!
I think this movie was absolutely brilliant...don't know why there were so many negative comments saying that we don't need another mary poppins or the film is too dark.

In all fairness, the whole cast and everyone behind the scene did give justice to the legendary Julie Andrew's original version of Mary Poppins which I also love. Yes, Emily Blunt was indeed the best choice to play this role. Bravo!

I particularly loved the sequence with Meryl.
The complex an linguistic dexterity she produced, was quite amazing!
As for the music, it just soared into the sky, like the proverbial kite!"

I watched this movie three times in one week, then revisited it this week. I absolutely adore this movie, no matter how sappy or sugary it may in places. It truly is "saving Mr. Banks" again, only it's Michael this time. "Where the Lost Things Go" has me in tears every time because I know how devastating it is lose your mother, no matter how old you are. Thank you, Disney, for creating a more than brilliant sequel to the original that follows the same formula but never tries to be a carbon copy.

When I originally saw the trailer, I had just assumed that they had CGI'ed Dick Van Dyke's head onto someone else's body as he's dancing on the desk. To find out that, no, he actually did that is just... flooring. He is simply amazing.

If it aint broke dont fix it, although i too felt it lacked originality. They know what they are doing . They know the formula is nostalgia and keeping the things everyone loved form the 1st, one the animation. The penguins, etc,

#Practically perfect in every way! Disney didn't try to remake, replace, or redo the original movie we love. Instead they made a sequel that pays homage to the original through the miriad tiny details woven into the music, the sets, the characters, and the pure soul of the story. As an "original" Mary Poppins fan (born 1959 with MP being my first big screen experience) I was skeptical about MPR, but I was absolutely moved to tears by this movie.
